Proposal: The Demons’ revenge

Timed out, passed 11-0.—Shadowclaw

Adminned at 13 Mar 2006 10:23:15 UTC

Shiny Demons really ought to do something.

If there is a sentence in the rule entitled “Distimming” which, give or take formatting, reads as follows:

If the result of the dice roll required to Distim is greater than Quorum, then a Shiny Demon appears.

Then add the following text immediately after it:

The Gostak who caused the Shiny Demon to appear must immediately roll DICE1000.  If the result of the new roll is less than or equal to the number of existing Shiny Demons, then the Shiny Demon Lord immediately Abducts that Gostak to Hell.

Add a new item to the list in the rule entitled “Movement” with the following text:

If a Gostak is Abducted to an existing Floor, e is immediately moved to that Floor.  If any part of that Floor‘s desctiption would prevent an Abducted Gostak from moving to that Floor,  that part of the Floor‘s desctiption will be ignored for that particular Gostak until e leaves that Floor.  Only Entities who are not Gostaks may Abduct.

Add a new floor to the list in the rule entitled “The Building” with the following text:

21st Floor - Hell: All Gostaks in Hell are Unhappy.  If at any time a Gostak who is in Hell is not Unhappy, e immediately becomes Unhappy.

for There’s a typo - ‘desctiption’- in the third part that ought to be fixed. Also, there should probably be an exception clause added to the mood rule saying that being depressed in hell doesn’t move you anywhere. As it is, you’‘d fall off into the nonexistent 22nd floor, or something. Otherwise, I like it.

Demons? Hell? As long as you’re not proposing medikits and body armor.. =)

for Personman:  the “if at any time a gostak in hell is not unhappy” includes if he’s Depressed.  If a gostak in hell gets depressed, he’ll instantly be unhappy again.

Scaramouche: Yeah, but “When a Gostak’s Mood is Depressed, that Gostak is immediately moved…” also happens instantly, so the conflict to be resolved is which happens first.

Even if you move downward from Hell, your’re on the 22nd floor.  So What!

Hix:

I don’t care about moving to the undefined 22nd floor—I care about two contradictory events happening simultaneously.  Specifically:  “immediately becomes unhappy” and “immediately moved to the floor directly below the one e is currently on and eir Mood is changed to Content”

Bucky:

Anyways, it would be illegal to change eir mood to Depressed because then there would be a Gostak in Hell who is not Unhappy.

Personman:

No, that’s wrong. The rule says nothing about it being illegal to change a Gostak’s mood from unhappy - a better wording would, but for now it doesn’t. Hix is right that there is no set order of operations for the to events that happen “immediately”, and anyway, I do have a problem with moving to the undefinged 22nd floor - because you can’t. There simply is no 22nd floor, just like there is no 0th floor and no 1.4th floor, because none was ever explicitly created by the rules. So if I’m in Hell, and someone changes my mood to depressed, I simultaneously do something impossible and something that would stop me from doing the impossible thing. I guess the logical result is that I just stay in Hell, unhappy, since there’s just nowhere else to _go_… but still, it’s ugly, and should be taken care of.

for helping to move toward quorum

It’s been well over 48 hours - we don’t need Quorum, just admining. Which I think I will apply for the ability to provide momentarily.
