Proposal: Recommended Reading

Add a new rule to the ruleset, entitled Coursework:

As a weekly action, the Professor may make a post with a title that includes the words “Reading Assignment:” and with body text that details the name and number of a prior Dynasty

Provided that they have not already made a post to that specific assignment, any Student may make a post to the most recent Reading Assignment at any time. Posts to Reading Assignments must take the format of an essay, that is not less than 250 words and not more than 300 words in length, on the subject of the assigned Dynasty, addressing whether or not it was successful, which mechanics and proposals were particularly effective and how it could have been improved. Any reply to the Assignment that does not adhere to these guidelines is not considered to be a valid reply and may be ignored.

Whenever the Professor posts a new Reading Assignment, every Student who made a valid reply to the previous Reading Assignment Scores.

against I do like the idea, but I agree with above objections. Plus, some Dynasties were much better documented than others, making the sparse ones an exercise in memory alone.

Perhaps we could instead write essays analyzing other games/rule systems?

To be honest I’m not sure that 250 words is long enough that having been a former player is any advantage at all. It’s highly unlikely that anybody would be able to use the essays to develop a coherent argument, and in any case the score is based on participation, not quality.

(And again, if Students can only score through this rule once then sooner or later a dynasty that they played in will probably crop up.)

The objective of the rule is more to encourage people to look back at previous dynasties, not test knowledge of them…

The Dynasty was not successful, the fourth Enacted proposal and the first Dynastic Rule were very effective, the header was awful and could have been easily improved.
