Proposal: It Can’t Be That Easy

In the rule “Teams and Targets {I}”, after the text “specifying which Mastermind it is when making that random selection” add the text “, and discarding the result if the EFF Word from that random selection appears anywhere in the ruleset at the time that selection was made.”

It doesn’t seem all that fun for a team to get lucky and receive a Target word that is already in the ruleset. We’ve also dinged Proposals for having EFF Words in them (not the current Targets, but potential future ones), whether accidental or on purpose.

Let’s just make that not a possibility so that it’s always dynastic work to get to your Target.

I agree with the sentiment behind this – the Heist Action’s DICE48 does a lot to make things interesting or at least give players a chance when one team gets luckier than the other with participant and word assignment, but flukes where a team can score immediately bypass that and remove most of the interesting gameplay from the round. (Note that there are legitimate reasons to not score immediately – it might be possible to get the Agenda too, and you can in effect race your Agenda against the other team’s Target – but the rest of you successfully peer-pressured me into moving on to the next round.)

Even if you held out on scoring immediately, it would have put the other team on notice to try every risky move in the book in hopes of beating you to either scoring at your whim or scoring your Agenda and then your Target, so this state still creates a severe imbalance.

And while “panic mode” might be its own fun to some, this dynasty is already rough for some with its near-real-time demands. This exacerbates that need to an unplayable pitch, in my opinion.

Right – I think delaying the score would probably have been a bad idea.

I’m hoping that the changes to make sniping harder also reduce the synchronisation requirements and make the dynastic gameplay less demanding on time; the recent situation with “folk”/“praying” was a bit of a special case.

for Maybe it should also apply to Agendas, though that isn’t as critical (at least getting an instant Agenda doesn’t shut down the other team’s scoring potential)

Yeah, I didn’t want to weigh in on Agendas and burden this simple idea.
