Proposal: Lowest Common Denominator

In “The Night” replace “If any Dishes with identical ingredients as the Choice are available with a lower price on another Truck’s Menu, the Yard selects one of those other Dishes at random and this becomes the customer’s Choice instead” with “If any Dishes with identical ingredients as the Choice are available with a lower price on another Truck’s Menu, the Yard selects one of those other Dishes which has the lowest price at random and this becomes the customer’s Choice instead”

If there are three dishes at $10, $8 and $5 customer isn’t just going to randomly pick between the $8 and the $5 they are gonna buy the $5

Right now, I feel a good collab strategy would be to price a bunch of stuff at $20 and others at $19 and then get your buddy to flip the $20s and $19s on their menu. Then even if someone else copies you, your buddy might still get the $19

against Makes camping on $1 too boringly effective.

Setting all your prices to $1 and maybe winning a few dishes you’re still only making $3-4 a round. Doesn’t really strike me as something that is gonna be an effective strategy

against irl I don’t necessarily always go for THE cheapest option. I may be willing to pick something more middle of the road if I’m getting something else out of it.

The simulation heuristic I was going for was that you might compare the price to a few other trucks within sight or a short walking distance, but you wouldn’t check all of them before ordering. If every truck sells identical beef kebabs in the $15-20 range and Buddy’s Budget BBQ sells them for $1, it feels realistic for the mainstream cartel to still be making a lot of sales.
