Proposal: Universal Tax

Withdrawn. Failed by JonathanDark.

Adminned at 29 Nov 2024 21:27:53 UTC

If the proposals “Move Tax” and “Fair Tax” both failed, add the following to Moving:

The number of Moves each Snail has performed in an Ongoing Race is publicly tracked on the dynastic tracking page. The Pace in an Ongoing Race is equal to the fewest number of Moves made in that race by any non-Slug Snail (ignoring any Snail that is not legally allowed to make any moves). A Snail’s Margin in an Ongoing Race is equal to the number of Moves they have made in the Race minus Pace of that Race.

If the proposal “Marvellous Mollusks” did not pass, add the following to a new rule titled “The Award Ceremony”:

Each non-Slug Snail has a publicly tracked numeric amount of Fame, which defaults to 0

In the rule Moving, replace “specifying one of the actions listed below” with

specifying one of the actions listed below, and reducing their Fame by one third of their Margin rounded down.

Set the effect of Crawl to

Increase your Position by DICE10

If the Margin calculations must be defined and applied separately for each Move, it will make it much more difficult to propose new Moves and make Moves in Races.

I agree with the idea that Margin calculations should be unified somehow. However, if you reach or already have 0 Fame, there is no penalty at that point to make as many Moves as you want, since you can’t decrease your Fame below 0 legally.

Maybe this is ok: Moves can be exploited for catch-up purposes or just to get things started, but once you’ve got some Fame to compete with, you’ll be less likely to risk the Fame you have.

I feel like allowing each move to scale its costs to spamming might be best. Not all moves are going to be created equal, so applying the same cost to each move could wind up causing problems.

I think we’re converging on just leaving in the limited Moves, plus now rewarding fewer Moves with more Fame.
