I don’t particularly like closing down scams like this. The usual approach is take the loss and fix the rule, not to revert the accomplishment.

A pause on Sale actions isn’t urgent, as I can’t perform one until “all Closed Trucks have performed a Closed Action”. If any single Closed Truck wants to wait, we wait.

And as far as “Closed trucks are considered consented to getting left behind”, the consent happened when those Trucks voted in favor of the Proposals that set up the situation, whether those Trucks realized it or not.

It’s not really as if the closed trucks were considered ‘consented’ or anything - it was just a straight up scam. Little moments and plays like this are unironically part of what I like about BlogNomic

* Kevan’s ability to be Scam-Adverse hinges on Kevan being able to spot the scam before it happens. If he misses it, I think it’s fair game.

There is an upside: Closed Trucks are now required to perform/set a Closed Action to allow the dynastic game to continue. You can still make Proposals to take advantage of this situation and take as long as you want, as the Open Trucks are “stuck” Open and can’t perform the Closed Actions that the Closed Trucks can.

We got scammed- doesn’t seem fair to undo it, to me.

In the Ruleset; taking a Night action is a may; which is not something the rules require them to.

[Chiiika] That’s a fair comment on Imperial Style, the relevant one I announced was that I’d be Scam-Averse (“will alert players to any loopholes they notice; will veto major scams; will only assist a scam if the rules require them to”) “for the first week or so”. I’d mentally filed that as being more about not waving early loopholes through when I noticed them in proposals (I hadn’t noticed it at the proposal stage, in this case), than watching for loopholes once they were in the ruleset and doing everything I could to point them out and block them. I also hadn’t been considering whether we’d reached a “week or so” yet.

So that’s on me, and I apologise for it. Under my style I should have announced the loophole to the group as soon as I was made aware of it, rather than staying quiet for half an hour until it was possible to perform the action.

Whether I should have dug my heels in and refused to perform the “should make a post announcing that the game has entered the Serve Phase” action at all when it became valid to do so, because doing so would be assisting a scam, I’m less sure.

We ascended 24th July; so it is not even a week in.

Apology accepted; and it is also on me that kinda had felt a false sense of security, and I’m not really angry moreso just feeling like “huh?”

I’m happy with you saying what your intended way to resolve this w/rt to your Imp Style is; keeping this scam as is or not.

I’d be happy to put my vote behind rolling things back, on the grounds that I definitely should have flagged the loophole, under my Style, and that that could have given enough time for someone to decide to block it by going Open without setting a Menu.

But I think the resolution is already within the players’ hands: the next step now relies entirely on ten Closed Trucks all voluntarily taking a Closed Action before the game can proceed to the Night action. They’re under no obligation to do that. If they decide that they would rather go back to the Prep phase than do that, they have a large majority for such a proposal or CfJ.
