Proposal: More than Metal

Add to the list of characteristics a Discovery may have:

A Product: which defaults to unknown.

Change:

If this Discovery is a Mineral, the Applying Pathfinder may gain 1 Ingot.

To

If this discovery has a product of unknown, set this discoveries product to a random value from the product list corresponding to this discoveries classification, and the Applying pathfinder may gain 1 of the discoveries product. Otherwise, the Applying pathfinder may gain 1 of the discoveries product

Create a rule named Products:

Mineral Products are:
*Ingot
*Flammable Liquid
*Radioactive Brick
*Conductive Wire
Animal Products are:
*Raw Edible Mass
*Waterproof sheet
*toxic spines
*long fibers
Vegetable Products are:
*Raw Edible Mass
*Oily Secretion
*Structural Beam
*Hallucigenic Substance

Set the product of all discoveries in the ruleset to unknown.

Pathfinders may carry up to two pieces of Equipment, and default to carrying none. The Equipment they carry is tracked in the Mission Log wiki page.

After that paragraph, add :

Pieces of equipment and products are items.

Change:

fewer than three pieces of Equipment

To:

fewer than three items

 

This lets us carry things that are not equipment, and lets discoveries produce different useful things, that aren’t immediately useful. I’ve also updated the carrying capacity to three.

Feel free to change the list of products. This is just a starting suggestion.

Quick spots:

Applying something to a Discovery with a known Product will have no effect?

We can’t apply Products to Discoveries? (Maybe that’s for the best, though.)

“The Equipment they carry is tracked in the Mission Log wiki page” also needs to become “The items”.

“A Player carrying fewer than three pieces of Equipment may” will be removed from the ruleset by your other proposal and be unavailable for replacement.

Thanks for the spots.

Not applying products to discoveries is intentional. It stops exponential combination growth.

I’ve fixed the Item carrying, and made gaining known products unambiguous, and I think I cleared up the “Back at the Ship” problem.

“Discoveries clarification” should be possessive (“Discovery’s clarification”) but that’s a typo so can be fixed anytime
