Proposal: Big Booms

Self-killed. Josh

In the rule “Turns” replace

Contain: Roll DICE100. If the result is lower than 3 times their pressure, explode

with

Contain: Roll DICEX where X is equal to 80 plus five times the current round minus the Island’s Land, or 1 if that result is negative. If the result is lower than 3 times their pressure, explode

Bigger you are, the more likely you are to go boom. This hopefully helps prevent runaway mechanics.

Also think we should consider making it so pressure has min value of 1, and thus you can’t just always keep pressure at 0 and avoid ever exploding. But want to keep that as a separate discussion.

I can get behind the intent, but I’m really not a big fan of this specific implementation;  it’s already an annoying calculation to make for oneself, but then also muddies each Island’s understanding of every other Island’s chances of explosion.  I won’t vote against yet, just to allow some discussion and edits.

I also think it’s metaphorically hazy: a wide, flat island is surely less likely to be explosive?

We (potentially) end on round 15. That means we’ll be rolling DICE5 at the very end, and that doesn’t seem like a functional end game. The time element is much stronger than the land element.

@bais I agree this is a little clunky. But think we need some form of catchup mechanisms

@josh all of the tectonic stuff is metaphorically hazy so I figured I might as well just embrace it =D

@derrick the formula is 80 plus five times the current round minus the Island’s Land, so on round 15 it would be 80+75-Land so if you have 50 land by that point you’d still be rolling a DICE105. Idea being that the longer the game goes, the more land its safe to have

“eighty plus five times the current round” is also, hmm, I dunno - written out like that, without punctuation, it feels like you could make a counter-BODMAS argument that it should be (80+5)*x rather than 80+(5*x)

against about to time out and have no votes, so if people really want this we should repropose
