Proposal: Random Resurfacing

Timed out 2 votes to 4 over Hiatus. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 06 Mar 2017 11:07:00 UTC

Upon enacting this proposal, the Doctor shall perform a Z quantity of DICEX rolls where where X={Villagers with the Symptom Death} and Z=floor(X/2). Rolls shall be performed in sequence until unique X values occur.

Each villager exhibiting the Death symptom (DEADVIL) shall be inherently included in the dice rolls, per above.

DEADVILs’ indices for the sake of the above shall be enumerated based on their default position in the GNDT.

Upon a DEADVIL’s index being rolled by the Doctor, the respective DEADVIL shall have the Symptom of Death removed as a symptom they exhibit.

This is an attempt to resurface the long-dead and add some volatility into the game.

Dinner

Eating some wolfsbane, doctor attend. Nourishing, but bland.

Proposal: Biting action

Reached quorum 3-1-2. (Doctor’s DEF becomes FOR as 3>1, other remaining DEF then becomes FOR.) Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 01 Mar 2017 19:09:27 UTC

To the section "Lycanthropy", add
As a daily action, a villager displaying the symptom of Wolf Form may declare that they are biting another villager who is Near to them. This must be done either in a blog post or in a private message to both the bitten villager and the doctor. That bitten villager then immediately gains the disease Lycanthropy. If they did not yet have that disease before being bitten, the bitten villager must not take any game actions from the moment they gain Lycanthropy until the end of that day.

Turning wolf is fun but knocks you out for a day.

Proposal: Change With The Moon And Sun

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 01 Mar 2017 18:54:21 UTC

Under the “Symptoms” section from “Diseases” change “Visible. If a Villager would gain this Symptom while at Home, or on a day other than Friday, they instead do not gain this Symptom.” to

Visible. A Villager can only gain this symptom if the time is between the hours of 20:00 and 5:00 UTC. A Villager who has the symptoms Back Hair and Headache and have the disease Lycanthropy automatically gains this symptom if the time is between the hours of 20:00 and 5:00 UTC. If the time is between 5:01 to 19:59 UTC, a Villager with this symptom automatically loses Wolf Form.

I hope it’s not too restricting or complicated. Maybe selecting certain days of the week would be better.

Proposal: Burdock of Proof

Proposal: The Feather of Dust

Timed out / quorumed 5 votes to 1. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 01 Mar 2017 10:24:22 UTC

After the first paragraph of “Endgames”, add:-

A Villager’s Micromori value is equal to their number of Memento Mori multiplied by a million, minus 100,000 for each Disease they have, minus 50,000 for each Symptom they are exhibiting, plus 10,000 for each Remedy they were carrying at the start of the most recent Doctor’s Rounds.

In “Endgames”, replace “the number of all memento mori is disclosed and the villager with the most memento mori has achieved victory” with:-

the Villager with the highest Micromori value is Remembered. (Any ties for this are broken randomly.)

Then replace “the Villager with the most Memento Mori is Remembered. (Any ties for this are broken according to fewest Symptoms.) ” with:-

the Villager with the highest Micromori value is Remembered. (Any ties for this are broken randomly.)

Reproposing The Feather of Truth without the error, and correcting the SI prefix.

Proposal: Butterknife, Not Bloody Knife!

Timed out 4 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 01 Mar 2017 10:13:12 UTC

If this proposal passes, replace all instances of TIME with the date and the time of midnight. Example “Sunday, 26th, February 2017 00:00:00 UTC”

Add to the “Remedies” bullet list Silver Butterknife and to the section

Silver Bark and Silver Butterknife are Silver; other Remedies are not. During the Doctor’s Rounds if a Villager has the Symptom of Wolf Form and at least one Silver Remedy in their inventory that Villager has has the follow atomic actions preformed by the Doctor:
1. A 10% chance that Lycanthropy and Wolf Form are removed from the Villager.
2. If the Villager had Wolf Form and it was removed in the last action, a separate 20% chance that the Villager gains the symptom Death.
These actions are also preformed if a Villager with Lycanthropy becomes the Taker of a Silver Remedy. A Silver Butterknife is not removed from a Villager’s inventory when used but it can only be used once every 12 hours starting from TIME. Silver Butterknife cannot cause nor cure diseases in any way other than the atomic actions listed in this paragraph.

Change The Market text to

A Villager at the Market may swap two units of the same Remedy in their inventory (other than Well Water) for a single unit of any Remedy other than Silver Butterknife, at any time. A Villager at the Market may also swap out three Silver Bark for one Silver Butterknife at any time.

In the “Spectral Actions” section change “As a daily action, a Dead Villager who is not exhibiting Eternal Torment may move a Remedy from one Villager’s inventory to another Villager’s inventory.” to

As a daily action, a Dead Villager who is not exhibiting Eternal Torment may move a Remedy from one Villager’s inventory to another Villager’s inventory. A Dead Villager may not move a Silver Remedy to a Villager’s inventory if the Villager whose inventory they are moving the Remedy into has the symptom Wolf Form and that latter Villager is also not on The Road.

Running the numbers each time the Doctor does the atomic actions, if the villager had Wolf Form they have a 4% chance of dying. If that’s done 20 times they have an 80% chance of dying.

Proposal: Dandelions

Reached quorum 7 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 27 Feb 2017 16:57:44 UTC

In the “Locations” section add to the Road

As a daily action a Villager on the Road may add a Dandelion to their inventory.

In the “Remedies” list add Dandelion, replace “Mandrake, Nightshade, Red Cap, Silver Bark and Wolfsbane are Plants;” with

Mandrake, Nightshade, Red Cap, Silver Bark, Dandelion and Wolfsbane are Plants;

I looked back and saw the Weeds proposal, I thought it is good idea but they should just be a separate plant.

Proposal: Like Tears in Rain

Add a new rule, “Other Rituals”:

A Villager at the church carrying Remedies of one each of Salt, Well Water, and Nightshade may remove all of them to perform a Saltwater Ritual by making a blog post indicating this. When a Villager performs a Saltwater Ritual, they gain the symptom Death, and all Villagers without the symptom Death are cured of the Black Death.

An old account of a previous Black Death outbreak and subsequent cure is discovered in the disheveled Zahndorf library by one of the few surviving literate villagers. Over two centuries ago, they chose a citizen to perform the Saltwater Ritual by drawing straws, but now we live in more civilized times.

Eating Nightshade.

Symptom Correction

Flagging this for everyone’s attention: during the most recent Doctor’s Rounds, I mistakenly give Quincunx the Cough symptom in the GNDT. Quincunx does not in fact have a Cough. Apologies for the mis-step.

Proposal: Lynching

Timed out 2 votes to 4. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 27 Feb 2017 16:54:49 UTC

The villager named Viv will gain the symptom “dead”

There is a were wolf spreading plauge and causing death! none of us are safe until he’s dead! And I’m tired of him getting us all wet and force-feeding us mushrooms!

Joking aside, we seriously should either declare him the winner, kill him off, or add more game mechanisms. He can’t be killed by disease, and I’m fairly certain he has far more mori momento than anyone else, if either well water OR red cap spread the plague (and I’m reasonably confident one of them does). He’s going to win without serious changes.

Apport

The wolf trots to the market with red cap and water, and applies the combination to Derrick. Then sneezes sadly.

Proposal: The Feather of Truth

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 26 Feb 2017 19:35:00 UTC

After the first paragraph of “Endgames”, add:-

A Villager’s Micromori value is equal to their number of Memento Mori multiplied by 100, minus 10 for each Disease they have, minus 5 for each Symptom they are exhibiting, plus 1 for each Remedy they were carrying at the start of the most recent Doctor’s Rounds.

In “Endgames”, after “the number of all memento mori is disclosed and the villager with the most memento mori has achieved victory” (if that text is there), add:-

the Villager with the highest Micromori value is Remembered. (Any ties for this are broken randomly.)

Then replace “the Villager with the most Memento Mori is Remembered. (Any ties for this are broken according to fewest Symptoms.) ” with:-

Proposal: The Sadness of Wolves

Reached quorum 5 votes to 1. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 26 Feb 2017 18:14:35 UTC

The wolf curls up in the forest. It’s been feeling like somehow it’s doing more harm than good in this world, and it’s been dreaming of a life of blazing fireplaces, companionship and food that isn’t weeds.

Add to section Endgames:

If more than one villager are not dead and none of the living villagers have the Black Death, the doctor must announce this game state in a blog post. If all the villagers that are not dead agree to declare the village cured in the comments of that post, the number of all memento mori is disclosed and the villager with the most memento mori has achieved victory.

To have seen the most of this trouble seems a valid win condition.

Derrick will be moved back to the forest, nothing having happened since the first illegal action having happened

I misunderstood where days stopped and started. Could I be back in the forest? movement is precious in this game, and my move to the market place was soley a result of an illegal forage attempt.

Call for Judgment: Mistaken eating of redcap!

Reached a quorum of against votes, 0-5. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 22 Feb 2017 22:58:53 UTC

Change Derrick’s inventory to “red cap”

Change the action of combining and consuming red cap and silver bark to just eating silver bark.

I did not intend to eat the redcap with the silver bark.

I realized I didn’t want to part way through an atomic action. I had to complete, and wasn’t sure if I was obligated to complete the action or if I could undo everything part way through. Sorry. Please have mercy.

Breakfast at the Market Place

Derrick Spent all night frantically looking for silver bark, sure he would not make it to the next morning. Surely that wolf could not have had his best interests at heart, and he must have the disease again. All he finds is mandrake. But that’s a lot of mandrake! He can trade!

Rushing to the market place, he unloads his cargo, and has the precious silver bark! Ghosts have been active recently, and he doesn’t want the red cap stolen… He combines his ingredients and eats them!

crap, I think didn’t want to eat the red cap. I wanted to drop it instead of the nightshade. dang it!—- no way to take that back, is there? (I made this post after declaring in the GNDT that I ate both)

In “Locations”, replace “A Villager who is not on the Road or who has at least one visible symptom, or both” with “A Villager who is not on the Road”.

If the text was not changed by the proposal “Weeds”, in “The Doctor’s Rounds”, replace “For every non-Dead Villager who has neither Eaten nor been on the Road during the previous two Intervals” with “For every non-Dead Villager who has not Eaten during the previous two Intervals”.

The decision by officials in charge of immigration to only let people in if they openly display symptoms was puzzling, but nobody’s even out on the road anymore. People from neighboring towns and the farmers outside the village know better than to show up these days, so let’s re-lock the gates.

Welcome to the forest

Proposal: Weeds

Times out 3 votes to 4. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 22 Feb 2017 11:26:46 UTC

In “Locations”, add to the Road:-

As a daily action, a Villager on the Road may add a Weed to their inventory.

Then replace the word “Weed” in that rule with the name of a random Plant.

In “The Doctor’s Rounds”, replace “has neither Eaten nor been on the Road during the previous two Intervals” with:-

has not Eaten during the previous two Intervals

Add a new subrule to “Locations”, called “Roadside Plants”:-

If the Remedy named in the Road action rule Cures a Disease, the Doctor may replace that Remedy’s name in that action rule with the name of a secretly random Plant, chosen from those which do not Cure any Diseases. The Doctor may repeal this rule if the Remedy named in the Road action rule does not Cure a Disease, or if all Plants Cure Diseases.

Making the Road a source of free plant food (one which doesn’t cure anything, if such plants exist), to make my processing of the Rounds a little easier (I currently have to check back through the GNDT to see if anyone’s stepped out of town).

The Doctor’s Rounds

Insert into the section “The Doctor’s Rounds” as fourth item in the bulleted list:

For every Villager whose current location is “Home”, giving that villager the disease “The Pox”.

Corpses all over town… something was bound to happen. I think it’s bedbugs.

The Doctor’s Rounds

Somewhere not too far outside the village’s gates, the howl of a mountain wolf echoes across the valley.

A Long Spoon

The new rule “The Bet” can be read in a couple of ways. Since triggering it under the superficially intended reading would reveal secret information, I thought I’d check which interpretation was intended by its proposer, and (perhaps more importantly) what an informal consensus thinks.

From the rules, we’ve got:

  • Cuddlebeam gains Eternal Torment “if any remedy has the potential to Cure the Black Death”.
  • “Each Remedy has the potential to Cure one Disease”
  • “When a Remedy is Tested, there is a 50% chance that the Remedy now Cures a random Disease”

If a Remedy exists which has been Tested and was found not to Cure a random Disease, does it still “have the potential” to Cure the Black Death? (In plain English every Remedy has the potential to do anything, because we’re playing Nomic, but even regarding it as a strict keyword and reframing it as something more like “each remedy has an empty cure slot”, do such test-failed Remedies still “have the potential”?)

Call for Judgment: I’m not Dead anymore.

Quorum against, failed 1-5 by Kevan.

Adminned at 17 Feb 2017 16:39:50 UTC

I’m not actually Dead, nor do I have any sympthoms, please remove them all.

In Diseases, Death, it says:

A Villager who is exhibiting the symptom of Death is considered to be Dead.

A Dead Villager who is not the Doctor may not take actions defined by dynastic rules, except those in the rule “Spectral Actions”.

Exhibiting is an action, because “to exhibit” is a verb which involves exposing or offering to view (http://www.dictionary.com/browse/exhibit). For example, replace the verb “to exhibit” with “to dance” to make it more intuitive. I can’t choose to stop doing it due to the removal of the “mays” back then, but I’m still compelled to do it . For example, a person who compulsively coughs, has to cough all the time. They have no choice in coughing or not, and coughing is an action, and in the game’s flavor context, coughing is the act of exhibition of a symptom called “Cough”. However, due to that I’m Dead, I can no longer exhibit because its an action (of the dynastic kind), therefore, I can no longer be considered to be Dead.

So, oddly, I can’t be considered to be dead if I become dead.

As I’m not Dead, I can take dynastic actions. I also don’t employ my right to have diseases (either because I can’t and/or I simply choose not too employ it at any applicable moment, whichever works for the purpose of losing all symptoms/diseases). Such a right is exposed in “Diseases”:

Each Villager has zero or more Diseases, tracked privately by the Doctor.

As I no longer have Diseases, I would no longer have any Symptoms, because Symptoms belong to the Diseases I possess, as exposed in Diseases:

Each Disease has a number of Symptoms, listed in order from earliest to latest.

-> Diseases HAVE symptoms. Diseases are effectively a kind of inventory or “bag” that contain my Symptoms, because I, as a villager can’t HAVE Symptoms. I can exhibit them though. And the ones that I exhibit are the ones that my Diseases have.
and, in Doctor’s Rounds:

[...] that Villager gains the earliest Symptom of that Disease which they do not already exhibit

I gain Symptoms, which would need to be stored in my inventory of Diseases, because Villagers can’t HAVE Symptoms, but they can HAVE Diseases (and they merely exhibit the Symptoms found in the Diseases that they have as exposed earlier).

You could argue that since Symptoms are in my “bag” of Diseases, that I “have” them too, but that’s never explicitly stated, and I can have someone else’s stuff in my “bag”, because its merely a container. I have or “possess” the container (Disease), but not what the container contains (Symptoms). But my container has/possesses its contents, which are things that I could exhibit.

Henceforth, I wish to have recognized that I no longer have any diseases nor Symptoms (such as Death).

Getting “revived” by the Bet would be cool too tbh lol.

Also, sorry for editting this a lot, I add things as they pop into my head. I’d appreciate discussion in “notes” before anything as well to fully expose and develop my point (and to give you a final version without this compulsive adjusting).

In “Spectral Actions”, change “a Dead Villager may move a Remedy” to “a Dead Villager who is not exhibiting Eternal Torment may move a Remedy”.

In “The Doctor’s Rounds”, change “and which is not Death” to “and which is not Death or Eternal Torment”.

Add a new rule, “The Bet”:

At any time, the doctor may take the following actions in sequence as an atomic action, if any remedy has the potential to Cure the Black Death:
* Add the symptom Eternal Torment to the Villager named Cuddlebeam.
* Repeal this rule.

At any time, the doctor may take the following actions in sequence as an atomic action, if no remedy has the potential to Cure the Black Death:
* Remove all Diseases from the Villager named Cuddlebeam.
* Remove all Symptoms from the Villager named Cuddlebeam.
* Set the Villager named Cuddlebeam’s location to the Road.
* Repeal this rule.

(As inspired by Cuddlebeam’s recent comments on “The Cured Endgame”)

By random chance, both Pokes and Cuddlebeam got assigned to pushing rocks up hills duty for the first several decades of their Purgatory. Often, conversation would come back to God’s beneficence or lack thereof. What kind of God would give us these terrible Headaches and Mouth Pains? Why would They give us so many plentiful remedies in the forest but have it so that we couldn’t be cured by them. Were They just playing some sort of game with us? “In fact”, Cuddlebeam said, “I bet there was no cure for the Black Death the whole time!”

With a gentle *poof*, the Devil appeared behind us. “A bet, you say?”

Proposal: This game is so confusing

Times out 2 votes to 3. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 13 Feb 2017 20:08:56 UTC

In the rule The Doctor’s Rounds, move the following rules text

Inform any Villager displaying the symptom of Confusion of one random property pertaining to one remedy. This remedy must be chosen at random by the Doctor from the remedies currently carried in the location of that villager

to become the first item in the bulleted list in this rule.

I’m determined that confusion should do something. This fixes the issue where confusion is removed as a symptom before it’s useful effect occurs.

Proposal: That’s the Spirit

Passes 5-0. — Quirck

Adminned at 13 Feb 2017 10:11:03 UTC

Replace the strings of letters “stand” and “Stand” (even where they appear inside other words) with “Spirit”, throughout the dynastic ruleset.

Is anybody else finding it hard to remember whether a “Stand” is the ghost or the person bonded with it?

Timed out/quorumed 6 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Move all the text from within the section “Church” into the section “Spectral actions”, appending it there.

Proposal: Guardian Stance

Timed out 1 vote to 4. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 12 Feb 2017 23:02:02 UTC

Add to Spectral Actions:

Remedies are the basic “fuel” that Stands employ to empower their spectral bodies to pull off supernatural feats.

A Stand may declare that it’s in a Guardian Stance by making a blog post announcing this and removing a Remedy from its inventory. During this time, if its Near its Standmaster, the Standmaster cannot be targeted by other Villagers (except the Doctor) through dynastic mechanics, nor get infected by contagious diseases, unless the Standmaster explicitly allows them to do so in a blog post. A Stand loses its Guardian Stance if its no longer Near its Standmaster.

A Stand may Break a Near Stand’s Guardian Stance (and thus, remove it) by sacrificing one of their own Remedies for this purpose.

A Stand defensive power and counterplay to it.

Add to Locations:

Through a simple ritual, a Standmaster may call forth their guardian spirit. A Standmaster may Summon their Stand to their current location (thus, moving them to that location) by removing a Remedy from their Inventory.

Simple pay => get result mechanic. Plus, dead people can’t move on their own.

Add to the rule “Symptoms”:

A villager who becomes part of a stand-standmaster relationship immediately gains the symptom “confusion”.

I think it’s time for confusion to find a way into the game.

Proposal: An Apple a Day

Reached quorum 9 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 11 Feb 2017 08:54:51 UTC

Repeal the rule “Hunger”.

To “The Doctor’s Rounds”, add a new step before the final one:-

  • If the current date is after the 13th of February 2017: For every non-Dead Villager who has neither Eaten nor been on the Road during the previous two Intervals, giving that Villager the symptom “Death”.

Add to the end of that rule:-

The period between two consecutive Doctor’s Rounds is known as an Interval.

To “Remedies”, add:-

Mandrake, Nightshade, Red Cap, Silver Bark and Wolfsbane are Plants; other Remedies are not. When a Villager is the Taker of a Plant, or of a combination Remedy containing a Plant, they are considered to have Eaten at that time.

Simplifying starvation, making it part of the Doctor’s Rounds so that the death doesn’t happen invisibly, and changing 120 hours to “the time between three consecutive Rounds” to make it clear whether people are eating properly, and to keep everything on the same game clock (otherwise there are heavy timing pressures to always eat at the last possible second, ideally just after everyone else has).

Proposal: The Dead Abides

Fails 2 votes to 5. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 11 Feb 2017 08:53:40 UTC

In the sub-rule Death change:

A Dead Villager who is not the Doctor may not take actions defined by dynastic rules, except those in the rule “Spectral Actions”

to

A Dead Villager who is not the Doctor may not take actions defined by dynastic rules, except those in the rule “Spectral Actions” or those actions that explicitly allow the dead to perform.

New rules in Locations > Church allow the Dead to do things but Diseases > Death forbid it if not included in the Spectral Actions rule. I am hoping this prevents needing an asterisk for each Dead rule elsewhere in the Ruleset.

Proposal: Hunger sets in

Times out / quorums 7 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 11 Feb 2017 08:53:12 UTC

Add a new rule titled “Hunger”:

Each Villager has a time that they last ate, tracked in the GNDT and referred to as “Last Meal”. If the current time is 120 hours after a villager’s Last Meal, they gain the symptom Death.

When a villager is the Taker of Mandrake, Nightshade, Red Cap, Silver Bark or Wolfsbane, or a combination remedy containing one of these ingredients, their Last Meal becomes the current time.

A villager whose location is the Road may update their Last Meal to the current time at any time.

In “Remedies”, change

by making a blog post announcing this.

to

by making a blog post (which may not be edited) announcing this.

Set each villager’s Last Meal in the GNDT to Feb. 8, 12:00 UTC.

The baker and butcher are both dead. Farmers outside of the town are stopped at the gates, although those that haven’t heard the news show up every once in a while, offering raw grain and the occasional chicken to others locked out. Supplies within the gates are running low, and the remaining survivors have no choice but to turn to scavenging in the Forest.

Hey! somebody stole my Leeches!

How familiar are you with Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure?

Because I’d like to take more inspirations from it into Stand mechanics proposals, but I don’t want to make references that might make some people feel excluded from not knowing what this is all about.

I’m super familiar with Jojo btw lol, Part 4 (Diamond is Unbreakable) is my favorite.

Proposal: Stand Down

In “Locations”, replace “if they both privately communicate so to the doctor” with:-

if they both privately communicate so to the Doctor, and if the not-dead Villager was in the Church at the time of their communication

For each Stand-Standmaster relationship where the Standmaster was not in the Church at the time they communicated such an intention to the Doctor, that relationship becomes broken.

Fixing the church’s “sacred, mysterious ritual” so that the invoker actually has to be at the church to do it.

Proposal: Light at the End of the Tunnel

Fewer than a quorum not voting against. Failed 1-5 by Kevan.

Adminned at 10 Feb 2017 09:21:16 UTC

To the section “endgames”, add:

If all villagers are either dead or do not have the disease “black death”, the villager with the most momento mori is remembered, be they dead or alive.

Its possible the town can make it out of all of this. I would consider that to be a victory condition.

Proposal: Stand Powers

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 10 Feb 2017 09:20:26 UTC

In Spectral Actions, add:

A Stand without a Stand Power may obtain one by privately communicating such a feat to the Doctor and their Stand Master, along their choices of Range, Effect and a unique Name (one that another Stand Power doesn’t have yet) for their Stand Power.

A Stand Power’s Name is up to 20 characters long and contained in brackets, for example “[Sheer Heart Attack]” or “[The World]”.

Range and Effect left blank. Stands should be able to do cool shit.

Proposal: Wisdom of the Past

Timed out 1 vote to 4. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 10 Feb 2017 09:19:09 UTC

To the end of the paragraph starting with “A Villager may remove a Remedy…” in the rule section Remedies, add the following:

A villager may “credit” a dead villager when using the remedy, by declaring so in their post. The dead villager so referenced is considered credited”. Each time a dead villager is credited they gain one momento mori.

All momento mori possessed by players when this is enacted are multiplied by three.

The line

“Whenever a Villager catches the Black Death, all Villagers Near to them who already had the Black Death gain one Memento Mori”

is replaced with:

Whenever a Villager catches the Black Death, all Villagers Near to them who already had the Black Death gain three Memento Mori

The dead need a way to keep scoring. And doing so should help the living. If they can time the deaths just right…

Proposal: Now I See

Reached quorum 5 votes to 1. Enacted by Kevan.

If the proposal “Villager-Dead Villager bond” hasn’t passed yet, change:

A not dead villager and a dead villager may become a Stand Master (also referred to as “Standmaster”) and a Stand respectively to each other if they both privately communicate so to the doctor

to

A not dead villager at the Church and a dead villager may become a Stand Master (also referred to as “Standmaster”) and a Stand respectively to each other if they both privately communicate so to the doctor.

Forgot to put that the Standmaster need to be at the Church to do this.

Quickening the Game

I think right now we are standing around waiting for people to die, and people have a half-life of four doctor’s rounds. I think we should add rules and mechanisms to hasten the game-play.

Ideas include:
more doctor’s rounds—though this has the possibility to be a burden to the good doctor.
The possibility for a second symptom if you pick up a first.
Spectral Actions that gain either hasten/delay death or add more Memento Mori. Yes, this creates a double game in which specters try to gain points and hope the last two villagers die at once, while the living villagers

Any thoughts? thought I’d state this explicitly rather than just trying to pass a bunch of rules with that intent.

Proposal: Villager-Dead Villager bond

Reached quorum 6 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 08 Feb 2017 10:49:00 UTC

To “Church” in “Locations”, add:

Zahndorf’s church has a sacred, mysterious ritual which villagers may perform, which allows to create a bond between themselves and the dead, creating a special guardian spirit relationship. A not dead villager and a dead villager may become a Stand Master (also referred to as “Standmaster”) and a Stand respectively to each other if they both privately communicate so to the doctor. The doctor should reply to such requests with a confirmation that the standmaster-stand bond has been created (thus, the live villager becomes the “standmaster” and the dead villager the “stand”). When the stand master dies (acquires death), or the stand becomes alive again (loses death), the stand-standmaster relationship is broken.

Any Villager who is already in a standmaster-stand bond may not opt to be in another one.

Blank gameplay mechanic which allows dead players to pact with live players. Hopefully this paves a way for dead players to become more useful in the gamestate, while still being subservient and “below” live players.

to

A Dead Villager who is not the Doctor may not take actions defined by dynastic rules, except this rule and those in the rule “Spectral Actions”.

The sub-rule Death is a dynastic rule. If a dead villager cannot take actions from dynastic rules, he cannot follow the Death rule (where abiding is an action). This fix should hopefully remedy the paradox though a CfJ might be more appropriate.

A single person should not control more than one non-Idle Villager within BlogNomic, and should announce publicly if they control both a non-Idle Villager and any Idle Villagers.

Fair Play isn’t really covering the situation of older players returning from the distant blogspot era and creating new accounts. (This seems about to happen again, from a recent Slack conversation.) I don’t think we can allow them to just “unidle” the account, as we can’t be sure that the human was really that player.

Proposal: Guardsmen’s Procedures

Passes 4-3. — Quirck

Adminned at 07 Feb 2017 09:36:10 UTC

In locations, change

A Villager who is not on the Road may change their own Location once per day.

to

A Villager who is not on the Road or who has at least one visible symptom, or both, may change their own location once per day.

At the end of the Rule Symptoms, and at the end of the Subrule Death, add:

A Villager who unidles immediately gains the symptom “dead”. This does not give the villager any diseases, and occurs even if they have the symptom “Wolf Form”

This a proposed handicap for people entering the game. There is one way to acquire a visible symptom without outside help. To declare to have “seen a rat”, which is to be voluntarily infected with the plague. By the time you are let in, you are displaying the second to last symptom of the plague, and on equal or worse footing with any live villager. Now, if you can convince a poltergeist to give you what you need to acquire the pox or Lycanthropy*, that’s a different matter, but that’s an interesting game case.

The unidle kill clause closes an obvious hole. If anyone wishes to give it retroactive teeth, they are welcome to come up with their own proposal that does so.

*I don’t know if Lycanthropy can be gained in this game. I don’t know if all of the remedies have been tested (I think they have been due to the infinite remedies stunt by cuddlebeam), and how many were tested AFTER Lycanthropy was an option for them to grant. If there is a way to get it, contracting it and getting to wolf form before you die is way to win.

A Wanderer on the Road

I will be joining the game .Yes, It appears I start out on the outside of the town. That’s a problem. On the other hand, I’m completely disease free.

I have some questions about the play style of this community:

It appears you do not use win by paradox. Is this observation correct?

Traditionally, do winning conditions stay mostly the same towards the end of the game? For example, just how good of a chance is there of a mechanism for returning to life getting voted in? Or does everyone pretty much accept that they are dead and let the game end with the initial winner, observing a fairly nice looking game that could be played without the rules proposals? Is an unstated goal of blognomic to leave an interesting game system behind each dynasty?

Just trying to get a feel for the community. This is my first time actually playing nomic.

Remove “A Villager exhibiting Death may not take actions defined by dynastic rules, except those in the rules “Spectral Actions” and “The Doctor’s Rounds”.” from “Symptoms”, and remove the first sentence of “Spectral Actions”.

Add a subrule to “Symptoms” called “Death”:-

A Villager who is exhibiting the symptom of Death is considered to be Dead.

A Dead Villager who is not the Doctor may not take actions defined by dynastic rules, except those in the rule “Spectral Actions”.

If the Doctor is Dead, he may not take actions defined in the rule “Locations”, nor take any action which would alter his own inventory of Remedies.

Add a subrule to “The Doctor’s Rounds”, titled “Weekend Surgery”:-

If it is the 4th or 5th of February and no Rounds were performed on the 3rd of February, the Doctor may perform his Rounds as if it were a Friday. The Doctor may repeal this rule at any time.

The Doctor’s responses to Misery and Cough (and their immediate effects) shall be retroactively considered to have been legal actions, taken at the time the comments were made.

If the Doctor does not have the Symptom of Death, he gains it.

Matt makes a good point, the Doctor still needs to be able to perform some actions while dead. Pushing this through as a CfJ so that we can fix it before processing the next Rounds, which we can delay until the weekend if needed.

Out of the Freeze Chamber
