Create a new rule “Titles” with the following text:

An Orc may hold Titles which are symbols of their prowess and have varying effects on the gamestate. Titles are tracked in the GNDT. Each Title may be held by only one Orc at any time. The available Titles are:
• Warlord: The Warlord may, as a periodic action, gain 1 Warrior if they do not currently have the highest number of warriors among all Orcs.
• Collier: The Collier may, as a periodic action, gain 1 Miner if they do not currently have the highest number of Miners among all Orcs.
• Taskmaster: The Taskmaster receives 1 additional spoil per 2 Miner whenever Time Advances.
• Browbeater: The Browbeater may, as a periodic action, set their Clan Bond to any other Orc and set that Orcs Clan Bond to the Browbeater.
• Workaholic: The Workaholic may, as a periodic action, choose any periodic action they could normally preform and preform that action as though they had not already done so that period.
• Adventurer: For any Quest the Adventure is a Rider on, the result of the DICE roll is increased by 1 for the purposes of determining success or failure.

An Orc may claim a Title by paying 5 Warriors if their Warriors are greater than the number of Warriors of the Orc who currently possesses the Title. When an Orc claims a Title it is added to their Titles and removed from any other Orc’s Titles.
Any Orc that has at least 5 Titles has Achieved Victory. Any Title held by no Orc when Time Advances is randomly assigned to the Orc listed in this rule who as the fewest current titles, in the event of a tie the Title should be assigned randomly via a DICE roll in the GNDT. If an Orc becomes idle remove their name from this rule and if an Orc unidles add their name to this rule. The Orc Larrytheturtle : Brendan : Cheshire : Moonroof : Pigheadedgnu : Quirck

Proposal: Claiming the Crown

Self-killed -Larrytheturtle

Adminned at 29 Feb 2016 21:48:51 UTC

An Orc achieves victory if they have Warriors equal to or greater than X*3, where X is the Warriors of all other Orcs combined.

Proposal: Raiders of the Lost Orc

Adminned at 29 Feb 2016 21:46:36 UTC

Add a new rule, entitled “Raids”, with the following text:

An Orc may, as a Periodic Action, either start or join a raid. An Orc may start a raid by making a post with “Raid” in the title, and declaring which Orc they are raiding. An Orc may join a raid against any other Orc that they do not have a Clan Bond with by voting for in a comment on the raid post, subject to all normal rules of voting. A raid is “Ready” if the members of the raid altogether have at least three times as many warriors as the Orc they’re raiding.

If a Raid is Ready, it may be executed. To execute a raid, the player who started the raid claims half of the target’s spoils and divides them among all members of the raid. Each member must be given at least one spoil this way. Each Raid may only be executed once.

Add the following text to the rule “Advancing Time”:

2. All raids that have not been executed are canceled. Canceled raids are never considered to be Ready and cannot be Executed.

Okay, let’s have another try at a combat mechanic. Orcs ganging up on each-other, with the potential for betrayals as well (to a degree at least).

Proposal: Zug Zug Zug

Passes 6-0 -Larrytheturtle

Adminned at 29 Feb 2016 21:39:50 UTC

Add a new rule called “Quests” as follows:

As a Weekly Action, an Orc may open a Quest by creating a Story Post titled “Quest: Name of Quest” where Name of Quest is any name that has not been used for a Quest before. In the body of such a post, they should describe the goal of the Quest, and must state the Target Number of the Quest, which is any positive integer greater than 2.

Any Orc may commit Warriors to an open Quest by paying an amount of Warriors and making a comment on the Quest’s Story Post stating clearly that they are committing that many Warriors. They may do this more than once, and all such commitments are cumulative. Any Orc who has committed at least one Warrior to a given Quest is a Rider on that Quest.

If at least 24 hours have passed since a given Quest was opened, any Rider on an open Quest may resolve that Quest by rolling DICEX in the GNDT (with a comment stating which Quest they are resolving), where X is the total number of Warriors committed by all Orcs to that Quest. If the result equals or exceeds the Target Number of the Quest, that Quest succeeds; otherwise that Quest fails. If the Quest succeeds, each Rider on that Quest receives x*y Spoils and y Warriors, where x is the Target Number of the Quest and y is the number of Warriors that Rider committed to it.

Once a Quest has been resolved, it is no longer an open Quest. An Orc may not open a new Quest while a Quest they opened is still open.

Substantially the same as the previous version, but riskier: this time you only get your Warriors back if the Quest succeeds.

Proposal: Insert Frequency Joke Here

Reaches quorum and passes 5-0. -RaichuKFM

Adminned at 28 Feb 2016 02:18:08 UTC

Add a new Rule, entitled “Periodic Actions”, containing the following text:

A Period is a length of time, that ends when Time is Advanced. When Time is Advanced, a new Period begins.

If a game action is a Periodic Action, each Orc able to perform it may take that action only once in a single Period, and not more than once every ten hours.

In the Rule Strongholds, replace all mentions of “Daily Action” with “Periodic Action”.

Rough draft, it seems kinda fuzzy, and I don’t have a catchy name, but here’s a simple idea.

It seems a better framework than cluttering Advancing Time with things like “Every Orc with a Shame Hut and zero Spoils gains one Miner” before the current first step. Thoughts?

(Don’t bother with notes: on this.)

Advancing Time

Add a new rule called “Quests” as follows:

As a Weekly Action, an Orc may open a Quest by creating a Story Post titled “Quest: Name of Quest” where Name of Quest is any name that has not been used for a Quest before. In the body of such a post, they should describe the goal of the Quest, and must state the Target Number of the Quest, which is any positive integer greater than 2.

If the result equals or exceeds the Target Number of the Quest, that Quest succeeds; otherwise that Quest fails. Upon resolution, each Rider on the Quest receives x-1 Warriors, where x is the total number of Warriors that Rider committed to the Quest. In addition, if the Quest succeeded, each Rider on that Quest receives x*y Spoils, where x is the Target Number of the Quest and y is the number of Warriors that Rider committed to it.

Once a Quest has been resolved, it is no longer an open Quest. An Orc may not open a new Quest while a Quest they opened is still open.

We can make this more complicated and interesting later, but I’m curious to see if the basic mechanic interests people.

Add to the rule “Clan Bond” the following:

When a Clan Gathering ends, it ceases to be a Clan Gathering, and further comments on its Story Post have no effect. When 48 hours have passed since a Clan Gathering Story Post was created, that Clan Gathering ends. When any Orc posts a new Clan Gathering, any previous Clan Gatherings end.

In addition, change the text “collective weekly action” in the rule “Clan Bond” to read “Weekly Communal Action.”

Proposal: Show of Force

Can’t pass with less than quorum not voting against, and fails 1-5. -RaichuKFM

Adminned at 26 Feb 2016 19:32:22 UTC

Create a rule “Show of Force” with the following text:

Whenever an Orc casts a vote on a votable matter other than a CfJ, they may spend any quantity of Warriors. If they do so then they may append the words “Show of Force:X” to their EVC, where X is the number of Warriors thus spent . If an Orc who has spent Warriors on a vote changes that vote then the Warriors are lost; it is neither returned to them nor is it transferred to the new vote.

When a proposal is resolved, its eligibility for resolution (i.e. whether or not the number of votes cast equal or exceed quorum) is calculated ignoring Warriors. Any Warriors attached to an EVC is added to the counts FOR and AGAINST for the purposes of determining whether or not the votable matter has passed or failed. No proposal may pass if only one player has an EVC FOR, regardless of the amount of Warriors appended to EVCs on that proposal.

Proposal: Rampaging hordes

Fails 1-5 -Larrytheturtle

Adminned at 25 Feb 2016 00:42:40 UTC

Add a new rule called “Honor” with the following text:

Each Orc has an amount of “Honor”, tracked as a numerical field in the GNDT. Orcs start with 5 honor by default.

Add the following text to the rule “Warlords”:

Each Orc has a number of Hordes, tracked as a numerical field in the GNDT, defaulting to 0. Any Orc may, as a daily action convert a warrior into a horde or vice-versa.

Add the following text to the rule “Clan Bond”, after the sentence “As a collective weekly action, any Orc may call a Clan Gathering by making a Story Post that includes the phrase “Clan Gathering” in the title.”

Whenever a Clan Gathering is called, the orc with the most hordes gains one honor, and the orc with the fewest hordes loses one honor. In the case of a tie, all tied players gain or lose one honor as appropriate. The Orc who calls the gathering is in charge of making these changes to the GNDT.

The humans still choose to disrespect us. Come, brothers, let us remind them that we are to be feared.

Proposal: Orcning Glories

Times out and passes 4-0 -Larrytheturtle

Adminned at 24 Feb 2016 07:29:28 UTC

Add a new rule called “Strongholds” with the following text:

Each Orc has a Stronghold to house their Minions and Spoils. A Stronghold may have up to three Glories, which are tracked via a list in the GNDT, and which have invokable effects on the gamestate. At any time, an Orc with fewer than three Glories may pay the cost of a new Glory to add it to their Stronghold. As a Daily Action, an Orc may remove one of their own Glories. The available Glories are as follows:

  • Clan Banner. Cost: 10 Spoils. Instead of spending 4 Spoils to gain 1 Minion, an Orc with a Clan Banner may spend 3 Spoils to gain 1 Minion.
  • Meat Market. Cost: 10 Spoils. An Orc with a Meat Market may, at any time, spend 3 Minions to gain 1 Spoils.
  • Guest House. Cost:10 Spoils. An Orc with a Guest House may, as a Daily Action, donate any amount of their own Spoils to another Orc.
  • Shame Hut. Cost: 10 Spoils. An Orc with a Shame Hut who has no Spoils may, as a Daily Action, gain 1 Minion of any specialty.

Proposal: Orcs Love Few Things

Fails 1-2. — Quirck

Adminned at 23 Feb 2016 13:36:00 UTC

Create a new rule “Hostilities” with the following text:

An Orc may have any number of Rivals. Tracked in the GNDT. Preforming any Hostile Act makes both Orcs involved Rivals with the other. An Orc may not perform any Hostile Act that would cause them to gain a Rival if they have already preformed a Hostile Act that cause them to gain a Rival since Time was last Advanced. All Orcs cease to be rivals with all other Orcs when Time is Advanced.
The Hostile Acts an Orc may preform are as follows:
- An Orc may spend 1 Warrior to reduce another Orc’s Warriors by 1.
- An Orc may spend 1 Warrior to reduce another Orc’s Miners by 2, if that Orc has 0 Warriors.
- An Orc may spend 1 Warrior to reduce another Orc’s Spoils by 2 and increase their own 1, if that Orc has 0 Warriors.

Amend the list in the rule “Advancing Time” to read:

1.Give each Orc 3 Spoils
2. Each Orc gains 3*M Spoils where M is their number of Miners.
3. Remove all Rivals from all Orcs.

If the proposal “Brorcs” passed amend to the end of the first paragraph of “Hostilities” the following text:

If an Orc may not preform any Hostile Acts against an Orc they are Clan Bonded with. If an Orc becomes Rivals with another Orc, any Orc they are Clan Bonded to also becomes Rivals with that Orc.

Proposal: Brorcs

Passes 8-0. — Quirck

Adminned at 23 Feb 2016 13:34:25 UTC

Add a new rule called “Clan Bond” with the following text:

Each Orc may have a reciprocal Clan Bond with exactly one other Orc; this is tracked via text field in the GNDT. For example, if the Orcs Agg and Bdara share a Clan Bond, then Agg’s Clan Bond field would be set to “Bdara” and Bdara’s would be set to “Agg.” If any Clan Bond is dissolved, it is removed from both the Orcs involved immediately. If any Orc becomes idle while sharing a Clan Bond, that Bond is immediately dissolved.

As a collective weekly action, any Orc may call a Clan Gathering by making a Story Post that includes the phrase “Clan Gathering” in the title. Each Orc may make at most one comment on that post, which must follow one of the following bolded formats:

  • “I will go my own way.” This dissolves any existing Clan Bond the Orc shares.
  • “I share my blood with [Orc].” [Orc] must be the name of another active Orc. If two Orcs post comments naming each other in this way, then any existing Clan Bonds they share are dissolved, and they each gain a new Clan Bond with the other.

Create a new rule “Advancing Time”, with the following text:

If at least 48 hours have passed since Time was last Advanced, any Orc may Advance the Time by making a post to that effect and performing the following, in order:
1. Each Orc gains 3*M Spoils where M is their number of Miners.

Amend the rule “Warlords” to read:

Each Orc has a number of minions, tracked in the GNDT.
An Orc may spend 4 spoils to gain 1 minion of any specialty.
There are several specialties of minions stated in the following list:
-Miners
-Warriors

Double the Spoils of all Orcs.

I wanted to set up a few ideas that could be expanded upon. I considered including some kind of combat system but decided that may be too much for 1 post.

Proposal: WAR!

Quorums 3-4. — Quirck

Adminned at 16 Feb 2016 11:22:00 UTC

Create a new rule, “War”, with the following text:

An Orc may be At War with any number of other Orcs. The names of these Orcs are listed on the GNDT under the column “At War”.
An Orc may, as a Daily Action, target one Orc they are At War with and reduce their target’s number of Minions by 1, to a minimum of zero.

This sets up a simple battling mechanic without describing how Orcs may become At War with one another.

New clans may be created by spending 5 spoils. Whenever a clan is created, the Orc who creates it becomes its leader.

The Overlord may create and join a clan for free once; If they do, it becomes the default clan, and all clanless Orcs may choose to join it for free (ignoring any other requirements).

Proposal: Imagination Is Even Funnier The Second Time…

Fails 1-1. — Quirck

Adminned at 08 Feb 2016 19:53:22 UTC

Amend the rule “Trouble” to replace “Each Child has a numerical amount of Trouble, tracked in the GNDT and defaulting to zero.” with:

Each Child and Imaginary Friend has a numerical amount of Trouble, tracked in the GNDT and defaulting to zero.

Enact a new rule “Idle Imaginary Friends”:

Imaginary Friends are either Idle or Unidle, tracked in the GNDT and defaulting to Unidle. For the purposes of voting and quorum, Idle Imaginary Friends are not counted as Children.

If a Proposal contains a provision that targets a specifically named Idle Imaginary Friend, then that Idle Imaginary Friend is considered to be Unidle solely for the purposes of enacting that specific provision.

Any Child may unidle an Imaginary Friend by posting a story post with the title “I believe in X” where X is the name of an existing Imaginary Friend and updating the GNDT.

When a Imaginary Friend is Unidled, their personal gamestate retains the last legally endowed values it had, if they are still valid. Otherwise the Imaginary Friend is given the default value for new Imaginary Friend for those invalid values, if such a value exists.

An Imaginary Friend becomes idle if no one is Best Friends with it and does not cast a vote on two consecutive voting matters it was entitled to vote on. Immediately prior to idling, the Imaginary Friend drops the ball (if it was holding it), loses any team affiliation and gains 3 trouble.

Any Child acting for themselves or on behalf of an Imaginary Friend on their own team may attempt to gain possession of the Ball from the current owner by making a Story Post titled “I make a steal attempt.” (or “X makes a steal attempt.” if on behalf of an Imaginary Friend where X is the name of that Imaginary Friend) and roll DICE5 to determine the outcome. On 1, the attempt is successful and the Child gains 2 Trouble. On 2 the attempt fails, the Child gains 1 Trouble, and the Ball is dropped. On 3, 4, and 5, the attempt fails, and the Child gains 1 Trouble.

Only one steal attempt may be made per change of Ball ownership.

Migrating to SSL

Dreamhost now offers free SSL certificates via Let’s Encrypt, so I’ll be trying to make that work over the coming days. For the moment, I’ve turned it on on the wiki. It doesn’t seem to work yet; visiting the site over HTTPS returns a Dreamhost error page. I don’t know if it takes a few minutes/hours or if something went wrong. Accessing the site over unencrypted HTTP still works, though, so I’ll leave it like this for a while.

If anyone has problems because of this, alert me in the #server channel on Slack.

EDIT: Seems to be working now!
