Proposal: L’Orologiara

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 25 Mar 2021 15:42:16 UTC

Enact a new subrule of “Readiness” entitled “Active Readiness” as follows:

If a Game has been Active for longer than 96 hours, and it has been over 12 hours since the last time one of its Participants made a Play, then the last Participant to make a Play may set their Readiness to Yes, if they are not a Participant in any other Active Game.

If the Game with a Table entitled “Fifth Game: Darknight vs Brendan” is still Active, then make that Game Closed, make Brendan the Game’s Campione, and End that Game.

I want to prevent this situation in future, but changing the rule won’t affect anything with the ongoing game I’m stuck in. Most players are finishing their second round, which is an opportunity I won’t have and can’t regain. I think a single peg out of two potential games is a fair way to address that. All Darknight has to do to render the second clause here inoperative is take their turns before the queue clears.

Looks like this conflicts with Kevan’s proposal, but Kevan’s proposal also fixes this better as this potentially lets you join additional games (as you set your readiness to yes, get put into a new game, and then because you’re still in the other game the clause still holds so you can set your readiness to yes again)

in theory, four people working together could get two of them to spawn dozens of games between each other

Addressed.

Kevan’s proposal still fixes this cleaner, and doesn’t include a “I win this game because despite the fact that I’m currently losing 3-2” clause.

Again: all that has to happen for that clause to evaporate is for Darknight to make two plays before the entire proposal queue clears.

which means you have to make a play. which gives you a free win. even if Darknight makes a play right now, you can still wait 48 hours to make your move and by that point the queue will be clear and you can claim a W.

With this passing, your readiness will become “No” and you’ll be able to change your readiness and get in another game

With Kevan’s proposal passing, your readiness will become “No” and you’ll be able to change your readiness and get in another game (or, if you wish, your readiness will automatically become “yes”)

so the only difference (outside of the fact that this still breaks if you get into two long games) is what to do with the existing game. and playing it out is the fairest approach.

So CfJ if I stall for 48 hours. I’m telling you here that I won’t, because I would rather play more games as soon as possible. What would have happened if Game 5 had wrapped yesterday? I would have been matched in a second game, in which I think it’s fair to say I would have a 50% shot of gaining a peg, and indeed might have been able to get up to 12 or 13 Magistrelli if I’d been matched against a higher-ranked player. But that didn’t happen and won’t ever happen. The victory clause here—if it even affects anything—represents the unobserved outcome of that lost game too.

darknight also lost that outcome

sometimes you get dealt a bad hand. othertimes you wind up playing against a player who your schedules don’t align with. bad luck is part of the game.

against s/k, as the game has finally ended.
