Add a new dynastic rule, titled “Predators”:
Each Snail has a publicly tracked Status, defaulting to “Healthy”.
If a Snail is not Healthy, then they may not Move or take any dynastic action which would change their Position.
If a Slug is not Healthy, then it has no effect.
If a Healthy Snail ever has a Position within 2cm of a Zombified Snail, they become Zombified. The following Predators exist:
{| class="wikitable"
|+ Types
! Name || Range || Effect
|-
| Haters || 1-4 || The Snails feel demoralized. Otherwise has no effect
|-
| Squirrel || 2-6 || Set the Status of a random Healthy Snail with the lowest Position to "Eaten"
|-
| Car || 3-5 || Set the Status of all Healthy Snails with Position between 35cm and 65cm inclusive to "Flattened"
|-
| Snail-zombifying Fungus || 4-7 || Set the Status of a random Healthy Snail with the highest Position before the Finish Line to "Zombified"
|-
| Hawk Flock || 6+ || Randomly select half the Healthy Snails before the Finish Line, rounded up, and set their Status to "Missing"
|}The Danger Level is a publicly tracked number that defaults to 0. Spotting Danger is the following atomic action:
* Increase the Danger Level by one
* Apply the effect of a random Predator whose Range contains the Danger Level
* Make a comment in the Ongoing Race saying “Look out!!!” and mentioning the Predator that was chosenThe Slug of Death is ignored for the purposes of determining Predator targets.
Append the following steps to the atomic action in “Races”:
* Set the Status of all Snails to Healthy
* Set the Danger Level to 0
Some hazards one might find at a snail race. I’ve left the conditions under which Danger can be Spotted as an exercise for future Proposals. The idea here is to make it so things get increasingly deadly the longer a Race goes on for (maybe all the building commotion of the race attracts various snail-killers), to hurry things along a little bit and reduce the Mexican standoff at the start line.
