Proposal: Simpler transactions

Timed Out. Fails 1-3—Clucky

Adminned at 24 May 2021 05:33:21 UTC

If Proposal: Doughboys was not enacted then this proposal does nothing.

If Proposal: Sellers Market was enacted, revert all of its changes. If it was not enacted, enact Proposal: Doughboys as if it had been.

In the rule Purchase Submissions, to the end of the sentence that reads ‘A Purchase Submission consists of an ordered list of Purchases’ add:

and a list of works of art that the submitter has in their Collection, whose total value exceeds the value of the Purchases named in that Purchase Submission.

In the same rule amend the last paragraph to read as follows:

When a Purchase Submission is resolved, the Collector carries out the following atomic action:

* Sum the value of the pieces of art in the Collection of the submitting Broker that were named within that Purchase Submission; that number is that Broker’s Budget
* Remove all pieces of art that were named within that Purchase Submission from the Collection of the submitting Broker
* For each purchase on the list in order, subtract the cost of each Purchase from the submitter’s Budget. If at any time the next Purchase on the list has a Cost which exceeds the Budget of the Broker who made the submission, or if it did not specify the necessary information needed to apply the effect, disregard it and aby subsequent purchase on the list for the rest of this resolution.
* Apply the effects of each successful Purchase in the order that they appeared on the list
* Set the Broker’s Budget to zero

If any pieces of art in ant Broker’s Collections have appreciated, revert the appreciation.

Cutting out the middleman; instead of having a clumsy middle currency, let’s just directly swap art for favours.

So you have to spend all your art at once?

Some suggestions I would make

1) Reset the value of all art, so that if a round starts after sellers market passes but before this does, people don’t get appreciation bonuses.

2) Maybe make it so that if you have more than $500 budget at the end, you get a piece of art of value budget - 500. That way there is still some cost to using more expensive art, but you have the option to pay a little and hold stuff for later.

3) Consider giving everyone a once per dynasty option to commission a self portrait worth say $3000 or maybe $5000 so that everyone has stuff to spend a some point to account for the $5000 in cash everyone starts with under sellers market.

(where by “all your art at once” I mean all of the value of a piece of art. but you could sell one piece and not another)

Yes potentially you have to overspend.

Your suggestions are good! I don’t want to overstuff this proposal but I’d be up for a follow-on proposal along those veins if this looks like heading in the right direction.

Yeah I get its tricky to not wanting to overstuff proposals. But at the same time, the possibility of just getting this and then getting 2 and 3 shot down later makes me more hesitant to vote for this.

I’ve added a rider to revert appreciations. I think commissions and change-paintings might have to wait, although I will note that there is currently no legal value that a painting can have that doesn’t mean that it can’t be spent fully on some combination of purchases.

against I’m not a huge fan of this. I would like to keep Sellers Market, and I don’t feel like being forced to exchange all of your paintings at once is a good call. Although I am aware that subsequent proposals could streamline this significantly, I also don’t like the idea of permanently getting rid of pieces of art, especially as they could be made more significant later on.
