Proposal: No Freebies

In the rule Golden Rule after the third bullet point, add a new bullet point:

* if the proposal was withdrawn, less than 6 hours have passed since it was posted, and the Imperator has not commented on it, that Equity stays unchanged; otherwise

I suspect I’m not the only person to see this since it feels like a blatant hole in the Golden Rule. If the queue is empty, you can create a proposal, immediately withdraw it, then repeat twice more for a free 6 equity. Sure your next proposals could be trashed as a penalty, but if you do it in the final minutes of the dynasty, it’s a free six equity. This way, even if Josh doesn’t get around to seeing it, you at least need to slow it down significantly.

I am claiming “a” as my ladder word, found in “Sinfighting”, “Know the Odds”, “Three Discs Per Week”, “Driving Engagement”, “Set Your Watch”, “Trouble at Mill”, “No Self-Laddering”, “Frequest Sinners” and this proposal. The equity value is 8. Sure it’s not strictly a part of the wordlist, but a word is allowed to be a sin if it is “from the EFF Wordlist”, i.e. from the page itself. I can happily say that it sits in the explanation above the words themselves.

When I saw that, before I read the flavour text, I was thinking “but that only works if the queue is empty”, which seemed unlikely this dynasty. I guess there’s probably no reason to fix it, just in case?

(You missed a possibility, though – do it either side of midnight and you get 12 Equity, not just 6.)

As for the claim, I’m leaning towards thinking that it fails. The rule says “which is on the EFF Word List” which I think technically refers to the list as originally published by the EFF, rather than to the BlogNomic copy of it (the wiki page is referred to later in the ruleset, but in a different rule, and has a different name). I also think it technically refers to the list itself, not the page surrounding it.

Correction: “no reason not to fix it, just in case”?

I’d be happy for it to go to cfj, because I’d imagine the page is a more likely place to pull from than the list by EFF itself, in context.

The actual rule text says “ being a list of words from the EFF Wordlist” not just “being from the EFF Wordlist”. A list of words is a well understood format of presenting words, and it’s a stretch to say that, for example, an ordinary English sentence is a list of words.

If “list” doesn’t have a specific meaning, there’s a number of other problems this exposes.

The “list” in that sentence refers to the list of Sins, which is sitting in the SNDT.
