Proposal: Time Trap!

Vetoed/Failed by Hix to clear the queue.

Amend the Rule “The Contiuum”:

If variables ‘w’ and ‘z’ are both zero, then all Travellers within range of TL [t]/[x]/[y] are trapped. Trapped Travellers may not change the Time Travel Variables. Thus, TL [t]/[x]/[y] would be the only jumpable TL for all Travellers.

An individual Traveller may escape the trap by decreasing eir Influence until e is no longer within range of TL [t]/[x]/[y]. A non-trapped Traveller can dismiss or move the trap by changing the Time Travel Variables using a valid Formula:

  • If ‘w’ or ‘z’ are set to a non-zero value, then the trap is dismissed.
  • If ‘t’, ‘x’, or ‘y’ are changed, then the trap’s effect moves to TL [t]/[x]/[y].

The language is mildly imprecise, but I could really get to like some rules like this.

Tricky.  Very tricky.  I like.  for

ooh.  CoV because “Trapped” is italicized.

Clarification:  As written, the rule implies that the Travellers are zero, not trapped.

Bucky: what do you mean by “the Travellers are zero”?

kaddar:

He means because of the italicization, this implies the sentence is:

“If variables ‘w’ and ‘z’ are both zero, then all Travellers within range of TL [t]/[x]/[y] are.”

this because of the rule:
  *  Italicized text is not considered part of the ruleset and may be used to clarify rules with examples, notes, and flavor text.

Again, the italics.

veto Good idea.  Clean up the language and be careful with those italics.  The line “Thus, TL [t]/[x]/[y] would be the only jumpable TL for all Travellers.” seems unnecessary, and could possibly be misinterpreted to mean that no Travellers (trapped or not) may use any method of time travel to go to any other date.

Come to think of it, most of the latter part of the rule is not needed, either.  How about simply “If (and only if) variables ‘w’ and ‘z’ are both zero, any Traveller whose Range includes [t]/[x]/[y] is Trapped.  Trapped Travellers may not change the Time Travel Variables.  A Trapped Traveller may decrease eir Influence by the minimum amount necessary to cause that Traveller to be no longer Trapped.”

ok, thanks for the feedback. I’ll close this Proposal.

Whoa, don’t do that again!  (I just undid it).  Just vote against your own proposal—that’ll guarantee that it doesn’t pass, and you’ll probably get your proposal slot back just as soon as this proposal comes up in the queue.
