Proposal: Last One In is a Rotten Egg

Timed out, 2-2 with decreased quorum due to Jury voting DEF. Failed by JonathanDark.

In the rule “Moving”, add the following item to the bulleted list:

* Sprint: If a quorum of Snails have never performed this Move in this Race, increase your position by DICE10+10.

This isn’t first-mover advantage, but first-quorum advantage to use a better Move than Crawl. You could try to wait it out and use Leapfrog, but the longer you wait the more you risk a quorum of Snails getting across the Finish Line sooner than you, leaving you with only Crawl and Slipstream to get there.

I realize that with Slingshot Sam at 98cm, everyone’s going to just wait until the Slug of Death gets close and try Leapfrog and hope to get lucky. I think after this Race is over, we should fix Leapfrog to have a maximum distance as Habanero recommended, and then Sprint will become more meaningful. Until then, it’s only fair to allow everyone else the same chance as Habanero, so really this new Move is meant for the Race after this one.

Quorum first advantage still seems like a problem to me

I mean, what’s the alternative? Everyone waits for everyone else?

Don’t make Kevan pull out the turn rules again. I’m trying to help us get this free form turn experiment to succeed.

Oh, don’t mind me. It’s a good rule of thumb that once a proposal has failed in a dynasty, you should move on and try something else rather than bringing the same thing up again, and I try to follow that.

But a wait-to-react turn structure with swingy dice rolls when it’s finally your turn to move isn’t proving very interesting to me, so I think I’ll just idle myself. Quorum drops to 4.

for I like the idea here. It seems unlikely half of us will decide to Sprint in the first day of a Race and lock out someone who didn’t have the time to react. That said, it should probably be changed so that non-Slug Snails don’t count and the Snails in the Bucket don’t contribute to the calculated quorum.

Snails in the bucket already don’t count:

A Snail in the Bucket or on the Bench does not count as a Snail for the purposes of dynastic rules other than this one

You’re right about changing it to non-Slugs, though.

I’ll withdraw this one if more people like It’s In The Cards, and then I’ll post a follow-up that fixes the issues Habanero pointed out with that one.
