Proposal: Procedure is Everything

After the rule “The Universes” add a rule, “Portal Procedure”:

Text inside of blockquotes in this rule has no gameplay effect. It remains text, which can be copied, pasted or otherwise referenced by this or other rules.

If a Portal exists or has been created between the two Universes, an Individual should, as an Atomic Action:

  1. Replace the first paragraph of “Divergence” with:
    A Portal has been created between the Universes, and Divergence has occurred. This means that the two Universes are diverging at an accelerated pace, and conditions in them are no longer functionally identical. The following is true:
  2. Replace the text of the sub-rule “Portals” with:
    The two Universes have diverged, as a Portal has been created between them. Contact between the two Universes has been established.
  3. Repeal this rule.

A warning to the enacting admin (and to all voters, I suppose, if you want to consider the power of an enacting admin): the double intended text should implicitly be surrounded by <blockquote> tags when added to the ruleset, for this rule to function as intended. If it’s not, Divergence will occur instantly upon enactment.

[derrick] “When X happens a Portal is created automatically even if we don’t notice and this isn’t tracked anywhere and players may optionally update the ruleset to make it clear that this Portal exists” is still quite a wodge of duct tape.
