Proposal: [Alpha] federal bureau of investigation

Unpopular 1 to 6. Failed by Derrick.

Adminned at 10 Feb 2020 21:38:22 UTC

Create a new rule titled “Investigation”
Scientists can have 0 or more Clues, defaulting to 0 with their absence marked as “-”, which are tracked on the [[Scientists]] wikipage in a comma delineated list. Clues are word pairs in the format “X+Y” where X and Y are both words.

As a thrice daily action a Scientist may investigate by taking the following Atomic Action:
*Spending 50 Budget.
*Choosing a specific word within the Dynastic Rules in their Universe.
*Find the word that is in the opposite Universe but otherwise within the same location as the first word.
*Gain a clue where the first word is from your Universe and the second word is from the opposite Universe.

The location of a word within a ruleset for the purpose of this rule is defined with 3 variables:
*The Rule number
*The Paragraph number
*The number of words within the Paragraph
and can be notated as (rule#, paragraph#, words in paragraph#). For example, the word “Register” in the Core Rules is at location (1.2, 1, 22)

Does this do anything, now that the Alpha tag is just flavour text? Does it just become part of the title or does it direct this proposal to a ruleset that doesn’t exist?

“Divergence” is still just flavour text (though it didn’t occur to me to use that term, and I used instead the formulation in “Special Case”). The tag is therefore just a harmless part of the title – a part we won’t even need to use if we refer to the proposal in the future, thanks to the rule “Names” (subpar. 5).

The question here is: does card mean this rule to take effect in both Universes?

i made this proposal with the CfJ in mind, since it was going to keep the Alpha universe and i thought i had to submit a proposal with a tag.

Is “their Universe” a meaningful thing to say at this point? Aren’t we always in both for now, even if Quantum Leap enacts?

And “thrice daily action” is a nice idea, but not clearly defined. Does the “more than once every ten hours” of daily actions still apply? If it does, that gets quite strange, with only 24 hours in a day.
