I prefer this change for public Factions, but think secret factions should still be free text (after all, it’s very hard to belong to a family other than the one you overtly belong to).

@Kevan: Even so, the list of available food puns gets much shorter. Hm. 

[Josh] A lot of these are in practice just Italian nouns - I was intending them to be whispered as nicknames as much as literal family surnames of the player characters. (But having the Capulets as your Secret Faction while you are a Montague would still make plenty of sense, I think: you’re part of one group but privately helping another.)

after further thought.  It helps with someone sneaking in a uppercase I into a lowercase l.

why? this just seems to take away a lot of the creative fun

and the Italian word for Bear is not in the list so

“Bears” is in there, it’s “Orsi” (which I guess rules out your Secret Faction, unless that’s a bluff). Throw the page into Google Translate and there are a lot of other animals and nouns.

I think there’s more creative fun to be had within arbitrary constraints. If we want to add a secret assassin faction mechanic to the game later on, deciding to name that group the Lucchetti (“padlocks”) seems at least as enjoyable as calling them “The Assassins Guild” or inventing some other name. A few days of game actions and we’ll all be whispering the name in fear, whatever it is.
