Proposal: The Children of the Night

Timed out and enacted, 4-0, with 2 unresolved DEFs.

Adminned at 10 Jul 2021 14:15:45 UTC

If Richardo von Nestor voted against this proposal, it has no further effect.

To “Crypt Denizens”, add:-

When a Denizen Roams, it changes its Location to a randomly-selected Lit Ordinary room that is orthogonally adjacent to its current Location (if any such rooms exist).

To “Richardo’s Journey”, add a point after “He retreats; reset all of his gamestate variables to null values.”:-

* For each Denizen, choose a secretly random coin side which can be either heads or tails: if tails is chosen, that Denizen Roams.

In the description of “Evasive”, replace “changes its Location to a randomly-selected Lit room that is orthogonally adjacent to its current Location” with “Roams”.

Should Denizens be able to roam into non-ordinary rooms? We don’t let you move them there.

Not a bad idea: limiting it to Lit Ordinary rooms would also keep them away from the entrance. Updated.

it does seem a bit mechanically odd that these randomly moving monsters would know to avoid where Richardo is entering. but I guess maybe there is light or something pouring from the entrance so they avoid it?

(maybe I’m just slightly bummed sneak isn’t a thing cause that would’ve enabled us to move monsters next to the entrance without causing any problems =D)

I’m not sure why the first line is necessary; Richardo has a veto, so all it does is prevent him casting a non-binding against vote if he wants to.

Or has BlogNomic reached a point where the veto is never used, except to clean up dynastic proposals from a previous dynasty?

Pretty much the latter. It also stops people from casting “this is more work for the Emperor, so it’s up to them” DEF votes, which can be misread as a big yawn (as may be happening at Systematic Scouring) if people aren’t explaining their votes.

It might be better as “if Josh hasn’t voted FOR or commented ARROW”, since it wouldn’t be polite to vote some Imperial bureaucracy through overnight before the Emperor could comment or veto. But Josh has presumably given his blessing above, now.

FWIW I have zero problem with dropping a veto on something that I don’t want to administer or find to be an unreasonable burden, as “Systematic Scouring” might find out if it looks like passing.

@Josh: if you think it’s too much of a burden to administer, you should probably veto it immediately, rather than waiting for it to get close to passing – you might end up getting surprised by it passing while you’re asleep, and in any case are making people debate/think about something that can’t pass.

Thanks for the instruction, ais, I’m obviously new to this and need plenty of handholding to know what I’m doing
