Proposal: Three Tablespoons

If https://blognomic.com/archive/reap_what_you_sow failed, this proposal does nothing.
Give one Thing called Sugar Seed to each player who has never had a Thing called Sugar during this Dynasty.
In the effect of Harvester, change “each Greenhouse” to “each Hot Greenhouse” and “two Crops” to “three Crops”.

everyone should have the opportunity that the past sugarcubers have had!
also, i don’t think we have a good way of tracking which crop is planted in a greenhouse long-term, so let’s simplify that :0

I feel like this is a bit one-sided. The comments on Batteries were mostly “well, the Sugargang missed out because they were doing something else”. But now when going the other way, it’s important to catch everyone up, even though players who didn’t grow sugar got other benefits in exchange (more Cogs, fewer Machine slots used, easier to pivot to other strategies). I’m definitely on board with some kind of sugar grower’s starter kit for those that don’t have an easy way to get seeds, but straight up putting everyone else on an even footing and creating what is essentially 50% inflation feels like it invalidates the Sugargang’s first two turns. I think this should either give fewer seeds/not increase Harvester output so early adopters still get to keep their head start, or include some compensation going the other direction as well, helping the Sugar players catch up on Cogs and Energy.

Granting three Crops is much too powerful – a Harvester + a Greenhouse + a Sugarcuber would give you three boxes of your choice at the cost of three machines and a seed, whereas generating three boxes any other way would require three machines and three Energy, so this makes the Sugar mechanic much better than the alternatives (three Energy is much harder to make than one Seed is).

I was (and still am) seriously considering reducing Harvester output to one Crop plus one Seed, rather than increasing it – this would keep the Harvest mechanic more in check compared to its competitors. You could reduce existing Sugar/Sugarcube holdings to compensate.

the increase to three-yield here is only making up for the fact that u need to replant one as a seed; it’s essentially keeping status quo w/ the two-yield while making it so u need a new seed every cycle :0

i wouldn’t argue w/ changing it to one-yield plus seed, but this is intended to be a minimal-impact proposal, just keeping things running smooth!!
