Create a rule named “Position and Prominence”:
Each scientist has a position tracked on the scientists page, which is one of academic, corporate, criminal, law enforcement, or political, defaulting to academic. Each Scientist has a prominence tracked on the scientists page, which is a number greater than or equal to 0, defaulting to 0.
A scientist may change their position to any legal position by decreasing their prominence by two, or by decreasing it to 0.
As a daily action, a scientist with a position of academic may aspire by spending 500*2^x budget, where x is their prominence, and rolling DICE2. If the result is two, their prominence increases by one.
As a daily action a scientist with a position of corporate may aspire by spending 1000*2^x budget, where x is their prominence, and rolling DICE6. If the result is three or higher, their prominence increases by one.
As a daily action, a scientist with a position of political may aspire by spending 50,000 budget to roll DICE6. If the result is four or greater, their prominence increases by one. If the result is one, their prominence decreases by one.
As a daily action, a scientist with a position of criminal and a budget of at least 50% of the crisis amount may aspire by rolling DICE4. If the result is three or higher, their prominence increases by one. If the result is one, that scientist’s budget is set to 0, and the prominence of each scientist with the law enforcement position and a prominence lower than or equal to the aspiring scientist’s prominence increases by one.
Inspired by fringe, where different characters play different roles in different universes. The randomness should assist in differentiating the two universes.
Kevan: he/him
The dice aren’t too interesting (and I can’t work out if there’s some subtle significance between rolling 2 on a DICE2, 4+ on a DICE6 and 3+ on a DICE4, here), but I like the different roles idea a lot.
