Come on guys

Nomic is supposed to supposed to be a game where intelligent civilized people have fun changing the rules while taking part in the game as the rules change. The structure we have here works amazingly well—a fixed framework keeps provides the same basic outline for each game, and then the dynamic dynasties keep the game fun and interesting. The framework was never designed to be idiot proof, because this game wasn’t supposed to be played by idiots. While finding loopholes and abusing dynastic rules (within reason) is all good fun and games, the framework the dynastic rules are put in is not designed for this kind of abuse. Why can’t we just all agree to get along like civilized people and not abuse the framework—and then punish the players who, even after warning, abuse the framework rather than scurrying to fix everything. You can apply fixes all you want—but holes are a whole lot easier to create than patch up. If we keep at this “find hole abuse hole patch hole” mentality, it will never end. If, instead, we all agree not to abuse the framework each dynasty fits in, we can spend more time nomicing and less time worrying about stupid stuff.

So yeah—don’t use CfJ’s to fix the ruleset. CfJ’s are there to resolve disputes, not change the rules. Don’t use the CfJ to do something that you just don’t have the balls to do yourself, like banning an active member for trying to help out. Don’t use CfJ’s just because you can, or to prove a point. Don’t go crazy just because someone posted a completely harmless CfJ that only took a minute of your time to vote down, but at the same time, don’t post those pointless CfJs in the first place. In other words, use common sense. Or in words that I know Elias will agree with and I hope everyone else—Don’t do stupid stuff and be excellent to each other. Those to rules should apply to your lives in general, but at least try and apply them here and any other community you want to be respected in.

We are mostly using CfJs to revert bad abuse of the core rules.

Or at least, we are mostly passing CfJs that do that.

none of the five pending CfJ do that, and few of of the half a million CfJs at the end of the last dynasty did either.
