Proposal: That information is above your clearance level.

If the proposal entitled “What is your name, Citizen?” Failed, this proposal does nothing.

In the rule entitled “Naming Scheme” change the text

A Citizen’s prime-name defaults to their name.

to

A Citizen’s prime-name defaults to their name, with the first letter capitalized, the rest lowercased, and all non-letters removed.

Create 9 subsections of the dynastic rules, entitle them “ULTRAVIOLET”, “VIOLET”, “INDIGO”, “BLUE”, “GREEN”, “YELLOW”, “ORANGE”, “RED”, and “INFRARED”.

Move the rules entitled “Naming Scheme”, “Clearance Levels”, and “Clones” along with all of their sub-rules, to the ULTRAVIOLET subsection of the dynastic rules.

Add the following text to the end of the rule entitled “Clearance Levels”

All dynastic rules have a Clearance Level. The Clearance Level of a dynastic rule is the section of the Dynastic rules which it is in. If a Dynastic Rule is ever without a Clearance Level, its Clearance Level becomes INFRARED.

Create a subrule of the rule entitled “Clearance Levels” entitled “Information Clearance” and give it the text

For the purposes of any given dynastic Rule, no Citizen with a Clearance Level higher than the Clearance Level of that Rule is a Citizen.

No Citizen may Author a Proposal that Creates, Modifies, or Repeals a Dynastic Rule with a clearance higher than their own.

Citizens of ULTRAVIOLET Clearance may change the Clearance Level of any rule of Clearance Violet or lower by making a Story Post stating their intention to do so.

This will (I hope) be one of the major parts of the dynasty. Note that you must follow rules of your Clearance and higher.
TODO: allow citizens of high clearances to repeal and change clearance of low level rules (hinted at with the last sentence of the rule, but should be generalized.), Allow citizens of higher levels to modify the clearance of created rules when voting on proposals.

Commendation Point to Citizen Hix-R-BGN-1 for bringing the improvement of rule “Naming Scheme” to my attention.
Treason Point to Citizen Hix-R-BGN-1 for suggesting that the original rule was flawed.

for though the part that says “no Citizen with a Clearance Level higher than the Clearance Level of that Rule is a Citizen.” should probably have an “unless explicitly stated in that rule” after it.

imperial Last sentence of the last rule should probably say “dynastic” just to be sure; although I don’t see what harm it does at the moment, we’ll have to be careful in future.

@ais523: If we ever give a clearance level to a core rule for some reason, why wouldn’t we allow the clearance level to be changed by the same mechanics as the dynastic rules? It seems to me that if we allow a core rule to have a clearance, we should take our medicine for doing so.

ais523:

@lilomar: I’m worried that core rules may later gain clearance levels by accident.

lilomar:

@ais523, In order for that to happen, the definition of a rule with a clearance level would have to change to include core rules. I trust bn to keep a collective eye on that to keep it from happening.

But I agree, we should be very careful to make sure that doesn’t happen.

@ais: Is that so bad? They’ll drop off at the end of the dynasty when Clearance Levels cease to be defined, and it’s not as if we can’t already wreck the core rules with a misguided search-and-replace proposal.
