Call for Judgment: The player named Josh is a doodoohead

Reached quorum 7 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

In the Turn atomic action in the revised text for the rule Turns held in the rule Round Four:

Remove the top-level Propagate step (rather than the Overground action with the same name).

Move the Overground action Seed to be a top-level step of the atomic action, after the Overground Actions.

Add a new Overground Action as follows: “Germinate: change their Pool Dice.”

I messed up the named of the actions in Schwing Low. Sorry. Titled to ensure that Brendan votes for this.

I think this dynasty is getting away from me. What does “change their Pool Dice” actually mean?

Fair: I think that pool dice might be a conceit too far.

The pool dice thing came in as part of New Tok. The basic idea is still that Islands get a dice pool each turn, as they currently do, but instead of just picking themselves from their own dice, they choose one dice from their own stash and have one mandatory dice that everybody has to use each round. This is the pool dice and it is selected by majority vote. The rule Pool Dice governs how they are selected and how they are used is drawn out in the Turn atomic action.

In short: it’s a weak player interaction that may or may not have any interesting effect whatsoever.

This CfJ restores how they were supposed to work in New Tok, which Schwing Low messed up. It’s needed because at the moment the Round 4 Turn atomic action is all janked up, so either way, I want this to pass. But I’m not averse to the idea that pool dice is just unnecessary over-elaboration. I’m definitely feeling like people are voting DEF on things that they could very easily be voting AGAINST on the grounds that they’re not interested. My instincts are maximalist and I do worry that I’m getting too much of my own way. I’m still surprised that no-one’s tried to just repeal Schwingrasen.

Ah, sorry, then, looks like I misread the Tick-Tock/New Tok proposals as just being about changing the turn timing. I didn’t notice them adding an additional mechanic. I haven’t been giving the game my full attention this week.

I think I’m still in the headspace of “Josh has a vision” when I’m voting DEF (based on your soft veto to keep customisable die faces and your talk of testing out a pre-existing game idea), even though I know you’ve said that you didn’t mean either of those things that strongly.

I don’t know how much more strongly I can state that I am past the point at which I have strongly defining ideas for this dynasty, but to restate: I no longer have strongly defining ideas for this dynasty, I’m feeling my way through, I hope and expect that players will participate in co-design.
