The Great Work

Add the following Machine into Machines:

Magnum Opus
- Cost: 1 or more Prototypes
- Effect: At the end of the next Cycle, if the Contents of this Magnum Opus are more than the Contents of any other Magnum Opus, achieve victory.

In “Machines”, prepend

A Machine may have Contents, which is a value equal to the amount last paid to purchase or activate the Machine (updated after the activation resolves), tracked in parentheses after the machine’s name. Contents are only tracked for Machines that reference Contents in their text.

before

The list of available types of Machine are as follows:

In “Storage”. replace

Gain whatever box was most recently spent to purchase or activate this machine, prior to the current activation. (The value of that box is tracked in parenthesis after the machines name)

with

Gain this Machine’s Contents.

If “Fairer Farming” passed, replace

for each Hot Greenhouse you own, gain a Crop corresponding to the Seed last used to activate it, plus a Seed of the type last used to activate it.

with

Effect: for each Hot Greenhouse you own, gain its Seed Contents, plus a Crop corresponding to its Seed Contents.

in “Harvester”, and replace

The type of Seed used to activate this Greenhouse is recorded in parentheses next to this Greenhouse in the list of Machines.

with

None

in “Greenhouse”.

Taking a first stab at a victory mechanic, an arms race to spend the most Prototypes on building a great… something.  Also keywording “amount last used to purchase or activate this Machine” and parenthetical tracking, since this is likely to be the third machine with this mechanic, and probably won’t be the last.

against first off, as someone who has not gotten into prototpyes I see no reason why I should reward people who have. far better to leave it as a junk resources that doesn’t do anything

secondly, this feels way too easy to activate. You and ais could team up, have one of you activate it, and split a victory 50/50

oh also apparently this isn’t a proposal yet

Huh, thought I tagged it. In response to the teaming concern, there’s a built-in 1-cycle delay, so if we tried that, any one person can buy a Magnum Opus for 1 prototype (can be done in a single Cycle) to block us.

well you need to spend the prototype to buy it. thus blocking is only short term

it puts the game on a constant clock. which is no fun for anyone except those in the lead, especially this early into the dynasty

would much rather just see prototypes be a dead mechanic. would be a helpful lesson for the people who invested in something before it was actually fleshed out mechanically to learn about how nomic is played =)

I believe this was illegally turned into a votable matter per: “However, despite this, official posts can never be changed from one category to another, or changed to be a different sort of official post, if they have been posted for more than fifteen minutes.”

post was made at 16:08, and I had pointed out at 16:27 (19 minutes later) it was not a proposal.

A clock is good, better than a game that goes on forever or a dynasty that ends anticlimactically with “we’re bored of this dynasty, let’s just randomly pick a winner weighted by amount of Apples picked”.

“Secondly, if a post by a New Worker is not in any category but follows the wording of a Proposal, in that it has written changes the gamestate and or Ruleset, and if it has been posted for less than six hours, then any Admin may change it to be in the Proposal category. A New Worker is defined as a Worker who has been a Worker for fewer than seven days or a Worker that has unidled in the past seven days after being idle for at least 3 months.”

Ah, guess it would have to be an admin making the change, but the post does qualify for a “this was meant to be a proposal” exemption.

there are plenty of ways to end dynasties without clocks. we can have long goals you have to work to achieve rather than just getting the right combination of lucky with your timing/alliances.

anything that would in theory allow the dynasty to end in three days just seems like a bad idea to me

also I think the easiest thing to do if you still want to go through with the idea is to just redo the proposal properly. at this point I think we’d need a CfJ to uphold the illegal modifying of the proposal not making it permanently illegal.

Delayed triggers should be avoided if possible.

Will usually vote against  for proposals that involves delayed triggers.
