Enact the following rule:

There exists a game action called “Advance”. Occasionaly a Lifeform may Advance by posting the text “Advance:(Trait)” to the GNDT, where Trait is the name of an Inactive Trait. In order to Advance, the Lifeform must pay double the Cost associated with the Trait, and meet all the Requirements for the Trait. When a Lifeform Advances a Trait, it becomes an Active Trait, and the Lifeform gains that Trait. The Lifeform should update the Creature Page and the List of Traits accordingly.

Whenever a Lifeform would purchase an Active Trait, the Lifeform that Advanced that trait gains 5 DNA points.

A way to get Traits onto the active list, at a cost, but also at an ongoing reward to the player to first advance the trait.

for, but I think it would be better to make a post to do this, so as to be more visible.

I like the idea.  There are just a few minor points I’d like to mention:

-The Inactive/Active list was designed to allow people to balance traits before they were brought into play.  While this does help in the fact that the first Lifeform must pay more, it still might allow a trait that isn’t properly balanced to enter (not that I care that much, but other people might).
-Keeping track of which Lifeform has advanced which trait and adding the 5 DNA each time might be annoying (the first could probably be solved by adding the Lifeform’s name in the list of traits).  I think that the 5 DNA is probably small enough that this part could be cut in any case.
-Not a problem, but a Lifeform can have advanced a trait that e no longer has.  Is this intentional?
