Repeal the rule “Similarity”. Create a Portal. Perform the atomic action described by “Portal Procedure”.
Focusing our minds on whether we’re ready to do this.
But the real problem is a lack of a central dynastic gameplay loop.
Looking ahead to what will happen, is “while there is a Portal open, the default to this value should be determined through a DICE2 roll, with a value of 1 corresponding to a Polarity of -50 and a value of 2 corresponding to a Polarity of 50” going to give everyone the same Polarity, or split the group randomly?
It feels like it could be read either way, but leaning towards splitting randomly, since “the default” isn’t tracked anywhere and if someone joins the game next week we’ll need to determine the default for them at that point.
Yeh I’m not sure it’s quite ready to go, but we’ll see what happens!
@Kevan - that clause should change as a result of the passage of A couple of minor fixes - I think it doesn’t solve the underlying problem though.
Now that my mind is focused I can see a couple of problems that make me wary though. None of the steps for handling divergence seem to involve setting up the actual parallel rulesets, for example. Seems like that’s an important step… So but I hope thata single round of fix proposals will get us up to shape.
[Josh] Hum, true: the Alpha and Prime rulesets are “initially identical” but it looks like no actual content is specified for them. Unless I’m missing something?
Oh, but actually @Kevan - that changes the default value, not any of our individual values, surely?
Not quite yet.
[kevan] I think it was supposed to be implied that the two initially identical rulesets contained full copies of the ruleset.
Implied, yes, but implications are useless when it comes to enacting the thing.
[Josh] The default value is calculated on the fly, isn’t it? It’s never written down. Do we roll one DICE2 and apply the same Polarity to everyone, or roll a fresh DICE2 every time we look to see what the “default” value is?
[derrick] Yes, the original intention is definitely obvious, but I think the rule has drifted to the point where it’s not even implicit any more.
@Kevan - oh I see. The intent was to split randomly afresh for every new player, which I think the wording leans toward, but you’re right, the other reading is at least defensible.
Self-kill, anyway, we’ll catch back up with President Jenkins some other time.
Tantusar: he/they
Ah, hell with it. We’re just sort of spiralling at the moment.
