Proposal: $3,000 Words

Remove each word with a length of three or fewer characters from the contents of the wiki page titled Oxford 3000. Set any Sparks that are now invalid to their default value.

Especially in light of the fact that Fragments can “contain” words followed by other letters, this will remove some of the more boring words from the Common Words list, including words like “and”, “of”, and so on.

Should we also remove any Sparks that were set to a Common Word of three or fewer characters, or just let it slide?

What about Names in Categories? We have a fine example with “z” in the Characters category.

You don’t actually have to address any of the issues I raised. I’m just asking what you think about it and whether or not you’d like to deal with them in this one Proposal.

These are good points. We don’t currently have any Sparks that are that short, but I believe they would be removed automatically since the value would no longer be a valid Common Word. I could make it explicit though. Categories are very loose right now, so I think any Category refinement or restrictions could be left to another proposal (although ‘z’ should probably be removed before the next Judging).

In the event that this passes after the next Drawing, I think we can let slide any Current Elements that are three or fewer characters since I wouldn’t want to retroactively make any Fragments invalid.

Looks like any three-word Current Elements that got in before this enacted would still stand, they only have to be “a word in vernacular English”, not a word from the 3000 list.
