Proposal: I Can’t Believe They Retired The Claggymouth

In “Menus”, replace “As a virtual Prep action, a Truck may change its Menu to any list of Dishes.” with:-

(Today Only:) As a virtual Prep action, a Truck may change its Menu to any list of Dishes.

(From Tomorrow:) As a virtual Prep action, a Truck may change its Menu to any list of Dishes - if they have a Past Menu, this new Menu must include at least one Dish that was on their Past Menu (with the same Name and Ingredients, although at any Price). (A Truck’s Past Menu is the Menu they had - if any - at the start of the most recent Night action where they weren’t Closed.)

Requiring one dish to be carried forward each round. You can’t change your menu too much, if you want to maintain a strong brand identity.

The Claggymouth will not be returning. If the people want Spiderman Snacks’s cut-rate slop then my falafels will not be waiting for them when their hungry for real quality returns.

So if a Truck only carries one Dish they are required to continue carrying it? Seems to overly penalize the one-Dish play.

Decisions made in the first round aren’t sacrosanct, especially when there are no long-term commitments to them. Nothingburger strongly penalises the “no ingredients” play. Does the rule change make the game more interesting on balance?

I don’t find the “no ingredients” play as interesting because it’s a singular choice (no ingredients) that, if copied by your competitors, is simply a race to the bottom. I don’t mind seeing it go away.

The one-Dish play is the trade-off of betting on a single Dish for success or failure to gain Dollars for the benefit of knowing which Dish will be selected when a Sale is performed for your Truck. You still have to come up with your choice of Ingredients for that one Dish based on cost to you and which Ingredients you think other Trucks might choose. I think having this option and the flexibility to change it is still an interesting choice to make.

I think I’d rather see this worked into the Active Customer’s Choice somehow. Thematically, this Proposal is suggesting that a Truck that carries the same Dish from day-to-day will have more success than a Truck that doesn’t, so what about a Popularity rating per Dish that starts off low but rises every time that Dish is selected in the They buy their meal step? This Popularity rating could then offset the “lower price” decision by some limited amount, e.g. “Dish’s price minus Popularity vs a lower price on another Truck’s Menu minus its Popularity” or similar.

In this way, carrying the same Dish is encouraged rather than mandated.

The main thing I was aiming for here was to make guessing rival menu items less of a shot in the dark: you’ll know each Truck has one repeat, and might be able to make an educated guess on what it might be. If it were made into an encouragement instead, I think it’d need to be a strong enough one that it would be a significant sacrifice to forego it.

imperial I’ll abstain and leave the question to the players, anyway.
