Proposal: Defining Arbitrage Rewards Knowledge, Ends the Nuisance of Empty Design

Adminned at 16 Jul 2025 06:21:45 UTC

Rename the rule Savings to Wagers. Change its text to read as follows:

Each Wordsmith has a publicly tracked number of Coins, defaulting to 0.

Each Wordsmith has a Wager, privately tracked by the Puzzler, which can be either a number between 0 to 5 inclusive or a null value, and which defaults to a null value.

If a Wordsmith has not posted a Backronym since the most recent Acrogenerate, as a Virtual Action they may set their Wager to a valid value.

In the rule Scoring, change the following two bullet points:

Subtract the Savings of the author of that Backronym from that author’s Points, to a minimum of 0 Points, then set that author’s Savings to 0.
Take the difference of that author’s Points before the previous step and after the previous step and add that difference to that author’s Coins.

to read:

If the author of the Backronym’s Wager has the exact same value as the Points they gained from that Backronym then they also gain Coins equal to the same amount. Otherwise they lose one Coin, to a minimum of zero coins.

for nice repurposing of that part of the rules, I like it.

A good idea. But since the mechanic is “has not posted a Backronym since the most recent Acrogenerate”, I’ll wait for the final two Backronyms to be posted before casting a vote on this, so that those players aren’t getting a free first Wager for being slow.

All of the Wordsmiths and the Puzzler have authored posted Backronyms at this point.

against  I have several problems with this, but one is that it’s accidentally(?) mandatory for players with Coins; coins are guaranteed to be deducted if you don’t set your Wager.

Another is that, if you hit a Buzzword, you pretty much automatically lose the wager because it’s impossible to ahve a Wager of 6+.

Also, even though players who have posted Backronyms cannot change their Wagers, any previous Wager persists.

Agree with Bucky on both points. You need a “If the author of the Backronym’s Wager is not null” clause, and a Wager reset step in Acrogenerate.
