it’s a bit contrived. Monastic vows usually involve giving something up. All this gives up is a little of your carrying power (and you might want the carry the book anyway).
Thus saith the Lord to me; Make thee bonds and yokes, and put them upon thy neck. (Jeremiah 27:2)

Besides, this one also requires that a monk had done at least eight knowledge increasing actions.
