Is “who has not been Collector” intended to rule out players who’ve already had dynasties, or just players who’ve already had the mantle passed to them in this one?

It’s meant to be the second, but it might mean the first in part thanks to Synonyms.

I voted for in the basis of it being the first, and have been mulling a kind of special-case handicap system for previous winners

At the end of the dynasty I could almost see this being modified somehow to become part of the core rules.

@Trapdoorspyder: I’m glad you think so! For context, this is a more elegant version (inspired by Kevan’s comment on the proposal) of this proposal, which would have been a special case rule we keep around. If it ends up a success this time, I’d still also like to promote it to special case.

I see. This one is a lot better worded in my opinion. As a new player, I’m going to assume that broker also implies non-idle broker.

I’m a bit on the fence. This should be reworded to something like “who has not been Collector in any previous dynasty or held the mantle in this dynasty, with higher Kudos than the Protege.”

so we don’t get in a scenario where there are two players who haven’t run a dynasty before but neither of them actually want the mantle but are incapable of passing it to anyone but themselves

worst case scenario, we never get a fix passed and have to CfJ when that happens. whereas shoot this down and there is a chance the new version never gets passed and we don’t get the proposal at all.

So new players can block old players from being kingmakers by outscoring them, but not vice versa. Alright.

[Trapdoorspyder] Absolutely right, the Idle Brokers rule has that safely covered: “For the purposes of all Gamestate and the Ruleset, excluding Rules “Ruleset and Gamestate”, “Brokers”, “Dynasties”, “Fair Play”, “Mentors” and any of those Rules’ subrules, Idle Brokers are not counted as Brokers.”

I’ve been thinking about this and I think it could use a small change at some point that specifies that the player who would receive the mantle because of this rule must also want to receive it.
