Proposal: A Challenger Approaches

Times out 1-9. Failed by Brendan.

Adminned at 14 Feb 2022 20:50:32 UTC

If the proposal “Back to Basics” failed, the rest of this proposal has no effect.

Add a new rule to the ruleset called “Challenges” as follows:

A Challenge is a type of Event Post. The Creation Condition of a Challenge is that the title of the post is “A vs B” where A is the name of the player Posting the challenge, B is the name of another active Player, and the body of the post is a default grid as described in the rule “Tic-Tac-Toe Rules”.

As a daily action, a player may make a new Challenge Post as long as they are not already named in another Open Challenge. When a Challenge is posted, it starts a new self-contained round of Tic-Tac-Toe. The Ending condition for a Challenge is that the round of Tic-Tac-Toe is over.

* Player B may reject the Challenge by making a comment with a voting icon of AGAINST on the post. If Player B rejects the Challenge, the round is over.
* If Player B has not yet accepted or rejected a Challenge, Player A may make a comment with a voting icon of AGAINST on the post to cancel the Challenge. Then, the round over.
* If a Challenge has been Open for at least 48 hours and Player B has neither accepted nor rejected it, then the round is over.
* If a Challenge has been accepted and neither player has made a move in at least 48 hours, the round is over and the last player to make a move wins the round of Tic-Tac-Toe.

Player B may accept the Challenge by making a comment with a voting icon of FOR on the post. Once the Challenge has been accepted, the Players named in the Challenge must, starting with a randomly selected player, take turns by alternating making a Response to the Challenge until the round is over. The Response Format is defined by each player copying and pasting the grid from the previous turn (or from the post body if it is the first turn), and making exactly one valid move.

If at any point after the challenge has been accepted, either player makes a comment on the post with the AGAINST voting icon, they forfeit the Challenge and the other player wins the round of Tic-Tac-Toe. Then, the round is over.

Perhaps we could break ties with a quick round of Giolitti? /s

I mean, it’s Tic-Tac-Toe, this is like the most basic gameplay I could come up with given that the ruleset is totally blank. I don’t see this turning into a full-on tournament dynasty, but at the very least it’s something for us to do and gives us a way to easily playtest changes to the structure of the game.

if you know what you’re doing, you can always guarantee a tie no matter what, even if you go second

by the virtue of tic tac toe being unbalanced, I give this a no

I mean, I would argue that it’s perfectly balanced. As balanced as you can get.
