Proposal: Dangerous Lessons

At 2-12, cannot be enacted without a changed vote. —Brendan

Add the following sub-rule, entitled “Accidents”, to rule 2.5 “Lessons”.

When a Lesson ends the Headmaster must determine if there was an Accident during the Lesson and if so what the effects are. If at least 8 students Studied in the Lesson there is a 50% chance of an Accident occurring. If less than 8 but more than 4 Students Studied there is a 30% chance of an Accident occurring. If less than 4 Students Studied there is no chance of an accident occurring.

When an Accident occurs the Headmaster must role a DICE3 to determine how many Students were effected and then randomly select the determined amount of Students from a list of all Students who Studied in the Lesson in where the Accident occurs. For each student the Headmaster shall role a DICE3. If the result of this final roll is a 1 then the Student in question has only minor injuries and they are not significantly effected by the accident. If the result of the final roll is a 2 then the Student’s condition is set to Zombie. If the result of the final roll is a 3 then that Student’s condition is set to Ghost.

Whenever an Accident occurs the Headmaster shall create a Post in which the effects of the accident are detailed, and then update the GDNT to reflect any changes to the condition of effected Students.

Introducing a mechanic to make more zombies and ghosts, add some risk to studying.

against Not sure we need a random disincentive to Studying.

I think that the risk of a Disruptive student is already an effectively random disincentive to studying.

imperial If Brendan doesn’t mind the extra work, I think this could be exciting.

Right now, it’s not a risk but a certainty. Plus, as long as Thane Q keeps this up - posting at the last moment - we can’t get our grades up until Advanced Lessons are instated. True, he’ll have to choose a class to disrupt if “Remain Seated” passes - unless he just disrupts them as soon as he’s free. True, if he gets grudges against every teacher he won’t be able to do a thing. Still, I think disrupting a lesson overpowers studying it right now. If you can do it at the last minute - and not anyone can wait for you to do it so to post themselves - you can effectively keep everyone’s grades down, defeating the purpose of studying in the first place.

TL;DR: I think studying is hard enough as it is, so against =P

against  And if a student that is already a ghost studies and an accident happens, that accident might give him his body back!

Try adding a level of lessons: “Basic”, “Intermediate”, “Advanced”, and “Dangerous”. Dangerous lessons can’t be disrupted, can’t be Brown Nosed, and advance your grade by two, but you risk your life. =P

I see what you guys are saying about there being little incentive to study. Perhaps if this does not pass I will have another go at it, with accidents being associated with those who disrupt rather than those who study. I just want more ways to become a zombie :)

against Disruption does need to be nerfed, but as much as I like accidents and student death, I don’t particularly want them connected to studiousness.

“as much as I like accidents and student death”, says the Headmaster. Kinda makes me wonder if the Lord Marvolo proposal passed after all… =P
