Proposal: Symmetry

Timed out—Fails 2-2—Clucky

Adminned at 21 Jul 2012 14:45:27 UTC

In rule 2.2.4 “Machine Repair” replace

If there is ever a Power Link from a Repaired Machine to a Broken Machine and that Link is not part of a Cycle

with

If there is ever a Power Link between a Repaired Machine and a Broken Machine and that Link is not part of a Cycle

When this proposal is enacted, any Broken machine that has a power link to a Repaired machine is immediately Repaired and no merit is gained for them.

Cycles are still directed but you can repair either machine. As a bonus, 2 machines immediately become repaired (maybe more by the time this goes through).

whats the point of having direction then?

I don’t know, mind telling me?

I would have proposed just removing direction entirely, but there’s too many instances of it with different wordings in the ruleset, and I honestly just didn’t feel like it.

Also cycles are still directed, as I pointed out in the commentary.

against This issue has already come up, and it was decided to keep everything oriented

In fairness I didn’t realize that this had already been proposed almost identically, but don’t you think circumstances have changed?

This mechanic would be interesting if there are a lot of active players (which there were) with a lot of operations being proposed (which there were). It’s a lot less interesting now and really just gets in the way.

In particular it makes the broken machine that the power link is from *much* harder to repair since you can’t make a link from the fixed machine anymore without causing a cycle.

It’s possible to establish a link from another repaired machine. Or if there is a cycle, shift change so that the wrong machine comes far enough to lose the link. That does require luck though…

I realize that… doesn’t affect my argument in the slightest.

I wouldn’t say its “much” harder to repair kops. It adds an additional step unjamming a machine, but that’s it…

kops:

And unjamming is considerably harder than linking right now…

yeah I forgot unjamming doesn’t let you try three times… so much for abusing the ‘cycle between broken machines, jam one and fix it then power everything else’... which actually will still work if you throw enough quota at it.

Yeah I noticed that too, but I decided it was probably more expensive than just doing it properly.
