Proposal: Turning this dynasty around

Adminned at 02 Jan 2011 21:57:58 UTC

Add a new Rule to the Ruleset.  Call it “Rotation” and give it the following text:

A Brick is Rotatable if it has a Dimensions attribute and is not a sloping brick.

At any time, a Mini Figure may replace a Rotatable [z]x[y] Brick in their workbench with a [y]x[z] Brick that has otherwise identical attributes.

Passes 8-0 with quorum FOR. -Bucky

Unidling myself

Looks like the dynasty I didn’t want to join ended while I wasn’t looking.  Quorum remains at 7.

As a bonus, I will no longer confuse my GNDT column with Blacky’s

What’s happened to us?

I just enacted three proposals. They had been pending for four days straight.

Normally, when this sort of thing happens, we blame it on the summer, which tends to slow down the game. But it’s New Year’s Eve.

I remember a time when proposals reached quorum within the twelve hours required. I remember a time when great players like arthexis and Yoda and Oze and the Ukee Brothers played among us. I remember a time when dynasties were a month long. I remember a time when BlogNomic was great.

What happened to that time?

If BlogNomic is dying, then I refuse to let it. I will admin every proposal, idle every due member, and welcome every player until our glorious nomic is alive again.

Long live BlogNomic!

On a side note, SethOcean, Stormshade, Blacky, JoeFish, and Hyronious all go idle - the first after having been due for a week. Quorum drops to 7.

Proposal: Bigger is better

Cannot be enacted w/o CoV, final vote 1-6 -Darth

Adminned at 01 Jan 2011 09:39:03 UTC

Add a new Rule, entitled “Victory”

A minifig who successfully completes a construct with a value of 1500 or more outside of a request achieves victory.

Proposal: Victory Conditions

Cannot be enacted w/o CoV, final vote 1-6 -Darth

Adminned at 01 Jan 2011 09:38:33 UTC

Add a Rule, entitled Victory:

The Mini Figure who has created the most constructions for the Brick Master’s Project Requests has achieved Victory.

If you don’t think this is a good way to win, then propose an alternative… not much has happened in a while, it’s time to have some kind of goal to work towards, isn’t it?

Proposal: Post holiday cleaning

Timed out 7-0 after 4 days -Darth

Adminned at 31 Dec 2010 12:48:08 UTC

If the Rule “Making a List” does not exist, this Proposal does nothing.

Repeal rule 2.6.

Has been completed and expired, no longer need it to clog up ruleset.

Proposal: Fixing the laziness

Timed out 8-0, afte 4 days -Darth

Adminned at 31 Dec 2010 12:45:56 UTC

In the rule Closed Requests, at the end of the second paragraph add the following

If the Brick Master believes a response to a closed request does not properly satisfy the requirements of the request, he may make a comment listening the offending mini-figures name and a AGAINST mark. He must then subtract the offending standard reward from the mini-figures fund. (A mini-figure’s funds are allowed to go negative by this process) and return the construction to the mini-figures workbench. The Brick master may do this at any time a request is active as well as within 48 hours of the request ceasing to be active. A mini figure who has their submission rejected in this manner may attempt to submit another construction for the request (provided it is still active).

Proposal: Self-identification

Timed out, 8-0, after 4 days -Darth

Adminned at 31 Dec 2010 12:45:31 UTC

Add a new sub-rule to the rule entitled Bricks, called Minifigs:

Each Mini Figure has a minifig, which is a construction made of three non-standard bricks. It is recorded in the Workbench section of the Toybox page, as per any other kind of construction.

A minifig must consist of one of each of three kinds of non-standard bricks: a head brick, a torso brick and a legs brick. A new Mini Figure starts with a smiling head brick, and a torso brick and legs brick in their choice of colour (from the list of permitted values for standard bricks).

A minifig always has a value of zero.

Head Brick
Head bricks are non-standard bricks. Head bricks are assorted - for the purposes of assortment, the expression of a head brick is considered to be analogous to its colour.

A head brick must have the following quality:

* Expression. In certain defined circumstances a head brick may have a non-standard expression, but the default values for head brick expressions are: Smiling, Frowning, Pirate.

Head bricks have a value of 1.

Torso and Leg Bricks
Torso bricks and leg bricks are both non-standard bricks. Both are assorted.

Torso and leg bricks must have the following quality:

* Design.  In certain defined circumstances a torso or leg brick can carry a custom design, but by default these bricks may be one of the colours available to standard bricks (i.e. Black, Blue, Brown, Green, Grey, Orange, Purple, Red, White or Yellow).

Torso bricks and leg bricks each have a value of 1.

I want to link customisability of body bits to some form of competitive mechanic.

Closed Request: Transport

I seek a variety of modes of transport. Can you provide this for me? Standard reward is 50, bonus reward is 75.

Project Request: Urban Development

I want to create a space station in lego. Can you guys put something together that would fit with this project? Bonus reward for this is 150 Funds.

A Pause for Thought

With the passage of Winterval, the game is now in hiatus until Monday. You can still vote on proposals, raise calls for judgement and update the GNDT, but all other game actions are on hold until the hiatus ends.

Merry Christmas for those who celebrate it; otherwise, I hope that you enjoy a quiet couple of days.

Leaving over christmas. Pity, I really wanted to play this round…

What happened to the Christmas tree post?

I don’t see it anywhere. Who won? Subrincinator increased eir funds by 50, but I don’t even recall what the bonus reward for that one was, and so donno if Subrincinator was trying to give himself the bonus reward for the blue one too early or if he legit one the other one and someone the post disappeared.

Proposal: Accidental self kills?

Timed out and failed, 7-1. Josh

In the rule 1.4 Voting replace

If a Mini Figure Votes against their own Proposal, this renders the Proposal self-killed and that Vote may not be changed.

If a Mini Figure Votes against their own Proposal, this renders the Proposal self-killed and that Vote may be changed provided that the proposal is still pending and no new comments to the proposal were made after the author’s AGAINST vote.

Proposal: Bulk Discounts

Failed, 8-1. Josh

Adminned at 27 Dec 2010 02:12:39 UTC

In rule 2.2 Currency replace

Some bricks are marked as assorted. If a mini figure chooses to buy an assorted brick, he may choose to only pay 80% (rounded up) of the value. He may not specify a color if he does this, instead after purchasing the brick he must role a DICEN where N is the number of colors available for that brick. The color of brick will be the result of the dice rule used as an index to the list of available colors, sorted alphabetically. (So if the colors are Red, Blue and Green a DICE3 is rolled and 2 would make the result Green).

Add a new core rule to the ruleset, entitled Seasonal Downtime:

Blognomic goes into hiatus every year on December 24th, and remains in hiatus until December 27th. During this time no game actions may be taken except those described in the rules entitled “Voting,” “Gamestate Tracking” and “Call for Judgement”.

If this proposal enacts after December 24th but before December 27th, the game is put into hiatus.

BlogNomic does not formally observe any seasonal or religious holiday but can accommodate predictable downswings in activity.

Proposal: More non-standard bricks

Quorumed, 9-0 -Darth

Adminned at 23 Dec 2010 19:04:39 UTC

Add the following as a sub-rule to the rule called Bricks, entitled Sloping Bricks:

A sloping brick is a non-standard brick. Sloping bricks are assorted.

A sloping brick must have the following qualities:

* A colour, which must be one of Black, Blue, Green, Grey, Orange, Purple, Red, White or Yellow
* Dimensions, which are recorded in the form [z]x[y], where [z] and [y] are the brick’s dimensions along its length and width. The dimensions of a sloping brick incorporate the slope, as described below.
* A slope. A sloping brick may be sloping on one or two of its sides, and is referred to respectively as a 1-slope or a 2-slope brick. This is notated as “S[z]” and/or “S[y]”, where [z] or [y] are replaced by the respective dimension as per the bullet point above.

The Value of a 1-slope brick is the product of its dimensions plus the size of its slope, i.e. either S[z] or S[y], as appropriate. The Value of a 2-slope is its the product of its dimensions plus twice the size of its slopes, or ((S[z]+S[y])*2). All sloping bricks have a height of 1.

Add the following as a sub-rule to the rule called Bricks, entitled Base Bricks:

A base brick is a non-standard brick. A base brick is one-fifth of the heigh of a standard brick (i.e. it has a height of 1/5).

A base brick must have the following qualities:

* A colour, which must be one of Green, Grey, or White
* Dimensions, which are recorded in the form [z]x[y], where [z] and [y] are the brick’s dimensions along its length and width. The [z] and [y] dimensions of a base brick must always be even and must always be at least 10.

The Value of a base brick is the product of its dimensions divided by the sum of its dimensions, or ([z]x[y])/([z]+[y]).

Open Request: Something Borrowed

I’d like something that is at least half-blue, has some elements of red, and has a value of at least 50. Be creative!

Proposal: Pack Up Your Troubles

Adminned at 23 Dec 2010 03:31:31 UTC

Add a new rule to the ruleset, entitled Kit:

A construction in a Mini Figure’s workbench may have an additional effect. As a weekly action, a Mini Figure may make a Prototype post, which must have a title in the format “PROTOTYPE: x” (where x is the name of the construction), and which must have body text detailing one of the constructions on their workbench and the effect that it should have. A Prototype post is a votable matter and is resolved in the same manner as a proposal, although it does not count as a proposal for the purposes of rule 1.3.

If a Prototype passes, the effect is added to the construction in the Toybox page. The prototype becomes a kit, and the description, effect and value of the new kit are added as sub-rules to this rule. The value of a kit is set at 75% of the base value (i.e. without modifiers) of the construction upon which it is based, and can be bought by a Mini Figure at any time.

Add the following to the end of the rule entitled Construction:

A Mini Figure may, at any time, deconstruct any construction that they own by removing it from their workbench. They may then add the bricks that composed that construction to their Bucket.

Timed out and enacted, 8-0. Josh

Proposal: He’s Gonna Find Out

Reaches quorum and enacts, 11-0. I think. Josh

Adminned at 21 Dec 2010 01:07:42 UTC

This special 25th-December gift-giving proposal is based on the Prisoner’s Dilemma.  It gives all Mini Figures the opportunity to be nice to each other and receive bonus Funds.  But each Mini Figure also has the opportunity to hurt another by being naughty.  So if everybody’s nice, we’ll all get a lovely holiday gift.  If everybody’s naughty, we’ll all lose a few Funds.  But if some are naughty and others are nice… well, we all know where nice guys finish.

Add a Rule titled Making a List:

Before the 25th of December 2010, the Brick Master may place all active Mini Figures into Sets of two or three such that each Mini Figure belongs to exactly one Set.  Within these parameters, the Brick Master may place Mini Figures into Sets according to any method that the Brick Master chooses.

Before the 25th of December 2010, the Brick Master may creat a Story Post stating which Mini Figures belong to which Set.

Before the 26th of December 2010, each Mini Figure may be either Naughty or Nice.  The Mini Figure may be Nice by sending the Brick Master a private message with the subject “Nice.”  A Mini Figure who does not send such a message is Naughty.  Each Mini Figure may also be Naughty by sending the Brick Master a private message with the subject “Naughty.”  No single Mini Figure may be both Naughty and Nice.  If a Mini Figure attempts to be both Naughty and Nice, that Mini Figure is Naughty but is not Nice.

After the 25th of December 2010, but before the 28th of December 2010, the Brick Master may create a Story Post stating whether each Mini Figure is Naughty or Nice.  After this Story Post has been posted, the following three conditions each apply exactly one time:

1.  If all Mini Figures within a Set are Nice, then each Mini Figure within that Set may gain up to 25 Funds.

2.  If all Mini Figures within a Set are Naughty, then each Mini Figure within that set shall lose 10 Funds.

3.  If at least one Mini Figure within a Set is Naughty, and at least one Mini Figure within that Set is Nice, then all Naughty Mini Figures within that Set may gain up to 10 Funds, and all Nice Mini Figures within that Set shall lose 50 Funds.

If this rule would cause any Mini Figure’s Funds to decrease below 11, then instead this rule shall cause that Mini Figure’s Funds to decreas to exactly 11.

Removing DODT because the American military did, too.  Also, just because you say you’ll be nice doesn’t mean you’re not lying.

If this proposal passes, but Josh doesn’t want the extra work, the rule allows him to ignore it.

Proposal: Citizen Brick

Reached quorum and enacted, 12-1. Josh

Adminned at 21 Dec 2010 01:05:23 UTC

Set the Brick Master’s Funds to 0.

Add the following to the ruleset as a new rule, entitled Citizen Brick:

The Brick Master is not considered to be a Mini Figure for any dynastic rule.

If there is a rule entitled Templates, repeal it. Add the following to the ruleset as a new rule, entitled Requests:

Provided there are fewer than three active requests, the Brick Master may make a request by creating a story post with the title “x Request: y” where “x” is the type of request (detailed below) and “y” is the name of the request (as chosen by the brick master). The post must also contain text which describes a construction, and must describe either a standard reward, a bonus reward, or both, both of which must be positive amount of funds.

For the next 48 hours, the request post remains active. Each Mini Figure may once remove a construction from their workbench which fits the requirements of the request and make a comment about it on the story post. The comment must, as with the workbench, detail a name, a value and the composition in bricks for each construction. It is strongly encouraged to also include a link to a pictorial illustration, or at least a textual description of how the bricks fit together. A mini figure who does this is said to have completed the request. If the request carries a standard reward, the mini figure may then increase their funds by the standard reward for the request.

After 48 hours, the request ceases to be active. If the request carried a bonus reward, the Brick Master may then once within the next 48 hours make a comment on the story post mentioning one mini figure who completed the request, whom the brick master believes best fulfilled the request. That mini figure’s funds are then to be increased by the bonus reward for the request.

The number of completed requests is tracked in the GNDT, under the Brick Master’s Funds column.

Add the following as a new subrule to the rule entitled Requests, called Open Requests:

An open request must detail at least three criteria for the composition of the requested construction, but not its shape or structure. Examples of criteria may be, but are not limited to, the following: number of blocks used, colour mix of bricks in the construction, value of the construction, proportion of non-standard bricks used. An open construction may carry either or both kinds of reward, but bonus rewards should generally be given for the construction that meets the criteria while also most closely resembling the real-world object it is named after.

Add the following as a new subrule to the rule entitled Requests, called Closed Requests:

A closed request must detail at least one structural or shape-related characteristic for the requested construction. This may be as narrow as requesting a specific shape (“build me a house”) or as wide as describing vague physical characteristics (“the construction must have four sides”). A closed request may not make requirements based on composition of bricks, although these issues can be factored in when adjudicating bonus rewards. An open construction may carry either or both kinds of reward.

Add the following as a new subrule to the rule entitled Requests, called Project Requests:

A project request must detail the nature of a wide-ranging project that the Brick Master is trying to achieve. Mini Figures may respond to this request with any construction of their choice, provided that it in some way adds or contributes to the project. This kind of request may only carry a bonus reward. Projects and the constructions that have been incorporated into them may be tracked on the Brick Master’s Projects page in the wiki.

Recasting the Template Requests mechanic slightly to allow for a more defined range of requests.

Proposal: Santa’s Workshop

Reaches quorum and passes, 13-0. Josh

Adminned at 21 Dec 2010 01:04:06 UTC

If the proposal titled “Hard Hats” doesn’t pass, this proposal does nothing.

Add a new rule called “Templates”. Give it the following text

Provided there are fewer than three active template requests, the Brick Master may make a template request by creating a story post with the title “Template Request: XXXXXXX” where “XXXXXXX” is the name of the template (as chosen by the brick master), and text which describes a constructions. (For example: “Exactly seven standard bricks, each of which is a different color”), as well as a standard reward and bonus reward amount, both of which are a positive amount of funds.

For the next 48 hours, the template request post remains active. Each Mini Figure may once remove a construction from their workbench which fits the requirements of the template request and make a comment about it on the story post. The comment must, as with the workbench, detail a name, a value and the composition in bricks for each construction. It is strongly encouraged to also include a link to a pictorial illustration, or at least a textual description of how the bricks fit together. The mini figure may then increase their funds by the standard reward for the template request. A mini figure who does this is said to have completed the template request.

After 48 hours, the template request ceases to be active. The Brick Master may then once within the next 48 hours make a comment on the story post mentioning one mini figure who completed the template request, whom the brick master believes best fulfilled the template request. That mini figure’s funds are then to be increased by the bonus reward for the template request.

*encourages IMP votes instead of FOR votes if you’re in favor because this puts more work on Josh, which he may or may not actually want*

White Elephant’s Dilemma

I’d like to propose a special gift-exchange rule for the 25th of December.  But I need help figuring out the parameters.  This is also an opportunity, if you don’t like the idea in general, to let me know before I go to the trouble of proposing it.  The idea is a version of the Prisoner’s Dilemma, and the gist is as follows.

Add a rule titled Gift Exchange:

Before the 24th of December 2010, the Brick Master may group all active Mini Figures into Sets of two or three such that each Mini Figure belongs to exactly one Set.  Within these parameters, the Brick Master may place Mini Figures into Sets according to any method that the Brick Master chooses.

On the 24th of December 2010, the Brick Master may create a story post stating which Mini Figures belong to which Set.

Before the 26th of December 2010, each Mini Figure may choose to either Give or Withhold a gift for other members of that Mini Figure’s Set.  The Mini Figure may Give by sending the Brick Master a private message with the subject “Give.”  The Mini Figure may Withhold by sending the Brick Master a private message with the subject “Withhold.”  Failure to send such a message shall be interpreted as Withholding.  If one Mini Figure attempts both to Give and Withhold, this shall be interpreted as Withholding.

After the 25th of December 2010, but before the 28th of December 2010, the Brick Master may create a Story Post stating whether each Mini Figure has Given or Withheld.  After this Story Post has been posted, the following three conditions apply:

- If all Mini Figures within a Set have Given, then each Mini Figure within that Set may gain up to 25 Value.

- If all Mini Figures within a Set have Withheld, then each Mini Figure within that Set shall lose 10 Value.

- If at least one Mini Figure within a Set has Given, and at least one Mini Figure within that Set has Withheld, then all Mini Figures within that Set who have Withheld may gain up to 10 Value, and all Mini Figures within that Set who have Given shall lose 50 Value.

Any Mini Figure who communicates their intentions to Give or Withhold to any other Mini Figure before the 26th of December 2010 shall lose 60 Value.

If this rule would cause any Mini Figure’s Value to decrease below 11, then instead it shall cause that Mini Figure’s Value to decrease to exactly 11.

An interesting way to mark the holiday, and to test the generosity/ level of trust of fellow Mini Figures.  The idea is that we’re all paired up, but it allows for Sets of three in case of odd numbers. (or if Josh just wants to do it that way)

My questions are:
- have I got all the “mays” and “shalls” right?
- are the Value rewards and penalties appropriate to make the decision a true dilemma?
- is the ‘don’t ask/ don’t tell’ condition workable?
- is the ‘don’t ask/ don’t tell’ condition necessary?  After all, your partner in the Set might decide to screw you over by lying.
- is the 11-minimum-Value condition necessary, or will it enable a loophole?
- if a Set member idles out so the number of Mini Figures in a Set drops to one, I think this rule would still work—it’d just be lucky for the one Mini Figure remaining in the Set.  Have I got that right?
- if a Mini Figure joins the game on the 24th or later the game doesn’t break, just that Mini Figure doesn’t get to play it, have I got that right?

It gives Josh extra work, but even if this becomes a proposal and passes, he can opt to ignore it.

In the rule Hard Hats, after

Funds can be used to buy bricks. A mini figure may buy a brick by reducing their funds by the value of the brick that they wish to purchase. There is a wiki page entitled Toybox. The Toybox page is split into two section for each Mini Figure - The Bucket and The Workbench. The bricks owned by each Mini Figure are tracked in the Bucket section of the Toybox page.

Some bricks are marked as assorted. If a mini figure chooses to buy an assorted brick, he may choose to only pay 80% (rounded up) of the value. He may not specify a color if he does this, instead after purchasing the brick he must role a DICEN where N is the number of colors available for that brick. Add a new rule to the ruleset, entitled Currency:

Each Mini Figure has a quantity of Funds, which is tracked in the GNDT. New Mini Figures start with 100 Funds.

Add a new rule to the ruleset, entitled Construction:

Mini Figures may combine three or more of their bricks to form a Construction. Bricks that have been used to form a construction are removed from the Bucket section of the Toybox page and the construction is added to the Workbench section of the same page. The Workbench section must detail a name, a value and the composition in bricks for each construction. The base value of a construction is strictly equal to the sum of the values of the bricks used in its composition. As a weekly action, a Mini Figure may sell one of their Constructions by removing it from their section of the Toybox page and adding its value to their Funds.

The value of a construction may be affected by any of a number of modifiers. These are detailed a subrule to this rule.

Add a subrule to the rule called Construction, entitled Value modifiers:

The following value modifiers apply to all constructions:

* Big
Criteria: The base value of the construction is 500 or more.
Effect: Value x2

* Little
Criteria: The base value of the construction is 10 or less.
Effect: Value x0.75

* Uniform
Criteria: All of the bricks involved in the construction are the same colour.
Effect: Value +10

Illustrations for constructions from the Lego Digital Designer are encouraged.

More twiddling around with modifiers needed, plus the framework for building recognisable shapes (for which additional modifiers should be achievable.)

Bricks… IN SPACE

No idea where Josh is taking this and he already used up his proposals, so here are my thoughts, still need to iron out brick placing:

There exists a wikipage called The Workbench. It is split into two sub categories, The Creation and The Toybox. The Toybox consists of a list of bricks, with any necessary quantifiers specified (such as the color and size) as well as a quantity for each brick in the list. If the quantity is ever zero, the Brickmaster may remove it from the list. If the sum of the quantities of each brick in the list is ever less than five times the number of active Mini Figures, the Brickmaster may increase the quantity of bricks in the list or add new bricks (with a non-negative quantity) to the list provided the sum of the quantities remains less than five times the number of active Mini Figures. The Creation consists of a list of bricks and their location in space. Their location is specified by a pair of triples. (x1, y1, z1) and (x2, y2, z2). x2 - x1 must be equal to the width of the brick, y2 - y1 must be equal to the length of the brick, and z2 - z1 must be equal to the height of the brick. Furthermore, z1 < z2 and z1 cannot be negative and no two bricks can intersect. (This is where I'm having trouble. Need a clear definition of what this means).
But the idea would be to let players place bricks as daily/weekly actions and add some cool rules like “a yellow brick cannot be placed so that it touches a blue brick” or “a red brick must have z1 be zero”

LEGOS? I LOVE LEGOS.

Can I be unidled for this?

Proposal: Additional values

Adminned at 19 Dec 2010 14:33:22 UTC

If a rule entitled Bricks exists, add the following to the end of the rule:

All standard bricks are considered to have a height of 1.

Non-standard bricks are listed as subrules to this rule.

Add the following as a subrule, entitled Flat Bricks:

A flat brick is one quarter of the height of a standard brick (i.e. it has a height of 0.25). Otherwise a flat brick has the same qualities and is subject to the same restrictions as a normal brick.

Add the following as a subrule, entitled Hinge Bricks:

A hinge brick has a height of 0.25.

A hinge brick must have the following qualities:

* Colour - a hinge brick may be any of the colours available to standard bricks
* A size, which is the number of bumps on top of the brick
* Dimensions. The dimensions of a hinge brick are 2x[y], where [y] is the length of the brick. The width of a hinge brick is always 2. [y] multiplied by 2 must always be equal to the hinge brick’s size.

The hinge on a hinge brick always runs along its length between the two rows of its width. The value of a hinge brick is always its size multiplied by 2.

I don’t know what a hinge brick is going to do, yet?

Gimme some bricks!

I request to be unidled. =)

Adminned at 19 Dec 2010 01:34:30 UTC

Add a new rule to the ruleset, entitled Bricks:

A standard brick has the following properties:

* A colour, which must be one of Black, Blue, Green, Grey, Orange, Purple, Red, White or Yellow
* A size, which is the bumps on the top of the brick
* Dimensions, which are recorded in the form [z]x[y], where [z] and [y] are the brick’s dimensions along its length and width. [z] multiplied by [y] must always equal the same number as the brick’s size.

The Value of a standard brick is equal to its size.

I would like to rejoin the game, seems like the dynasty is about to change over.

Do I just put this here and let the admins work their magic, or is there more to it than that?

Dynasty theme discussion thread

Assuming that the DoV passes (and it’s only been a few hours so this may be presumptuous, but I’d want to keep things moving fairly slickly if it did), I have a couple of ideas for dynasties but nothing I’m devotedly wedded to. Anyone have anything they’d particularly like to see?

My two main ideas right now are: a post-revolutionary theme, in which BlogNomic is a country that has recently overthrown the shackles of colonial oppression only to fall under the rule of a thuggish and despotic strongman (i.e. me) - the players are intellectuals, artists and politicians trying to overthrow me and bring about a democratic transition (or an autocracy in their own name…)

OR

A Rube Goldberg device-like dynasty based around lego bricks. I mostly like this because I like the idea of having the BlogNomic header in lego bricks.

But I’m very much open to suggestions.

Proposal: Consistency is not a bad thing

Illegal: Proposals cannot be made during haitus (i.e. while there is a pending DoV on the table). Josh

Change the text of Rule 1.6 Calls for Judgement to

If two or more Divinities actively disagree as to the interpretation of the Core Rules of the Ruleset, or if a Divinity feels that an aspect of the game needs urgent attention, then any Divinity may raise a Call for Judgment (abbreviated CfJ) by posting an entry in the “Call for Judgment” category. The post shall go on to describe the issue, and measures that shall be taken to resolve it.

All Divinities may cast Votes on that CfJ to indicate agreement or disagreement with the position taken in that CfJ. Unfailed CfJs continue until they reach a Quorum of FOR Votes, a Quorum of AGAINST Votes, or if there is no hiatus going on, until four days have passed since they were posted, and if there is a hiatus going on until two days have passed since they were posted. After this time, if more than half the cast Votes are FOR Votes, the CfJ may be enacted by any Admin by updating or correcting the Gamestate and Core Rules in the Ruleset as specified. Otherwise, the CfJ fails. A Failed CfJ has no further effect.

Any CfJ that has no effect on the Core Rules of the Ruleset or gamestate may be automatically failed by any admin.

Remove “Ruleset” and insert “Core Rules of the Ruleset” to prevent CfJs from changing ongoing game rules.

Also, immediately fail all DoVs, and add a rule entitled “Victory”

Two scams at work here, either or both of which may be pushing my luck, but here we go.

First, the CfJ. The rules on passing CfJs state that:

All Divinities may cast Votes on that CfJ to indicate agreement or disagreement with the position taken in that CfJ. Unfailed CfJs continue until they reach a Quorum of FOR Votes, a Quorum of AGAINST Votes, or if there is no hiatus going on, until four days have passed, and if there is a hiatus going on until two days have passed. After this time, if more than half the cast Votes are FOR Votes, the CfJ may be enacted by any Admin by updating or correcting the Gamestate and Ruleset as specified. Otherwise, the CfJ fails. A Failed CfJ has no further effect.

The vulnerability here is that the rule doesn’t specify what the four days are relative to; the posting of the CfJ, the start of the dynasty, my cat dying, anything. I’m interpreting it as four days having passed ever, and if this DoV passes (and even if it doesn’t) then that should probably be fixed fairly urgently.

The second scam is clearer. I created a child named “The first Divinity to Meddle with this mortal achieves Victory”, then meddled with it. As the child is gamestate, and its name is also gamestate, that means that its name is interpretable as a condition as well as a generic signifier. I successfully fulfilled its conditions and thus achieved my win.

This does rely on an acceptance of my interpretation of Purplebeard’s attempted birth block, but again, that should be pretty clear: if Svetlana was not gamestate then the CfJ against her was illegal and she should have just been removed. The CfJ existed at all because her status was debatable, and in that regard she should be considered to remain gamestate until legally removable.

Story Post: Meddling with The first Divinity to Meddle with this mortal achieves Victory

I meddle with the cumbersomely-named The first Divinity to Meddle with this mortal achieves Victory.

His vulnerabilities are to Material and Domestic

Lawful Abortion

I blocked today’s birth in an attempt to speed up this Age. I will quickly explain why I think this action is legal, as some may disagree:

1. Since Planned Parenthood is still pending, Svetlana Tarpova still appears on the Mortals page, even though she was (arguably) added illegally. I would argue that in the real gamestate, she does not exist. If we accept this premise, there are fewer than half-quorum non-dead Mortals, and I can roll a die to create a new child as per ‘Circle of Life’.

2. After I have rolled the die, I “may then create a new Child mortal” (emphasis mine). I choose not to. Since I still performed the first part, no one else is permitted to create a new Child today.

If anyone wants to CfJ me on either of these points, be my guest.

Proposal: The Joker (now with 100% less scam)

Vetoed and timed out - coppro

Adminned at 18 Dec 2010 12:58:31 UTC

Reword “The End of the Age of Mortals [II]” to the following:

Divinities may have one or more Aspects, which denote their achievements in the previous Age. Aspects are tracked in the Lingering Effects column of the GNDT.

Immediately after the Age is advanced for the first time, Divinities receive all the Aspects for which they meet the eligibility criteria detailed after the Aspect’s name. For these purposes (and only for these purposes), the gamestate as it was just before the Age was advanced is taken into account. Any Aspect whose eligibility calls for a Divinity to have performed an action or possess a certain status more than any other Divinity is available to all parties who share the highest place in the event of a tie.

* Trickster - participated in more Meddling posts (by making the post and/or an Uplifting or Tormenting Comment) than any other Divinity
* Demiurge - ended the Age of Unreason with a ++ in the Material plane
* Smith - ended the Age of Unreason with a ++ in the Domestic plane
* Muse - ended the Age of Unreason with a ++ in the Ephemeral plane
* Judge - ended the Age of Unreason with an N in all planes
* Manipulator - ended the Age of Unreason with a higher Prominence than any other Divinity
* Love - caused two Mortals to be each other’s Spouse as the result of a meddling
* Betrayer - caused at least one Mortal to become Dead as the result of a meddling
* Hope - made more legal Uplifting Comments than any other Divinity
* Despair - made more legal Tormenting Comments than any other Divinity
* Sloth - neither increased nor spent Prominence, nor initiated or legally commented upon a Meddling post, during the Age of Unreason

The reason that I left the Manipulator aspect is that the winner of the first Age should still be acknowledged in the third Age.

Call for Judgment: Planned Parenthood

Passed. See above DoV for details. Josh

Adminned at 17 Dec 2010 01:52:55 UTC

Here, a child was created as per 2.4.2. However, there has been some debate as to whether it was legal.

The action was performed under the assumption that there were fewer existing mortals than half-quorum. At present, quorum is 9; the current 4 mortals is thus strictly less than 9/2.

However, 3.2.1 gives us “Unless otherwise specified, game variables defined to hold numeric values can hold only non-negative integers” - there is no contrary specification here. This is a variable stat that affects the game, so it can be seen to be a game variable; there may be some debate over whether it “holds” a value, rather than just popping into an out of existence when needed. The same rule also gives us “If a rule implies that the result of a division should be an integer (for instance, by attempting to store that result in, or add it to, a gamestate variable that can only hold integers), the result of the division is instead the result rounded towards 0.” The rule only implies that the result of the division should be an integer if we accept that the first clause applies, but if it does then half-quorum is considered to be 4 rather than 9/2.

So: if this CfJ passes, remove Svetlana Tarpova from the list of mortals, and change the word “hold” in the first above-specified clause from rule 3.2.1 to “hold or return”.

Had to take a week off to travel, and feeling a bit out of the game now—have fun with it.  Quorum drops to 8.

Let “half of Quorum” be any real number which is exactly one-half of Quorum.

Proposal: Let Kids Be Kids

Times out and passes at 7-1. -Purplebeard

Adminned at 17 Dec 2010 00:43:46 UTC

In Rule 2.4.2 Circle of Life, replace the entire text with the following:

Every Monday, if there exist any Adult Mortals, and if no Divinity has done so that day, any Divinity may choose a random Adult Mortal.  That Mortal becomes Dead.  Every Wednesday, if there exist any Child Mortals, and if no Divinity has done so that day, any Divinity may choose a random Child Mortal.  That Mortal becomes an Adult.

Every Friday, if there exist less than half of Quorum non-Dead mortals, and if no Divinity has done so that day, any Divinity may randomly choose an integer between 1 and 10, inclusive. They may then create a new Child mortal with any unused name [choice of the Divinity who creates it] and vulnerability according to this table:

  * 1-2: Ephemeral
  * 3-4: Material
  * 5-6: Domestic
  * 7: Ephemeral and Material
  * 8: Ephemeral and Domestic
  * 9: Material and Domestic
  * 10: Create two mortals instead, by the same process.

Re-ordering birth, ageing and death to allow Children to remain Children for more than two days, and increasing the likelihood that the Gatekeeper will have an heir should they die.  If we pass this rule we may need to adjust the ways that an Age can end, or create other methods of death (infant mortality, please!).  Perhaps we could allow a Divinity to spend a significant about of Prominence (XXX, say) to create or kill any Mortal of their choice at any time.

Story Post: Unto us a Child is born

Her name is Svetlana Tarpova.

Status: Child
Spouse: None
Legacy: None
Vulnerability: Material

Half of Quorum is 4.5, and we had 4 non-Dead Mortals.  Under the current ruleset, Svetlana will become an Adult tomorrow if any Divinity chooses to raise her quickly up.  Then once again, there will be no Child on Friday to assume the role of Gatekeeper should Ed meet his doom.  Of course, all Divinities could elect to leave her be…

Will an admin add this to the wiki?

If, and the end of a meddling, the Meddler Uplifted or Tormented the Plaything, the Meddler may increase their Prominence by up to III within the next 24 hours if more Divinities Uplifted the Plaything than Tormented him or vice versa, otherwise any Divinity may decrease the Meddler’s Prominence by up to II.

In the rule 2.4.3 Playthings, change the following:

As a weekly action, if no other Divinity has done so within the past 12 hours, a Divinity may meddle with a mortal by spending V Prominence to create a Story Post

to:

As a weekly action, if no other Divinity has done so within the past 12 hours, a Divinity may meddle with a mortal by creating a Story Post

The penalty for creating a Story Post is discouraging Divinities from Meddling with Mortals, and that’s just boring.  I wouldn’t mind giving a reward for meddling posts (and making it retroactive), but will start with this proposal.

Story Post: Meddling with Johnny Generic

Johnny ages rapidly as he is blown sky-high by the gas explosion lit by the Divinity Consus.  He finally lands on firm ground, an older man and wiser.  But as he walks towards home, eager to greet Ma and Pa again, he notices a dog-specific well and peers inside.  There, at the bottom of the well, Johnny sees the worm-eaten remains of his faithful collie Sassie.  Nibbles the squirrel sits on a branch above Johnny and eyes him with a very cheeky look.  A tear drips down Johnny Generic’s face as he considers how he may best honor the legacy and sacrifice of Sassie.  He lifts his eyes heavenward and prays for guidance.

Johnny is vulnerable to the Material and Ephemeral spheres.

The following are BlogNomic’s rules of fair play. If any of these rules are found to have been broken, or if a Divinity’s behaviour or actions are otherwise deemed unacceptable (socially or otherwise), a proposal or CfJ may be made to reprimand or punish the perpetrator or, in cases of extreme or repeated violations, remove them from the game and bar them from rejoining.

We need to make clear that we generally won’t immediately ban a player if they break a Fair Play rule once, even if they are committing ‘bannable offenses’, as some players liked to point out a while back when others accidentally violated them. I also added an umbrella term for behaviour that may not be explicitly listed but can still be grounds for punishment or banning, like flaming, (excessive) swearing or generally being a fucking prick.

(Yes, that was intentional. No, you’re not smart for noticing it.)

If, at the end of a meddling, the number of Divinities that Tormented the Plaything is greater than or equal to twice the number of Divinities that Uplifted the Plaything, that Plaything’s Nemesis may set the status of that Plaything to Dead.

Also, while we’re here, in the same rule change “a Divinity may meddle with a mortal” to “a Divinity may meddle with a non-dead mortal”.

Proposal: All Hail The North West Wind

Passes at 10-0. -Purplebeard

Adminned at 10 Dec 2010 00:59:17 UTC

If the Proposal titled “I Knew Him, Horatio.” failed, this Proposal does nothing.

Remove from “Ages” the following: “The Divinity who had the highest value for Prominence at the end of an Age is considered to be the Optimus Divinity for the next Age.” and “Whenever two or more Divinities are tied for the highest value in prominence, the current Optimus Divinity will remain the Optimus Divinity for the next Age.

Add to “The Prophecy of the Gatekeeper ”:

The Divinity who had the highest value for Prominence at the end of this Age will be the Optimus Divinity for the next Age. In case of a tie, the Divinity who’s Old Name appears more often as a Legacy on the Mortals page will be the Optimus Divinity. If this is also tied, the current Optimus Divinity will remain the Optimus Divinity for the next Age.

Add a subrule to “Temples”, “Worshipers”:

Each Divinity has a number of Worshipers. This number is tracked in the GNDT and defaults to 50. The number of Worshipers each Divinity has may not exceed a specific Limit, which depends on the status of that Divinity’s Temple. If, at any time, a Divinity’s number of Worshipers would be higher than their Limit, it is set to their Limit instead.

The Limits for the different Temple statuses are: 100 for Not Built, 200 for Delubrum Parvum, 400 for Templum, 1000 for Aedis Magna and 5,000 for Sanctum Sanctorum.

Add a subrule to “Ages”, “The Prophecy of the Apocalypse [II]”

The wisewomen say that the gods’ continuous growth in power will culminate into an Apocalypse which will usher out the age of mortals and set the stage for the battle that will see one god ascend to ultimate power. When the total number of Worshipers among all Divinities is 8,000 or more, the Age advances. Each Divinity’s Divine Power (which may be non-integer) is calculated as W/100+P, where W is that Divinity’s number of Worshipers and P is their Prominence (converted to a regular number). The Divinity with the highest Divine Power at the end of this Age will be the Optimus Divinity for the next Age. In case of a tie, the Divinity with the highest Prominence will be the Optimus Divinity for the next Age. If this is also tied, the current Optimus Divinity will remain the Optimus Divinity for the next Age.

Proposal: I Knew Him, Horatio.

Add to rule “Constancy”:

The “Mortals” wiki page and the “Temple” GNDT statistic are considered Gamestate even if the rules that regulate their alteration currently do not apply.

Change the rule “Temples [II]” to the following:

Each Divinity may have a temple, the status of which is tracked in the GNDT, and defaults to “Not Built”. A temple’s status may be any one of the following:

* Sanctum Sanctorum
* Aedis Magna
* Templum
* Delubrum Parvum
* Not Built

The current Temple Rule doesn’t really work if it only applies for one Age.

This also renames the possible states of temples to flavourful names for increasingly large holy places, and makes it so that the gameplay in the third Age can take the events of the first two into account.

In Rule “2.4.1 Mortals”, replace the second sentence:

Each such listing comprises a mortal’s name, their Status (“Child”, “Adult” or “Dead”), their Legacy (either blank, or a Nomen from the Pantheon), their Spouse (either blank, or the name of another Mortal), and the single sphere or two spheres of Influence in which they can be affected.

with:

Each such listing comprises a mortal’s name, their Status (“Child”, “Adult” or “Dead”), their Legacy (either blank, or a Nomen from the Pantheon), their Spouse (either blank, or the name of another Mortal), their Bliss, their Torment (both Bliss and Torment start blank, and may become a number of I or greater according to Rule 2.4.3),  and the single sphere or two spheres of Influence in which they can be affected.

To the Rule entitled “2.4 Influence ,” add the following Sub-Rule “2.4.3 Attitude”:

After any Meddling Post has ended, up to one Divinity may tally up the number of times the mortal has been Tormented and Uplifted in that Meddling Post.  If the number of Torments exceeds the number of Upliftings, then the Divinity may add I to the Mortal’s “Torment” on the wiki page entitled “Mortals.”  If the number of Upliftings exceeds the number of Torments, then the Divinity may add I to the Mortal’s “Bliss” on the wiki page entitled “Mortals.”  A Mortal’s “Torment” or “Bliss” may be updated no more than one time per Meddling Post.

Then in the afterlife, a Dead Mortal whose Torment score is higher than Bliss might become some sort of demon, or a Dead Mortal whose Bliss is higher than Torment might become some sort of demi-god.  The Patron of a Blissful soul might get a bonus, and the Nemesis of a Tormented soul likewise.  Or something.

Proposal: Sex doesn’t matter, love does

Times out and fails, 2-5-4.—Brendan

Adminned at 08 Dec 2010 14:39:04 UTC

Add this text at the end of the first paragraph in the subrule Mortals:

When a new Mortal is added to the Mortals wiki page, its Legacy and its Spouse are blank. Its name must be chosen and given by the Divinity who adds it. Of the possible combinations of one or two spheres of Influence (Ephemeral; Material; Domestic; Ephemeral and Material; Ephemeral and Domestic; Material and Domestic) to which Mortals may be vulnerable, the Divinity who adds the new Mortal must choose a combination among those that are the less frequent on the Mortal wiki page and set that Mortal’s vulnerability to that combination.

Suppress the second paragraph of the subrule Mortals and replace it with :

Let Z be a number equal to one half of Quorum, rounded down; if at any time the Mortals page lists fewer than Z non-dead mortals, the Imperatrix may create new, Adult mortals and list them on that page until there are Z non-dead mortals.

Add this text at the end of the subrule Mortals:

As a weekly action, the Imperatrix may create Y new, Child mortals and list them on the Mortals wiki page, where Y is the number of Couples. Each pair of Alive Mortals, in which each of these two Mortal’s Spouse is the another Mortal, is a Couple.

Proposal: Demographic dividend

Fails 1-11. —Brendan

Adminned at 07 Dec 2010 10:27:07 UTC

The enacting admin must roll DICE6 in the GNDT. They must then add the resulting number of Mortals to the game by adding them to the Mortals wiki page. Each Mortal may be given a one-word name freely chosen by the enacting admin from the lists on this page.

For each Mortal thus created, the admin must roll 4 DICE3. If the result of the first roll is a 1 that Mortal is a child; otherwise that Mortal is an adult. The other three DICE rolls correspond to the spheres of influence in the order of: Ephemeral, Material, Domestic; the Mortal gains a vulnerability to each sphere in which they rolled a 1. If any Mortal would have a vulnerability in no sphere then the enacting Admin should chose a sphere at random and give them a vulnerability in it.

In the Rule “2.4.2 Playthings,” replace the following:

  * If the comment includes the word “Torment,” the comment is a Tormenting Comment and the Divinity Torments the Plaything. If the Divinity has a Negative Influence in one of the spheres affecting the Plaything, they may increase their Prominence by up to V.
  * If the comment includes the word “Uplift,” the comment is an Uplifting Comment and the Divinity Uplifts the Plaything. If the Divinity has a Positive Influence in one of the spheres affecting the Plaything, they may increase their Prominence by up to X.

with:

  * If the comment includes the word “Torment” and the Divinity has a Negative Influence in one of the spheres affecting the Plaything, they Torment the Plaything and may increase their Prominence by up to V.
  * If the comment includes the word “Uplift” and the Divinity has a Positive Influence in one of the spheres affecting the Plaything, they Uplift the Plaything and may increase their Prominence by up to X.

The current ruleset rewards Divinities when they “Torment” or “Uplift” outside of their spheres of influence.  Because these comments do not affect Prominence, it is easier for a Divinity to become a Patron or Nemesis by Meddling ineffectively.  This proposal fixes that bug.

Story Post: Meddling with Johnny Generic

Johnny Generic is a very ordinary child, and is playing in a very ordinary pasture when he suddenly trips and falls down into the bottom of a very ordinary abandoned well.  His faithful border collie, Sassie, gazes down into the well and barks plaintively.  “Sassie!”  shouts Johnny.  “Run home!  Get help!”  Sassie bounds off, and Johnny prays to whatever gods may be that his good dog will fetch Ma and Pa to come help him.

Johnny Generic is vulnerable to the Ephemeral and Material spheres.

Proposal: Celebration

Self-Killed. -Purplebeard

Adminned at 07 Dec 2010 07:12:47 UTC

Add a new subrule to the rule Influence , entitled Celebration:

A Divinity may, as a weekly action, hold a Celebration in his or her honor. A Divinity may not Manifest and hold a Celebration during the same week. To hold a Celebration, a Divinity must be able to perform the actions described in that Celebration. When a Divinity holds a Celebration, the effects described in that Celebration are applied. A Celebration is either one of the following events :

* Marriage
The Divinity chooses two Adult Mortals who don’t already have a Spouse. At least one Mortal’s Legacy must correspond to the Divinity’s Old Name. Each of these two Mortals become the other Mortal’s Spouse. Each Mortal’s Legacy is set to the Divinity’s Old Name.

* Birth
The Divinity chooses one Child Mortal whose Legacy is blank. That Child’s Legacy is set to the Divinity’s Old Name.

Even if a mortal is not vulnerable to your influence, you will be able to meddle with him. A celebration will also be a safe way to ensure your suppremacy. However, remember that you may not manifest and celebrate during the same week, that certain restrictions may apply, and that a mortal’s mind may change over time.

Proposal: My Foes Outnumber My Friends

Passes 13-0. —Brendan

Adminned at 04 Dec 2010 18:07:24 UTC

If the rule “Playthings” exists, replace the following:

Within 24 hours of the end of a given meddling:

  • If the Plaything has a Patron, the Patron may set the Plaything’s Legacy to their Old Name.
  • If the Plaything has no Patron but has a Nemesis, the Nemesis may set the Plaything’s Legacy to their Old Name.

with:

Within 24 hours of the end of a given meddling:

  • If the Plaything has a Patron, the Patron may set the Plaything’s Legacy to their Old Name if they meet at least 1 of the following conditions:
    1. The Plaything has no Nemesis;
    2. The number of Divinities that Uplifted the Plaything is greater than or equal to the number of Divinities that Tormented the Plaything in this Meddling Post.
  • If the Plaything has a Nemesis, the Nemesis may set the Plaything’s Legacy to their Old Name if they meet at least 1 of the following conditions:

    1. The Plaything has no Patron
    2. The number of Divinities that Tormented the Plaything is greater than the number of Divinities that Uplifted the Plaything in this Meddling Post.

I wanted to change the meddling rules a tiny bit to allow for the Nemesis to override the Patron in situations where a Plaything is being Tormented more than Uplifted. I don’t know how well it fits thematically, but as it was it looked to me like the Nemesis would very rarely get the legacy slot.

Remove the first paragraph of rule “Ages”. Change “the Imperatrix advances the Age” in that rule to “the Age is advanced”.

Change the last paragraph of “Ages” to the following:

Rules can be tagged so that they only apply during certain Ages. A rule which has in its title only applies the Age has not advanced during this Dynasty. A rule which has [II] in its title only applies if the Age has advanced once, and no more than once, during this Dynasty. A rule which has [III] in its title applies only if the Age has advanced twice in this dynasty. Rules which do not apply in the current Age have no effect on the gamestate or the rest of the ruleset. A rule may have multiple tags; in which case the rule applies to all of the Ages for which it is appropriately tagged. Rules without a tag apply at all times as normal. Any subrules of a tagged rule are considered to have the same tag.

Add a subrule to “Ages”, “The Prophecy of the Gatekeeper ”:

It has been foretold that this Age will come to an end when the Chosen One dies and is not succeeded. One mortal is the Gatekeeper, denoted separately on the Mortals page. If the Gatekeeper becomes Dead, and there is at least one Child, they cease to be the Gatekeeper, and a random Child becomes the Gatekeeper instead. If the Gatekeeper becomes Dead and no Mortal has the status Child, the Age advances.

Create the Gatekeeper. This shall be an Adult Mortal with the name “Ed de Goey”, blank Spouse and Legacy, and a vulnerability to the Ephemeral.

If at least half of the Effective Vote Comments to this proposal contain the phrase “backup”, also create a Child Mortal with the name “Johnny Generic”, blank Spouse and Legacy, and vulnerabilities to two random spheres of Influence.

Proposal: Shall We Their Fond Pageant See

Times out and finally passes, 12-4.—Brendan

Adminned at 03 Dec 2010 15:22:39 UTC

Within the rule “Mortals”, replace every instance of the phrase “Optimus Divinity” with “Imperatrix”.

Add the following paragraph to the rule “Piety”:

As a weekly action, a Divinity may Manifest, and add X to their Prominence.

Add a new subrule to the rule “Influence”, called “Playthings”, with the following text:

As a weekly action, if no other Divinity has done so within the past 12 hours, a Divinity may meddle with a mortal by spending V Prominence to create a Story Post with the title “Meddling with MORTAL’S NAME,” where MORTAL’S NAME is the name of any mortal from the Mortals wiki page.  This is called a Meddling Post, and the mortal in question is called the Plaything.  The Divinity shall also note the spheres of Influence to which that mortal is vulnerable as flavor text.  No Divinity may meddle with a mortal if that mortal has been a Plaything within the past 24 hours.

Divinities may join in by posting a comment on the Meddling Post.  Should a Divinity comment more than once on any Meddling Post, all their comments on that post are considered illegal.

  • If the comment includes the word “Torment,” the Divinity Torments the Plaything. If the Divinity has a Negative Influence in one of the spheres affecting the Plaything, they may increase their Prominence by up to V.
  • If the comment includes the word “Uplift,” the Divinity Uplifts the Plaything.  If the Divinity has a Positive Influence in one of the spheres affecting the Plaything, they may increase their Prominence by up to X.

Note that no such action may increase a Divinity’s Prominence beyond the limits set in the rule “Piety.”  No Divinity may both Torment and Uplift in the same comment.

When 24 hours have elapsed since the Meddling Post was created, the meddling is ended, and no further comments may be made on it.

If any Divinities Uplifted the Plaything, the one among them with the lowest Prominence when the meddling ends becomes the mortal’s Patron.  If any Divinities Tormented the Plaything, the one among them with the highest Prominence when the meddling ends becomes the mortal’s Nemesis. If no Divinities Uplifted the Plaything or if no Divinities Tormented the Plaything, when the meddling is finished, the Plaything has no Patron or no Nemesis, respectively. In the case of ties for Patron or Nemesis, the Plaything has no Patron or no Nemesis, respectively.

If the proposal “Ozymandias” passed, add the following text to the rule “Playthings” as well:

Within 24 hours of the end of a given meddling:

  • If the Plaything has a Patron, the Patron may set the Plaything’s Legacy to their Old Name.
  • If the Plaything has no Patron but has a Nemesis, the Nemesis may set the Plaything’s Legacy to their Old Name.

Boiled down: we can pick mortals to toy with, and either torment them or uplift them.  Of the two, uplifting gets you more Prominence, but you’ll want to be either a high-Prominence tormentor or a low-Prominence Uplifter to get their Legacy slot.

all Adult Mortals become Dead, and all Child Mortals become Adult

If the"Mortals” exists, replace all instances of “Optimus Divinity” with “Imperatrix” (including within Subrules)

If the Proposal “Ozymandias” did not pass, the rest of this Proposal does nothing.

Replace “the Optimus Divinity may create new, Alive mortals with a blank Legacy” with:

the Imperatrix may create new, Alive mortals with a blank Legacy.

Rename the GNDT column “OldName” to “Nomen”,

and replace “The Old Name of the Divinity known as Alecto is always “Alecto”.” with:

The Nomen of the Divinity known as Alecto is always “Alecto”.

I don’t mind having a few things to do.  I feel that “Optimus Divinity” shouldn’t be a job.  Can I have wiki access if this passes, please?

Call for Judgment: Loophole in Rule 2.3 Ages

This doesn’t have any effect on the ruleset or gamestate -Darth

In the Rule “2.3 Ages” the text

The Divinity who had the highest value for Prominence at the end of an Age is considered to be the Optimus Divinity for the next Age.

could be changed to avoid possible problems in case of a tie at the end of an Age.

successful change of name

My old screen name still remains in the “Current Active Players” list.
Is it a matter of time until it lists the new name, or does the change require admin intervention?

I changed my name throught the “My Account” link.

Proposal: I + I = IIi

If either or both of the Proposals titled “Lord, What Fools” and “Ozymandias” failed, this Proposal does nothing.

In “Mortals”, change

Each such listing comprises a mortal’s name, their Health (“Alive” or “Dead”), their Legacy (either blank, or a Nomen from the Pantheon)

to

Each such listing comprises a mortal’s name, their Status (“Child”, “Adult” or “Dead”), their Legacy (either blank, or a Nomen from the Pantheon), their Spouse (either blank, or the name of another Mortal)

Also, change

the Optimus Divinity may create new, Alive mortals with a blank Legacy

to

the Optimus Divinity may create new, Adult mortals with a blank Legacy and Spouse

If any Mortals exist, set their Status to Adult, and blank their Legacy and Spouse.

It seems like half the gods in this pantheon are concerned with children, and the other half are wind gods. The old Romans must have been obsessed with fart jokes.

Proposal: Ozymandias

Passes 13-0.—Brendan

If the rule “Mortals” exists, replace “Each such listing comprises a mortal’s name” with:-

Each such listing comprises a mortal’s name, their Health (“Alive” or “Dead”), their Legacy (either blank, or a Nomen from the Pantheon)

And replace “the Optimus Divinity may create new mortals” with:-

the Optimus Divinity may create new, Alive mortals with a blank Legacy

If the rule “Mortals” exists, then in Rule 2.3 (Ages), replace “Whenever the Imperatrix advances the Age, all values tracked in the GNDT are reset to the values defined by the rules for new starters.” with:-

Whenever the Imperatrix advances the Age, all values tracked in the GNDT are reset to the values defined by the rules for new starters, and all Mortals become Dead.

In Rule 2.1 (The Old Gods), replace “they may choose a name from the “Deity” column at http://www.unrv.com/culture/minor-roman-god-list.php,” with:-

they may choose a Nomen from the Pantheon

...and add to Rule 2.1:-

The Nomens of the Pantheon are the names listed in the “Deity” column at http://www.unrv.com/culture/minor-roman-god-list.php.

...and replace “Alecto’s Old Name is always “Alecto”.” with “The Old Name of the Divinity known as Alecto is always “Alecto”.”

Making the Mortals mortal, but giving room for their manipulation into leaving behind a legacy. And some minor cleanup of the Old Gods rule, while I’m here - it’s probably useful to have a keyword for “legal Old Name which may or may not be in current use by an active player”.

Proposal: Laverna-proofing

Passes 13-0. —Brendan

Add to “Ages”:

Whenever a Divinity who has not been active in the current Age unidles, their values in the GNDT are re-initialized as if they joined as a new Divinity.

Proposal: Lord, What Fools

If the sentence “Whenever the Age changes, within 24 hours of the change, each Divinity may set all their Influences to Neutral exactly once.” exists in the rule “Ages”, delete it.

If the rule “Influence” exists, change the sentence reading “At any time, if a Divinity has Neutral influence in all three spheres, they may simultaneously set one Influence to Positive and another to Negative.” to:

At any time, if a Divinity has Neutral influence in all three spheres, they may simultaneously set one of their own Influences to Positive and another to Negative.

Set the Influences of all Divinities to Neutral.

Create a subrule to the rule “Influence”, called “Mortals”, with the following text:

The Old Gods reserve their attention for those few mortals whose lives they can affect, who are listed on the Mortals wiki page.  Each such listing comprises a mortal’s name and the single sphere or two spheres of Influence in which they can be affected.

Let Z be a number equal to one half of Quorum, rounded down; if at any time the Mortals page lists fewer than Z mortals, the Optimus Divinity may create new mortals and list them on that page until there are Z mortals.  Of the possible combinations of one or two spheres of Influence (Ephemeral; Material; Domestic; Ephemeral and Material; Ephemeral and Domestic; Material and Domestic) to which mortals may be vulnerable, the Optimus Divinity must distribute new mortals among them as evenly as possible.

Possible next step: smiling upon or tormenting mortals on whom you have positive or negative influence, possibly in order to gain Prominence.
