Proposal: Without Fear or Favour

Add the following to the end of the rule Favorites:

For the purpose of matching Favorites to words, or for the purposes of restrictions on selecting Favorites by comparison to existing corpora, differences in pluralization, tense or grammatical aspect are considered to be irrelevant.

As a daily action, if they have not added any words to their Favorites that day, and if an official post other than a Backronym has been posted by any other Wordsmith or the Puzzler that day that includes a word from their Favorites in its title, a Wordsmith may make a Claim. A Claim is a post in the Story Posts category that details the word in their Favorites and the post that uses it in the title. Upon posting a Claim, the Wordsmith may gain 1 point for every word from their Favorites that was thus used. The Puzzler should then remove that word from that Wordsmith’s Favorites.

In the same rule, change the second item in the bulleted list to read:

That word is not in the Word Bank, and has not been used in the title of an official post in the current dynasty.

Expanding favourites out to proposals and CfJs, as the proposalnym meta is broader and gives more opportunities for an underpowered mechanic to work. Also bringing in one uncontroversial change from a proposal made by Bucky earlier in the dynasty.

against it is pretty much impossible to backcheck what words are used in the title of an official post and i feel like it make setting favourites extremely hard.

Oh, I find that pretty easy? You can either just ctrl-f the monthly front pages or use the edit form. Either way, pretty trivial.

when the front pages spread two months and there is other stuff in june that doesn’t fit in this dynasty i feel ehhhhh

and also; i think the bucky change is not as uncontroversal as stated?

> (neg) I don’t know what “grammatical aspects” and “positive forms” are, but this bypasses the letter/Bank/Filler restrictions on setting Favorites: if a player uses the word “Best” in a Backronym for ABC, you can set a Favorite of “Good” in response (because “Good” doesn’t start with B or appear in the Word Bank) and then score “Best” for being the superlative version of it. > (wd) per Kevan, solely on the first letter problem.

Positive form is the base form of an adjective.
Positive: Quick
Comparative: Quicker (bucky)

Grammatical aspects was necessary to capture -ing for verbs.

ahh; the other thing is superlatives clause. but; i don’t like this simply based on if i go to june 2025 and ctrl f it would return other stuff that isn’t in this dynasty!

arrow I feel like this is a good idea, but this encourages people to post their proposals at 11:59 so that no one has time to claim off of them

against because of the last change

This doesn’t actually fix the reason I withdrew my own proposal!

against Also overpowered that we could just publicly ask other players to make proposals with our Favorites in the titles, and do the same for them in return. That’s an easy five points per round (ten for the round it enacts in), a better payout than the main Acronym game.
