I achieve victory (X Express owns the Earth, I’m Inebriated, and I’m its only member).

And now, a summary of what happened. The key to the original scam was that a newly created corporation got to act immediately, and then could be disbanded and a new one set up without ill effects (I deliberately introduced this loophole into the ruleset). Darth Cliche and I, working together, set up a series of corporations (I thought we needed six, but it would actually have worked with one, bypassing this scam altogether due to something I realised later), and each created a planet and shipped it to Planet Express. The original idea was to then rejoin Planet Express, sell seven Planets for Cash, buy Earth and ship it to a new corporation (X Express), and obtain victory.

Halfway through this, I noticed a separate scam in Kevan’s recently passed proposal: it didn’t just allow selling Products for Cash, but Stock generally, which includes everything that a Corporation can produce. It turns out that Planet Express had almost enough stock to win as it is, so as the scam had provided it with more than enough, I liquidated it all to buy more.

Finally, I transferred all Planet Express’s stuff to X Express (which Darth Cliche was holding in existence for me); I joined it and Darth left, leaving me as the only member, then I dropped my AC by two (due to the weekly action provided by my newly passes proposal) to become Inebriated, thus meeting the victory condition.

Kevan, I have to ask: was the scam in your proposal intentional? It would have let many players, including you, win with just one accomplice even if you didn’t notice the scam in my proposal.

And for, even though IIRC I don’t have to do that explicitly nowadays.

(note: This doesn’t quite succeed as written because selling stock is a business action. It would be trivial, however, for ais523 and Darth to have set up a number of shill Delivery Corporations, delivered one item to each, sold them, and then moved them to the destination corporation. Rather than force the spamming necessary for this, we should just let them win)

coppro has just mentioned on IRC that this method of doing the scam fails, because it required multiple business actions from Planet Express to produce all the Cash. The scam works anyway, though (just ship the products to a newly-created corporation and back in order to turn them into Cash), it would just require spamming another 7 posts, but I can’t fix it in Hiatus.

The bigger issue here is that as soon as the hiatus ends, suddenly everyone will be able to run the scam, which would make it a first-to-log-on-wins situation, and nobody really wants that. What’s the best solution here? Ideally, I’d just give me the win anyway, as it only needs a trivial correction (whether via DoV or CFJ, I’m not sure).

Just realised that I don’t think I’ve seen an arrow this dynasty. So here I go: arrow for. It would be a waste to not see an icon at all all dynasty… (What does “Illegal” look like?)

I’m very uncomfortable with the message of “if your scam failed in a way that revealed its workings to everyone, but you could totally get it right if you had another go - don’t worry, we’ll give you the win anyway”. This doesn’t seem like a good precedent for future DoVs to be able to invoke.

for as a general “if anyone should win this week, Ais should”, though.

(Not bothering to update the Corporation wiki page for fly-by-night companies also seems a little suspect, when “For each Corporation, the [wiki] page must detail the name of the Corporation, the Earthlings who comprise it, [...]”.)

@Kevan: then it’s the wiki page that broke the rules, not me. (The rules also say that members of the corporation are responsible for keeping the wiki page up to date, which we did by changing the state of the game to match the wiki, in most cases.) There’s also the issue of when an action actually happens if you have to update multiple places; a literal interpretation of the rules would imply that the action wasn’t completed until you’d updated the wiki page, and thus you could take multiple actions as long as they overlapped because only the action being complete caused a lockout. The precedent in question is an unfortunate side-effect of the whole hiatus-for-DoV thing; the alternative is that you suddenly have a huge free-for-all the instant the DoV is adminned, most likely won by the admin who admins it (in periods of low activity) or everyone waiting at the first moment it could be active (in periods of high activity).
