Proposal: Compressed reproposal

Self-killed. Josh

Adminned at 10 Nov 2010 11:06:44 UTC

If Proposal: I am Lord Marvolo failed, enact it.

Add the following to the end of the rule entitled Dark Ascendancy:

, and in the rule entitled “Nomich”.

Reword the second paragraph of the sub-rule entitled Lessons in Evil as follows:

If at least 48 hours have passed since an Evil Lesson was posted, and the number of Students who have Studied in it is strictly greater than the number of Students who Disrupt it, then any Student may comment to that post declaring that a period of Dark Ascendancy has begun; any Lesson that has such a comment posted to it is closed and is no longer considered to be an Evil Lesson. They may then change the last sentence of the rule entitled “Ascendancy” to read:

The School is currently in a time of Dark Ascendancy.

against This did not fix the problem with changing the word “Headmaster” everywhere in the rules. Instead of listing the exceptions (“Don’t change “Headmaster” in this rule, in these subrules, in the rule “Nomich”, ...”) , we should list exactly where it is changed… Or simply not change it at all, as it’s likely to fall apart.

The correction to the Evil Lesson is good though. I didn’t see the problem at first, and it was necessary. =)

Greytyphoon - that’s not a problem for me, it’s a feature :)

Lord Marvolo is meant to be a shadow Emperor, and the Dark Ascendancy is supposed to be a total coup. I’ve gone through the ruleset now and can’t find a specific instance of where it would cause a problem, so for the time being I’m happy for it to stay as it is rather than worry about future-proofing.

for Nice fix. =)

I’m just wary of the balance of things. If Zombies can have a Veto on their side when we’re in Dark Ascendancy, can we Humans and Ghosts have someone on our side? To put it another way, is Josh, as Headmaster, on our side? I don’t know if the zombies will use their veto specifically to counter the living, but if so Josh should be able to do the same against them.

To sum it up, one of two things, then:
- Either the Lord Marvolo doesn’t use his Headmaster powers to favor the Zombies, so he’s just an interesting role to have.
- Either he does, and I think the Alives and the Ghosts should have someone on their side, be it either another official Teacher (e.g. Professor Abalone), or a non-neutral Headmaster. That way we could fight back. =)

In my head, Brendan as Headmaster is explicitly on the side of the Humans. Ghosts, being a neutral third party who can sway the outcome of Evil Lessons, are assets to be courted by both sides and thus need lesser representation.

How it works in practice is open to further development, of course.

against Erg, still seems a bad idea to add a mechanic that hands out veto power before proposing a mechanic to remove that power. There is no way a proposal for a Light-restoring mechanic would pass, with Lord Marvolo in power.

We’re also a bit short on ways to become Dead at the moment, aren’t we? If this enacted, Thane Q could just declare a lesson, study in it, refrain from biting anyone in the Library, and become Headmaster 48 hours later.

Kevan - not sure that Thane Q could do that, as he would still need to out number the Disruptors. He could declare the lesson and become Headmaster if no-one noticed and Disrupted him, but then he could do the same thing by proposal…

The lack of ways to become a Zombie is really the reason why I’m doing this now - until there are more Zombies it’s really easy to Disrupt an Evil Lesson, making Dark Ascendancy quite unlikely to come about.

Oh, my mistake, I was reading it as banning Alive students from the lesson entirely.

@Josh Cool! (And I meant Brendan as Headmaster, of course. Sorry! =P)

against because I’m not sure “If Proposal: I am Lord Marvolo failed, enact it.” will do what you think it’ll do.

Sure, I could do that, or I could just have fun instead. :)
