Proposal: Just sign the contract, Jerry

Self-killed. Failed by Brendan.

Adminned at 21 Jul 2021 22:34:17 UTC

Replace the sentence “A Vampire Lord cannot perform this action on more than one occasion between each Enter the Crypt action, except that performing multiple instances of this action in a single wiki update counts as a single performance of the action for the purpose of this sentence.” in the rule “Crypt Denizens” with:

A Vampire Lord cannot perform this action on more than one occasion between each Enter the Crypt action.

This is supposed to just be a one-fell-swoop trick for players with lots of Puissance, right? If we’re going to limit the action, let’s limit the action.

Heh, and you’re the person who currently has the most valuable Denizen.

The way the rule ended up as it was: the original version of it was meant to be usable multiple times, but I was worried that people would back-and-forth Coerce the same Denizen, taking 12 hours each time, and making the game grind to a halt. So the wording as it was was meant to fix the timing issues, whilst still making multiple Coercions possible.

Note that I’m not sure that your wording actually changes what the rule does – it just makes it more ambiguous (the “single wiki update” was meant as a clarification of what a “single occasion” is, but is written as an exception to avoid arguments). If you want the action to only be usable once per Expedition, say so: “A Vampire Lord cannot perform this action more than once between each Enter the Crypt action”.

against because Clucky has locked this from edits and I think it needs edits, and also because I’m uncertain about the idea in the first place.

more proof that 8 hour edit window has been bad for the game

this is about coercing, right? against bc u need to perform the action twice to actually take a denizen for urself? if u have to wait for a full crypt action to occur between setting a denizen to neutral and making that denizen ur minion, it makes it just about impossible to steal denizens w/o somebody else swooping in, reaping the benefits of ur action, and setting u back to square one

I disagree with “just about impossible” there, lemon—you just need to coordinate with someone else to make it happen. To me it seems that the act of “set X to neutral” and “set neutral to me” are separated for a reason, or why do we not just have this as “pay 4 to change a denizen’s sycophancy to yourself?”

yeah it encourages teamwork which I think is good.

I wouldn’t mind a “pay this flat fee to change it to yourself” but I think it should be more than four.

four is wrong, it would be four plus double the cunning of the denizen? and i figure the option should also be available to just set a denizen to neutral if u can’t steal it for urself

Based on this conversation, I’m now convinced that this is a bad change (in addition to the wording issues) – it seems intended to allow players who are already in big pools to take over the game, at the expense of everyone who isn’t.

you just need one friend to work with you to take over a denizen. if you can’t find that… seems like your own fault. better experience than simply letting a rich person buy everything themselves.

Since Josh won’t vote on this, and no one else is open to persuasion, might as well unblock the queue.  against s/k
