Proposal: Wish Queue

Self-killed, failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 08 Jan 2010 09:34:45 UTC

In Rule 2.4 after the sentence:

The Djinni is unable to grant any Wishes or Boons while he is inside the Lamp.

Add another sentence which says:

Any wish made when the Djinni is inside the Lamp will be automatically denied.

Prevent building up a backlog of wishes when the Djinni is in the Lamp.

against I don’t see any advantage to doing it this way, and I can see some scam potential in being able to restrict when wishes can be submitted.

Explicitly Abstaining.

Ergh.  Funny, but I actually assumed that this already was the case—though now I realize that it obviously wasn’t explicitly declared.  I agree with this in terms of “realism” for lack of a better term—how can you request a wish from a Djinn if the Djinn can’t hear you from within a lamp?  for for the sake of remaining true to One Thousand And One Nights…

The problem is that if I free the djinni from the lamp, make a wish, have a couple of friends make a wish, and then do something to put the djinni back in the lamp, there’s potentially quite a small window for other players to actually submit any wishes.

which would be perfectly fine if possession of the lamp were a more fluid thing.  Perhaps we need to discuss where we’d even like this game to go before we get too wrapped up in mechanics.  If we’re going to play the whole hunt-the-globe-for-relics game, maybe it would be applicable to have the lamp magically jump to a different location after every wish, and require possession of the lamp to even -make- a wish.  Just a thought…

@Aqua: We’re already in the ending stages of the dynasty. Also, the game is not about making a game and playing it. The game is about changing the rules.

But I like your idea.

How exactly are we in the ending stages of the dynasty? And I think quite a lot of us here consider nomic to be about making a game and playing it.

Again, Darth speaks only for himself…

The ending stages, IMHO, begin when a victory condition is added.

Each to their own.

The ending stages of this dynasty, then, are likely to be substantially longer than the earlier ones. And that would also make the dynasty of SatyrEyes one long ending stage…

I find that it’s best not to overthink what Nomic should be. You end up shutting off a lot of possibilities by proscribing.

(Although I will probably avoid trying to incorporate Twitter into proposals in future.)
