Proposal: Minor Corrections

Popular, 4-0 with 1 DEF and Publisher voting FOR. Enacted by JonathanDark.

Adminned at 04 Jun 2024 20:58:50 UTC

In the rule “The Story” add the following text:

At any time, the Publisher may correct any spelling errors, grammatical errors, typos, uppercasing/lowercasing errors, and add, change, or remove any punctuation as the Publisher deems necessary in the contents of The Story.

Just allowing for cleanup of The Story when Fragments are added to it that may have some issues.

imperial Wasn’t this Proofreading’s job?

Proofreading involves Proposals and voting. This gives the Publisher the right to make minor changes at will.

Is there any difference in scope of what each can correct? I thought the idea behind Proofreading was to encourage more player activity on the blog.

Sorry, I suppose the intention behind each wasn’t clear.

Proofreading gives Storytellers a chance to alter the story in a narrative sense in a small way, hence the 2-10 contiguous words.

This Proposal is to allow the Publisher to make corrections to The Story but not alter it narratively in any significant sense. One could argue that the right change in punctuation would do so, but in general that’s the difference in intent between the two.

Proofreading can correct “spelling errors, grammatical errors, typos, uppercasing/lowercasing errors, and add, change, or remove any punctuation”, though, so long as it’s not trying to correct multiple things that are more than 10 words apart?

True. So the scope in this Proposal is to give the Publisher free reign to make corrections over any portions of The Story, where such corrections don’t have to be contiguous, are not limited to 2-10 words, and don’t have to go through Proposal enactment first.

I can see the distinction, it just seems a big carve-out from Proofreading, if players don’t have to Proofread grammar or typos any more.

I suppose that’s the idea. Let the Storytellers write with their creative process, and let the Publisher worry about grammar and typos.

That said, if a Storyteller writes something so grammatically off or so typo-ridden that it is unintelligible, it will probably get low Score from fellow Storytellers, so it is at least somewhat to a Storyteller’s benefit to try to write their Fragments with as few typos and grammatical errors as possible.
