Vow of Intellect: Monks undergoing this vow shall carry a book around with them at all times. Only monks with a knowledge greater than 10 may take this vow.

against it’s a bit contrived.  Monastic vows usually involve giving something up.  All this gives up is a little of your carrying power (and you might want the carry the book anyway).
