Proposal: Space farms

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 14 Aug 2020 16:41:03 UTC

Add to the list of Things:

Breeding Machine: Each Sunrise, choose a random pair of Animal Things with the same name (if there are any) where this is at, and create 3 more of a randomly selected individual of those Animal Things at this Thing’s Location. Anchored, Artificial, Mineral.

Add to the list of Crafts:

Ingot and a Vegetable Thing / Wrench and Canister of Glarsh / Breeding Machine

Changed this from a different idea. (again)

It feels a bit premature to start adding wacky meta-Locations when we haven’t even checked that the regular Locations and Things work as expected. (They possibly don’t, as May King says that “Things have a Location, and default to the Haniver.”, so all three things will appear at the Haniver immediately.)

This will fizzle if Location Location Location passes, because “Moon” isn’t a listed Topology.

(I’m also wondering whether “randomly selected from the EFF Wordlist” means that you can’t use words from it non-randomly. “Unnamed” does appear.)

What counts as a “kind” for “pair of Animal Things of the same kind of Animal Thing”? The same name, or the same entire name/description/location definition?

made it same name

Same name sounds good, but you’ll have to explicitly say which one gets duplicated, if they’re different.

against I don’t know that I like Things being individual instances of the Thing rather than them being the collective presence of the Thing. I also have that problem with Crafting (I think that crafting a new Thing should make the new Thing available but not deplete the presence of the ingredient Thing(s)) but that’s a job for another amendment.

against Actually, yes, the starting rules are assuming that Things are collective, and if we can’t diverge from that without being clearer about it.

(If there are two Wild Gaudy Pigs and I apply the Gamma Pistol to the first one, there’s no way to document that the Pistol is only Harmless to Gaudy Pig #1 but still Unknown to Gaudy Pig #2 and #3. Nor any way to say that applying it to one Pig affects all the others.)
