Proposal: Neuron Victory

3 to 3 after 4 days. Cannot be enacted. Failed by Derrick.

Adminned at 03 Apr 2017 17:46:53 UTC

Add the following at the end of rule “Endgames”:

If an Organ that is part of a Creature has achieved victory, and that Creature has another Organ with the title of Neuron, that other Organ has achieved victory instead.

Proposal: Parasites

5 to 0 after 48 hours. Enacted by Derrick

Adminned at 01 Apr 2017 23:54:32 UTC

Add the following item at the end of the list of states appearing on rule “Anatomy”:

Parasite: If a Creature contains one and only one Parasite, that Organ has the title Neuron, and all other Organs in that Creature do not. This takes presedence over all rules that determine which Organs have the title of Neuron.

Proposal: Open Borders

4 to 2 after 48 hours. Enacted by Derrick

Adminned at 01 Apr 2017 23:49:01 UTC

In the rule “Anatomy”, change:

The Nymph can ask to merge with another Creature which is on its same cell, by making a blog post to reflect this - this post is a Merge Request. Once 2 or more Organs that are part of the Creature the Merge Request is directed at state in a comment that they Welcome the Nymph, the Nymph becomes part of their Creature, and its state changes to Amorphous.

Proposal: Bookkeeping

Reached Quorum 6 to 1. Enacted by Derrick.

Add to the rule “Egg clusters”:

Egg clusters changed into medusae are not removed from the list of egg clusters, but their location is no longer tracked on the map or in the table. The egg cluster is not considered to be anywhere in the habitat at that point, though the medusa is.

add to the list of data egg clusters track:

Name: When an egg cluster is changed to a medusa, put the name of the medusa here.

Proposal: A squarer meal

Quorums 7-0. No EVCs contain “lunchtime’s over”. — Quirck

Adminned at 30 Mar 2017 13:00:25 UTC

In “Nutrients”, replace

As a weekly action, the Statolith may add two secretly random Nutrients to each Organ. If this would bring the number of nutrients in any organ over the limit of what they may carry, the surplus nutrients must be transferred to that organ’s creature’s supply.

with:

As a weekly action, the Statolith may add, to each Creature’s supply, two of each Nutrient per Organ belonging to that Creature.

If a quorum of EVCs for this Proposal contain the text “lunchtime’s over”, remove the above text from the Ruleset.

I imagine randomizing two nutrients per organ is a hassle, and only two is a pittance. We might as well make it simpler and useful (or if it’s gone, a tiny bit more useless).

In “Anatomy”, in the bullet point for “Nymph”:
- Replace “Once 3 or more Organs that are part of the Creature” with “Once 2 or more Organs that are part of the Creature”.
- Replace “and also name at least two other Nymphs that share” with “and also name at least one other Nymph that shares”.

In “Creatures”, replace “If a creature has less than three organs” with “If a creature has less than two organs”.

Shrinking minimum creature size from 3 to 2. As people idle out we’re getting to potentially dangerous territory. The barrier to entry being lower may also encourage joining.

If there are no creatures, and 48 hours have passed since a creature last ceased to exist, any Nymph located on an Habitat cell that has less than four adjacent cells can leave the Habitat by spending one resource of each type. The first Organ that does so has achieved victory.

Proposal: Satisfying, not Satistied

Proposal: Creature Victory

Quorums 1-5. — Quirck

Adminned at 27 Mar 2017 09:58:32 UTC

Add a new rule, “Creature Victory”:

A creature may be said to achieve Creature Victory. If an organ believes that a creature has achieved Creature Victory, they may make a Creature Declaration of Victory (or CDoV), which is a Declaration of Victory that is explicitly noted to be on behalf of that specific creature. At the time when this CDoV would have been enacted if it were an ordinary DoV, the enacting Organ must use the GNDT to choose a random Organ from that creature. The enactment of the CDoV then continues as if that random Organ had made the Declaration of Victory.

Proposed edits to this very welcome. Anything with DoVs is playing with fire but I think we can contain the fire successfully.

Proposal: Even less free lunch

Quorums 5-1. — Quirck

Adminned at 27 Mar 2017 09:58:10 UTC

In rule Nutrients remove the line that reads:

An Organ may give some of their nutrients to its creature’s supply at any time by changing the GNDT to reflect so. Any gift of nutrients to its creature’s supply decreases the hunger mood of the gifting Organ’s Creature by the number of nutrients given, as long as the hunger is above or equal to 0. If a gift of nutrients would cause hunger to become less than 0, it instead becomes 0.

If I read this correctly, an Organ can take 3 nutrients from their creature without increasing hunger, then put them back into the creature to lower hunger. If kept, it makes hunger irrelevant. Rather than proposing a fix, I propose to remove it since you can already transfer nutrients to another organ if needed.

Proposal: No free lunch

Change the bullet point beginning with “Egg Sack” in the “Anatomy” rule to:

Egg Sack: An egg sack may spend one of each nutrient listed in Nutrients to lay an egg cluster in the cell the creature is in, if that cell contains no neighbors that are not seaweed and the organ’s creature’s satisfaction level is Fulfilled. Its state is unfertilized, it has no fathers yet, its cell is the current cell, and its mother is the organ that laid it. Laying an egg cluster fulfills Procreation Drive.

Change the bullet point beginning with “Dart Sack” to:

Dart Sack: An organ in this state may, as a daily action, consume one nutrient to fertilize an egg cluster in the state of “unfertilized” that is in the same location as that organ’s creature if the organ’s creature’s satisfaction level is Fulfilled. No organ may fertilize an egg cluster of which it is the mother. When an organ fertilizes an egg cluster, that organ’s name is added as a father to that egg cluster. Fertilizing an egg cluster fulfills Procreation Drive.

If egg laying and fertilizing must be the victory condition, we should have to satisfy needs to do it.

Enact a rule called “Endgames”

An organ with 12 posterity points,  and more posterity points than any other organ, has achieved victory.

If a Majority of EVCs contain the text “fair start”, remove all egg clusters from play, place an eel in the great crevice, and start the numbers for egg clusters at 1 again.

I think the time is ripe to start the scoring. Sorry for the loss Card, but I think its the only way to really be fair about things. Yes, I said a majority, not a quorum. That’s very intentional—a pass of 7 to 1 with 5 “fair start” comments should be considered sufficient.

In “Nutrients” change the paragraph starting with “The statolith may store any number of nutrients it is given.” with

Each Creature has a “supply” of nutrients. This is tracked in a “supply” field in the GNT on an organ belonging to that creature. It doesn’t matter which organ within a creature has the supply listed. These are tracked in the GNDT as the first letter of those nutrients, followed by the number of those nutrients stored. (eg. a supply with two units of Blonium and one of Nonium would track this as “b2g0n1m0”.)

Under “Anatomy” change “they along with the petitioning Nymph become part of a new Creature with the name in the Petition, and their states become amorphous.” to

they along with the petitioning Nymph become part of a new Creature with the name in the Petition, and their states become amorphous. The petitioning Nymph has the title of Neuron.

Make a new rule titled “Creature Voting” and add the following text

On proposals organs can cast a vote with “[xxx]” where xxx is the name of the creature they are in. Their vote becomes valid and the same as the Neuron of their creature when the Neuron casts a valid vote.

For each nutrient in a creature’s supply, assign it to the value of n*(p/a) rounded up. ‘n’ is equal to the number of nutrients currently in the statolith, ‘p’ is the number of organs assigned to that creature and ‘a’ is the number of organs assigned to a creature.

Then set the statolith’s nutrients to ‘-’

in Moods, Habitat, and all paragraphs of Nutrients that don’t start with “As a weekly action”, replace all instances of “the statolith” with “its creature’s supply”

Trying to bring back derrick’s proposal with my own twist.

These are tracked in the GNDT as the first letter of those nutrients, followed by the number of those nutrients stored. Per some discussion on separating depression by creature. This:
(1) makes gathering ambient nutrients a per-creature basis, but
(2) makes it so you need a Gut to actually gain them, and
(3) clarifies who, if anyone gets the nutrients for fulfilling hunger given that it’s a communal action (I assumed it’s the Organ who’s willing to take on the paperwork of doing the gathering but it’s currently ambiguous)

Call for Judgment: Punish Cuddlebeam for putting the game into Hiatus

Under the rule Fair Play, it says:

An Organ should not make a DoV primarily to delay the game by putting it into Hiatus.

And:

If any of these rules are found to have been broken, or if an Organ’s behaviour or actions are otherwise deemed unacceptable (socially or otherwise), a proposal or CfJ may be made to reprimand or punish the perpetrator or, in cases of extreme or repeated violations, remove them from the game and bar them from rejoining.

As Cuddlebeam has stated that they had no intention of making an Ascension Address and merely intended to hand the game back over to Viv in order to continue the current dynasty, it seems clear that their DoV was meant only to delay the game to prove some sort of non-existent point.  Since this is far from the first upset that Cuddlebeam has caused this dynasty, I propose the following:

Idle Cuddlebeam.

Add a rule entitled “Cuddlebeam’s Punishment” with the text:

The Organ named Cuddlebeam may not unidle during the First Dynasty of Viv.

We can make card’s suggested change to the rules later - since CFJs don’t necessarily get enacted in order I want to wait until that one is failed first.

Call for Judgment: No Spam Please

Cuddlebeam’s post https://blognomic.com/archive/explanation2 is arguably spam under the “Fair Play” rule

An Organ should not “spam” the BlogNomic blog. What counts as spamming is subjective, but would typically include posting more than ten blog entries in a day, more than ten blog comments in a row, or posting a blog entry of more than 1000 words.

Whose content is at around 1100 words long.

As punishment, do the following:
Set the gamestate to the values it had at March 20th 2017 08:46:00 UTC

Then idle Cuddlebeam for at least 2 days.

Explanation

I’m making this Victory attempt because after mentioning that I could do something like this at the Ganglion, an attempt to stop it has been made, and if it continues, I fear that I can’t perform this at all. I’m getting paranoid lol. Admittedly, it was my fault for mentioning it at all in the first place, and people have mentioned that they’d prefer to see it too already. If I don’t achieve victory with this, I will ask to idle myself, as a self-timeout for being so hyperactive, because I kinda should. If I do win though, I’ll repeal no Dynastic Rules, and pass the mantle onto Viv, if she’s willing, so that this Dynasty can continue as it has until now as usual, and then idle myself regardless, but with the win.

So, onto it.

-HOW DID I WIN?-

A good part isn’t obvious with casual reading - don’t miss out! This explanation will be separated into three parts: CREATING “ENACTED” VOTABLE MATTERS WITH NO VOTES, CREATING A VOTABLE MATTER WITH NO DEFINED STARTING VALUE and the APPENDIX. If either of the first two parts fail, the entire procedure is likely to fail as well.

-CREATING “ENACTED” VOTABLE MATTERS WITH NO VOTES-

In “Clarifications”, in “Numbers and Variables” it says

If a game variable has no defined starting value, then that starting value is the nearest legal value to zero that it may take (for numerical variables, defaulting to positive if tied), blank (for a text string or list that may be blank), the alphabetically earliest legal text string it may take (for a text string which may not be blank, with the digits 0 through 9 considered to precede “A”), or the list which is alphabetically earliest from the set of lists with the fewest elements (for lists which may not be blank, and considering each list to be a single unpunctuated text string, with the digits 0 through 9 considered to precede “A”).

In Votable Matters, it says:

Votable Matters can either be Pending, Enacted, or Failed. When a Votable Matter is first put forward, it is considered Pending.

If I could somehow create a Votable Matter that wasn’t the first time it was put forwards, yet it doesn’t have a defined starting value when it becomes such, it would take “the alphabetically earliest legal text string it may take”, from “Pending, Enacted, or Failed”.

Which is Enacted. E comes before F and before P.

With that established, we’re going to somehow create an “Enacted” Votable Matter via that.

For that, we’ll need to study the “Gamestate Tracking” rules, detailed in the following:

-CREATING A VOTABLE MATTER WITH NO DEFINED STARTING VALUE-

In the “Gamestate Tracking” rules, we have:

An official post may be altered or removed by its author if it is less than six hours old and either no Organ has commented on it or all comments on it contain no voting icons; otherwise this can only be done as allowed by the Ruleset.

So, if I make a CfJ Official Post, has that CfJ been put forwards? Yes, because I posted it. If I alter that CfJ Official Post (within the legal window), into a DoV Official Post, has that DoV been put forwards? Yes, because it was altered from a CfJ to a DoV. So I’ve put forwards a CfJ (which doesn’t exist anymore, but that “was put forwards”), and a DoV. We can then conclude that changing the categories of an official post, it a way of effectively “putting forwards” that particular instance of its new category. Eg. Changing a CfJ into a DoV is “putting forwards” a DoV.

...Or changing the Categories of an official post isn’t “putting forwards” that particular DoV/CfJ/etc, in which case, it hasn’t been “put forwards” for the first time, because it hasn’t been put forwards at all. So it doesn’t have a defined initial value granted by “When a Votable Matter is first put forward, it is considered Pending.”, nor any other rule.  Thus, it would default to “Enacted” because it’s the alphabetically first value it can take because it’s undefined, so this works anyway.

Now, assuming that changing the category of a post is “putting forward” that CfJ/DoV/etc (whatever new Votable Matter type it becomes), or this works anyway,  if I alter that same Official post back to a CfJ, and then back to a DoV, I would’ve put forwards that same DoV a second time, because “putting forwards” happens when you change the category, as found previously. Since putting a DoV which has been put forwards a second time has no defined initial value (“DoVs that are put forth a first time” has a defined starting value, but “DoV’s that are put forth a second time” don’t have a starting value for their Enacted/Failed/Pending status), it defaults to Enacted. You could argue that it inherits the “Pending” status of the first time it was “put forwards”, but that doesn’t exist as a trait defined in the ruleset, however granting “the alphabetically earliest legal text string it may take” does.

So it gains the “alphabetically earliest legal text string it may take”, which is “Enacted”. The post is also a DoV, and therefore, I have an Enacted DoV (yet not Adminned, because it didn’t go through Admins to get Enacted, which it why it looks the way it does).  And so, with

When a DoV is enacted, all other active DoVs are failed, and a new Dynasty begins with the Organ who made the DoV as its Statolith.

...I guess it’s time for a new Dynasty.

As mentioned, I’ll repeal no Dynastic Rules, and pass the mantle onto Viv, if she’s willing, so that this Dynasty can continue as it has until now as usual. I’ll post screenshots of the revision history of my DoV/CfJ/DoV shortly, to prove that I’ve effectively done the procedure I’ve mentioned.

-APPENDIX-

Given that if acknowledged that my DoV is effectively an already-enacted DoV, then all of your comments or votes (even if they’re FOR, not that it matters though for the sake of it being actually enacted) are technically illegal, because

Comments cannot be made on Enacted or Failed Votable Matters.

Which creates a beautiful example of a quirk of Consensus Reality (which is, only what the consensus deems to be real in the Nomic, is real. And in this case, it reveals that it not only affects the formal field of things such as votes, but the informal as well, as I’ll need with the following). I’ll take the votes on the DoV as an informal poll for that you acknowledge that I’ve effectively won, and act accordingly.

This has been a pretty long post, thank you reading all of this. I appreciate it.

Call for Judgment: Conditioned Victory

Quorum voting against, failed 1 vote to 6. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 20 Mar 2017 21:12:26 UTC

Under the rule “Victory and Ascension” add to the list of conditions on which a DoV may be failed, the following:

It has been open for voting for at least 20 minutes and there are no conditions for victory within the Dynastic Rules.

Right now anyone can make a DoV and have it stall out the game for at least 12 hours, at any point in the game. Of course this might be covered by by the fair play rule, but this should streamline it.

Proposal: Aggregation Request

Reached quorum 6-0. Enacted by card

Adminned at 21 Mar 2017 00:26:22 UTC

In “Anatomy”, add at the end of the bullet point for “Nymphs” (if possible, making this a new paragraph within the bullet point):

A Nymph may make a Petition to Aggregate as a blog post. The Petition must give a legal and unused Creature name and also name at least two other Nymphs that share the same location as the petitioning Nymph. Once all of the Nymphs named in a valid Petition agree to aggregate by commenting “I’m in” on the Petition, they along with the petitioning Nymph become part of a new Creature with the name in the Petition, and their states become amorphous. A Petition becomes invalid 24 hours after it was made.

Proposal: Non-invasive scamming

Self Killed. failed by card
Self-killing changes the status of the proposal when the author votes against, regardless of later changes to their votes. So even though the author has been idled it still retains the status of self killed.

Adminned at 21 Mar 2017 00:19:40 UTC

Add a section called “Non-invasive scamming.”

Within it, add:

An Organ may propose a CfJ where they detail a series of actions they could hypothetically perform (for the purpose of this procedure, that series of actions may also be known as the “Scam”), along any justifications and defense in favor of why that series of actions would work, as well as the effects such a series of actions would cause. Those effects, for the purpose of this procedure, are the “Scam’s Effects”. Then, that CfJ’s proposed gamestate or ruleset change would be the Scam’s Effects - so if the CfJ succeeds, the Scam has been deemed to be correct, and the Scam’s Effects can be carried out.

Attempting to perform a Scam (or a similar series of actions) revealed via such a CfJ while it is still Pending can be considered to be against Fair Play, as this CfJ’s purpose is to allow for an Organ to perform a scam in a courteous way, not a public announcement for everyone to be able to steal that Organ’s scam idea. Note that this only applies while that CfJ is Pending.

Upturning the game every time I want to pull a large scam is annoying. Currently, scams can only be deemed correct or incorrect a posteriori, which would mean that if the scam involves nuking everything, I would need to nuke everything and then wait for someone to CfJ against that (if at all, but with scams it nearly always happens), to deem that eccentricity legally correct or incorrect.

And that’s annoying for everyone lol.

So with this, I would only need to detail how the scam would be done, not necessarily potentially nuke everything and wait for a possible CfJ to judge it, in order to perform it. It’s a QoL proposal.

Proposal: We can’t all be neurotypical, Karen

Reached quorum 7 votes to 0 with 5 “reset please"s. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 20 Mar 2017 21:08:25 UTC

Add to the end of the “Satisfaction” subrule of the “Moods” rule:

If a creature has a Satisfaction Level of Depressed, Organs must consume twice as many nutrients as stated in order to perform actions described in the Anatomy rule.

Add “Procreation Drive” to the list of moods in the “Moods” rule.

Add the following to the end of the bullet point beginning with “Egg Sack” in the “Anatomy” rule:

Laying an egg cluster fulfills Procreation Drive.

Add the following to the end of the bullet point beginning with “Choanocyte” in the “Anatomy” rule:

Fertilizing an egg cluster fulfills Procreation Drive.

Replace the last paragraph of the “Moods” rule before the “Satisfaction” subrule with

If an action fulfills a mood and that mood is not the highest or tied for highest of that creature’s mood’s, or all moods are zero or less, then the organ’s creature’s satisfaction level decreases by 1.

Set Procreation Drive to 0.

If the majority of comments on this proposal containing valid votes also contain the text “reset please”, set all Moods whose value is less than 0 to 0.

Everything’s harder when you’re depressed.  Adds incentive to become a Gland and increase moods.  Also should make it harder to spam actions, should that become possible in actuality, since either the creature will quickly become depressed and require twice as many nutrients (and egg laying becomes impossible), or the spammer will have to spend some nutrients becoming a Gland and increasing appropriate moods anyway.

The Statolith speaks, gently

Beautiful Organs.

In this dynasty, I will from now on tend to veto the following, without spite or malice, in the name of balance.

Vast, baroque proposals. It’s not much fun looking for loopholes that arrive ready-drilled in a massive block of rules. Try making smaller proposals. There are many of us, and I feel it is keeping some of us from proposing rules to continuously wade through those sprawling tangles.

Proposals that are thrown out unfinished to be endlessly discussed and reshaped. This dynasty has a strong collaborative element, but this is again locking out anyone who is not following all the discussion threads, and it is creating unpleasant undercurrents socially. You propose, someone votes, that’s what happened.

Proposals design to tease an individual. By all means, it is part of Blognomic to target an individual in the game, and there are complex mechanisms at work around that. But if I feel it’s done in bad spirit, I will veto.

There will be balance.

If a quorum of the valid For votes have the text “themed” then change the text “may optionally specify that the terms Organ and Statolith” to

may optionally specify that the terms Combo (if it exists), Organ and Statolith

Under “Keywords” add the following definition before the “Can” definition, formatted like the others

Action: An act that a player does which changes the gamestate. Players updating the gamestate or representations of the gamestate to reflect automatic changes are not taking actions.

Add a rule titled “Combo”
Under it add the following text

Anytime an organ wants to do 4 or more non-atomic Dynastic actions within an hour, they may choose in leui of doing all of those actions separately to make a “Combo” blog post (which can’t be edited after posting) numbering and detailing the order of their actions and any changes to the gamestate and initial value of anything changed in the gamestate in those steps. Any steps that result in a random outcome must be before making the Combo with a note referring to which step in the Combo it is for. Random actions for this purpose can only be taken once per step of the combo and they do not count as being taken until said Combo is posted to the blog. They may then adjust the gamestate and anything that represents the gamestate to reflect the final results. If any action in the blog post is in error or results in an invalid gamestate, they must do the actions in reverse order and value. For the purposes of this rule, making a Combo does not count as an action. As an example, if the author of a Combo were to accidentally make an illegal action of transferring one Organ’s resource to themselves, doing the opposite would be to transfer that same resource to the Organ they got it from.

If a player for whom this is mandatory accidentally does four actions separatly within one hour starting from the first action without making a Combo, they must make a Combo within 30 minutes of the last action, detailing what they did. If they do not then those actions are reversed and never happened.

I’m not sure if the definition of actions are necessary but Kevan said something about it in my other proposal. It is not mandatory for any player but I added what would happen if it were, in case someone tried to make it mandatory for any number of people.
Also note that my comment does inherently contain the text themed.

Add a section called “Endgames” if it hasn’t been added already. Within it, add the following, if it hasn’t been added already:

An Organ can achieve Victory via one of the following Win Conditions if the date is March 25th 2017 or later.

As a bullet in that section, add:

Deep One’s Heart Win Condition: If a Nymph is at the Deep One’s Heart, that Nymph has achieved Victory.

In Habitat, add a section called The Deep One:

Cell G1 of the Habitat is named Deep One’s Heart, and it cannot contain anything except Nymphs and Creatures. Cell F1 is named Tentacle 1, Cell G2 is named Tentacle 2. F1 and G2 can contain a Deep One’s Tentacle as a Feature, and cannot contain any other Feature.

To the list of bullets after “The following Terrain Features are known to exist:”, add the following as a bullet:

Deep One’s Tentacle: (represented as [DOT: x HP], where x is the amount of Hit Points it has). A Deep One’s Tentacle has Hit Points (also called HP), which start at 5. Each time a Mobile Neighbor is moved onto the location where a Deep One’s Tentacle exists, that Neighbor is removed from play, and this feature’s HP is reduced by 1. Once this feature’s HP is reduced to 0, this feature is removed from play. Creatures and Nymphs cannot move onto locations that contain a Deep One’s Tentacle

In “Map of the Habitat”, change G1 to “Deep One’s Heart”, F1 to “Tentacle 1”, and G2 to “Tentacle 2”. Add a “Deep One’s Tentacle” as a feature to F1 and G2.

If at the moment of this proposal’s enactment, a Creature or a Nymph’s Location is G1, F1 or G2, place them at the Sea of Eden instead. (Unlikely to happen, but just in case).

An alternative to just being egg factories, and something a larger team can collaborate with to try to win, in case splitting happens.

Protonymph Win Condition: If an Organ at any time has 10 Protonymphs or more, and that Organ has more Protonymphs than the rest, they have achieved victory.

Add to the Medusa bullet in “Neighbors”:

A Medusa can have Fathers and Mothers. A Medusa’s Fathers and Mothers are the Fathers and Mothers of the Egg Cluster they originated from. Medusas have Protonymphs, 4 Protonymphs from its Mother, and the Father/s have 1 for each time they Fertilized it.

Call for Judgment: Oracular Rufio Issue.

Fails 1-7. — Quirck

Adminned at 20 Mar 2017 07:09:56 UTC

It’s come to my attention that Oracular Rufio persistently invests a significant portion of his efforts on BlogNomic towards harassing me, mocking me, or inciting others to do so. I believe that these actions don’t constitute sportsmanlike Nomic play. Instead, he is using the tools provided to attempt to grief me, and that the extent of him doing this has gone beyond the scope of being simple jest. And I’m honestly very uncomfortable with how far its going.

Examples of his efforts in this regard is the proposal “Time Out” to mock my CfJ activity, his multiple comments to attempt to incite others to join him in harassing me, for example In https://blognomic.com/archive/lest_the_gndt_be_filled_with_more_minuscule_text

I would be in favor of a version where this is mandatory only for Cuddlebeam.

This should work right?

Voting On Your Own Votable Matters

I’ve noticed that many Organs seem to have an aversion to voting on their own votable matters. Certainly discussing some flaws while it can be edited is fine and on proposals if you vote against it you self-kill the proposal; however I’ve noticed that a lot of the proposals are not voted FOR by their authors. Is there any reason for this? Quorum does include the author of said proposal so it’s not out of the question that some proposals have had to wait longer in the queue because they were one vote short.
Is it maybe a social thing that I missed out on?

A reminder of some of the rules since certain people seem not to want to read them this dynasty

Eggs cannot be laid in cells with neighbors.  Mussels (along with most other neighbors) are immobile and cannot be stung.  Stingers require blonium and not micronium.  Thank you for your time.

Failed for not making any changes to game state or ruleset by Derrick

Adminned at 17 Mar 2017 17:56:03 UTC

So the Beak rules say “[...]an Organ belonging to that Creature that is in the Beak state may consume one Micronium to add 3 Nonium and 3 Blonium to the Statolith’s nutrients[...]”, and the current Ruleset says (erroneously) that “These nutrients are Blonium, Gonium, Nonium and Micronium.”

My original proposal said “These nutrients are Blonium, Gonium, Nonium and Miconium.”

Micro = / = Mico

It’s all a bit of a mess. There are likely more and it would be a pain in the ass to dredge though everything. So, with this proposal:

Retroactively, all instances of “Micronium” are synonymous to “Miconium”, and all instances of the term “Miconium” in the ruleset will be replaced to “Micronium”.

Yes its a copy of that same CfJ. Again. I know.

Last CfJ for this issue failed due to a timeout today (March 17th) despite having enough votes to pass two days ago (15th of March was the last vote, Viv’s vote: https://blognomic.com/archive/common_typo_fix_mico_micro_micro_preference#comments and the total should 8 votes, not 7 as admin’d, because my vote is FOR by default because “Additionally, if the author of a Votable Matter has not used a valid voting icon in a comment to the post, then the author’s Vote is FOR.”).

But oh well, it can be fixed. Let’s give it another go.

Create a new rule called “Cuddlebeam Moratorium” with the text:

“Days Without Cuddlebeam CFJs” is a non-negative integer that is tracked on the Map of the Habitat page as “X Days since last incident” where X is Days Without Cuddlebeam CFJs.  As a daily communal action, any Organ may increase Days Without Cuddlebeam CFJs by 1.  When the Organ called Cuddlebeam makes a post in the Call For Judgement category, Days Without Cuddlebeam CFJs becomes 0.

If Days Without Cuddlebeam CFJs is greater than 15, Organs may change state at any time without consuming a nutrient.

Reached Quorum 7 to 1. Enacted by Derrick

If the proposal “Clean your plate” has not passed, change the “Beak” bullet point in the “Anatomy” rule to

Beak: As a daily action, if a Creature is in a Location that also contains a Reef and at least one Organ belonging to that Creature has the Ocellus state, an Organ belonging to that Creature that is in the Beak state may consume one Micronium to add 3 Nonium and 3 Blonium to the Statolith’s nutrients. This action fulfills Hunger.

Remove the sentence “gathering ambient nutrients reduces hunger by 2 for every five nutrients added to the statolith.” from the “Habitat” rule.

Replace the sentence after “Actions can “fulfill” a creature’s moods.” in the “Moods” rule with

If an action fullfills a mood, and that mood is the highest or tied for the highest of that creature’s moods and is greater than zero, that mood decreases by one, and the organ may take up to 2 nutrients from the statolith, if the statolith has them, and its creature’s Satisfaction Level increases by 1.

Eating and gathering ambient nutrients don’t need to explicitly reduce hunger anymore, now that they are properly defined as “fulfulling hunger”, which will reduce hunger in appropriate situations.  Also, we don’t want to be able to fulfill moods when all moods are zero.

Proposal: Burrowing

Self Killed. Failed by Derrick.

Adminned at 17 Mar 2017 18:02:03 UTC

Within “Egg Clusters”, add a section called “Burrowing”. Within it, add:

Egg Clusters can be in a Burrowed status, and are not in that status by default. Burrowed Egg Clusters are privately tracked by the Statolith instead of the Map Habitat, and cannot be interacted with except by its Parents, the Statolith, or an Earth Smash. Once it’s interacted with by its Parents, it loses the Burrowed status.

Organs in the Limb State may Dig a Hole for an Egg Cluster they are a Parent of, by paying 2 Gonium and performing the following as an atomic action:
-Privately communicating to the Statolith a location which is either their current location or a cell adjacent (North, South, West or East) to it. This is the Burrow Location for the purpose of an instance of this process.
-Removing the targeted Egg Cluster. That Egg Cluster was the Chosen Egg Cluster for the purpose of an instance of this process.
-Making a Blog post announcing this. This is the Burrow Post for the purpose of an instance of this process.

The Statolith may then perform the following as an Atomic Action:
-Restoring the Chosen Egg Cluster and changing its Location to the Burrow Location.
-Granting it the Burrowed status.
-Making a comment to the Burrow Post stating that the Burrow has been completed.

Also add:

An Organ in the Limb state may perform an Earth Smash by paying 2 Nonium and making a blog post announcing this, and their current Location (This is the Smash Location for the purpose of an instance of this process). The Statolith may then make Destroyed all Burrowed Egg Clusters at the Smash Location along a comment in the Earth Smash Blogpost stating the Egg Cluster causalities.

I know that this puts Egg Clusters in a sort of limbo before being burrowed, but this prevents sabotage and weirdness during the process because Viv isn’t going to be always online to make this seamless. Feel free to mess with the eggs once the process is done, though.

Add to the rule Egg Clusters:

Any organ that is the parent of an egg cluster in the “mature” state may birth that egg cluster, transforming it from an egg cluster into a medusa by performing the following as an atomic action:
- Add an ‘M’ to the beginning of the number used to track the location of the egg cluster in the Habitat.
- Give the medusa a name in the Habitat in the following format: the first three letters of the mothers name, followed by one letter each chosen from the name of each of the egg cluster’s fathers, followed by the number of that egg cluster.

Add to the list of neighbors in the rule Neighbors:

Add to Anatomy as another bullet in its list:

Nymph: When an Organ morphs into Nymph state, it loses all Creatures it is attached to (its “Creature” column in the GNDT becomes “-” to reflect the vacancy). Nymphs have representation on the map as [N:xxx], with xxx being that Organ’s name. Nymphs, when they become such, have their location set to be the same location as the Creature they just lost. Nymphs, as a daily action, can move its location to a cell adjacent to its current location. The Nymph can ask to merge with another Creature which is on its same cell, by making a blog post to reflect this - this post is a Merge Request. Once 3 or more Organs that are part of the Creature the Merge Request is directed at state in a comment that they Welcome the Nymph, the Nymph becomes part of their Creature, and its state changes to Amorphous.

In Creatures, change “Each Organ is part of one Creature, which can be referred to as that Organ’s Creature.” to:

Each non-Nymph Organ is part of one Creature, which can be referred to as that Organ’s Creature. Nymphs are part of no creature.

Proposal: Mitosis

Self-killed. Failed by Derrick

Adminned at 16 Mar 2017 20:32:13 UTC

Add to the rule Anatomy, as part of the list of valid organ states:

*Bud: An organ in the state of Bud may “split” as an atomic action if there are at least two other organs with the state of Bud, to create a new creature. Name the creature a well established human name unique to the game state, change the creature of each organ in the state of Bud to that name, and change the state of all organs in the state of bud to amorphous

Add to the rule Creatures

If a creature has less than three organs, it ceases to be a creature, and any organs in it must change their state to nymph (for free, without paying any nutrients) before taking any dynastic actions.

This should allow reasonably free arrangements of various creatures.

Micro = / = Mico

Just in case people prefer “Micronium” to “Miconium”, as indicated by pokes in the other CfJ. I don’t mind either way honestly. Whatever you guys prefer.

Change the definition of “May” under “Keywords” to “is allowed to”
Change the definition of “May not” under “Keywords” to “is not allowed to”
In the rules change every instance of “may not”, other than the definition of “may not” under Keywords, to “is not allowed to”
In the rules change every instance of “may”, other than the definition of “may” under Keywords or a section titled “The Maxim of Quantity” if it exists, to “is allowed to”
In any pending proposals, change every instance of “may not” to “is not allowed to”

Proposal: Maxim of Quantity, take 2

Adminned at 16 Mar 2017 14:34:54 UTC

Add a rule to the Appendex called “The Maxim of Quantity” as follows:

The ruleset is assumed to follow Grice’s Maxim of Quantity, that is, that it is to be interpreted as being exactly as informative as is necessary for a native English speaker to understand it.  Specifically, a clause with “may” specifies the limits of an action that may be performed (“may collect three items” does not allow for an interpretation of “may collect any number of items, including three”, but only the meaning “may collect only three items”) and it cannot be interpreted to mean that abiding by the limitation is optional unless “may” is followed by “choose to”.

Now without a “must”.  I don’t think this is necessary, but maybe it will shut Cuddlebeam up.

Add to the list of organs in the rule Anatomy:

Choanocyte: An organ in this state may, as a daily action, consume one nutrient to fertilize an egg cluster that is in the same location as that organ’s creature. The nutrient consumed must be a nutrient that the egg cluster currently requires. No organ may fertilize an egg cluster of which it is the mother. When an organ fertilizes an egg cluster, that organ’s name is added as a father to that egg cluster.

Add to the rule Egg Clusters:

Egg clusters may be said to require specific nutrients. An egg cluster in the Unfertilized stage requires any nutrient. An egg cluster in the “Needs Blonium” state requires Blonium. An egg cluster in the “Needs Gonium” stage requires Gonium. An egg cluster in the “Needs Nonium” stage requires Nonium. An egg cluster in the “Needs Miconium” stage requires Miconium.
When an egg cluster is laid, it is in the “Unfertilized” stage. When an egg cluster is fertilized, it advances to the next stage listed under “Stage” in this rule.

Add a new rule to the Appendix called “The Maxim of Quantity” as follows:

The ruleset is assumed to follow Grice’s Maxim of Quantity, that is, that it must be as informative as possible, giving as much information as needed and no more.

Add a section called “Endgames”. To it, add as a bullet:

Ultimate Satisfaction: Creatures can achieve Ultimate Satisfaction, if they fulfill the requirements for such. Once a Creature achieves Ultimate Satisfaction, the next Dynasty’s name will be whatever all Organs of the creature agrees it to be, or simply [Series of all of the names]‘s Dynasty, for example: “Jane’s, John’s, and Jacob’s Dynasty”. One randomly selected member of the Creature who has achieved Ultimate Satisfaction will become the victor of the current dynasty - this random selection will be made by the Statolith via the GNDT. That victor cannot overrule the dynasty name established by this Ultimate Satisfaction rule.

TEAM VICTORY RULES \o/ Intentionally a stub too.

Be part of a huge creature for more daily action and vote power, but have a smaller victory? Or be part of a smaller creature, and have a bigger victory? Your choice.

Proposal: Nymph State

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 15 Mar 2017 17:25:04 UTC

Just in case individual creatures become voting blocs that leave people outside of it stranded, this leaves a way for people to attempt to break dominating blocs to make new ones with the incentive of their own “membership”, so that they can get back into the game. Would make gameplay more dynamic, plus its a cool mechanic on its own.

Under the bullet Egg Sack in the rule Anatomy change:

An egg sack may spend one of each nutrient to lay an egg

to

An egg sack may spend one of each nutrient listed in Nutrients to lay an egg

The previous wording of “one of each nutrient” does not specify I believe it intends to say as “one of each nutrient type”. “Nutrient type” is not defined. Under the rule “Nutrients” the ruleset says, “Each nutrient counts individually: an organ with two blonium and one nonium has three nutrients.”, which specifies that two of the same nutrient counts as two nutrients; hence, “one of each nutrient” could imply that a user can use all (n>1) of the nutrients in their possession to invoke this rule. The correction, “each nutrient listed in Nutrients” gives context and a set as a basis for “each”.

Call for Judgment: Are terms we create in the rules Keywords?

It’s not explicit that terms we make up in the ruleset are Keywords, but it very much seems like it, which is why I have doubts. Just interested in getting a confirmation to know for sure.

If this CfJ passes, add to “Keywords”, after “A keyword defined by a rule supersedes the normal English usage of the word”

and terms created and defined in the ruleset are Keywords.

for the sake of confirming a pre-existing phenomenon in the ruleset.

Under the “Keywords” section add the following text after the first paragraph.

A keyword is a word or group of words whose definition is given in the rules. The keyword is usually shorter than the definition and is used as a shorthand for that definition. More clearly, any use of the keyword is either replacible by the definition itself or is in accordance with that keyword’s definition.

Proposal: I can’t get no satisfaction

Reached quorum 9 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 14 Mar 2017 12:07:38 UTC

Create a subrule of the rule “Moods” called “Satisfaction”:

Each creature has a Satisfaction Level, which is tracked in the Map of the Habitat page and indicates how well the creature’s needs are being met.  Satisfaction Level may be a number between 1 and 5 inclusive, which can also be referred to using a name as described below.  If Satisfaction Level should ever become less than 1, it is set to 1 instead.  If it should ever become greater than 5, it is set to 5 instead.

Satisfaction Levels:
* 1: “Depressed”
* 2: “Down”
* 3: “Satisfied”
* 4: “Happy”
* 5: “Fulfilled”

Add to the end bullet point beginning with “Beak” in the “Anatomy” rule:

This action fulfills Hunger.

Add to the end of the paragraph beginning with “As a daily communal action, any Organ may “gather ambient nutrients”“:

Gathering ambient nutrients fulfills Hunger.

Replace the paragraph in the “Moods” rule beginning with “Actions can “fulfill” a creature’s moods.” with:

Actions can “fullfill” a creature’s moods. If an action fullfills a mood, and that mood is the highest or tied for the highest of that creature’s moods, that mood decreases by one, and the organ may take up to 2 nutrients from the statolith, if the statolith has them, and its creature’s Satisfaction Level increases by 1. If the action taken adds nutrients to the statolith, those nutrients must be added before the organ attempts to take any.  If the statolith does not have any nutrients when nutrients would be taken as a result of fulfilling a mood, its hunger mood increases by 5.

Add an additional paragraph to “Moods”:

If an action fulfills a mood and that mood is not the highest or tied for highest of that creature’s mood’s, then the organ’s creature’s satisfaction level decreases by 1.

Set all creatures’ satisfaction levels to 3.

Moods don’t really do anything right now and glands have nothing to do.  This gives us motivation to satisfy the creature and increase moods to encourage other organs to do certain things.  Also, this way everyone can benefit from satisfying the creature and not just the organ that did the action, making glandular activity more attractive.  We can hash out what effect satisfaction level actually has on the gamestate in another proposal.  Maybe being depressed makes things cost more nutrients?  Maybe we can only lay eggs if fulfilled?

To “Creatures”, add:

A Creature with more Organs (note that the Statolith doesn’t count as an Organ) than any other Creature cannot exist.

I don’t want the splitting process to just be some attempt to form a “majority” faction of a sort to out-vote everyone else because it feels just lukewarm to be on the good end of these kind of plays, but it feels like total bullshit to be on the bad end.

So here’s my attempt to neuter such a situation.

Call for Judgment: Sea Weed Spawning

Timed out 0 votes to 5. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 14 Mar 2017 09:27:15 UTC

Given that

Ocellus: As a daily action, an organ of this state may scout any location that is horizontally or vertically adjacent to its Creature’s current location. If the location examined is named “Foggy Location” the organ may change it’s name to “Scouted Location” and then add one random terrain feature to that location. scouting fullfills curiosity.

Spawn - a neighbor that spawns in a location is added to that loctation when that location is scouted by an Organ in the ocellus state and the other conditions for spawning are met.

and

Sea Weed - Represented by ‘W’. Spawns if there are no features in the scouted location.

Wouldn’t Sea Weed spawn in a Foggy Location when it’s scouted, since at the time the location is scouted it has no terrain features?
As far as I understand how Ocellus works, the location is scouted and then the features and name changes are actions done after the scouting. If those all happen during the scouting, then the location is scouted during a time with no terrain features, so sea weed would be added in addition to whatever other neighbor spawns from the terrain feature.

Cells that were Foggy Locations before the proposal “Life” passed but are now under a different name are called “affected cells” for the purposes of this CfJ.

If enacted this CfJ will do the following:
If the majority of final valid votes for contain only the text “sea weed” then the affected cells have their current neighbors removed and sea weed added in.
Otherwise add one sea weed to each of the affected cells.

Proposal: Parental Instinct

Quorums 9-0. — Quirck

Adminned at 13 Mar 2017 12:57:52 UTC

To the list of organs add:

Egg Sack: An egg sack may spend one of each nutrient to lay an egg cluster in the cell the creature is in, if that cell contains no neighbors that are not seaweed. Its state is unfertilized, it has no fathers yet, its cell is the current cell, and its mother is the organ that laid it.

Enact a new rule, “Egg Clusters”

egg clusters are tracked on the Habitat Map as numbers, in order of creation, with the first egg sack being numbered one.

An egg cluster that shares a cell with a neighbor that is not seaweed at any time is changed to the stage “Destroyed”

The map of habitat tracks the following information about each egg cluster:
*Number: A unique number, starting at 1 for the first egg cluster and counting upward by 1
*Location: A location on the habitat map.
*Mother: The organ that laid the egg cluster.
*Fathers: The name(s) of the organ(s), if any, that have fertilized the eggs, along with the number of times they have done so.
*Stage: One of the following (in order): Unfertilized, Needs Blonium, Needs Gonium, Needs Nomium, Needs Miconium, Mature, and Destroyed.

This is a maternal creature, that cares for its young—at least before they hatch.

Each egg cluster will have one mother, but many fathers, as each egg will only produce a single organ.

This setup intentionally requires both nutrients and location to be correct to produce young. Laying the egg cluster is also intentionally expensive and difficult.

The rule is intentionally left unfinished.

Names for different kinds of plays?

For example, you’ve got your “Hail Mary passes” in football, your “Sicilian Defense” in chess, etc. Are there names for common/popular plays in Blognomic?

I suppose a “scam” is a type of play, but there are way more plays than “scams”. One that I keep on seeing often is one that in my head I call “Defecting a Minority”, where via a proposal, you give a benefit to yourself + a majority, and/or defect a minority which doesn’t include yourself (in relative terms, its the same thing really). For example, “Everyone with a name that starts with a consonant gains 10 points”, or more elegant variants.

I understand that Nomic is an incredibly varied game, and that a lot of “plays” are very unique, but I believe that some kind of coarse classification for a couple could be done and could be super interesting to have because we could better see and analyze how everything has played out. Let me know what you think! What kind of plays do you believe merit a name of its own?

A lot of proposals that I see when the game is about to end are “Hail Mary” plays, for example.

Call for Judgment: Algorithmic naming.

Failed with a quorum against, 1-7. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 11 Mar 2017 09:17:53 UTC

TL;DR: The ruleset doesn’t prohibit naming via algorithm, algorithms are just expression of language - another way to legally convey meaning like rules do, the algorithm-based naming fulfills the naming requirements and is therefore legal.

So I used an algorithm to name D5. I consider it to be an articulation of language, because it’s merely another way to express the action of naming something (For example, “D5 is Red Crevice” is an algorithm in itself as well, albeit a very simple one), plus it fulfills all of the conditions laid out by the naming rule. Here is the naming comment in question (among others, because I derped repeatedly while I wanted to get it posted properly asap. This one is the most encompassing version.)

I am naming cell D5 of The map of the Habitat in this comment. D5’s name is “The {color} crevice”, where {color} is “blue” if the Organ named Cuddlebeam will win this dynasty of BlogNomic and “red” in all other cases.

Here are each and every requirement the rule lays out.

An organ may change the name of any cell in the habitat map named “Scouted Location” by commenting that they are doing so in the GNDT.

-This is fulfilled via “I am naming cell D5 of The map of the Habitat in this comment”

The name the cell changed to must be a “Valid Final Name”.
The valid final name the cell’s name is being changed to must be unique on the habitat map. The comment must uniquely identify which cell is being renamed by giving either directions from a unique location on the Habitat Map, by counting positions, or by referring to the grid coordinates associated with that cell: (eg. “4B” which would refer to the fourth cell from the top in the second column)
a “Valid Final Name” is one of the following forms
[feature name] of Solitude
[feature name] of Activity
[feature name] of Pendantry
[feature name] of Laxness
[feature name] of Bounty
[feature name] of Desolation
[feature name] of Hope
[feature name] of Despair
[feature name] of Gratitude
[feature name] of Entiltement
[feature name] of Calm
[feature name] of Turbulence
[feature name] of Plenty
[feature name] of Hunger
[organ name]‘s [feature name]
The [color] [feature name]
little [featurename]
The Great [featurename]
The Tall [featurename]
The Wide [featurename]
Devil’s [featurename]
[featurename] must be the name of a terrain feature in the cell being named.
[organ name] must be the name of an organ who is playing.
[color] must be a color that cannot be confused for a game term. Colors named after sea creatures are explitly forbidden.

In “The {color} crevice”, where {color} is “blue” if the Organ named Cuddlebeam will win this dynasty of BlogNomic and “red” in all other cases.”, both “The Red Crevice” and “The Blue Crevice” are both legal names according to those previous conditions.

So, I’d like to have recognized that D5’s name is “The {color} crevice”, where {color} is “blue” if the Organ named Cuddlebeam will win this dynasty of BlogNomic and “red” in all other cases.” (whether its “The Red Crevice” or “The Blue Crevice”), because that text represents a fully legal name as per the rule’s conditions.

Once recognized due to the previous reasons, rename D5 to “The Crevice of Pendantry”

CfJ about an important mechanic that I’d like to have recognized (algorithms in language being a thing or not). Then a tidy-up to get the Blognomic going again seamlessly.

Rename every cell which is called neither “Sea of Eden” nor “Foggy Location” to “Scouted Location”.

In “Habitat”, replace “commenting that they are doing so in the GNDT” with:-

updating the wiki page to that effect

And remove “The comment must uniquely identify which cell is being renamed by giving either directions from a unique location on the Habitat Map, by counting positions, or by referring to the grid coordinates associated with that cell: (eg. “4B” which would refer to the fourth cell from the top in the second column) “

Then, in “Habitat”, replace “[color] must be a color that cannot be confused for a game term. Colors named after sea creatures are explitly forbidden.” with:-

[color] must be one of Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet, White, Grey or Black.

Makes more sense to edit the wiki, if we want to rename a square in a wiki page. Also, let’s keep the colours simple,.

Proposal: It’s Crowded in Here

Reached quorum 9 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan. The second clause of the Habitat edit had no effect, as “any Organ may increase the Statolith’s Gonium by 5” no longer existed in the ruleset at the point of enactment.

Adminned at 10 Mar 2017 23:24:15 UTC

Add a new rule, “Creatures”:

Each Creature has a name; a Creature named X is referred to as “the Creature named X”.
Each Organ is part of one Creature, which can be referred to as that Organ’s Creature. Organs’ Creatures are tracked in the GNDT by their Creatures’ names in the column “Creature”, which defaults to “Eve”.

Set each Organ’s Creature to Eve.

In “Anatomy”:
- After “Limb”, change “to move the Creature’s location” to “to move its Creature’s location”.
- Change the text in the bullet point for Beak to “Beak: As a daily action, if a Creature is in a Location that also contains a Reef and at least one Organ belonging to that Creature has the Ocellus state, an Organ belonging to that Creature that is in the Beak state may consume one Micronium to add 3 Nonium and 3 Blonium to the Statolith’s nutrients and decrease that Creature’s Hunger mood by 2. If this would cause the Hunger mood to become less than 0, it becomes 0 instead.”
- After Ocellus, change “adjacent to the Creature’s current location.” to “adjacent to its Creature’s current location.”
- After Gland, change “of the Creature” to “of its Creature”.

In “Moods”:
- Change “The Creature has a number of moods.” to “Each Creature has a number of moods.”
- Change “The Creature has the following moods:” to “Creatures have the following moods:”
- Change “Actions can “fullfill” the creature’s moods. If an action fullfills a mood, and that mood is the highest or tied for the highest of the creature’s moods” to “Actions can “fullfill” a creature’s moods. If an action fullfills a mood, and that mood is the highest or tied for the highest of that creature’s moods”.
- On the Map of Habitat page, add a header indicating that the current moods belong to Eve.

In “Nutrients”:
- Change “The creature uses nutrients in order to make itself grow and thrive.” to “Creatures use nutrients in order to make themselves grow and thrive.”
- Change “An Organ may give a Nutrient it is storing to another Organ at any time.” to “An Organ may give a Nutrient it is storing to another Organ belonging to the same Creature at any time.”
- Change “Any gift of nutrients to the statolith decreases the hunger mood by the number of nutrients given” to “Any gift of nutrients to the statolith decreases the hunger mood of the gifting Organ’s Creature by the number of nutrients given”

In Habitat:
- Change “The Creature’s location in that grid is marked with an X” to “Each Creature’s location in that grid is marked with [NAME], where NAME is the Name of the Creature”.
- Change “As a daily communal action, any Organ may increase the Statolith’s Gonium by 5 if the Creature is in a Location that also contains a Brine Pool, or increase the Statolith’s Micronium by 5 if the Creature is in a Location that also contains a Vent.” to “As a daily communal action, any Organ may increase the Statolith’s Gonium by 5 if that Organ’s Creature is in a Location that also contains a Brine Pool, or increase the Statolith’s Micronium by 5 if that Organ’s Creature is in a Location that also contains a Vent.”

In Neighbors, change “The Creature lives” to “Creatures live”.

Setting groundwork for splitting, mostly the obvious changes that would imply except that the Statolith remains a universal storage facility.

The Creature wobbles and tightens slightly around its middle.

The Creature can’t travel to Locations named “Foggy Location”.

to

The Creature can’t move to a Location named “Foggy Location”.

A creature does not “travel” to “locations”. A creature “moves” to “a location”. The primary purpose of this proposal is to standardize “move” as the action of The Creature changing positions, as “Travel” is not defined.

᠎More Neighbors

Add to the list of neighbors in the rule “Neighbors”

Eel - Represented by ‘E’. Spawns if there is a Crevice in the scouted location.
Mussels - Represented by ‘M’. Spawns if there is a Brine Pool in the scouted location
Starfish - Represented by ‘S’. Spawns if there is a Large Rock Outcropping in the scouted location.
Sea Anemone - Represented by ‘A’. Spawns if there is a Reef in the scouted location.
Sea Weed - Represented by ‘W’. Spawns if there are no features in the scouted location.
Tube Worm - Represented by ‘T’. Spawns if there is a Vent in the scouted location.

Add to the top of the section “Neighbors”

Spawn - a neighbor that spawns in a location is added to that loctation when that location is scouted by an Organ in the ocellus state and the other conditions for spawning are met.

And finally if the majority of Voters For this proposal have the text, “change grumper” in their final vote, then change “Every Monday at 6:00:00 UTC, a Big Grumper appears at all locations that have the Skeleton terrain feature and don’t have a Big Grumper already” to

Represented by ‘BG’. Spawns if there is a skeleton present in a location.

Something cool I found when looking at what neighbor to put at the vents, http://ocean.si.edu/ocean-videos/hydrothermal-vent-creatures
I think if it were enacted presently, any foggy location would automatically get sea weed since it doesn’t have any features at the time of scouting.

Proposal: Does the Ocean have a Name?

Reached quorum 7 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 10 Mar 2017 10:58:39 UTC

Add to the rule “Habitat”

An organ may change the name of any cell in the habitat map named “Scouted Location” by commenting that they are doing so in the GNDT.

*[feature name] of Solitude
*[feature name] of Activity
*[feature name] of Pendantry
*[feature name] of Laxness
*[feature name] of Bounty
*[feature name] of Desolation
*[feature name] of Hope
*[feature name] of Despair
*[feature name] of Gratitude
*[feature name] of Entiltement
*[feature name] of Calm
*[feature name] of Turbulence
*[feature name] of Plenty
*[feature name] of Hunger
*[organ name]‘s [feature name]
*The [color] [feature name]
*little [featurename]
*The Great [featurename]
*The Tall [featurename]
*The Wide [featurename]
*Devil’s [featurename]

*[featurename] must be the name of a terrain feature in the cell being named.
*[organ name] must be the name of an organ who is playing.
*[color] must be a color that cannot be confused for a game term. Colors named after sea creatures are explitly forbidden.

Because “Scouted Location” is a terrible name.

Add to the rule “Habitat”

a terrain feature may be said to “supply” a type of nutrient.

Brine Pools supply Gonium. Vents supply Miconium

In the rule habitat, change the paragraph: “As a daily communal action, any Organ may increase the Statolith’s Gonium by 5 if the Creature is in a Location that also contains a Brine Pool, or increase the Statolith’s Micronium by 5 if the Creature is in a Location that also contains a Vent.”

As a daily communal action, any Organ may “gather ambient nutrients” by stating it is doing so in the GNDT. When an organ gathers ambient nutrients, if a terrain feature that supplies a nutrient is in the same cell as the creature, add five of that nutrient to the statolith, plus an additional five nutrients of that type for each organ in the state of Gut. gathering ambient nutrients reduces hunger by 2 for every five nutrients added to the statolith.

A beak can chew away until it runs out of miconium. Lets allow a way to increase other nutrient intake.

Also, named gathering ambient nutrients and the fact that vents and brine pools supply them. May be handy in the future.

Proposal: Circulatory System

Quorums 9-0. — Quirck

Adminned at 09 Mar 2017 19:54:08 UTC

Add to the “Nutrients” rule:

As a daily action, an Organ may take up to three nutrients from the Statolith.

Remove the sentence “An organ in an amorphous state may take up to 4 nutrients from the statolith, if the statolith has them, by altering the GNDT to do so, and declaring they are doing so as a comment of the action” from the “Anatomy” rule.

Remove the sentence “An organ may only change its state to amorphous once per day.” from the Anatomy rule, if it exists.

The same as changing to Amorphous and back again, except it doesn’t cost two nutrients and is less GNDT overhead.  It seems like we ought to have some sort of automatic nutrient distribution anyway, rather than require organs to transmute themselves to get any.  Limits to three, but you would only get three anyway, since you need to spend one to morph back into whatever form you wanted to be in to get something done in anyway.

Proposal: Neighbors

Quorums 8-1. — Quirck

Adminned at 09 Mar 2017 19:52:24 UTC

Add a section called “Neighbors”. Within it, add:

The Creature lives in an ecosystem with other living beings. These beings are called “neighbors”. The possible kinds of Neighbors are the following:

As a bullet underneath that, add:

Big Grumper: Every Monday at 6:00:00 UTC, a Big Grumper appears at all locations that have the Skeleton terrain feature and don’t have a Big Grumper already.

Wildlife \o/

Proposal: Lest We Run Faster than We have Strength

Quorums 9-0. — Quirck

Adminned at 09 Mar 2017 19:50:25 UTC

To the rule “Anatomy” add:

An organ may only change its state to amorphous once per day.

Right now the rules encourage long chains of actions done quickly, ending by using up all the resources that the statolith has accumulated. This is accomplished by constantly going amorphous in order to gain nutrients. This rule puts a limit on these chains. As a reminder, we use UTC time, so Americans have days starting and ending in the evening.

Proposal: Diversification

Quorums 10-0. — Quirck

Adminned at 09 Mar 2017 19:49:27 UTC

In the rule Anatomy, add the following to the bulleted list of states:

-  Pancreas: An Organ in the Pancreas state may, by consuming two units of the same nutrient, generate one unit of any other nutrient.

Note

When “I can see clearly” and “Mood swings” are enacted, Ocelluses can scout, but doing so will satisfy Curiosity, and since the Statolith has no nutrients, we’ll become hungry.  So whichever Ocellus satisfies Curiosity should give a nutrient to the Statolith first.  You can take it back afterwards.

Proposal: A Tiny Difference

Self-killed. — Quirck

Adminned at 09 Mar 2017 19:48:16 UTC

If the proposal “I can see clearly now” has not passed this proposal does nothing.

Under the section titled “Anatomy” change “-Ocellus: As a daily action, an organ of this state may scout any location that is horizontally or vertically adjacent to the Creature’s current location. If the location examined is named “Foggy Location” the organ may change it’s name to “Scouted Location” and then add one random terrain feature to that location.” to

-Ocellus: As a daily action, an organ of this state may scout any location that is horizontally or vertically adjacent to the Creature’s current location. If the location examined does not contain any terrain features, they must add one random terrain feature to that location. If the location is called Foggy Location, the Organ must choose a different name that is not Sea of Eden.

Proposal: Tides

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 09 Mar 2017 09:44:12 UTC

Add to the rules a section titled “The Tides”
Under it add

As a daily communal action the following atomic actions may be taken:
1. Do a DICE4 roll and subtract one from the result.
2. Do another DICE4 roll for the direction. 1 = North, 2 = East, 3 = South and 4 = West
3. If the Creature is near and edge of the Habitat, repeat from step 1 if the direction points to it’s own edge.
4. Move the Creature the number of squares from the result in step 1 in the direction from step 2. If any locations that the Creature would move to are named Foggy Location, change their name to Currentswept Sand before moving the Creature to that location.

Proposal: Sustenance

Reached quorum 7 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 09 Mar 2017 09:43:40 UTC

Add the following to the end of the “Habitat” rule:

As a daily communal action, any Organ may increase the Statolith’s Gonium by 5 if the Creature is in a Location that also contains a Brine Pool, or increase the Statolith’s Micronium by 5 if the Creature is in a Location that also contains a Vent.

Replace the “Beak” bullet point in the “Anatomy” rule with:

Beak: As a daily action, if the Creature is in a Location that also contains a Reef and at least one Organ has the Ocellus state, an Organ that is in the Beak state may consume one Micronium to add 3 Nonium and 3 Blonium to the Statolith’s nutrients and decrease the Hunger mood by 2.  If this would cause the Hunger mood to become less than 0, it becomes 0 instead.

This way we can stock on up on e.g. Gonium in order to go on extended travels, rather than hoping we get Gonium randomly from the weekly action.

Proposal: Mood Swings

Reached quorum 8 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 09 Mar 2017 09:39:52 UTC

Add to the rule “Moods”:

Actions can “fullfill” the creature’s moods. If an action fullfills a mood, and that mood is the highest or tied for the highest of the creature’s moods, that mood decreases by one, and the organ may take up to 2 nutrients from the statolith, if the statolith has them. If the statolith does not have any nutrients when a the highest (or tied for highest) mood is fullfilled, its hunger mood increases by 5.

Add To the rule “Nutrients”:

An Organ may give some of their nutrients to the statolith at any time by changing the GNDT to reflect so. Any gift of nutrients to the statolith decreases the hunger mood by the number of nutrients given, as long as the hunger is above or equal to 0. If a gift of nutrients would cause hunger to become less than 0, it instead becomes 0

In the rule the rule “Anatomy”.

Add to the end of the paragraph starting with “-Ocellus”

scouting fullfills curiosity.

Add to the end of the paragraph starting with “-Limb”

moving fullfills restlessness.

Lets give a reward for doing what the creature wants, not what the organ wants!

Yes, getting nutrients for yourself doesn’t satisfy hunger. You have to satisfy the creature!

Quorumms 9-0. — Quirck

Adminned at 08 Mar 2017 20:56:48 UTC

If the proposal “Primordial Smoothie” does not pass, this proposal has no effect.

Add the following to the rule “Nutrients”:

An Organ may store up to 4 nutrients. If an Organ has more than 4 nutrients after completing a dynastic action, they must give nutrients to the statolith until they only have 4 nutrients before performing any other dynastic action. Each nutrient counts individually: an organ with two blonium and one nonium has three nutrients.

The statolith may store any number of nutrients it is given. These are tracked in the GNDT as the first letter of those nutrients, followed by the number of those nutrients stored. (eg. a Statolith with two units of Blonium and one of Nonium would track this as “b2g0n1m0”.)

Upon the enactment of this proposal, the statolith is given no nutrients. (eg. b0g0n0m0)

To the list of states an organ may be in, add:

Amorphous: An organ in an amorphous state may take up to 4 nutrients from the statolith, if the statolith has them, by altering the GNDT to do so, and declaring they are doing so as a comment of the action.

We are, after all, a single creature, connected by flesh and blood.

Add a new section called “Endgames”. Within it, add:

Like with any organism, its goal is to thrive, expand and multiply - to reproduce with success. An Organ is victorious if they manage to produce a total of 100 healthy offspring via either impregnating others or by gestating and laying eggs themselves.

To “Anatomy” add as additional bullets the following:

Dart Sack: The Dart Sack is the Creature’s male reproductive organ. At any time, the organ can use 1 Blonium to fire a dart, by making a blog post announcing this.
Egg Sack: The Egg Sack is the Creature’s female reproductive organ. If Impregnated, the Eggsack becomes Pregnant. While it is Pregnant, it must consume 1 of each type of nutrient to stay Pregnant as a daily action and not Morph into another organ, or they will lose the Pregnant state. After three of these daily actions, the Eggsack can opt to stop being Pregnant to Lays Eggs, by making a blog post announcing this.

We’re all of the same “boat” here, but what kind of victory should we have? Individual? Shared? Lets get the ball rolling with this proposal.

To “Nutrients”, add:-

Each Organ stores an amount of Nutrients, tracked in the GNDT as a lowercase string of the first letters of those Nutrients. (eg. an Organ with two units of Blonium and one of Nonium would track this as “bbn”.) When an Organ “consumes” a Nutrient, that Nutrient (which it must be storing itself) is removed.

Core Rule Changes?

I didn’t see anything about it but I assume we can change the core rules, what do you guys think about something like this? Or even adding Atomic Actions and Hiatus to the Core section of the rules? Two hours might be a bit long if many more players were added.

Proposal: Note Fix
Add to the section “Proposals”

Proposals have two states, closed and open. Submitted proposals start out with the open state. Open proposals may be voted on and closed proposals cannot be voted on but may be self-killed. When a comment is made that begins with “Note:” and it contains no voting icons, then the proposal’s state is closed. Each Organ may only close a given proposal once. If a proposal is closed, then it may be set to open when all of the players who have closed a proposal post another comment containing an arrow or all of the comments that close a proposal are over 2 hours old.

Change “If no Organ has commented on it, or if the only comments on it begin with “Note:” and contain no voting icons, an official post may be altered or removed by its author;” to-

If no Organ has commented on it, if no votes are cast while it’s state is open, or if the only comments on it begin with “Note:” and have no voting icons, then an official post may be altered or removed by its author;

Not actually a votable matter but discussion, spotting errors or even coming up with better ideas that can lead to improvement in the core game.

Proposal: Locations

Reached quorum 9 votes to 0, enacted by Kevan. Haven’t put the names on the Map because the rule doesn’t say to.

Adminned at 07 Mar 2017 09:27:37 UTC

If the “Habitat” exists and is defined in the game’s rules, include the following into the section of the ruleset where that definition exists.

Each Cell of the Habitat Map represents a Location. A Location has a Name. A Location’s Name by default is “Foggy Location”. The Creature can’t travel to Locations named “Foggy Location”.

The Creature’s starting location is named “Sea of Eden”.

Kind of like a “Fog of War” mechanic.

What Kind of Habitat

Just checking what the group vision for the organism is, so I can add detail to the habitat.

Is this supposed to be a reef dwelling organism, and we should surround it with rocks and coral?
Or is this supposed to be a deep ocean dweller, with pits, wrecks, perhaps an underwater vent or two?
Or is it something atypical like a cave?

My gut says its a deep ocean dweller, but all of the awesome things I want to litter the habitat with are all reef like.

I could just propose, but I would like to test the waters first.

Enact A new rule: ‘Moods’

The Organism has a number of moods. Each mood has an associated integer tracked on the “Map of Habitat” wiki page. The organism has the following moods:

*Hunger
*Restlessness
*Curiosity

Set each mood of the organism to 3.

Add to the end of the list of organ states in the rule ‘Anatomy’:

Gland : as a daily action, an organism in the state of a gland may increase a single mood of the organism by 2

If either the proposal ‘Anatomy’ is not passed or the proposal ‘Creature of Habitat’ is not passed, or both, this proposal will have no effect.

Lets give this thing a personality!

Data Tracking

I have some rules I want to propose, but I’m unsure of where the best places to track data are, and particularly the limits of the GNDT. Is it suited for tracking a number of values attached to the organism rather than any particular player? or should it be tracked in the wiki instead? For instance, if I wanted to add a “Hunger” stat to the organism, where would that best be tracked?

Ascension Address: Descending and Regressing

The surviving villagers of Zahndorf bury their dead.
One of them returns the book of rituals to the library.
On the librarian’s desk, they notice a large round rock patterned with pitted swirls. By it, a slim book is opened to a page with a drawing of the same rock, labelled “The Statolith, pictured directly after recovery”.
The pages are loose with age.
It seems to be a scientific treatise about a deep sea creature, highly speculative as to its shape and life cycle. Carefully, the villager leafs through the book, puzzled by the drawings.

A long time ago, on the sea floor, the Creature is alive.
It is not sentient, but awake.

If a Villager would gain a new Symptom from The Black Death while they have the Symptom Wolf Form as a result of the Doctors rounds or being the Taker of a Remedy, they instead do not gain that new Symptom.

I don’t think the wording it too vague

Just to be sure…

I am performing a Saltwater Ritual in the Church.

(Just for neatness, in case the earlier timestamp is contested.)

The Saltwater Ritual

The wolf pads up to the altar and puts down chewed-up nightshade dripping with well water and damp salt from the dead priest’s pocket.
It sits on its haunches and after a few coughs and growls starts to speak in a human voice, reminiscent of the town librarian who disappeared weeks ago, but hoarse, as with a bad cold. It’s a simple incantation, thanking the dead. She pleads for healing, by the water that runs beneath the town like blood, drawn out into the roots of the night, cleansed with salt and sacrifice.
The ancient Saltwater Ritual completed, she lowers her snout and quietly says: “I miss you.”
Then she curls up to rest.

(Using Nightshade, Well Water and Salt at the Church to perform a Saltwater Ritual.)

Proposal: Divine Intervention

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

If this proposal passes, move any Villagers who have any of the symptoms Wolf Form or Back Hair to the last non-Church location they have been.
In the “Locations” section add to the Church

As a daily action, a Villager may pray.

Add to the end of the “Locations” section of the Church

Praying can be done in one of the ways listed below:
Preforming the following atomic actions:
1. Roll DICE5
2. If the result of step 1 is a die roll of 1, roll another DICE5
3. The Villager makes a blog post stating they prayed and if they rolled a die on step 2, are cured of disease X. X corresponds to the disease with the same value as the die rolled in step 2. Auge = 1, The Black Death = 2, The Pox = 3, Toothache = 4 and Lycanthropy = 5.
PM the Doctor, stating that they are praying. When the Doctor attends he preforms the following atomic actions:
1. 20% chance that the Villager is cured of a random disease
2. PM the Villager back stating whether they were cured and if so what the Villager is cured of.

Villagers with Back Hair or Wolf Form cannot enter the Church.

And finally add a bullet point second to last in “The Doctor’s Rounds” that reads

For each Villager in the Church a random 20% chance that this cures the Villager of a random disease, regardless of whether that Villager has that disease.

The placebo effect in action!

Proposal: But I’m Alright Now

Timed out 6 votes to 0 but does nothing as the referenced rules no longer exist. Enacted by Kevan.

Replace “During the Doctor’s Rounds if a Villager has the Symptom of Wolf Form and at least one Silver Remedy in their inventory that Villager has has the follow atomic actions preformed by the Doctor:

* A 10% chance that Lycanthropy and Wolf Form are removed from the Villager.
* If the Villager had Wolf Form and it was removed in the last action, a separate 20% chance that the Villager gains the symptom Death.

These actions are also preformed if a Villager with Lycanthropy becomes the Taker of a Silver Remedy.” with:-

A Villager with Lycanthropy is Turned when a Silver Remedy of which they are the Taker takes effect. When a Villager is Turned, they have a 10% chance of Regressing (losing Lycanthropy and - if they have it - Wolf Form); when a Villager loses Wolf Form in this way, they have a 20% chance of then gaining the symptom “Death”.

Add a new step before the final step of “The Doctor’s Rounds”:-

For each Villager with Wolf Form who is carrying a Silver Remedy, Turning that Villager.

Should clarify exactly when “during the Doctor’s Rounds” this happens, as I have several options and no guidance here. Also having the silver effect trigger when a taken remedy is processed, rather than when it is given (as the giver doesn’t necessarily know whether the taker has Lycanthropy).

The Doctor’s Rounds

Rainclouds gather over the village. Somewhere deep in the forest, Orkboi develops a cough and Quincunx dies.
