Proposal: Conservation of Standing

Passes 5-3. Enacted by Brendan.

Adminned at 02 Apr 2015 22:54:07 UTC

Add the following text to the rule “Death and Reincarnation:”

If a Townsperson has been made to die within the last 24 hours, and they have not Named an Heir within the current Season, and they have not Named an Heir since the last time they were made to die, and their Standing was reduced the last time they were made to die: then, as a Daily Action, they may Name an Heir, and by doing so increase the Standing of one other Townsperson by 1.

Proposal: To the right, everyone take a second cross

Passes 7-0. Enacted by Brendan.

Adminned at 02 Apr 2015 22:52:34 UTC

In the subrule “Winter” of rule “Seasonal Changes”, remove the sentence

When a Townsperson dies, their Home is set to “@v”.

In the rule “Death and Reincarnation” replace

setting their Home to “@”,

with

setting their Home to “@v”,

I believe that sentence has no effect as of now or if it has, it is conflicting with the setup of Death and Reincarnation. If it is meant to prevent “chain death”, it’s not preventing “double death”, if a townsperson dies in Fall for some reason, he’s almost certain to die in Winter as well, since there is almost no way to gain edible stuff, especially with the workplace already set to Home. Thus let’s start with some vegetables, ok?

Damn haste. ;)

Proposal: Sumer Is Acumen In

Passes 9-0. Enacted by Brendan.

Adminned at 02 Apr 2015 22:50:55 UTC

In the rule “Workplaces”, replace “Each Townsperson without a Workplace may have an Acumen, tracked as a number in the Workplace field.” with:-

Each Townsperson without a Workplace may have an Acumen, tracked as a number (which may be positive or negative) in the Workplace field.

Day of Reading

Sitting out the hurricane and reaching for the bookshelves, every Townsperson loses 10 Acumen per book.

Declaration of Victory: I stand defeating

Number of Townspeople not voting AGAINST is less than Quorum. Failed by Kevan. Remember that “When a DoV is failed, if it had at least one AGAINST vote, the Townsperson who posted it cannot make another DoV until after 120 hours (5 days) have passed since the time their DoV was failed.”

Adminned at 29 Mar 2015 21:39:45 UTC

I believe I have achieved victory as I have achieved a standing of 5 or higher and that is higher then the standing of any other Townsperson.

Day of Observance: The end is nigh

I hereby anounce a Day of Observance. This ends the current season. The incoming weather is Hurricane.

This post is nigh until further notice.

Proposal: Book Club

Timed out 3 votes to 0 with two unresolved DEFs. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 30 Mar 2015 09:39:51 UTC

Add to “Thing Effects”:-

If nobody has done so during the current Season, a Townsperson may call a Day of Reading by making a blog post announcing it. Upon doing so, each Book which exists in a Home causes its owner’s Acumen to be reduced by 10 (if they have an Acumen). This reduction must be performed by the Townsperson who called the Day of Reading.

Proposal: Wise and Furnished man can stand tall, too

Self killed - DK

Adminned at 26 Mar 2015 23:06:32 UTC

In the rule “Standing”, if it is there, change the text

and a Standing higher than every other Townsperson, that Townsperson has achieved victory.

to

and his or her Standing was higher than every other Townspersons Standing for the last 24 hours or more, that Townsperson has achieved victory.

Fixing, if needed, the missing effect of “Standing Tall”.

Proposal: Age of Enlightenment

Reached quorum 7 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 29 Mar 2015 21:47:33 UTC

Repeal the rule “Prophecies” and its subrule.

This rule hasn’t really gone anywhere, and seems redundant alongside horoscopes and other ways to gain Fate, now.

In the rule “Standing”, change the sentence

If a Townsperson has a Standing of five or more, and a Standing higher than every other Townsperson, that Townsperson has achieved victory.

to

If a Townsperson has a Standing of five or more, and his or her Standing was higher than every other Townspersons Standing for the last 24 hours or more, that Townsperson has achieved victory.

Right now, praying is a very reliable source of standing increase. Praying can be done once per season. Season’s change by admins “unneighing” a Day of Observance post. Meaning that admins have a much higher chance of being online when the season changes and thus being first in achieving the fifth standing point by praying.

This shouldn’t depend on an administrative role!

Story Post: Summer Reading

Long have I nudged around the tealeaves of my midafternoon brew. This is what they tell me. Obey these Predictions for your Birth Signs and you will gain fortune at the passing of the season.

The Eel
Distaff: Buy at least one Animal this summer.
Flax: Do not hold the job of Shepherd.
Spindle: Hold the job of Clerk.

The Bee
Distaff: Do not have a hearth in your home.
Flax: Hold the job of Farmer.
Spindle: Hold the job of Priest.

The Toad
Distaff: Gain at least one book this season.
Flax: Suffer the Plague in your home.
Spindle: Hold the job of Healer.

The Crossed Swords
Distaff: Have less furniture at the end of this season than you did at the beginning.
Flax: Do not hold the job of Smith.
Spindle: Do not die.

The Greater Triangle
Distaff: Do not hold the job of Builder
Flax: Have less meat at the end of this season than you did at the beginning.
Spindle: Have less money at the end of this season than you did at the beginning.

The Parapet
Distaff: Have at least one constellation from your birthsign visible in the sky.
Flax: Hold the job of Teacher.
Spindle: Have at least one animal in your house.

Follow these forecasts and the great wheel of fate is sure to look upon you with benevolent eyes.

Proposal: Love is a Burning Thing

Adminned at 29 Mar 2015 21:47:04 UTC

Dependent on “Rings and Things”.

Remove “If they have never done so before, the first time a Townsperson becomes Married, they may immediately gain 1 Standing.” from the rule “Autumn”, if it’s there.

Add to the start of the final paragraph of the rule “Thing Effects”:-

When a Townsperson gains a Ring through Marriage, they may gain 1 Standing. When a Townsperson loses a Ring from their Home, they lose 1 Standing and (if they have more than 1 Human in their Home) they also lose 1 Human from their Home.

Making it so that losing a Ring undoes the effect of the marriage.

Proposal: Weather 3.0

Timed out 8 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 29 Mar 2015 21:43:03 UTC

Change rule “Weather Conditions” to read:

At any time, one Weather Condition (Weather in short) will be in effect.
The current Weather is tracked in the Blognomic sidebar.

Possible Weather Conditions are as follows:
1. Hurricane
2. Snow
3. Rain
4. Sun
Sun, Rain, and Snow are Typical Weather Conditions; Hurricane is a Disastrous Weather Condition.

The Incoming Weather condition is determined as follows:
-if there are no Priests, it is Hurricane;
-if there is exactly one Priest and the Season is Summer or Spring, it is Rain;
-if there is exactly one Priest and the Season is Autumn/Fall or Winter, it is Snow;
-if there are two or more Priests, it is Sun.

Making weather a bit more sensible to the number of priests. It’s been pretty windy lately.

Proposal: Rings and Things

Timed out 8 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 29 Mar 2015 21:42:23 UTC

In the rule “Autumn / Fall”, replace “Any Townsperson may get married if they have never done so and have at least three Moneys. When they get married, they must add a Human to their Home if they don’t have a Human in their Home already. If they do already have a Human in their Home, they instead may add a Human to their Home, but they do not have to. They must track that they have gotten married by adding (M) to their Home. Any Townsperson who loses their last Human ceases to be married, if they were married, and loses any instances of (M) in their Home.” with:-

Any Townsperson with no Ring and who is not a Priest may get married if they have at least three Moneys. When they get married, they add a Human and a Ring to their Home.

Remove “Priests can not get married and married Townspersons can not become Priests.” from that rule, and add to “Thing Effects”:-

If a Townsperson has a Ring, they may not choose “Church” as their Workplace.

To the list of Things, add:-

r: Ring

In the rule “Spring”, replace “remove up to three non-Plague Things” with:-

remove up to three non-Plague, non-Ring Things

If any Townspeople are Married when this proposal enacts, give each of them 1 Ring.

Simplifying the marriage process, changing the floating “(M)” into a physical object, and fixing the Priest restriction so that it applies all year.

Proposal: Astrolomatrimony

Timed out 5 votes to 2. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 29 Mar 2015 21:41:10 UTC

Delete the sentence in the rule “Workplaces” that reads “A Townsperson is Respectable if they are a Teacher or a Priest, or if they are married.”

Add the following sentence to the rule “Autumn / Fall”:

If they have never done so before, the first time a Townsperson becomes Married, they may immediately gain 1 Standing.

What good is respect in this town anyway?

Proposal: Means of Production

Timed out 7 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 29 Mar 2015 21:40:25 UTC

Change the sentence in the rule “Marketplaces” that reads “Any Active Merchant who has the Things demanded in a valid Offer can accept it by posting a comment to that same blog entry announcing that he accepts it.” to read:

Any Townsperson who has the Things demanded in a valid Offer can accept it by posting a comment to that same blog entry announcing that they accept it.

Right now only Ely and Kevan can accept each other’s offers, which honestly seems too limited to be anything but a scam setup to me. Merchants being the only ones who can create offers should be enough of a limit on their exploitation.

Proposal: The Wise and the Furnished

Self-killed. Failed by Brendan.

Adminned at 24 Mar 2015 23:18:45 UTC

Add to “Thing Effects”:

If a Townsperson has more Books than any other, they are the Wisest Townsperson. If the Wisest Townsperson has a Standing of 5, and they have the highest or tied highest Standing, then the Wisest Townsperson has achieved victory.
If a Townsperson has more Furniture than any other, they are the Craftiest Townsperson. Whenever the Acumen of the Craftiest Townsperson would be set to a value higher than 15, it is set to 15 instead.

In Rule “Standing”, change all instances of “five” to “six”.

This gives some purpose to all the books and Furniture we’ve been amassing. The Books are to keep a sort of track of the longevity of one’s avatar.
In the current conditions, Wisest would be contended and mideg would be the Craftiest.

Day of Observance: Still blowing.

I called a Day of Observance.
Spring is ending.
Ely and Kevan will be Active Merchants until the next Day of Observance.
The incoming weather is Hurricane.
Have a nice day.

In the rule “Prophecies”, replace “Once per Season, (but not if the weather is Rain and not if the Sky has not yet been examined in the current Season) each Townsperson may spend two Fate to make a Prophecy.” with:-

Once per Season, a Townsperson may remove any one non-Plague Thing from their Home to make a Prophecy.

We’ve had no Prophecies since the cost went up to 2 Fate.

In the Rule “Workplaces”, change the bullet point

Pasture (Shepherd): If it is Spring and if at least a quarter of the Townspersons, rounded up, are Shepherds, each Townperson with at least 2 animals gains an animal.

to

Pasture (Shepherd): The shepherd gains 1 Meat for every Animal in his Home. If it is Spring and if at least a quarter of the Townspersons, rounded up, are Shepherds, each Townperson with at least 2 animals gains an animal.

Introducing a way to gain meat.

Proposal: Either

Proposal: That’d be a cleansing

Timed out / quorumed 7 votes to 1. Enacted by Kevan.

If they have not done so during the current Spring, at any time, a Townsperson may Clean, and by doing so remove up to three non-Plague Things from their Home.

Removing Plagues just by cleaning is too strong.

Proposal: Changing workplaces

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 23 Mar 2015 14:40:30 UTC

Under rule 2.7 where it says:

...any Townsperson may change that Townsperson’s Workplace to “Home”

add the following:

Any townsperson that has had their workplace changed in this manner, may change their workplace to any other workplace if they wish only once during the season.

It came as a little bit of surprise when I logged on this morning to find myself back working in the home again, and I wondered if their was a better way to change work place then to just change it in the GNDT. Their is currently no way to change the workplace to something either more desireable or more in line with the astrologers reading of the cosmos if someone else sets your workplace to Home, as described in the rule.

Proposal: Climate Change

Timed out / quorumed 6 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 23 Mar 2015 14:38:34 UTC

To the end of the paragraph beginning “To determine the Incoming Weather”, add:-

If an Incoming Weather of Snow would be determined in Spring, an Incoming Weather of Rain is determined instead.

Removing the possibility of snow in summer.

For a better Understanding

Dependent on Grandstanding.

If Understanding passes, this proposal does nothing.

In rule “Death and Reincarnation”, change “If a Townsperson is in a perilous condition and their Home is neither empty nor only containing a single Human, any Townsperson may (and should) make them die by setting their Home to “@” and remove, if they have any, their workplace, their birthsigns and their vision. Also set their Fate to 0.” to:

If a Townsperson is in a perilous condition and their Home is neither empty nor only containing a single Human, any Townsperson may (and should) make them die by setting their Home to “@”, reduce their Standing by 2 and setting all their other variables to the default values.

Proposing an improved variant of Understanding.

Proposal: Reducing Redundencies

At 1-6, cannot pass. Failed by Brendan.

Under Rule 2.9.2 Remove:

Under Rule 2.9.3 Remove:

This rule has no effect unless the current Season is Spring.

Under Rule 2.9 Add:

These rules have no effect unless the current season is the same as the subrule

It’s a little tedious to add “This rule has no effect unless the current Season is (Insert Season here)” to proposals. I’m making it universal in rule 2.9 by stating that the current season affect which rules we have.

Proposal: Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme

Passes 6-0. Enacted by Brendan.

Adminned at 19 Mar 2015 18:20:04 UTC

Create a new Sub-rule to rule Seasonal Changes, titled “Summer”:

This rule has no effect unless the current Season is Summer.
Once per Season, each Active Merchant may spend any amount of Money to gain that number of Animals in their Home.

Add to the end of rule Winter:

If a Townsperson has less foodstuff (i.e. Animals, Vegetables, Meat, or any combination of them) than Humans in their Home, any Townsperson may and should reduce the number of Humans in their Home by one.
When a Townsperson dies, their Home is set to “@v”.

Add to the end of rule “Spring”:

Vegetables and Meat are perishable, and may be removed from all Townspeople’s Homes.

Add the following to the rule “Readings”:

If a Townsperson has not Prayed yet in the current Season, and at least one of the Constellations in their Birth Sign is visible in the Sky, that Townsperson may Pray, and thereby spend 1 Fate to gain 1 Standing. If a Townsperson has not Prayed yet in the current Season, and none of the Constellations in their Birth Sign are visible in the Sky, that Townsperson may Pray, and thereby spend 2 Fate to gain 1 Standing. A Townsperson may not Pray if doing so would reduce their Fate to less than 0.

Should be a slow enough converter that Fate is important, but no longer a lottery victory mechanism.

Proposal: Standing Forward

Passes 7-0. Enacted by Brendan.

Adminned at 19 Mar 2015 18:16:38 UTC

Dependent on “Grandstanding”.

Reword the Farm workplace effect from “If it is Autumn, and if there are three Farmers, then each Townsperson gains one Vegetable.” to:-

If it is Autumn, and if there are at least three Farmers, then each non-Farmer Townsperson gains one Vegetable and each Farmer gains 1 Standing.

Replace “If at least 1 Plague has been removed this way, each Healer gains 1 Money.” with:-

If at least 1 Plague has been removed this way, each Healer who did not have a Plague removed from them this Season them gains 1 Standing.

Add a new Workplace after “Trading Post”:-

  • Council (Councillor): Each Councillor loses 1 Money. Then, each Councillor who lost Money in this way this Season gains 1 Standing.

Proposal: Grandstanding

Adminned at 19 Mar 2015 18:13:28 UTC

If the Proposal “Gainful Employment” has been enacted, this Proposal has no effect.

Replace the paragraph in the rule “Workplaces” that reads

Each Townsperson may have a Workplace, tracked in the GNDT. If a Townsperson has an Acumen and it is the highest (or tied highest) Acumen of all Townspeople with no Workplace, that Townsperson may change their Workplace to any Workplace listed in this rule. If a Townsperson has an Acumen and it is the highest (or tied highest) Acumen of all Townspeople with no Workplace, and if they have had the highest Acumen for 24 hours or more, any Townsperson may change that Townsperson’s Workplace to “Home”.

with the following:

Each Townsperson may have one or more Workplaces, tracked in the GNDT. If a Townsperson has an Acumen and it is the highest (or tied highest) Acumen of all Townspeople with no Workplace, that Townsperson may change their Workplace to any Workplace listed in this rule. If that Townsperson has more than one Human in their Home, that Townsperson may instead select two different Workplaces. If a Townsperson has an Acumen and it is the highest (or tied highest) Acumen of all Townspeople with no Workplace, and if they have had the highest Acumen for 24 hours or more, any Townsperson may change that Townsperson’s Workplace to “Home”.

If a rule checks whether a Townsperson holds a given Workplace or “is” the occupation name for a given Workplace, and at least one of the Workplaces a Townsperson holds would make that condition true, the rule in question is considered to apply to them.

Proposal: Gainful employment

Before making each Reading, the Astrologer should evaluate their previous Reading, and adjust the Fate of each Townsperson accordingly. For each Townsperson, they should assess whether the requirements set out in the Predictions for the Constellation / Sign Position pairings in their Birth Signs have been met. For each Prediction that has been met, a Townsperson gains 1 Fate. For each Prediction that has not been met, a Townsperson loses 1 Fate. If a Townsperson has not met any of their Predictions, they neither gain nor lose Fate. If the Astrologer feels that any Townspeople are Uncanny, each such Townsperson gains 1 Fate.

Reached quorum 9 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 12 Mar 2015 09:47:35 UTC

To “Readings”, add a paragraph after the third:-

A Townsperson is Uncanny if it would be impossible for them to meet all the Predictions of their current Birth Sign during the current Season and under the current Ruleset, if no further Proposals or CfJs were enacted. If a Townsperson feels that they are Uncanny, they may respond to the Readings Post with a comment stating this, and explaining why.

To the final paragraph, add:-

If the Astrologer feels that any Townspeople are Uncanny, each such Townsperson gains 1 Fate.

At least a couple of Townspeople cannot possibly meet all three of their current Predictions this Season, even if they wanted to.

Story Post: [Prophecy] Fertility ahead.

The Toad and The Eel look upon us with their benevolent eyes, meaning that a time of prosperity and fertility is coming upon us.
The Crossed Swords indicate that this prosperity will affect only a few of us.

I foresee that by the end of Winter at least one, but less than a Quorum of Townspeople will have 3 humans in their home.

Story Post: Winter Reading

Long have I stared into the inky blackness of the vast unknown. This is what it tells me. Obey these Predictions for your Birth Signs and you will gain fortune at the passing of the season.

The Eel
Distaff: Gain 5 vegetables in your home during this Season
Flax: Have two Constellations from your Birth Sign not visible in the sky by the end of the Season
Spindle: Have exactly two gold in your home when the Season ends

The Bee
Distaff: Gain 2 animals in your home during the Season
Flax: Gain 2 humans in your home during the Season
Spindle: Do not hold the job of Smith

The Toad
Distaff: Carry out a Sacrifice this Winter
Flax: Do not die
Spindle: Have no meat in your home

The Crossed Swords
Distaff: Have no plague in your home
Flax: Have exactly one hearth in your home
Spindle: Do not hold the job of Shepherd

The Greater Triangle
Distaff: Take up the job of Builder
Flax: Take up the job of Farmer
Spindle: Take up the job of Healer

The Parapet
Distaff: Do not hold the job of Homemaker
Flax: Gain one item of furniture for your home
Spindle: Lose one book from your home

Follow these forecasts and the great wheel of fate is sure to look upon you with benevolent eyes.

Especially you, Flaxen Toads. That is some rock solid advice right there.

I haven’t checked whether all of these are possible under current rules, but that’ll give us something to make proposals about for the next few days.

Proposal: Slackers don’t work

In the rule “Workplaces”, change the text “If a Townsperson has an Acumen and it is the highest (or tied highest) Acumen of all Townspeople with no Workplace, and if they have had the highest Acumen for 24 hours or more, any Townsperson may change that Townsperson’s Workplace to any Workplace listed in this rule.” to

If a Townsperson has an Acumen and it is the highest (or tied highest) Acumen of all Townspeople with no Workplace, and if they have had the highest Acumen for 24 hours or more, any Townsperson may change that Townsperson’s Workplace to “Home”.

I’m guilty as charged in that I have set alarms to be the one to decide the workplace of ... late ... Townpersons. I think that’s unfair. Setting them to a fixed setting that doesn’t benefit them seems better.

This autumns Day of Observance

I hereby announce the Day of Observance! Thus, this season, which is Autumn / Fall, hereby ends.

Bring Out Your Dead

RaichuKFM hasn’t posted or commented in over a week, and goes idle. Quorum remains 6, Super Quorum drops to 8.

Proposal: Death is final

Timed out 5 votes to 2. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 12 Mar 2015 09:44:11 UTC

In the rule “Death and Reincarnation” change the text “any Townsperson may (and should) make them die by setting their Home to “@”.” to

any Townsperson may (and should) make them die by setting their Home to “@” and remove, if they have any, their workplace, their birthsigns and their vision. Also set their Fate to 0.

If the Proposal Marketplaces now with a barker has been enacted, change the sentence “Any Townsperson who was announced as Active Merchants in the blog entry announcing the most recent Day of Observance is considered an “Active Merchant” until the next Day of Observance.” to

Any Townsperson who was announced as Active Merchants in the blog entry announcing the most recent Day of Observance and has not died since then is considered an “Active Merchant” until the next Day of Observance.

and, in the same rule, add a bullet point to the top of the bullet point list of conditions for a valid Offer with the following text

- The Seller is an Active Merchant.

Death should be a real hindrance, not just loosing your stuff.

Kicking the Bucket

Joe Pail has made no blog posts or comments in the past seven days, and goes idle. Quorum drops to 6, Super Quorum to 9.

Discreet Neighbour

While processing the wannabe day of observance, I noticed that Townsperson Joe Pail had not been assigned an acumen when it was assigned to Josh and RaichuKFM (this was due to Joe Pail not being displayed in the GNDT). I reverted back to when those values were assigned and rolled for all three Feckless Townspeople.
This might significantly slow down the game.

Proposal: Bee Market

Over 48 hours old and, at 1-3 with 1 unresolved DEF, cannot be enacted. Failed by Brendan.

Adminned at 11 Mar 2015 21:39:44 UTC

Create a new rule called “Trading” as follows:

This rule has no effect during a Seasonal Festival.

At any time, a Townsperson may Pay another Townsperson by removing one non-Human, non-Plague, non-Workroom Thing from their Home, placing it in the Home of the other Townsperson, and immediately updating the GNDT to reflect the payment.

Yes, this can probably be scammed. Please scam this rule. Scamming rules is fun.

I just realized how fun this Dynasty is

Unidle me. Thanks (lol sorry for the spammy coming and going)

Proposal: Trust the stars

Over 48 hours old and, at 3-5, cannot be enacted. Failed by Brendan.

Adminned at 11 Mar 2015 21:38:49 UTC

Add a subrule to the rule entitled Readings, called Destiny:

The first Townsperson to have a Fate higher than 5 has carried out their destiny, and has achieved Victory.

Proposal: Marketplaces now with a barker

Passes 6-0 with 1 unresolved DEF. Enacted by Brendan.

Adminned at 11 Mar 2015 21:36:38 UTC

Add a new bullet point to the bullet point list of workplaces in the rule “Workplaces” with the following text:

Trading Post (Merchant): Announce the names of all Merchants in the blog entry announcing this Day of Observance as Active Merchants until the next Day of Observance.

Add a new dynastic rule “Marketplaces” with the following text:

Any Townsperson who was announced as Active Merchants in the blog entry announcing the most recent Day of Observance is considered an “Active Merchant” until the next Day of Observance. Any Active Merchant may post an Offer as a comment to that blog entry. He is considered to be the Seller of that Offer. An Offer must contain a list of one or more non-Human, non-Plague things the Seller offers and a list of one or more non-Human, non-Plague things the Seller demands.

For an Offer to be valid the following conditions have all to be true:
- It has not been accepted.
- The Seller has all the Things offered in his Home.
- It must be a comment in the most recent blog entry announcing a Day of Observance.
- The Seller has not made a comment in the same blog entry announcing that he retracts that Offer.

Any Active Merchant who has the Things demanded in a valid Offer can accept it by posting a comment to that same blog entry announcing that he accepts it. He then has to immediatly remove the Things demanded in the Offer from his own Home and add them to the Home of the Seller of the Offer. He then has to immediatly remove the Things offered in the Offer from the Seller and add them to his own Home.

OK, I think I have worked out at least the issues pointed out by my last try. ;-)

I wasn’t completly sure if the action in the bullet point list is enough for the Townsperson doing the DoO, what do you think?

- Each offer can only be done once, afterwards, its invalid.
- A trade can only be enacted by the involving Townpersons.
- All trades and stuff take place in the DoO blog entry - It needs a name, really - meaning less blog entries and more centralized action. :-)

Although I’m never without hope, I’m almost sure you will find more loopholes this time around, so I can fix them. :-P

Idling

Too much dynasty, too little time. Both quorums are unaffected.

Proposal: Cornering the Market

Passes 7-0. Enacted by Brendan.

Adminned at 11 Mar 2015 21:33:56 UTC

Reword the effect of the Hall from “Each Townsperson with a Workplace gains 1 Money.” to:-

For each Workplace held by only one Townsperson, that Townsperson gains 1 Money.

A reward for having a Workplace doesn’t make much sense now that everyone will have a Workplace every round. This pays players for taking roles that others aren’t.

Proposal: The Acutest of us

Passes 9-0. Enacted by Brendan.

Adminned at 11 Mar 2015 21:32:25 UTC

In rule Workplaces, at the end of the paragraph reading as follows: “Each Townsperson without a Workplace may have an Acumen, tracked as a number in the Workplace field. If any Townsperson has neither a Workplace nor an Acumen, they are considered Feckless. If any Townspeople are Feckless, then any Townsperson may roll a separate DICE99 for each Feckless Townsperson (in the order that they are listed in the GNDT), and then set each Feckless Townperson’s Acumen to the value rolled for them.”

Add:

Whenever the Astrologer’s Acumen would be set to any numeric value other than 100, it is set to 100 instead.

This removes the situation where some players have a random advantage by knowing what the Astrologer is doing in that round (hard to guess in advance since he doesn’t play to win). Now everybody gets that advantage.

Idling

Idle me. Thanks.

Proposal: Marketplaces

Self-killed. Failed by Brendan.

Adminned at 09 Mar 2015 19:32:53 UTC

If the proposal “Merchants” has passed, this proposal does nothing.

Create a new rule “Marketplaces” with the following text:

If there is no valid Marketplace Post, any Acting Merchant may post a story post with the current season and the word “Marketplace” in the title. This post is considered the valid Marketplace Post until the season in its title is no longer the current season, after which it is considered invalid. At any time, there may only be 1 valid Marketplace Post.

Any Acting Merchant may post comments in the valid Marketplace Post. If a comment contains an unambiguous offer for a trade of non-Human non-Plague things between the commenting Townsperson and another Acting Merchant, it is considered an Offer. If a comment unambiguously accepts an Offer made previously in the same valid Marketplace Post, then the trade offered in the Offer can be enacted by the Acting Merchant accepting the Offer by changing the GNDT to reflect the trade. Such a trade can only exchange non-Human non-Plague things between exactly two different Acting Merchants, the one who made the Offer and the one who accepted it. No Townsperson can gain anything by a trade that the other Townsperson involved does not loose by the trade.

In the rule “Workplaces”, add as a new paragraph after the second:

If the Workplace or the Acumen is denoted with a star next ot it, the Townsperson is considered an Acting Merchant. Whenever an Acumen is replaced with a Workplace or vice versa, a star that was denoted next to it is to be kept, except a rule requires the star to be removed.

In the rule “Workplaces”, change “Then, the Townsperson who called the Day of Observance removes the Workplace and Acumen of every Townsperson.” to

Then, the Townsperson who called the Day of Observance removes the Workplace and Acumen of every Townsperson, including the stars denoting Acting Merchants and he adds a star to the Acument of every Townsperson whose Workplace has been the Trading Post at this Day of Observance.

In the rule “Workplaces”, at the end of the bullet point list, add as a new bullet point:

Trading Post (Aspiring Merchant): Nothing happens.

Although I tried to be really thorough, I just have to hope I have not missed a loophole. I hope this allows for almost any trade except Humans and Plagues, if both Merchants agreed, but nothing more. Really interested in loopholes, feel free to post them.

In the rule entitled “Workplaces” replace “If every Townsperson has a Workplace, then any Townsperson may call a Day of Observance” with “If a quorum of Townspersons has a Workplace, then any Townsperson may call a Day of Observance”.

If Proposal: Merchants passed, replace “If a Super Quorum of Townspersons have Workplaces” with “If a quorum of Townspersons has a Workplace”.

Proposal: Merchants

Self-killed (shortly before ayesdeeef was idled by Kevan). Failed by Brendan.

Adminned at 09 Mar 2015 19:23:33 UTC

Create a new Workplace, Shop, X,Y (Merchant), (where X is a non-Human, non-Plague thing called that Merchant’s “wares” and Y is a non-Human, non-Plague thing called that Merchant’s “goal”) and add it to the list of Workplaces in the Ruleset with the following text:-

If there is a Merchant, then each Merchant with Workplace “Shop, X” and two of X in their Home (where X is that merchant’s wares) removes 2 of X from their Home and and adds that Merchant’s goal to their Home.

In the Rule Workplaces, replace the text “If every Townsperson has a Workplace” with:-

If a Super Quorum of Townspersons have Workplaces

Making this a Workplace and trying to bring back our DoO’s so it can have some effect.

Proposal: Split-Second Quests

Passes 10-0. Enacted by Brendan.

Adminned at 11 Mar 2015 21:31:14 UTC

Reword the sentence in the rule “Autumn/Fall” that begins “If a Townsperson’s Vision is one of the Constellations visible in the Sky” to read:

If a Townsperson’s Vision is one of the Constellations visible in the Sky, and they have not Quested yet in the current Season, that Townsperson may Quest, and by doing so add any one Thing to their Home.

Removes the requirement for a DoO to Quest, since the DoO now takes place at the Seasonal boundary.

Proposal: Fatalism

Passes 11-0. Enacted by Brendan.

Adminned at 11 Mar 2015 21:27:42 UTC

In rule Prophecies remove the string “—Fulfillment” and put the paragraph that follows it into a new sub-rule to rule Prophecies, titled “Fulfillment”.
In rule Prophecies, change “Once per Season, (but not on Sundays, not if the weather is Rain, and not if the Sky has not yet been examined in the current Season) each Townsperson may make a Prophecy.” to read:

Once per Season, (but not if the weather is Rain and not if the Sky has not yet been examined in the current Season) each Townsperson may spend two Fate to make a Prophecy.

In its sub-rule Fulfillment, add to the end of the first paragraph:

They shall then increase all Townspeople’s Fate values by one.

Set the Astrologer’s Fate to 10.

...and this should be the last Proposal I have to repost.
It increases the price for Prophecies, so that they are always a net loss for the author, this should help avoiding Prophe-spam and watering down of the Fate economy.

Proposal: A Bad Week for Eel Triangle Parapets

In the rule “Horoscopes”, replace “Each Townsperson has a Birth Sign, which is tracked in the GNDT.” with:-

Each Townsperson has a Birth Sign, which is tracked in the GNDT as a space-separated list of the final words of those Constellations, in order.

Reproposing this fix to make the GNDT more legible.

Proposal: Red Sky at Night

Times out / quorums 8 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan. Weather seems to be undefined, so defaults to “the alphabetically earliest legal text string it may take”, which is Hurricane.

Adminned at 11 Mar 2015 18:34:04 UTC

Dependent on Weather 2.1.

In “Workplaces”, before “and mention this in a comment on that blog post” add:-

, update the Weather in the sidebar (to the Incoming Weather specified in the Day of Observance post)

Replace “Then the Townsperson who called the Day of Observance shall change the current Weather Condition.” with:-

Then the Townsperson who called the Day of Observance shall determine the incoming Weather Condition.

Replace “and mentioning the end of the current Season” with:-

mentioning the end of the current Season and specifying the Incoming Weather

In “Weather Conditions”, replace “The current Weather is determined in the most recent weather post (or it is Sun if no such post exists), and should be kept track of in the Blognomic sidebar.” with:-

The current Weather is tracked in the Blognomic sidebar.

Replace “Whenever the Weather Condition is changed, it takes” with:-

To determine the Incoming Weather, take

Remove “When (and only when) required to change Weather Conditions, a Townsperson shall make a Story Post with [W] in its title, unambiguously announcing the new Weather Conditions. Such a post is called a weather post.” from the ruleset.

Merging the Weather into the Day of Observance post; the Observer says what it’s calculated as, and an admin updates it along with the Season.

Proposal: Hearth Transplant

Timed out / quorumed 7 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 10 Mar 2015 23:15:49 UTC

Rename “Workroom” to “Hearth”, and change its symbol to “H”.

Replace “Transportation (Laborer): Each Laborer with a Workroom in their Home loses their Workroom. Each Laborer without a Workroom in their Home gains a Workroom.” with:-

Quarry (Builder): Each Builder with a Hearth in their Home loses all of their Hearths, and each Builder without a Hearth in their Home gains a Hearth.

Update any Townsperson whose Workplace is Transportation to be Quarry, and replace Workrooms with Hearths in every Townsperson’s Home.

Add a Workplace to the end of the Workplace list:

Home (Homemaker): No effect. “Home” is not considered to be a Workplace by the effect of the Hall.

Repeal the rule “Workrooms”, and add a subrule to “Homes” called “Thing Effects”:-

Hearths are a fire risk. If a Townsperson has a Hearth, any Townsperson may remove an excess Thing from that Townsperson’s Home.

Replace “If the Weather Conditions are Snow, then if a Townsperson doesn’t have an Indoor Workplace, they are treated as if they have no Workplace.” with:-

If the Weather Conditions are Snow, a Townsperson with no Hearth may not change their Workplace to anything other than “Home”.

If a Townsperson has an Acumen and it is the highest (or tied highest) Acumen of all Townspeople with no Workplace, and if that Townsperson has no Hearth, and if the Weather Conditions are Snow, then any Townsperson may change that Townsperson’s Workplace to “Home”.

Workrooms currently freeze the game in Snow because Townspeople who lack them simply “have no Workplace”, so a Day of Observance can never be reached.

This adds a null Workplace (“Home”) which stuck Townspeople are forced to adopt, renames Workrooms into Hearths and simplifies them a little (excess Things are lost rather than given to the Astrologer - who may himself have excess Things to get rid of - and I can’t see a need to regulate owning multiple Workrooms when there’s no current way to gain more than one).

Proposal: Next Generation Sequencing

Timed out / quorumed 8 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 10 Mar 2015 23:12:59 UTC

In rule Pace, remove the bullet point reading:
“It has been open for at least 24 hours, a Super Quorum has voted upon it, all of the votes are FOR, and it is not contingent on the passage of another pending proposal;”

Change rule “Winter” to read:

This rule has no effect unless the current Season is Winter.

If the Weather Condition in effect is Typical, and they have not yet made a Sacrifice in the current Season, and they have at least two Things in their Home, a Townsperson may make a Sacrifice by removing one Animal from their Home. They may then change their Acumen, if they have one, to one less than the lowest Acumen of all Townspeople, or to 0 if that value would be illegal.

If the Weather Condition in effect is Disastrous, and they have not yet made a Sacrifice in the current Season, a Townsperson may make a Sacrifice by removing one Human from their Home and gaining one Plague. They may then change their Acumen, if they have one, to one less than the lowest Acumen of all Townspeople, or to 0 if that value would be illegal.”

Then, if proposal The Big One failed, repeal rule Winter.

Out of order enactment is a mess, Winter doesn’t check for dependencies and Speedy Proposals is an all-round dangerous mechanic. (I can’t find an example of a use for it outside of a scam)
Now Sacrifices let you choose Workplace last (or among the last), which is a good thing since workplaces are not limited in number of Townspeople who can use them.

Distant Lands Beckon

Idle me please.

_Fox_’s homestead lies empty with a note tacked to the door, “Keep Out!”

Proposal: Weather 2.1

Dependent on The Big One.

In rule Workplaces add immediately before “Then, the Townsperson who called the Day of Observance removes the Workplace and Acumen of every Townsperson.”:

Then the Townsperson who called the Day of Observance shall change the current Weather Condition.

Repeal the Rule called “Forecasting”.

Change Rule “Weather Conditions” to read as follows:

At any time, one Weather Condition (Weather in short) will be in effect.
The current Weather is determined in the most recent weather post (or it is Sun if no such post exists), and should be kept track of in the Blognomic sidebar.

Possible Weather Conditions are as follows:

  1.Hurricane
  2.Snow
  3.Rain
  4.Sun

Sun, Rain, and Snow are Typical Weather Conditions; Hurricane is a Disastrous Weather Condition.
Whenever the Weather Condition is changed, it takes the value which on the above list corresponds to the current number of Priests, or Sun if there are more than 4 Priests, or Hurricane if there are no Priests.
When (and only when) required to change Weather Conditions, a Townsperson shall make a Story Post with [W] in its title, unambiguously announcing the new Weather Conditions. Such a post is called a weather post.

Weather 2.0 clearly had some faulty dependencies. Let’s try with a new library.

Proposal: The Big One

Timed out 8 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan. The Season becomes Autumn and we must wait until a Festival to enact further proposals.

Adminned at 07 Mar 2015 20:47:51 UTC

For ease of reading, this proposal is broken down in several Parts. This fact shall be ignored when enacting this proposal.

Part 0: Let’s Get It Out of the Way
Move the text

Any Townsperson that has a Workplace may throw out their trash by removing X non-Human, non-Plague Things from their Home (Where X is a positive integer). If they do so, they must then roll DICE20 Y times and give themselves a number of Plagues equal to the number of 1s they rolled, where Y is 2X if the Townsperson is a Farmer, Y is 0 if the Townsperson is a Clerk, and Y is X if the Townsperson is neither a Farmer nor a Clerk.

from Rule Workplaces to a new Dynastic Rule called “Trash”.

Part 1: Back in the DHSS and Back Again (implementing Acumen)
In the rule “Workplaces”, add a new paragraph after the first:

Each Townsperson without a Workplace may have an Acumen, tracked as a number in the Workplace field. If any Townsperson has neither a Workplace nor an Acumen, they are considered Feckless. If any Townspeople are Feckless, then any Townsperson may roll a separate DICE99 for each Feckless Townsperson (in the order that they are listed in the GNDT), and then set each Feckless Townperson’s Acumen to the value rolled for them.

Replace “At any time, a Townsperson may change their Workplace to any Workplace listed in this rule.” with:-

If a Townsperson has an Acumen and it is the highest (or tied highest) Acumen of all Townspeople with no Workplace, that Townsperson may change their Workplace to any Workplace listed in this rule. If a Townsperson has an Acumen and it is the highest (or tied highest) Acumen of all Townspeople with no Workplace, and if they have had the highest Acumen for 24 hours or more, any Townsperson may change that Townsperson’s Workplace to any Workplace listed in this rule.

Then replace “If no Townsperson has done so during the current Season, and if at least a Quorum of Townspeople have Workplaces, then any Townsperson may call a Day of Observance.” with:

If every Townsperson has a Workplace, then any Townsperson may call a Day of Observance.

Remove the Bailiff role, and add to that rule, immediately after the bulleted list:

Then, the Townsperson who called the Day of Observance removes the Workplace and Acumen of every Townsperson.

Part 2: Seasonal Adjustment and Forever Autumn (Seasons change with Days of Observance)
Remove the sentences “At 11.59pm UTC on each Sunday, the Season progresses, changing to the Season listed immediately below the current Season in the list above (or returning to Spring if the current Season is Winter).” and “If this item is inaccurate, any Admin may update it to correctly reflect the current Season.” from the rule “The Almanac”.

In the rule “Workplaces”, Immediately after “Then, the Townsperson who called the Day of Observance removes the Workplace and Acumen of every Townsperson.”, add:

Then, the Townsperson who called the Day of Observance should post a blog entry announcing it, and mentioning the end of the current Season. Such posts are Nigh by default. If a blog post of this type is Nigh, any admin may update the Season in the sidebar (changing it to the Season listed immediately below the current Season in The Almanac, or returning to Spring if the current Season is Winter) and mention this in a comment on that blog post; upon doing so, the post ceases to be Nigh.

Upon enactment of this rule, the current Season shall become the Season listed immediately below the current Season in The Almanac (or shall become Spring if the current Season is Winter).

Part 3: Seasonal Affective Order (We enact proposals during Festivals)
Add a new bullet point to the list in the rule entitled “Vocabulary”:

The 48 hour period following each Day of Observance is referred to as the Seasonal Festival period.

In the rule entitled “Pace”, change the words “on a Saturday or Sunday” to “during a Seasonal Festival”.

Add the following to the end of the rule entitled “Horoscopes”:

The relative order of Constellations in Birth Signs is significant. A Constellation may occupy one of thee Sign Positions, as follows: the first Constellation in any Townsperson’s Birth Sign is their Distaff Sign, the middle Constellation is their Flax Sign and the final Constellation is their Spindle Sign.

Part 4: Colder Readings (Fate and Readings for the Astrologer)
Add a new rule to the ruleset, entitled Readings:

All Townspersons have a statistic called Fate, which is tracked in the GNDT and which defaults to zero.

Once during each Seasonal Festival period, the Astrologer should make a Readings post, which should take the format of a story post. The Readings post should set out a Prediction for each Constellation in each Sign Position. The Astrologer’s method of making these Readings should not be random, but should also not be made public.

Predictions may require the change, addition or removal of any gamestate value, or may make no requirement at all.

I’ve quite mindlessly merged the Proposals from Well, that shortened the Queue.
I’ve read it some times, and it makes sense to me, but please read it all and check for errors.

Okay, this has clearly become absurd

The demise of Proposal: Well, That Shortened the Queue has, I think, exposed the current Pace setup as being non-functional. I think the options are:

  • Scrap it and go back to normal
  • Keep the durations as they are but remove all out-of-order enactment or failure provisions, and chalk this up as a permanent indictment of the speedy veto
  • Keep the current arrangements, but find a better way to make dependency links more flexible around early resolution / reproposals

Anything else? Before putting up a proposal it would be good to get a sense as to how people feel about it.

Proposal: The Meat Grinder

Adminned at 07 Mar 2015 18:11:45 UTC

Dependent on Bad Omen

In the rule named “Death and Reincarnation”, change:

If a Townsperson is in a perilous condition, any Townsperson may (and should) make them die by setting all their variables to the default values, and their Home to “@”.

to the following:

If a Townsperson is in a perilous condition and their Home is neither empty nor only containing a single Human, any Townsperson may (and should) make them die by setting their Home to “@”.

Bit strange that new players immediately die upon joining the game (for having no Humans in their Home), unless they’re admins who can quickly add Things to their Home before that happens.

Also, under certain conditions Townspersons could die an arbitrary amount of times (for having no food in winter or by repeatedly changing their occupation to Farmer while the weather is Disastrous) which could be abused to manipulate one’s Birthsign to any desired set of Constellations. Rather than restrict the amount of times Townspersons can die, it seems easier and cleaner to limit the effects of death to the Home column.

Proposal: Weather 2.0

Dependent on Well, “That Shortened the Queue”.

In rule Workplaces:
- add immediately before “Then, the Townsperson who called the Day of Observance removes the Workplace and Acumen of every Townsperson.”:

Then the Townsperson who called the Day of Observance shall change the current Weather Condition.

- move the text

Any Townsperson that has a Workplace may throw out their trash by removing X non-Human, non-Plague Things from their Home (Where X is a positive integer). If they do so, they must then roll DICE20 Y times and give themselves a number of Plagues equal to the number of 1s they rolled, where Y is 2X if the Townsperson is a Farmer, Y is 0 if the Townsperson is a Clerk, and Y is X if the Townsperson is neither a Farmer nor a Clerk.

To a new Rule called “Trash”

When (and only when) required to change Weather Conditions, a Townsperson makes a Story Post with [W] in its title, unambiguously announcing the new Weather Conditions. Such a post is called a weather post.

A fix for cases where no admin is able to process the season change for a Day of Observance within 48 hours.

Once per season, if there is a Clerk, each Townsperson may remove two non-Plague Things of their choice that are the same (for example, two Humans or two Animals) from their Home to add a Thing of their choice to their Home.

This version seems to have been the most popular out of the three.

Apply all ruleset changes proposed by the failed proposal “Back Again in the DHSS”.

Apply all ruleset changes proposed by the failed proposal “Seasonal Adjustment”.

Apply all ruleset changes proposed by the failed proposal “Seasonal Affective Order”, unless the Astrologer has included the words “but don’t enact Seasonal Affective Order” in a comment on this proposal.

Apply all ruleset changes proposed by the failed proposal “Colder Readings”, unless the Astrologer has included the words “but don’t enact Colder Readings” in a comment on this proposal.

Then move the sentence “Then, the Townsperson who called the Day of Observance removes the Workplace and Acumen of every Townsperson.” so that it appears immediately after the bulleted list of Workplaces in the rule “Workplaces”.

Then move the paragraph beginning “Then, the Townsperson who called the Day of Observance should post a blog entry” so that it appears immediately after “Then, the Townsperson who called the Day of Observance removes the Workplace and Acumen of every Townsperson.”

So: I had to self-kill Back Again in the DHSS because Garbage Disposal v2 hit Super Quorum and inserted a paragraph at a point in the Workplaces rule that would have caused Workplaces to reset every time someone took out the trash (allowing players to reroll Acumen endlessly). Which I should have caught when proposing “Back Again”.

Seasonal Adjustment has a similar problem (taking out trash causes the seasons to change), and self-killing that also kills off the dependent proposal Seasonal Affective Order, which kills off Colder Readings. Which in turn kills off Fatality.

It’s a mess, but just reenacting all of the latter (except Fatality) is maybe the cleanest solution. Fatality has had pretty much nothing but DEFs so far, so should probably be reproposed from scratch - Seasonal Affective Disorder seems popular enough, and Colder Readings only has AGAINSTs from players who mistakenly thought we already had a prophecy system (they were all self killed), so I’ll give an option for the Astrologer to unplug either of those two in votes.

Call for Judgment: Proposal limits

Over 48 hours old and, at 1-9, does not have more FOR votes than AGAINST. Failed by Brendan.

Adminned at 07 Mar 2015 06:04:40 UTC

Under rule 1.6, I declare that a call for judgement is needed on rule 2.4 entitled “Pace”. The spirit of the pace rule (Rule 2.4) is to add some sort of pacing to the game, having observed the last dyansty (thirteenth of Kevan) I watched as the proposals get voted on in a mere amount of hours and enacted the next day. Under the current ruleset, that process takes a full week to happen and is setting a somewhat slow pace to this dynasty. The changes that are proposed are very conservative.

Should this CfJ pass the following should happen:

Add a new rule under “Pace” named “Proposal Limits” with the following text

No more than 30 proposals shall be active at any time.
Should a proposal exceed this limit, it must be failed by an admin mentioning this rule.

Change the following rule from:

During this dynasty, a Townsperson may submit a Proposal unless the Townsperson already has 4 Proposals pending, or has already made 5 Proposals that day.

to:

During this dynasty, a Townsperson may submit a Proposal unless the Townsperson already has 3 Proposals pending, or has already made 4 Proposals that day.

Add a new rule called “Proposal priorites” contains

If there are more than 25 proposals. The oldest proposal is considered to have priority which shall be noted in the side bar as BOLD red text.
Proposals that have priority ignore rule 2.4 and can be acted upon by any provision set in rule 1.5.2

I have considered removing the pace rule entirely but that would most likely overwhelm the admins, while super quorum is helping a little bit, more needs to be done.

In the subrule Autumn/Fall, reword “Any Townsperson may get married if they have never done so and have at least three Moneys.” to the following:-

Any Townsperson may get married if they have never done so and they have at least three Moneys, and if there is at least one Priest.

Let’s just go for it. Should be too hard to achieve, for now.

I think normally marriages are overseen by Priests.

Create a new Dynastic Rule, called “Death and Reincarnation”:

If a Townsperson is in a perilous condition, any Townsperson may (and should) make them die by setting all their variables to the default values, and their Home to “@”.
No Townsperson may make the Astrologer die, except the Astrologer himself.
Perilous conditions are:
- having two or more plagues in one’s Home;
- having one plague in one’s Home when the Season is Winter;
- not having any food (i.e: vegetable, meat or animals) in one’s Home when the Season is Winter;
- having no humans in one’s Home;
- being a farmer or a shepherd while the Weather is Disastrous and there are no Firemen.

In rule Prophecies, change “Once per Season, (but not on Sundays, not if the weather is Rain, and not if the Sky has not yet been examined in the current Season) each Townsperson may make a Prophecy.” to read:

Once per Season, (but not if the weather is Rain, not if their Fate isn’t positive and not if the Sky has not yet been examined in the current Season) each Townsperson may spend one Fate to make a Prophecy.

In its sub-rule Fulfillment, add to the end of the first paragraph:

They shall then increase all Townspeople’s Fate values by one.

Set the Astrologer’s Fate to 3.

The last clause originally read “Set Everybody’s Fate to 1”, but it’s more fun if the Astrologer is the one opening the tap of Fate.

Proposal: Colder Readings

Seasonal Affective Order has failed, this proposal is considered self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 05 Mar 2015 12:56:51 UTC

Dependent on Proposal: Seasonal Affective Order

Add a new rule to the ruleset, entitled Readings:

All Townspersons have a statistic called Fate, which is tracked in the GNDT and which defaults to zero.

Once during each Seasonal Festival period, the Astrologer should make a Readings post, which should take the format of a story post. The Readings post should set out a Prediction for each Constellation in each Sign Position. The Astrologer’s method of making these Readings should not be random, but should also not be made public.

Predictions may require the change, addition or removal of any gamestate value, or may make no requirement at all.

Add the following to the end of the rule entitled “Horoscopes”:

The relative order of Constellations in Birth Signs is significant. A Constellation may occupy one of three Sign Positions, as follows: the first Constellation in any Townsperson’s Birth Sign is their Distaff Sign, the middle Constellation is their Flax Sign and the final Constellation is their Spindle Sign.

Proposal: Seasonal Adjustment

Remove the sentences “At 11.59pm UTC on each Sunday, the Season progresses, changing to the Season listed immediately below the current Season in the list above (or returning to Spring if the current Season is Winter).” and “If this item is inaccurate, any Admin may update it to correctly reflect the current Season.” from the rule “The Almanac”.

To the end of the rule “Workplaces”, add:-

Then, the Townsperson who called the Day of Observance should post a blog entry announcing it, and mentioning the end of the current Season. Within 48 hours of such a blog post, any admin may (if no admin has already done so for this blog post) update the Season in the sidebar, changing it to the Season listed immediately below the current Season in The Almanac (or returning to Spring if the current Season is Winter), and mentioning this in a comment on that blog post.

Upon enactment of this rule, the current Season shall become the Season listed immediately below the current Season in The Almanac (or shall become Spring if the current Season is Winter).

Having Seasons roll over when a Day of Observance is applied, rather than magically on Sunday nights. Because the sidebar can only be updated by admins, we need to either make Day of Observances admin-only (which would give an unfair advantage) or do a little dance of any Townsperson calling the Day and an admin then updating the Season - I’ve gone for the latter.

Proposal: Finding a cure

Reached quorum 10 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 07 Mar 2015 11:41:41 UTC

In the rule “Workplaces” and in between the bullet points “Court” and “Hall”, add the following bullet point:

Healer’s Hut (Healer): Roll XDICE2, where X is the number of Healers. If the result is greater then or equal to the number of Plagues in the homes of all Townpersons, then remove from each home that has 1 or more Plagues and 1 or more Money 1 Plague and 1 Money. If at least 1 Plague has been removed this way, each Healer gains 1 Money.

In the same rule, right before “(The bracketed word after the name of each Workplace is the name given to any Townsperson who has that Workplace.)”, add

If there is no healer, then, for each active Townsperson, with X being 5 plus the number of Plagues of all Townpersons, roll DICEX. If the result is greater then 4, add a Plague to that Townpersons home.

Idea: As the plague spreads, it gets harder and harder to heal, but if several townpersons work together as Healers, it will be handled (and those townpersons gain something from it). Originally I wanted each Healer to have its own DICE-roll, but that would have been too complicated for the one having to do all that, as would have been spreading the money that was lost, which would be cooler, but for the sake of simplicity, each healer just gains 1 in addition to the 1 from the Clerk.

Note that technically, there is a conflict with “Had a Farm”, but the order in which both Proposals are enacted only changes the order of the sentence in the rule “Workplaces”.

Idle me please

I’m suffering from a severe case of apathy.

Proposal: Seeing the sky and checking the weather

Over 48 hours old and, at 4-5, cannot be enacted. Failed by Brendan.

Adminned at 07 Mar 2015 06:01:32 UTC

Add an item to the Blognomic sidebar entitled “The Sky” and an item to the Blognomic sidebar entitled “Forecast”.

In the rule “The Almanac”, replace “The current Season is listed under the item “Current Season” in the sidebar template of the Blognomic blog. If this item is inaccurate, any Admin may update it to correctly reflect the current Season” with:

The current Season, Visible Constellations and Weather Forecast are listed under the items “Current Season”, “The Sky” and “Forecast” in the sidebar template of the Blognomic blog, respectively. If these items are inaccurate, any Admin may update it to correctly reflect the current Season, Visible Constellations and Weather Forecast.

It only makes sense to track the sky and weather on the main site like seasons rather then always having to check the wiki.

Proposal: Monogamous Society

Passes 10-0. Enacted by Brendan.

Adminned at 07 Mar 2015 05:55:47 UTC

In the subrule Autumn/Fall, add a new paragraph with the following text:-

Any Townsperson may get married if they have never done so and have at least three Moneys. When they get married, they must add a Human to their Home if they don’t have a Human in their Home already. If they do already have a Human in their Home, they instead may add a Human to their Home, but they do not have to. They must track that they have gotten married by adding (M) to their Home. Any Townsperson who loses their last Human ceases to be married, if they were married, and loses any instances of (M) in their Home.

Priests can not get married and married Townspersons can not become Priests.

At the end of the Rule “Workplaces”, in a new paragraph, add:-

A Townsperson is Respectable if they are a Teacher or a Priest, or if they are married.

I doubt I am using the GNDT legally (for multiple reasons)

When I say add (M) to their home, I literally mean add (M) with the parentheses included. Hopefully that is more or less standard.

If you marry and divorce under this rule, you can’t remarry yet because divorce is a BIG DEAL

Dependent on Let it Go.

Change the word “Astronomer” to the word “Prophet” throughout the ruleset.

Remove from the rule “Winter” the paragraph beginning “A Favored Proposal may be enacted…”

For each instance of the “They may then comment to this effect on a pending Proposal that they created, which has been open for more than 24 hours. This Proposal becomes Favored.” in the rule Winter, replace it with the text

If no Townsperson has made a Sacrifice in the last 24 hours, that Townsperson becomes the Prophet.

Create a new subrule within the rule “Winter”, “The Prophet”, with the text

At any time, one Townsperson may be the Prophet. The Prophet is tracked by placing a * in the Workplace category of the GNDT (along with any Workplace the Townsperson may have). If a Townsperson becomes the Prophet while a second Townsperson is already the Prophet, the second Townsperson ceases to be the Prophet.

If the Season would change from Winter to Spring, all Townspeople cease to be the Prophet.

Reword the second paragraph in the rule “The Sky” to read

If no Townsperson other than the Prophet has done so during the current Season, the Astrologer or Prophet may examine the Sky by randomly selecting a Constellation from those not currently visible in the Sky, adding it to the above list in the rightmost position, and then removing the leftmost Constellation from that list. The Prophet may only examine the Sky once per Season. (If the Prophet examines the Sky and another Townsperson becomes the Prophet during the same Season, the new Prophet may examine the Sky.)

Making the Prophet a Winter-only keyword with text referencing it in global rules is a little odd, but I don’t think it actually breaks anything.

This rule has no effect unless the current Season is Spring.

If they have not done so during the current Spring, at any time, a Townsperson may Clean, and by doing so remove up to three Things from their Home.

The following Workplace is considered to be listed after the last Workplace in the rule “Workplaces.” A Townsperson may only choose it for their Workplace if all the Constellations of their Birthsign are visible in the Sky.

  • Hedge Hut (Wise One): Each Townsperson with exactly one Human in their Home gains 1 Human.

I hereby call for a Day of Observance

Proposal: Back Again in the DHSS

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 05 Mar 2015 12:28:20 UTC

Apply all ruleset changes proposed by the failed proposal “Back in the DHSS”.

Then, replace the text “If any Townspeople are Feckless, then any Townsperson may give every Feckless Townsperson an Acumen equal to a random number between 1 and 99.” in the ruleset with:-

If any Townspeople are Feckless, then any Townsperson may roll a separate DICE99 for each Feckless Townsperson (in the order that they are listed in the GNDT), and then set each Feckless Townperson’s Acumen to the value rolled for them.

Fix for the earlier proposal’s ambiguous random numbers. (After messing around with contingency and cleanup in case the fix passed before the original proposal, and to prevent anyone scamming the window between the original and the fix, I realised it’d be easier to just kill the original proposal and bolt it on at the top here. Strange times.)

In the same rule, right before “(The bracketed word after the name of each Workplace is the name given to any Townsperson who has that Workplace.)”, add

If there is no Shepherd when the Day of Observance is called, each Townsperson with at least 1 animal looses 1 animal.

This rule has no effect unless the current Season is Winter.

If the Weather Condition in effect is Typical, and it is not Saturday or Sunday, and they have not yet made a Sacrifice in the current Season, and they have at least two Things in their Home, a Townsperson may make a Sacrifice by removing one Animal from their Home. They may then comment to this effect on a pending Proposal that they created, which has been open for more than 24 hours. This Proposal becomes Favored.

If the Weather Condition in effect is Disastrous, and it is not Saturday or Sunday, and they have not yet made a Sacrifice in the current Season, a Townsperson may make a Sacrifice by removing one Human from their Home and gaining one Plague. They may then comment to this effect on a pending Proposal that they created, which has been open for more than 24 hours. This Proposal becomes Favored.

A Favored Proposal may be enacted if it has a number of FOR Votes that exceed or equal Quorum, has been open for voting for at least 24 hours, and has not been Vetoed or Self-Killed. This supersedes the provisions set out in the rule “Pace.”

Dependent on The Weekly Prophet.
Create a new subrule of rule Prophecies, named “The Science of The Future” reading as follows:

The explanations contained in Fulfilled Prophecies are considered Sound.
If at the time of posting all the explanations in a new Prophecy are Sound, and if the event it foresees logically follows the explanations given, then that Prophecy can be posted as a Scientific Prophecy, tagging it as such.
Townspeople should do all they can to make Scientific Prophecies become fulfilled. Townspeople who don’t follow this rule should be Ashamed of Themselves.
Should the event foreseen in a Scientific Prophecy not take place before the first change of Season after the time of its posting, and if the Prophecy is less than 30 days old and is not Paradoxical or Fulfilled, then any Townsperson may and should Comment on it that “The Prophecy is Paradoxical”, thus making it a Paradoxical Prophecy. They shall then add a Plague and a Money to the Home of the Townsperson who made that Prophecy, because Paradoxes are cool but make people’s heads hurt.

I know this is pretty much like playing with fire, but the damage it can do should be limited.

Proposal: No, After You

Reached a Super Quorum, 13 votes to 0, and can be enacted out of sequence. Enacted by Kevan.

Reword “Contingent Proposals” from “If a proposal starts with the text “Dependent on X”, where X is the name of a proposal or a list of proposals, if any of those proposals fails, the Dependent proposal is considered to be Self-Killed.” to:-

If a Proposal (the “Dependent Proposal”) starts with the text “Dependent on X”, where X is the name of a proposal or a list of proposals (the “Higher” proposal or proposals), then:

  • The Dependent Proposal cannot be enacted if any of its Higher Proposals have not been enacted.
  • If any of its Higher proposals have failed, the Dependent proposal is considered to be Self-Killed.

Seems odd that an explicitly Dependent proposal can - with a Super Quorum of votes - actually end up enacting ahead of the Proposals it is depending on.

Any consecutive string of variables (such as XY or XYZ) is considered to be the product of those variables.

If a Quorum of the subset of Townspersons that vote For this Proposal have the word “concatenation” in the comment that has their EVC, then in the Rule “Vocabulary”, create a new bullet point in the list in that rule and have it contain the following text:-

Any consecutive string of single-digit variables (such as XY or XYZ) is considered to be the number that would have those variables as digits in the order that those variables appear.

Decide amongst yourselves…

After the list in the Rule “Workplaces”, add the following:-

Any Townsperson that has a Workplace may throw out their trash by removing X non-Human, non-Plague Things from their Home (Where X is a positive integer). If they do so, they must then roll DICE20 Y times and give themselves a number of Plagues equal to the number of 1s they rolled, where Y is 2X if the Townsperson is a Farmer, Y is 0 if the Townsperson is a Clerk, and Y is X if the Townsperson is neither a Farmer nor a Clerk.

You know all about this Rule by now. Hopefully the technical issues are fixed.

Add a new bullet point to the list in the rule entitled “Vocabulary”:

  • In each week, the period from 12.00am on Saturday Morning to 11.59pm on Sunday Night can be referred to as the Seasonal Festival period.

Add a new rule to the ruleset, entitled Readings:

Once during each Seasonal Festival period, the Astrologer should make a Readings post, which should take the format of a story post. The Readings post should set out a Prediction, derived from the lists contained within this rule, for a Townsperson of having each Constellation in each Sign Position. The Astrologer’s method of making these Readings should not be random, but should also not be made public.

Predictions are made up of Conditions and Impacts. When a Townsperson meets the Condition of a Prediction, or if the Condition for the Prediction is global and has been met, then that Townsperson should implement the Impact upon themselves. Some Predictions will have no Conditions. In those cases, any Townsperson may apply the Impact of that Prediction upon any affected Townspersons.

Predictions are valid only in the Season immediately subsequent to the Reading post in which they were made, and cannot have any impact following the end of that Season.

Possible Conditions are as follows. Where a Condition (or Impact, in the following list) contains a value that is listed as X, then that value may be any legal value as set out in the appropriate section of the Ruleset, as determined by the Astrologer’s method of generating Readings.

  • If the Season is X
  • If the Townsperson [has / has not] a Horoscope that contains Constellation X in X Sign Position
  • If the Weather Condition [is / is not] X
  • If the Townsperson [has / has not] X as a Thing in their House
  • If the Townsperson’s Workplace [is / is not] X
  • If Constellation X [is / is not] currently visible in the sky

Possible Impacts are as follows. Some Impacts can only apply to Constellations appearing in Birth Signs in certain Sign :Positions; in these cases, the Sign Positions to which that Impact can apply follow the text of the Impact in bold and in brackets.

  • Has no effect.
  • Should gain X as a Thing for their House
  • Should lose X as a Thing from their House, if they have it
  • May change their workplace to X
  • May not have the effect of their Workplace applied in the next Day of Observance
  • Shall face a Trial Flax

The last two lists need a lot of embellishing. Trials are the idea of something that has a real-world element, which I’m still turning over in my head - but if anyone has any ideas about that I welcome them.

Back to the old Astrology coalface

Apologies again for my unexpected absence. I’m now in the contrary position - I have WAY too much internet-enabled leisure time in front of me - so this is just a heads up that I’ll be reassuming my duties from now.

As such, I’m removing rule 2.5 from the ruleset. My sincere thanks to the Astronomer for having kept an eye on things in my absence.

If every Townsperson has a Vegetable, an Animal, and a Furniture, and the Season is Spring, and the Weather Condition is not Disastrous, and there are at least two Smiths, and no Townsperson has done so yet this Season, any Townsperson may Declare War.

If a Townsperson could Declare a War and there are at least three Priests, they may instead Declare a Holy War if no Townsperson has done so yet this Season.

Crush! Smash!

Didn’t Josh mention something about the motivation of our village being to prepare itself during this time of peace for the next time of not peace?

Proposal: Back in the DHSS

In the rule “Workplaces”, add a new paragraph after the first:

Each Townsperson without a Workplace may have an Acumen, tracked as a number in the Workplace field. If any Townsperson has neither a Workplace nor an Acumen, they are considered Feckless. If any Townspeople are Feckless, then any Townsperson may give every Feckless Townsperson an Acumen equal to a random number between 1 and 99.

Then replace “If no Townsperson has done so during the current Season, and if at least a Quorum of Townspeople have Workplaces, then any Townsperson may call a Day of Observance.” with:-

If every Townsperson has a Workplace, then any Townsperson may call a Day of Observance.

Remove the Bailiff role, and add to that rule:

Then, the Townsperson who called the Day of Observance removes the Workplace and Acumen of every Townsperson.

Reproposal of Dole Queue requiring Acumen to be set all at once or not at all, flipping it so high is first rather than low is first, and detaching it from triggering a Season change.

Proposal: Working From Home

Passes 12-1. Enacted by Brendan.

Adminned at 07 Mar 2015 05:33:58 UTC

Add to the beginning of the rule “Homes” the text

For the purposes of this rule, the Astrologer is considered to be a Townsperson.

Add to the end of the rule “Homes” the text

The first two of each type of Thing in a Townsperson’s Home are natural Things; the other Things in a Townsperson’s Home are excess Things.

Add to the bulleted list in the rule “Homes”

• W: Workroom.

Add to the beginning of the bulleted list in the rule “Workplaces”

• Transportation (Laborer): Each Laborer with a Workroom in their Home loses their Workroom. Each Laborer without a Workroom in their Home gains a Workroom.

Enact a new rule, “Workrooms”:

Townspeople may not have more than one Workroom; if a Townsperson ever would have more than one Workroom, the other Workrooms are moved to the Astrologer’s Home. If a Townsperson has a Workplace and a Workroom, the Workplace is considered an Indoor Workplace.

Indoor Workplaces take up a lot of space. If a Townsperson has an Indoor Workplace, any player may move excess Things to the Astrologer’s Home.

Enact a new rule, “Weather Consequences”:

If the Weather Conditions are Snow, then if a Townsperson doesn’t have an Indoor Workplace, they are treated as if they have no Workplace.

In the rule “Workplaces”, at the beginning of the list of Workplaces, enter the following as a new first bullet point:

Pasture (Shepherd): If there are no Shepherds, each Townperson with at least 1 animal loose 1 animal. If it is Spring and if at least a quarter of the Townspersons, rounded up, are Shepherds, each Townperson with at least 2 animals gain an animal.

Cattle needs Care.

Proposal: The Weekly Prophet

Passes 11-1. Enacted by Brendan.

Adminned at 07 Mar 2015 05:31:29 UTC

Create a new Dynastic rule, titled “Prophecies”, reading as follows:

“Once per Season, (but not on Sundays, not if the weather is Rain, and not if the Sky has not yet been examined in the current Season) each Townsperson may make a Prophecy.
A Prophecy is a Story post in which an event is foreseen to happen, based on the state of the Sky at time of posting.
Its title must start with the tag “[Prophecy]”.
It must include a detailed explanation as to how the current conditions of the Sky can be interpreted in that way.

(for example, a legal Prophecy could read:
“Behold the Greater Triangle shining brightly on the Left, this is a clear sign that a Townsperson with that Constellation in their birthsign is destined to do something.
And see, there! the Eel next to the Toad, an omen of failure!
I foresee that, before the end of Summer, a Townsperson with the Greater Triangle in their birthsign will have one of their Proposals Failed.”)

Prophecies may not mention Townpeople’s names nor Calls for Judgment.

Fulfillment
Should the event foreseen in a Prophecy actually take place before the first change of Season after the time of its posting, and if the Prophecy is less than 10 days old, any Townsperson may Comment on it that “The Prophecy is Fulfilled”, thus making it a Fulfilled Prophecy.
It is recommended that a list of Fulfilled Prophecies is kept somewhere in the wiki.

Proposal: The new Proposal :/

Illegal proposal: ayesdeeef already had four pending proposals. -Purplebeard

Adminned at 02 Mar 2015 15:30:31 UTC

In a new paragraph in the Rule “Horoscopes” add the following:-

Birthsigns’ Constellations are connected to Weather Conditions if they are next to the same number in the Ruleset (The Eel is connected to Sun, The Bee is connected to Rain, etc.) Each Townsperson is Energized(X) where X is the number of Constellations in the Townsperson’s Birthsign that are connected to the Weather Condition that is in effect.

After the list in the Rule “Workplaces”, add the following:-

Any Townsperson that has a Workplace may throw out their trash by removing X non-Human, non-Plague Things from their Home (Where X is a positive integer). If they do so, they must then roll YDICE20 and give themselves a number of Plagues equal to the number of 1s they rolled, where Y is 2X if the Townsperson is a Farmer, Y is 0 if the Townsperson is a Clerk, and Y is X if the Townsperson is neither a Farmer nor a Clerk.

In the Rule Workplaces, change “If it is Autumn, and if there are three Farmers, then each Townsperson gains one Vegetable.” to the following:-

If it is Autumn, and if there are exactly three or four Farmers, then each Townsperson gains one Vegetable.

In the Rule “Vocabulary”, create a new bullet point in the list in that rule. Have it contain the following text:-

Any consecutive string of variables (such as XY or XYZ) is considered to be the product of those variables.

In a new paragraph in the Rule “Horoscopes” add the following:-

Birthsigns’ elements are connected to Weather Conditions if they are next to the same number in the Ruleset (The Eel is connected to Sun, The Bee is connected to Rain, etc.) Each Townsperson is Energized(X) where X is the number of elements in the Townsperson’s Birthsign that are connected to the Weather Condition that is in effect.

Any Townsperson that has a Workplace may throw out their trash by removing X non-Human, non-Plague Things from their Home (Where X is a positive integer). Any consecutive string of variables (such as XY or XYZ) is considered to be the product of those variables.

Birth-signs can determine personality traits like what kind of weather you like.

The flavor for why a Townsperson needs a workplace to take out the trash is because otherwise they are too lazy.

The reason there need to be exactly 3 or 4 farmers is because if there are too many farmer the land isn’t used as (it is overused, there is more competition amongst the different farms (potentially running them into the ground) and also their is less potential for mono-cropping) so it is more practical to have a moderate number of members in the society devoted to farming and the rest can work in IT.

Product means you multiply the numbers together.

In the rule “The Sky” change:

If no Townsperson has done so during the current Season

to

If the Astrologer has not done so during this season

Add the following to the end of the rule:

A townsperson may request to have the constellations read by making a post requesting it.

The astrologer has only one purpose in this case and seeing as how the townsperson is mentioned only once in the entire rule, we need to change the wording a little bit.

In the rule “Horoscopes”, replace “Each Townsperson has a Birth Sign, which is tracked in the GNDT.” with:-

Each Townsperson has a Birth Sign, which is tracked in the GNDT as a space-separated list of the final words of those Signs, in order.

Shortening the field. The GNDT sidebar is looking quite tall, now that it has four columns.
