Proposal: Convenience

Add the following after the first sentence in “Moving”:

The number of Moves each Snail has made in the Ongoing Race is publicly tracked as a number.

Append a new step to the atomic action in “Races”:

* Reset the Moves of every Snail to 0

Append the following paragraph to “Moving”:

A Snail may, if they wish, combine multiple Moves into one comment, as long as that comment could be unambiguously split into several comments with one Move each. The order of the combined Moves is considered the same as the order they are stated in the comment.

Change the “Slipstream” move to read as follows:

If the most recent Move in the Ongoing Race was from a Snail other than you, change your Position by the same amount that Snail’s Position changed in their most recent Move.

It would be nice to see at a glance the number of Moves so far made by our fellow Snails, and not have to spam the blog with 10 Moves as separate comments. This breaks Slipstream, so I’ve reworded it.

If multiple Moves are combined into one comment, is it reasonable to assume that they are processed in order that they are stated in the comment, or should that be made explicit?

Also, Slipstream becomes a little too powerful because you could spam it 10 times in the same comment, for example. How about this instead:

If the most recent Move was from a Snail other than you, change your Position by the same amount that Snail’s Position changed.

The slipstream change is good

but

I’m not sure “Reset the Moves of every Snail to 0” does anything though—moves are undefined if there is no Ongoing Race. Plus there is a good chance that https://blognomic.com/archive/fair_tax will ensure moves get publicly tracked anyways

as far as doing moves all at once I’m a bit torn. It removes the ability to snipe something, but maybe that’s a good thing

Speaking as a fellow West Coast inhabitant, I think it is a good thing that we limit sniping as a strategic choice. Everyone else is going to make their Moves by the time we wake up, so they’ll get all the good sniping opportunities if there are any. Might as well close off those opportunities when possible and make it a game of choosing the right Move combinations instead.
