Proposal: From Charlton Heston’s Cold Dead Hands

s/k, failed by aaronwinborn

Adminned at 01 Nov 2007 11:35:12 UTC

Part A—

Add to the rule “Items” a new subrule: “Mayor’s Items”, as follows:

Notwithstanding any Will, all items in the Mayor’s inventory belong to the Zahndorf government. A duly adopted Town Meeting proposal may cause any item in the Mayor’s inventory to be transferred to such Villager as the Town Meeting proposal directs.

Part B—

Transfer all of Amnistar’s Silver Bullets, Amnistar’s Gun, and all of Spikebrennan’s Silver Bullets in existence at the time of adoption of this Proposal, to the Mayor.

Unidle

This one looks interesting; I’ll jump in.  Can everybody give me an overview of the publicly available information, such as how many werewolves there are supposed to be out there?

Also, I’ve included my contact info on the Post Office page already.

Proposal: The dead speak

reached quorum, passed 13-1. enacted by aaronwinborn

Adminned at 01 Nov 2007 11:31:48 UTC

Add a new subrule to each rule entitled either “Ghost” or “Ghosts”.  Call it “Seance” and give it the following text:

During any Nighttime period in which a werewolf has already slain a villager, any living villager may make a Seance proposal by posting a Town Meeting with the subject ‘Seance’. Any Villager that votes in the Town Meeting Seance may post a single question to a Ghost, by including the phrase “I ask “Ghost” “Question” in the comment containing their last vote on that proposal, where “Ghost” is the name of any Ghost and “Question” Is any question.  Only one Seance can be held per Nighttime.

When a Seance proposal passes, a story post is made (by the enacting admin) with the title “Seance Results”, and the contents of the post will contain each question asked during that seance.  Each Ghost may reply to this post a single valid response to each question asked of them, a valid response being “Yes”, “No”, “Maybe”, “I don’t know”, the name of any Villager or Idle Villager or any integer between 0 and 100 (inclusive).  The restrictions on dead Villagers found in the rule entitled “Dead Men Tell No Tales” shall not apply to a valid response to such a question.

Proposal: Let Ghosts do their Jobs

reached quorum, passed 13-0, enacted by aaronwinborn

Adminned at 01 Nov 2007 11:23:14 UTC

Rename the Rule called ‘Ghost’ to ‘Ghosts’.

In the Rule called ‘Ghosts’, change the text that reads ‘Whenever a Ghost’s target is killed by Werewolves as a result of Rule 2.2’ to read ‘Whenever a Ghost’s target is killed as a result of the Rule called “Werewolves”’.

Proposal: The other was a placebo.

Reached quorum 11-1-0 Enacted by Chivalrybean

Adminned at 01 Nov 2007 09:30:43 UTC

In the subrule Doctor, set the text to

If a villager is the Doctor, e may secretly tell the mayor of a villager who is their target. If their target would otherwise have been killed by a werewolf attack, the doctor instead saves the villager from death. The Doctor may not target the same villager more than two nights in a row. If the doctor saves a villager, the mayor shall send a private message to the saved villager and doctor stating that the doctor saved the villager. The mayor shall also send a seperate message to all werewolves who were involved in the attack and state that the attacked happened, but was unsuccessful. Then the mayor may post a public notice stating the events of the night, that an attack happened and was foiled by the doctor.

Does this make Kevan the Mayor a ghost writer?

Proposal: Take two of these and be alive in the morning.

Self-Killed and adminned by Chivalrybean

Adminned at 01 Nov 2007 07:30:19 UTC

In the subrule Doctor, set the text to:

If a villager is the Doctor, e may secretly tell the mayor of a villager who is their target. If their target would otherwise have been killed by a werewolf attack, the doctor instead saves the villager from death. The Doctor may not target the same villager more than two nights in a row. If a villager would have died, but was saved by the werewolf, the mayor shall send a message to the saved villager and the doctor stating that they were saved from a werewolf attack, but shall not publicly reveal this information, they may only reveal that no one was killed, but not why.

Proposal: This one is on me…

Timed out and passed 6-1-5. Enacted by Chivalrybean

Adminned at 01 Nov 2007 07:28:57 UTC

Add a new sub-rule “Beer Seller” to the rule “Occupations” with the text:

As a daily action, the Beer Seller (if living) may “make a sale”. To do so, they roll 1DICEX (where X is the number of living villagers) and count down that number of villagers in the GNDT, skipping villagers who are dead. The selected villager gains an Ale Tankard item. Any villager carrying an Ale Tankard item is “Drunk”. If a Drunk villager is killed, the villager or villagers responsible gain an additional acuity point. During the Day, a villager who has carried an Ale Tankard since the start of that day may “sober up” and destroy that Ale Tankard item.

Proposal: Howling Fury

Timed Out. Failed 1-3-6. Adminned by Chivalrybean

Adminned at 01 Nov 2007 07:24:23 UTC

Add a new sub-rule “Master of Hounds” to the rule titled “Occupations” with the text:

The Master of Hounds (if living) may secretly inform the mayor of the status of the hounds. The hounds may either be “penned” or “released”. The hounds are “penned” unless otherwise specified. Whenever a villager is killed by being targeted by werewolves, if the hounds are released they begin to howl, alerting the village to the crime. When this occurs, the Mayor shall secretly reveal to each living villager the name of one villager who was out on the streets (per the Night Watchman rule). The named villager shall be selected at random from the list by a means of the Mayor’s choosing, and this random selection shall occur once for each living villager (so each living villager learns of one name on the list, but each has a chance of learning of a different name). The Master of Hounds learns of three names on the list (instead of one).
When the hounds are penned, the Master of Hounds may pen them outside the house of a living villager of their choice (themselves unless otherwise specified). The name of the villager whose house the hounds are penned outside of should be sent to the Mayor privately. If a villager who has hounds penned outside his house is targeted by a werewolf (or if they are a werewolf and they target another player) the hounds begin to howl, alerting the village and preventing that targeting. The Mayor shall then make a story post which identifies the name of the villager who has the hounds penned outside their house.

Proposal: Known Unknowns

Reached quorum, 14 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

[ Just a mechanism to stop a boring “kill all the werewolves, whoever they are” Town Meeting from having any effect, on the off-chance that one got through before I could veto it. ]

To Rule 2.1 (Life in Zahndorf), add:-

If a passed proposal would require the Mayor to reveal, change or act on the Werewolf state of any Villagers, and the Mayor himself did not cast a vote on the proposal, then he may choose not to perform the action required.

Proposal: Deathbed Confession

Timed out, passed 11 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 01 Nov 2007 04:19:27 UTC

Repeal Rule 2.10 (Wills) and create a new subrule of Rule 2.1.1, called “The Solicitor”:-

Any Villager who is alive may email the Solicitor (if one exists, and if their email address is known) to specify or update their own last will and testament. This shall be a set of instructions for distributing their own possessions upon their death, as well as any statements the Villager would wish to be known after their death.

If a Villager is Dead, the Solicitor may (so long as they are alive) post their own interpretation of the deceased’s will to the BlogNomic blog, and distribute the Villager’s Inventory as they see fit. (If a Villager had specified no will, the Solicitor is free to make one up.)

A Somewhat Belated Arrival Post

I wanted to delay this until I got my info from Kevan.  Read into that what you will.

Arriving at the village of Zahndorf one sunny afternoon, the locksmith Oracular Rufio makes her way to the town hall.  Despite the warm weather, the remaining government officials seem tense and worried.  Rufio greets them with a smile.  “Condolences on the recent death of your Mayor,” she begins.  “I have heard news that this small peaceful town has been plagued by a rather… odd… criminal element in the recent weeks.  There has been some panicking, some lynching, some disorganization.  Now, I’m not a specialist in silver, and I am not a believer in the more superstitious solutions to the more eclectic varieties of crime, but in my long experience with my trade, I have found that violent discontents of all kinds can often be stopped by nothing more fancy than a good solid lock.  Far be it from me to tell the town how to police its own streets, but I would have it be known that I can provide protection, in the form of locks and deadbolts of all kinds, to the local populace.  For a fee, of course.”

I have some ideas for how to work this into the game mechanics, but I’d like some feedback from y’all.  Obviously we can start with giving the locksmith the power to make locks, similar to the rules for the swordsmith and the gunsmith that are already in the ruleset.  As far as the actual protection goes, I was thinking of doing something along the lines of, one lock in your inventory has X% chance of stopping 1 werewolf, e.g. if X = 50 than one lock has a 25% chance of stopping two werewolves, and two locks has a 50% chance of the same.  The chance decreases with increased numbers of werewolves and increases with increased numbers of locks.  Obviously, if someone is protected from a werewolf attack by his locks, he will be aware that he was attacked, but not by whom.

So the question is, what do you guys think is a fair value for X, and how can this probability equation be represented in the ruleset?

Proposal: Say hello to my little friend

reached quorum, failed 1-11, failed by aaronwinborn

Adminned at 31 Oct 2007 10:34:55 UTC

Part A—

Proposed new dynastic rule: “Weapons”, as follows:

Any living Villager (other than one who has a Religious occupation) who has in his Inventory at least one Gun and at least one Silver Bullet (such Villager, a “Gunman”) may, as a weekly action, kill any other living Villager (the “Victim”) as follows: the Gunman makes a story post announcing that he has shot the Victim, and edits the GNDT to reduce the number of Silver Bullets in his (the Gunman’s) possession by one.  Thereafter (subject to any intervening action that causes the Victim to become Dead sooner), the Victim becomes Dead upon the earlier to occur of (A) the Mayor making a story post acknowledging that the Victim has died, or (B) 48 hours pass since the Gunman made his story post.  However, even if the Gunman announts that he has shot the Victim, the Victim will not thereby die if (A) at the time the Gunman posted the story post, the Victim was the Doctor’s “target” within the meaning of the “Doctor” subrule (in which case either the Doctor or the Mayor will announce that the Victim had been the Doctor’s “target” ; or (B) before the Target dies by operation of the previous sentence, the Doctor makes a story post announcing that the Doctor has treated the Victim.  If the Victim is shot but does not die, the Victim gains one Silver Bullet in his Inventory.

Part B—

Add to the rule “Items” a new subrule: “Mayor’s Items”, as follows:

All items in the Mayor’s inventory belong to the Zahndorf government. A duly adopted Town Meeting proposal may cause any item in the Mayor’s inventory to be transferred to such Villager as the Town Meeting proposal directs.

Part C—

Transfer all of Amnistar’s Silver Bullets, Amnistar’s Gun, and all of Spikebrennan’s Silver Bullets in existence at the time of adoption of this Proposal, to the Mayor.

Boring Place

It was the middle of the day. The sun was shining, the dogs were barking and the chickens were… making whatever sounds they make. But as the lowly peasant Hockeyruler moved through the town, he was struck by how few human voices there were. He could hear the sound of a hammer from the Tinsmith’s house, a gong from the bellfounder’s workshop, and if he listened closely the quiet snick from the tailor’s sewing. Yet no where did he hear human voices. He went into house after house seeing if this city had more than a few active inhabitants. There definitely were people living. Doing quiet jobs or relaxing. Yet he found no smiles. As he went down the main street again it came to him. What this town needed was a jester! Donning his jester hat (which he kept at an easy access in his breast pocket) he strolled down the street informing the town of their new entertainer.

Hockeyruler = Jester

Of Silver and Wolfsbane

Long into the night, the Alchemist studies the bodies of all the deceased. Carefully taking samples of blood, skin and teeth, he performs tests on them all. The first bodies of the dead, that of the Mayor and of the Gunsmith, nothing abnormal is found. The two upstanding members of the town who were killed by werewolves were perfectly human. The only wolfish things found were bits of inhuman skin and hair under the Mayor’s fingernails, apparently from when he did his best to fight off the attack and on the Gunsmith, who was slashed from behind when going for his gun, had a broken claw fragment embedded in his shoulder.

Then, he moved onto the body of the Actuary, hung by the vengeful townfolk of Zanhdorf who wanted blood spilt to avenge the death of the Mayor and the Gunsmith. The alchemist took the blood sample and sprinkled bits of silver into it. If the late Bucky was a werewolf, it would boil and bubble. He took some skin samples and rubbed a mixture of crushed wolfbane and a gel base over it. It would turn red if it was the skin of a werewolf. The alchemist watches the results, then leaps back in horror, then runs into the street, shouting about what he has found.

Bucky was human! Bucky wasn’t a werewolf at all! Bucky was a human! You’ve killed an innocent man!

His shouts pierce the night sharply, though deadened from echo by the snow fall. Bucky the Actuary was human after all.

Proposal: What’s a man to do? (Take two!)

Can’t reach quorum with eleven votes against. Failed by Kevan.

Create a new sub-rule of the “Occupations” rule titled “Specific Occupations” with the following text:

The Bailiff (if living) may make a story post titled “Execution” if there is currently a prisoner. Unless at least two other living villagers respond to that post with an AGAINST voting icon with the next 24 hours, then the status of the prisoner becomes Dead.

As a weekly action, the Priest (if living) may create one Holy Water item in the possession of any villager who does not already have Holy Water

Any villager may include the word “Exceptions:” with their vote followed by a list of one or more occupations. When this proposal passes, if more than half of the FOR votes list an occupation as an exception, then the paragraph(s) detailing that occupation is removed from the above ruletext.

Arrival

Upon arriving at the village, Dr. Zed was confused, he felt as though he didn’t know where to go, or what to do. The village seemed interesting, yet daunting, the people looked at him as though he was a stranger - there were no friends here was his impression. Then, suddenly he was greeted by a friendly face (so he thought)...

Call for Judgment: Broken References

Reached a Quorum of FOR votes.

—Hix

Adminned at 29 Oct 2007 07:01:21 UTC

This is a CfJ of the “Villager feels that an aspect of the game needs urgent attention” type.

In the Dynastic Rules, there are currently 2 references to other rules by number, one of which is now incorrect.  It could be a nightmare trying to backtrack and see which game actions technically were not allowed, or which proposals should have had no effect because of “If a Proposal refers to a Rule by number and that Rule has been renumbered since the Proposal posting, that Proposal does nothing if enacted.” from Rule “Ruleset and Gamestate”.  Also, the incident that caused the faulty reference is of dubious legality.  It is probably technically legal, but we obviously shouldn’t encourage its use again.

If this Call for Judgment passes, the Gamestate and Ruleset shall be amended as specified hereafter:

In the rule “The Night Watchman”, replace “Rule 2.2” with “the Rule called ‘Werewolves’”.

In the rule “Acuity Points”, replace “Rule 2.3” with “the Rule called ‘Werewolves’”.

For the purposes of determining whether game actions that have already been taken were/are legal, it shall be assumed that the above amended references to a rule by number have always referred to the rule called “Werewolves”.

For the purposes of determining what the correct effects of Enacted Proposals that referred to rules by number should have been, it shall be assumed that it was perfectly legal for Chivalrybean to have, while adminning “Proposal: Silver Bullets for All”, added the rule “Silver Bullets” between two already existing rules, thus altering most of the already-existing rule numbers.

No proposals which have already been Enacted this Dynasty shall be retroactively considered to have no effect due to the provisions in the Rule “Ruleset and Gamestate”.

For the purposes of determining how badly the offending admin should be mocked when adding rules somewhere other than at the end of the appropriate section , rule, subrule, etc. (unless otherwise instructed), the following shall be the guideline:  If there are no rules or pending proposals that depend on the current numbering, and if the non-standard rule placement has some particular organizational advantage, then the mocking should not occur.  Otherwise mocking should occur, with the most severe mocking reserved for game-breaking results.

Proposal: Swords and Grammar

reached quorum, passed 12-1, enacted by aaronwinborn

Adminned at 29 Oct 2007 18:03:01 UTC

Title says it all.  Here are the swords:

In the rule Items, add a subrule Swords

As a weekly action, assuming it’s currently daytime, the swordsmith may make a single sword for his own possession, if the swordsmith has held the swordsmith occupation for at least a full week.

Having a sword gives the villager who possesses it a limited version of the Military ability, so if they are ever attacked by the Werewolves, the Mayor rolls 1DICE20. On a result of 10-20 the target continues as normal. On a result of 4-9 the villager escapes, but no further actions are required, and the targets of all werewolves are change to no one. On a result of 1-3 the villager escapes with a clue as to the identity of the werewolves. This clue consists of a single letter which is in the name of one of the werewolves.

And the grammar:

In the rule Hair, change the text

The status of having a Hairy Back shall not be tracked in the GNDT

to

The status of having a Hairy Back shall not be tracked in the GNDT.

Just adding a period where there should be one with the grammar.

Proposal: Haunting Werewolves

timed out, passed 9-0, enacted by aaronwinborn

Adminned at 29 Oct 2007 17:59:51 UTC

If there is a rule called “Ghost”, then append the following text to that rule:

If the haunted target of a ghost is a werewolf, and the ghost has haunted that target for at least a day, then once during each consecutive nighttime period of haunting, there is a 1 in 5 chance (as determined by the mayor) that the ghost will witness the villager transform into a werewolf, in which case the Mayor shall privately communicate that to the ghost.

If there is a sub-rule called “Werewolf Prisoners,” then remove that sub-rule.

Add a new sub-rule to 2.3 (Werewolves) called “Werewolf Prisoners”:

During any nightime period, if a living werewolf has an occupation of prisoner, then the Night Watchman, and each of the villagers who possess a set of Gaol Keys, each (assuming their status is Alive) have a 1 in 6 chance to witness the villager transform into a werewolf, as determined by the Mayor, who will notify the werewolf and each witness of the results.

Proposal: Flips!

Self-killed, cannot reach quorum (0 - a gazillion)
Failed by Hix

Adminned at 29 Oct 2007 12:39:36 UTC

Add a new dynastic Rule entitled “Jester” (if there is a subrule entitled “Specific Occupations”, the proposed rule below can be added to that subrule), as follows:

If a Villager has the Occupation “Jester” then he may, as a Weekly Action, “Flip” any living Villager other than emself.  To “Flip” a Villager, the Jester sends a private email message to (i) the Mayor, (ii) the Villager that the Jester is Flipping, and (iii) at least one other Villager (whether living or dead) who is not the Jester, the Mayor or the Villager (the “Witness”) that the Jester is Flipping.  (The Jester should send two email messages, both identifying the target Villager: the first to both the target Villager and the Mayor, and the second to both the Witness and the Mayor—that way, the Witness knows who the target Villager is, but the target Villager does not necessarily know who the Witness is, and the Mayor can be certain that all three requisite message recipients have received their messages.)  The Mayor must then send a private acknowledgement email to the Jester and the Villager whom the Villager flipped.  The effect of “Flipping” a Villager is to reverse the target Villager’s Werewolf status (if e was a Werewolf, e ceases to be a Werewolf, and if e was not a Werewolf, e becomes a Werewolf), effective upon the Mayor sending the confirmatory email.

Proposal: Hell’s Conference Room

Proposal: Patient Doctor Confidance

time out, failed 3-7 by aaronwinborn

Adminned at 29 Oct 2007 11:01:11 UTC

In the rule Doctor, change the text

If a villager is the Doctor, e may secretly tell the mayor of a villager who is their target. If their target would otherwise have been killed by a werewolf attack, the doctor instead saves the villager from death. The Doctor may not target the same villager more than two nights in a row.

to

If a villager is the Doctor, e may secretly tell the mayor of a villager who is their target. If their target would otherwise have been killed by a werewolf attack, the doctor instead saves the villager from death. The mayor shall then secretly send an email to the doctor and the saved villager telling them of the events of the night, but if a public post is made by the mayor about a night when someone was saved, the mayor shall not state that the villager was saved by the doctor. A living villager saved by the doctor may make public any information they wish in reguards to when they were saved. The Doctor may not. The Doctor may not target the same villager more than two nights in a row.

Error

I enacted the town meeting to toss Bucky in jail before it was legal, but it would have had no effect anyways, pass or fail, for Bucky has already passed on. I shall be more careful in the future.

Proposal: Commune with the Dead take 2

time out, passed 8-4—the ‘seance’ bit only had 3 votes, so was not enacted. the first part enacted by aaronwinborn.

Adminned at 29 Oct 2007 11:00:09 UTC

Create a new rule called “Ghost” with the text:

Any village that is Dead is considered a Ghost.  A Ghost may privately email the Mayor announcing their intention to haunt a named Villager, in an email with the subject “Haunting [Villager Name]” - upon reception of the email, this Villager becomes that Ghost’s target.

Whenever a Ghost’s target is killed by Werewolves as a result of Rule 2.2, the Mayor will email the Ghost (if there is one, and if they are still alive) with an alphabetised list of Villagers who the Ghost has seen on the streets that night. This list shall consist of a random Werewolf involved in the attack, plus a N other randomly selected villagers where N is half(rounded up) of all living Villagers, excluding the previously selected werewolf.

If more than half the votes contain the text “I Like the Seance”
Create a sub-rule of the rule Ghost “Seance”

During the immediately following night time period after a werewolf has slain a villager, any living villager may make a Town Meeting Seance proposal by posting a proposal with the phrase ‘Town Meeting Seance’ in its title, so long as there isn’t already a pending Town Meeting Seance proposal. Any Villager that votes in the Town Meeting Seance, may post a single question to a Ghost, by including in their vote the phrase “I ask “Ghost” “Question”,  where “Ghost” is the name of any Ghost and “Question” Is any question.  If the Seance is successful, a story post is made (by the enacting admin) with the title “Seance Results” and the contents of the post will contain each question asked at the previous seance.  Each Ghost may respond to each question that was ask of them, with a single word, and may not post any other information.

obviously in rough draft form, but it allows people to communicate beyond the grave…somewhat…I expect this proposal to fail, but with the idea out there, perhaps someone will be able to pick up on the concept and rephrase to suit our needs.

Proposal: Werewolf Prisoners

s/k, admin by aaronwinborn

Adminned at 29 Oct 2007 10:53:31 UTC

Add a sub-rule to 2.3 (Werewolves), called ‘Werewolf Prisoners’:

During any nightime period, if a living werewolf has an occupation of prisoner, there is a 50% chance that he will temporarily visibly change into a werewolf at some point during the night. In such case, the Night Watchman, and each of the villagers who possess a set of Gaol Keys, each have a 1 in 3 chance to witness the change (assuming their status is Alive at the time), as determined by the Mayor, who will notify the werewolf and each witness of the results.

Add the following to rule 2.1.1.4 (Gaol):

If a prisoner has a set of Gaol Keys, then they shall be placed into possession of the other villager with a set of Gaol Keys. If a prisoner has both sets of Gaol Keys, then they shall be placed into possession of the mayor.

Um.

I seem to have lost my wiki password, and I apparently neglected to register my email address when I signed up.  Is there any way I could get the password or possibly just register again?

Proposal: Treasury Use and Merchant Taxes

s/k, admin by aaronwinborn

Adminned at 29 Oct 2007 10:52:39 UTC

I think we need to have a use for the treasury.  And, with that, basic taxes.

Change the text

2.1.1.3 Gaol>

so it reads

2.1.1.4 Gaol

Add to 2.1.1 Occupations:

2.1.1.3 Merchant Occupations

For every Villager who has an Occupation that is listed in the “Merchants” section of the linked page, Zahndorf gains an amount of pfennigs per day equal to the amount of living, non-prisoner villagers times the result of a roll of 2DICE20.

Add to 2.6 Treasury:

2.6.1 Treasury Uses

Zahndorf has a very small treasury. Pfennigs from the treasury may be used only once every 10 days.

To use the treasury money, you have to start a town meeting for that use.

You can ask to erect temporary walls around Zahndorf.  If the town meeting passes, 800,000 pfennigs are removed from the treasury.  When there is a werewolf attack, roll 1DICE20.  If the result is 12-20, the walls stop the attack, and fall down.  If the result is 1-11, the attack succeeds.  The walls are still destroyed if the attack would fail anyway.  The walls fall down in two days, if they are not destroyed already.

How does this sound?

A new tailor

Rodlen calls some people over.

“Hello, citizens of Zahndorf.  I have heard about some clothing problems here.  Big holes, claw marks, and such.  What is going on here anyway!?!  Well, I have come to help you all.  I am here to be the tailor of this town.”

Rodlen becomes a tailor

A random guy comes in to town

Well, some random guy comes in to town, calls himself Rodlen, and then wanders around.

Yep.

Proposal: Town Meeting: The Coming of the Archbishop

time out, passed 7-2-1, enacted by aaronwinborn

Adminned at 29 Oct 2007 10:47:17 UTC

Rising early, the newcomer BobTHJ walks through the streets of the small village to the town hall. “Greetings Zhandorfians, in the name of the holy church!” He calls in a loud voice. “I come here under the authority of the Most High to put and end to these murders and bring the culprit to justice! Those who comply with my investigation shall surely be blessed.” Pulling back his holy robes he reveals his hairless back. “Let it be known that I can be trusted.”

BobTHJ’s occupation becomes “Archbishop”.

The recently deceased Mayor can confirm that my back is hairless. I will gladly share any and all information I uncover during my investigations with those who vote for this proposal.

Proposal: I can’t get that image out of my head

time out, passed 6-4-2, enacted by aaronwinborn

Adminned at 29 Oct 2007 10:37:30 UTC

(shudders)  It was horrifying!  Grotesque!  I’ll never get the image of that back hair out of my mind!

Part 1:
Proposal to amend the sentence in the rule “Hair” that presently reads:

The status of having a Hairy Back shall not be tracked in the GNDT

so that it reads:

The GNDT shall display the “Hairy Back” status of each Villager, and only that of each Villager, whose Hairy Back status has been publicly announced by the Mayor in accordance with the Rules or a validly-adopted Town Meeting proposal.

Part 2:
Upon the adoption of this Proposal, a new GNDT column shall be created, entitled “Back hair”.  If prior to the adoption of this Proposal the Hairy Back status of any Villager has been revealed by the Mayor, it shall be tracked on the GNDT as “Hairy” or “Clean”.  Any Villager whose Hairy Back status has not been revealed by the Mayor shall be tracked as “-”.  (The intent here is to obviate the need to dig for that old story post.)  Please note that this proposal does not, in and of itself, require that any new information be revealed that has not already been revealed elsewhere.

Wish I’d seen this dynasty sooner…

*Tries not the look like a werewolf*  I’d like to unidle.

For post office purposes, my email is dragonflykes at gmail.  (Or do I just add it to the wiki page myself?)

Proposal: Calling Houdini

time out, failed 1-7-1 by aaronwinborn

Adminned at 28 Oct 2007 12:41:45 UTC

Make a new rule titled “Mystic”, reading:

If there is currently no Mystic, the Mayor shall select one living, Non-Werewolf villager by whatever method e chooses. The selected villager becomes the Mystic, and the Mayor shall notify them of their new status. The status of Mystic is not an occupation and, therefore, not tracked in the GNDT.
The Mystic should immediately contact each dead villager upon becoming the Mystic, and should immediatly contact each newly dead villager upon their death. Should any dead villager doubt the truthfulness of any communication claiming to be from the Mystic, e may contact the Mayor and ask for a confirmation of the identity of the Mystic.

Change the rule “Dead Men Tell No Tales” from:

A Dead Villager, except for the Mayor, may not reveal any information that he learned, made up, or other wise acquired about another villager, or any relevant information about himself that was not revealed before he became dead. This includes, but is not limited to, whether or not he or another villager was or is a werewolf; what another villager may have told him through private conversation; or even logical deduction about the roles of the other players based on the circumstances of the game.

to read:

A Dead Villager, except for the Mayor, may not reveal any information that he learned, made up, or other wise acquired about another villager, or any relevant information about himself that was not revealed before he became dead. This includes, but is not limited to, whether or not he or another villager was or is a werewolf; what another villager may have told him through private conversation; or even logical deduction about the roles of the other players based on the circumstances of the game.

However, this restriction does not apply to private communication between a dead Villager and the Mystic, or private communication between dead villagers.

This proposal is intended to give the dead something to do in-game, without involving too much effort on the part of the other Villagers.

In rule 2.3 “Werewolves”, modify

If it is Nighttime, if no Werewolves are Prisoners, if two or more living Werewolves have the same target, if those Werewolves have not killed anyone since the most recent Daytime and if their target is still Alive and not a Prisioner, then the Mayor may post a blog entry announcing that their target has been killed. That Villager is now Dead.

That Villager is now Dead.

Snowfall

Zahndorf awakens to a blanket of thick snow, this morning, hampering movement around the village, and making the potential tracks of werewolves all too obvious. The villagers will be safe, at least for tonight.

[ Unthematically: There’s an almost-definite chance that I won’t be able to get online at all tomorrow, and so won’t be able to process any nighttime events. It seems fair to warn both the werewolves and the humans that this is going to be the case. ]

Proposal: Commune with the dead

Timed out (5-8)
Failed by Hix.

Adminned at 27 Oct 2007 19:54:37 UTC

If that proposal passes, then Mayor will make a story post with the title “Seance Results” and a text which will include 1DICEX Ghost’s names, where X is either the number of people who voted FOR on the Town Meeting Seance, or the current number of Dead Villagers (whichever is smaller), determined randomly by the Mayor.  Those Ghost may each post 1 name in the comments.

obviously in rough draft form, but it allows people to communicate beyond the grave…somewhat…I expect this proposal to fail, but with the idea out there, perhaps someone will be able to pick up on the concept and rephrase to suit our needs.

Interactivity for the deceased

IS there any way that people can think of that we could somehow involve the deceased in the gameplay for this nomic?  I ask because as a deceased I have nothing which will keep me around as a play, and am seriously considering idling out until the next nomic, simply because nothing effects me in this game at all anymore.  I don’t think that raising from the dead is the answer but maybe some kind of spirit summoning? or an ghost rule?  Maybe dead villagers can haunt people and thereby observe their activities or something along those lines?

Proposal: Town Meeting:Can we renegotiate this lynching?

Passed, a bit late for the late Bucky. No effect. 8-0-2 Enacted by Chivalrybean

Adminned at 27 Oct 2007 10:08:42 UTC

If Bucky is still alive, change his occupation to Prisoner.

This alternative to outright killing is beneficial to the Humans no matter what.  If I were a werewolf, jailing me would prevent the remaining werewolves from killing, no matter how many there are.  But when the killings continue, we’ve got one more non-werewolf human around.

A Newcomer in the Night

Inquisitor BobTHJ carefully guides his horse down the narrow road into the valley. The town of Zahndorf lies just ahead. In the darkness of night he can see lamplights in the windows of several residences.

It had been several months since he last visited the village. When the church learned of the recent murders in the small village, they had no choice but to send a member of the cloth to investigate. BobTHJ knew of the task that lied ahead of him. The villagers might not readily accept the religious authority with which he arrived. But for now it was time to rest. There would be plenty of time to meet at the town hall and conduct his investigation in the morning. With a steady hand, he guides his horse toward the inn…

Please un-idle me!

I’ve arrived

apparently i’ve just arrived. So i’m here! and apparently i’m also supposed to announce this.

One Q though, whats an aquity point? or whatever it was. And to win you want to either have all werewolves or all humans? depending which you are…

i’m all confused.

Proposal: What’s up Doc?

Passed 6-2 Enacted by Chivalrybean

Adminned at 27 Oct 2007 10:06:29 UTC

Create a new subrule in the rule Occupations named Doctor. Set its text to the following:

If a villager is the Doctor, e may secretly tell the mayor of a villager who is their target. If their target would otherwise have been killed by a werewolf attack, the doctor instead saves the villager from death. The Doctor may not target the same villager more than two nights in a row.

I made my previous post a proposal before I remember it was illegal (rules say commented, not voted, for changing to an official post. I tried to change it back, but I don’t know that it took.)

Proposal: Doctor Who?

Illegal under Rule 1.7 (“A non-official post may not, through editing of the blog or otherwise, be changed into an official post”) - it was proposed without a category, and already had one comment by the time it was recategorised.—Kevan

Fixes the multiple doctor problem, as well as the invincible mode bug. Next: Should the survival from death be noted publicly as the doctors doing? In normal mafia it’s obvious, here, with multiple werewolves (who seem to be communicating well), it might be less apparent.

If a villager is the Doctor, e may secretly tell the mayor of a villager who is their target. If their target would otherwise have been killed by a werewolf attack, the doctor instead saves the villager from death. If the town has no doctor, the mayor shall randomly select one living, non-werewolf, non-night watchman villager to be the doctor, and secretly inform the villager of their doctor status.

In the rule Night Watchman, change the text

If there is currently no Night Watchman, the Mayor shall randomly select one Living, non-Werewolf Villager, and secretly notify that villager of their new status

to

If there is currently no Night Watchman, the Mayor shall randomly select one Living, non-Werewolf, non-doctor Villager, and secretly notify that villager of their new status

Blood Red Tape

At the time of writing, the oldest proposal in the town ledgers is still awaiting votes from nine players, including seven who have been active elsewhere in the village since its proposal. (These seven are Bucky, Chivalrybean, Clucky, Hix, Igthorn, Rodney and Tesla4D.)

Since the proposal queue also includes town meetings to arrange the lynching of suspected werewolves, remembering to vote on all proposals when you pass the town hall can mean the difference between life and death for your fellow citizens. If you’re afraid of too much being read into your voting patterns, a simple “deferential” vote should cover you, and keep the business of the village active.

Add a subrule to Rule 2.1.1 (Occupations), called “Alchemical Studies”:-

The Alchemist is able to perform autopsies on villagers who have died. Through the careful application and slow observation of certain herbs and metals, it is possible to determine whether a corpse is that of a werewolf, or of a normal human.

The Alchemist may email the Mayor to announce that they are performing an autopsy on any number of dead villagers. The Mayor shall privately respond, revealing the nature of each such villager.

(This is an occupation that’s already held by someone, but if people don’t trust the current Alchemist, they can easily hold a meeting to replace him.)

Story Post: Death of the Gunsmith

The gunsmith works late into the night, lit only by the red glow of the furnace, picking over the disassembled gun from Blutwald and shaping damp sand to match the contours of its components. Lost in the details, he doesn’t notice the movement in the street outside, and by the time the workshop’s doors crash open, it’s too late to grab the ammunition from the silversmith, too late to do anything.

Amnistar the gunsmith is dead.

Proposal: Werewills

Passed 5-1 Enacted by Chivalrybean

Adminned at 26 Oct 2007 22:06:10 UTC

Create a new page on the wiki, titled “Wills.”

Add a new rule called “Wills” with the following text:

Any Villager who is Alive may edit (or, if it does not exist, create) a subsection titled after their name on this wiki page.  Within it, they may designate a single other Villager to receive the full contents of their Inventory upon their death, or may designate multiple Villagers for specific items they possess.  If the Villager or Villagers so designated are Alive, they may take the item or items assigned to them from the willing Villager’s Inventory and add it to their own at any time after the willing Villager becomes Dead.

Proposal: Town Meeting: Get HIM!

Drags inexorably to enactment, 5-4-1.  Brendan

Adminned at 26 Oct 2007 15:28:25 UTC

If this proposal Passes, change the life of Bucky from Alive to dead.

The Arguments I find that support the theory that Bucky is a werewolf:

-He was the first to respond to the “werewolf” emails then attempts to cover it up with a feeble attempt at stating his intention was to track ip adresses (which can easily be faked by anyone computer literate, which most of us are.
-I have learned from the Watchman that he was seen on the streets the night that the Mayor was murdered.
-His back is harry which, according to the calculations put forth by Hix, gives him a 2/7 chance of being a werewolf

What say ye fellow villagers of Zahndorf?

Proposal: Dead Man’s last will

Self-killed.  Brendan

Adminned at 26 Oct 2007 15:28:01 UTC

Add a new rule titled The Will:

When a villager holding any items has e’s status changed to dead, e is allowed to make a story post in the form of a will detailing who e wants to give what items to. If some or all of the items are not listed in the will, execpt gaol keys, they are considered buried with the body and are destoryed.

If Town Meeting:Jailor fails add the following:

If any gaol keys are left unclaimed, then they shall be given away at a town meeting by a vote.

This is because there isn’t anyway to get most items off a dead player right now.

Proposal: Town Meeting: Jailor

Passes 8-0.  Darknight has 2 nominations, and I have 2 or 3 depending on your reading; nobody else has more than 1.  Brendan

Adminned at 26 Oct 2007 15:27:00 UTC

We have a jail, but no jailor! And the keys to the jail are buried with the late Mayor!

If this proposal passes, then each living Villager may nominate up to two Villagers by making a comment to the proposal with the text “*Name* for Jailor”, where *Name* is the name of any Villager with the Status Alive.  Only the most recent comment of each Villager will be counted for nominations in this proposal, and a Villager may not nominate any Villager more than once in a single comment. If a Villager’s Status is Dead at the time of the proposal’s enactment, or if he has nominated more than two villagers, then his nominations will not be counted.

On enactment, the two live villagers receiving the most nominations shall receive a set of Gaol keys from the late mayor. If there is at least one clear winner, but more than one tied for second place, then only the villager with the most nominations will receive a key. If three or more villagers are tied for most nominations, then no one receives a key. Any keys not redistributed by this proposal remain in possession of the late Mayor.

Proposal: The Rule of the Mob

Self-Killed. Admined by Chivalrybean

Adminned at 26 Oct 2007 17:29:59 UTC

Add a new rule, ‘The Rule of the Mob’:

During the immediately following daytime period after a werewolf has slain a villager, any living villager may make a Town Meeting Lynching proposal by posting a proposal with the phrase ‘Town Meeting Lynching’ in its title, so long as there isn’t already a pending Town Meeting Lynching proposal. If that proposal passes, then each living Villager may cast suspicion on any number of other Villagers by making a comment to the proposal with the text “I suspect *Name*”, where *Name* is the name of any Villager with the Status Alive.  Only the most recent comment of each Villager will be counted for suspicions in this proposal, and a Villager may not cast Suspicion on any Villager more than once in a single comment. If a Villager’s Status is Dead at the time of that proposal’s enactment, then his suspicions will not be counted.

If the Town Meeting Lynching proposal passes, then change the status of the villager with the most suspicions cast against them at the time of that proposal’s enactment from alive to dead.  In the event that there is a tie for which Villager has the most suspicions cast against them, that proposal has no effect.

If the proposal ‘The Future of Zahndorf’ passes, then add the following sentence to the end of ‘The Rule of the Mob’:

No acuity points shall be awarded to anyone by the death of a villager directly (as determined by the Mayor) due to a Town Meeting Lynching proposal.

Possibly Victory Ideas

I have an idea about how we could do an interesting mafia/nomic combination for winning.  Since the mayor is dead, it makes sense that the people of the town would elect a new one.  Thus, let us have a rule concerning the “election” which presents the possibility that we can somehow have people “in the running” for mayor, and they pull in votes.  Cunning werewolves can pick off opposing candidates and the town can lynch those which they think are werewolves trying to take over the city.  Set some kind of goal which is trackable (perhaps having a certain percentage of the village supporting your efforts for a certain period of time?) that we can use to measure how close someone is to winning?

Story Post: Back Hair Inspection

A freezing October morning, and the recalcitrant citizens of Zahndorf are cajoled into meeting in the town hall for a back hair inspection. You stand in a circle with your backs to each other, and the smocks and aprons come off.

Looking over your shoulders, the only villagers with remarkable back hair are Amnistar, Clucky, Rodney, Tesla4D and Zaratustra.

(The Mayor didn’t have much left when you buried his remains, but he definitely didn’t have a hairy back.)

Confessions of a spy

I’d been hoping to leave the werewolves in the dark about this, but the Town Meeting forces me to bring out my own methods in self defense.

The e-mail I sent out after the first zhandwolf e-mail was a ploy to get everyone involved to send me a message so that I’d get the IP address of their local mail server.  Unfortunately, gmail forwards its messages along its own private network, so results there are limited.

However, Yahoo! mail doesn’t even attempt to hide the IP address of the sender.  A quick inspection of the e-mail headers shows that the zhandwolf e-mail originated in New York while my own mass e-mail in response originated in Texas.  Anyone who got both e-mails should be able to confirm this.  And while it’s apparently possible to fake the sender’s IP address, Yahoo! mail uses software that alerts you when this happens.

Proposal: The Future of Zahndorf

Timed out. Passed 8-3. Enacted by Chivalrybean

Adminned at 25 Oct 2007 17:57:28 UTC

[ Suggesting a possible victory condition. ]

Add a new Rule, “Acuity Points”:-

Whenever a non-Werewolf Villager is killed under Rule 2.3, the Mayor shall secretly award each of their killers an Acuity Point. Whenever a Werewolf is killed as the direct result of a Town Meeting (where “direct” is in the opinion of the Mayor), the Villager who called the meeting and all who voted in favour of it shall be secretly awarded an Acuity Point.

If all living Villagers are Werewolves, or all living Villagers are not Werewolves, then the Mayor may post a blog entry announcing this, and listing the Acuity Points of all living and dead Villagers. Following that post, the living Villager with the most Acuity Points, if there is one, may declare victory and assume the running of the village.

is amended to read:

“If there is currently no Night Watchman, the Mayor shall randomly select one Living, non-Werewolf Villager, and secretly notify that villager of their new status, however notwithstanding anything to the contrary in this rule, if the Night Watchman becomes Dead by operation of a proposal or town meeting and not by a werewolf attack, then the Villager who made that proposal or called that town meeting becomes the new Night Watchman, and the Mayor shall make a story post identifying the previous Night Watchman.”

Proposal: Town Meeting: Avenge the Mayor

Self-killed by a corpse. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 25 Oct 2007 09:17:34 UTC

Whereas the death of the mayor is a despicable thing, and the peoples of Zhandorf loved him greatly, I say that we need vengance!  Someone in this village is responsible for his death and someone needs to pay! I say we take our pitchforks to the one who was responsible for this!

Change the status of the villager with the most suspicions cast against them at the time of this proposals enactment from alive to dead.  In the event that there is a tie for which Villager has the most suspicions cast against them this proposal has no effect.

Each Villager may cast suspicion on any number of other Villagers by making a comment with the text “I suspect *Name*” Where *Name* is the name of any Villager with the Status Alive.  Only the most recent comment of each Villager will be counted for this proposal, and a Villager may not cast Suspiscion on any Villager more than once in a single comment.

The mayor shall keep track of the number of game nights that have passed. On the 14th night and every 28 nights thereafter it will be fullmoon. The mayor will indicate that it is a fullmoon by making an appropriate post.

Create a new subrule:

2.3.2 Death Visits Eventually
During a night when it is a fullmoon, if there are any werewolves that are alive and not in prison then the mayor will randomly select a villager from the targets selected by the free and alive werewolves. This villager is now Dead and the mayor must make a post indicating this.

The Mayor shall then make a story post revealing the Hairy Back status of the three Villagers named in the most “Show Me” requests.  In the event of a four-or-more-way tie, the Mayor shall reveal the Hairy Back status of all Villagers so tied.

A Death in the Village

A shout from the street, and quick footsteps across cobblestones. A crash of rolling bottles, and snarls in the darkness. “What are you doing? Don’t you see? I’m the only one who…”

Heavy sets of claws click faster across the square, before springing into a moment’s silence, and bringing something down with a wet and leaden thud.

The Mayor is dead.

Proposal: I’ve got a neck feeling about this again

Passed 8-0.  Brendan

Adminned at 24 Oct 2007 15:13:34 UTC

If the rule “Neck Hair” does not exist, create it as a subrule of “Hair.”

Set the text of the rule “Neck Hair” to the following:

At any point during the Day in Zahndorf, the Mayor may take note of which Villagers were targeted by at least one Werewolf during the previous Night.  The Mayor should then determine randomly whether each of these Villagers had the hair on the back of their neck stand up; the chance is 50% if the Villager has a Hairy Back, and 25% if the Villager does not. Finally, the Mayor should privately notify any Villagers who had the hair on the back of their necks stand up of this fact, via email or other means.

Whispers in the Night

I heard a baying at the moon the other night. Soon after, I heard a whispering out my window, asking if I were a werewolf. On a hunch, I whispered back, ‘Bucky’.

I hurried to the door, and saw no one, but then saw both Bucky and Shadowclaw walking hurriedly down the street. The next morning, Bucky, looking guilty to me, hurried over and said, ‘I heard a werewolf at my door last night. Did you as well?’ I wouldn’t have suspected him, except that I had seen him that night, and for a streak of blood and tuft of fur on his shirt. I swear if it didn’t seem he had fangs, and his fingernails seemed as claws in the dim light.

If a Villager has an Occupation which is listed in the “Military” section of the linked page, then they are trained in the art of combat, and are able to defend themselves from werewolves, subtracting 2 from the result when attacked.

Add a new subrule to Rule 2.2 (Items), called ‘Silver Bullets’:

If a Villager has a gun in his possession, he is able to defend himself from a werewolf attack, subtracting 1 from the result. If he also has at least one silver bullet in his possession, he subtracts a further 3 from the result, and removes one silver bullet from his possession.

Reword the fourth paragraph of Rule 2.3 (Werewolves) to read:

If it is Nighttime, if no Werewolves are Prisoners, if two or more living Werewolves have the same target, if those Werewolves have not killed anyone since the most recent Daytime, if their target is still Alive, and if the target does not successfully defend himself in accordance to any applicable rules, then the Mayor may post a blog entry announcing that their target has been killed. That Villager is now Dead.

Add a new subrule to Rule 2.3 (Werewolves), called ‘Defense from Werewolves’:

If a villager is able to defend himself from a werewolf attack, due to the effects of any rules, then if attacked by werewolves, the Mayor rolls DICE20, and cumulatively adds or subtracts any modifiers to the result as required by those effects. On a result of 13 or greater, the werewolf attack is processed as normal. On a result of 6-12 the villager escapes, but no further actions are required, and the targets of all werewolves involved in the attack are changed to no one. On a result of 1-5 the villager escapes with a clue as to the identity of the werewolves. This clue consists of a single letter which is in the name of one of the werewolves. On a result of less than 1, the villager manages to kill 1 random werewolf, decided in whatever fashion the Mayor deems acceptable.

Proposal: Town Meeting: Guns for Smythes

Reached reduced quorum of eight, with the death of the Mayor. Enacted by Kevan - a gun is procured for 250,000 pfennings from a neighbouring village, and given to the gunsmith for examination.

Adminned at 23 Oct 2007 10:31:44 UTC

Wherefore as the gunsmythe is a dangerous position, and as the village is in desperate needs of his services, and as he can work more ably with a template, and as he can work more confidentially when not fearful for his lyfe;

Therefore, assuming the Mayor or his agent is able to locate a suitable ware, shall the village purchase, from its coffers at its own expense, a gun to be provided to the villager with a gun related occupation, currently being Amnistar;

Furthermore, up to 500,000 pfennigs shall be allocated towards this purpose as the Mayor sees fit, assuming a suitable ware can be located and purchased for that amount within a reasonable time;

However, should there be more than or fewer than one villager with a gun related occupation at the time this proposal passes, whether due to death or to vacancy or by an eagerness to serve, then therefore shall the gun pass into the possession of the Mayor, to be distributed as he sees fit.

Thus sayeth the goode folke of the village of Zahndorf.

Proposal: Town Meeting: Show me some skin, man!

Self-killed.  Brendan

Adminned at 23 Oct 2007 07:02:29 UTC

Friends… Zahndorfers… villagers… lend me your ears.

I have called this Town Meeting to propose that all Villagers expose their backs.  I have it on good authority that walking among us are (theatrical whisper) werewolves!  Who are they?  No one knows for sure, but my sources tell me that having a hairy back correllates, at least loosely, with being a werewolf!

Think of the children!  Vote your conscience!  Remember the Maine, Plymouth Rock and the Golden Rule!

(If this proposal passes, the Mayor shall update the GNDT to display the Hairy Back status of all villagers).

Proposal: Ever get that feeling?

Passed 9-0.  Brendan

Adminned at 23 Oct 2007 07:00:50 UTC

Create a subrule in the rule Hair titled Neck Hair. It shall contain the following text:

Any time after the time switches from Nighttime to Daytime, any villager who was the target of any werewolf has a 45% chance of the hairs on the back of their neck standing up if the villager is still alive. If this happens, the mayor shall send the villager an email stating such in any way the mayor deems appropriate. The villager shall not be told any information regarding the identity of the werewolf or how many were targeting the villager.

Proposal: Bars work both ways.

Passed 9-1.  Brendan

Adminned at 22 Oct 2007 11:39:36 UTC

In the rule Werewolves, change the text:

If it is Nighttime, if no Werewolves are Prisoners, if two or more living Werewolves have the same target, if those Werewolves have not killed anyone since the most recent Daytime and if their target is still Alive, then the Mayor may post a blog entry announcing that their target has been killed. That Villager is now Dead.

to

If it is Nighttime, if no Werewolves are Prisoners, if two or more living Werewolves have the same target, if those Werewolves have not killed anyone since the most recent Daytime and if their target is still Alive and not a Prisioner, then the Mayor may post a blog entry announcing that their target has been killed. That Villager is now Dead.

Proposal: Assimilation Fever

Failed 4-8 (cannot be passed without CoV).  Brendan

Adminned at 22 Oct 2007 11:38:51 UTC

Add

Rule 2.3.2. Lycanthropy Infection

If, for whatever reason, a villager survives an attack by werewolves, then the mayor must role 1DICE20. If the result is a value from 1to 5 then the mayor must privately inform the villager the e is now a werewolf.

In 2.1.1.2 Military Occupations change the sentence

On a result of 15-20 the target continues as normal.

to

On a result of 15-20 the werewolf attack is processed as normal.

Proposal: To Bare or Not to Bare

Failed 2-8 (cannot be enacted without CoV).  Brendan

Adminned at 22 Oct 2007 11:37:12 UTC

If the Proposal You Are In The Village fails, this proposal does nothing.

In Rule 2.1.1 replace the sentence

Zahndorf has a one-person gaol cell in an annex of the town hall. If a Villager is given the Occupation “Prisoner” (as a result of a Town Meeting, or other means), that means that they are imprisoned in this cell.

with

If a Villager is given the Occupation “Prisoner” (as a result of a Town Meeting, or other means), that means that they are imprisoned in this cell and that the hairiness of their back becomes public knowledge and this is tracked by the GNDT.

and change the sentence in Rule 2.8:

The status of having a Hairy Back shall not be tracked in the GNDT

to

The status of having a Hairy Back shall not be tracked in the GNDT unless the status has become public knowledge as per rule 2.1.1.

In Rule 2.7 (The Night Watchman), replace “This list shall consist of a random living werewolf” with:-

This list shall consist of a random Werewolf involved in the attack

And to tack on an unrelated fix, replace “A Villager may give one of their items” in Rule 2.2 with:-

A living Villager may give one of their items

Back to the village

After one very long trip away, I have returned to the village. Darn job had me rather worn out at the start but now I’m back in the swing. Ready to be unidled, my e-mail that i use most is .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) (IDK where else to put it right now) and if I can pick an occupation right now I’d like to be the innkeeper.

Oh dear.

I found a four-day-old e-mail in my account. It’s from a player (I’m not sure e wanted his name posted…) who attempted to delete his account, and deleted the old blognomic blog instead. The wayback machine has preserved the posts, but as far I can see, not the comments. Any ideas before defaulting to complete and total panic?

EDIT: Apparently, the really really old entries have also gone the way of the old GNDT logs and Ravenblack’s memorial fund. It so happens that the fund was in the really really old entries, and thus it is within itself.

The Night Watch

The village of Zahndorf now has a Night Watchman, who’ll be starting their rounds at nightfall, a couple of hours from now. You can all sleep a little safer in your beds tonight.

Proposal: Town Meeting - We need guns, lots of them

Passed 10-0, without effect.  Brendan

Adminned at 21 Oct 2007 15:03:40 UTC

There is currently no gunsmiths in the Zahndorf. Unless the villagers have really good throwing arms, all the silver bullets we can make will do us no good.

In there are no villagers with gun related trades when this proposal is enacted, make the most requested villager a gunsmith. When voting in favor of this proposal, a villager may request another villager to be a gunsmith by stating in their comments “Request: [villager’s name]”. When voting in favor or against this proposal, a villager may make emself immune to becoming a gunsmith by posting in their comments “Which end do I point?”. Any requests for an immune villager to become a gunsmith are ignored.

Proposal: Caged Wolf

Passed 11-0.  Brendan

Adminned at 21 Oct 2007 15:01:32 UTC

If the Proposal You Are In The Village fails, this proposal does nothing.

In the rule Werewolves, change the text

If it is Nighttime, if all living Werewolves have the same target, if they have not killed anyone since the most recent Daytime, and if their target is still Alive,

to

If it is Nighttime, if no werewolves are prisioners, if all living Werewolves have the same target, if they have not killed anyone since the most recent Daytime, and if their target is still Alive,

Proposal: You Are In The Village

Passed 9-0.  Brendan

Adminned at 21 Oct 2007 14:53:19 UTC

Add a new subrule to Rule 2.1.1, called “Gaol”:-

Zahndorf has a one-person gaol cell in an annex of the town hall. If a Villager is given the Occupation “Prisoner” (as a result of a Town Meeting, or other means), that means that they are imprisoned in this cell. If there would ever be more than one Prisoner, then the one who was most recently imprisoned is automatically released, becoming a Peasant instead.

The gaol cell has two sets of keys - any Villager who has a set of these keys may release a Prisoner from the cell by changing the Prisoner’s occupation to Peasant.

Rename Rule 2.2 to “Items”, and replace the first paragraph with:-

Villagers may carry items - these are tracked in the GNDT. A Villager may give one of their items to any other Villager, at any time, by updating the GNDT.

Give two copies of the inventory item “Gaol Keys” to the Mayor.

In Rule 2.1, replace “A Dead Villager may not vote in a Town Meeting” with “Dead Villagers and Prisoners may not vote in a Town Meeting”, replace “half the number of living Villagers” with “half the number of living, unimprisoned Villagers”, and “who was dead at the time” with “who was dead or in gaol at the time”.

In Rule 2.1.1, replace “(except for the Mayor)” with “(except for the Mayor and the Prisoner)”.

Proposal: Town Meeting: Recruitment Fair

Reached quorum, twelve votes to zero. Enacted by Kevan - Clucky is unmasked as the boothaler that he is.

Adminned at 21 Oct 2007 07:54:08 UTC

Zahndorf is a small village with a dwindling population, and it saddens your Mayor to see so much vital work going undone. Why, the village didn’t even have a barber until yesterday! Although the village benefits from its strong agricultural labour force, Zahndorf needs to strengthen its civic bonds if it’s going to survive - we need more people working in the village’s shops and streets, particularly with winter on its way.

Any Villager who is still a Peasant when this Town Meeting enacts is obviously trying to hide something - they shall be given a random Occupation from the “Criminal” section of the occupations list (even if this would create duplicates).

Change of Heart

I cannot do it. I simply cannot leave my trade. Perhaps I can help the lychanthropes become normal again.

I didn’t see that the barber occupation was already taken, making my move illigal. I just changed it back to alchemist.

Wary of Alchemy

Due to the already werewolf fearful population, many townfolk are wary of my alchemy. It makes them nervious. I think I shall go to my fathers trade until the town is more accepting. I shall become a barber.

Back Hair Inspection

All players with addresses listed in post office records have now been informed of their back hair status. The village still has no barber.

(Note that I still don’t seem to have official contact details for Rodney. And I’d like to confirm that Amnistar’s is his username at Gmail, because I can’t seem to find a comment that backs this up.)

Proposal: Secret Watchman

Reached quorum, eight votes to zero. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 20 Oct 2007 14:42:27 UTC

In rule 2.1.1.2, replace

A Villager may only become the Night Watchman as a result of a Town Meeting.

with

If there is currently no Night Watchman, the Mayor shall randomly select one Living, Non-werewolf Villager, and secretly notify that villager of their new status. The status of Night Watchman is not an occupation, and, as such, it shall not be publicly tracked.

Then, re-number rule 2.1.1.2 as 2.7, leaving all other text unchanged.

The purpose of this proposal is to make the Night Watchman position useful, instead of a huge target.

Proposal: Citizen Soldiers

Reached quorum, 9 votes to 1. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 20 Oct 2007 14:40:51 UTC

If the proposal “Local Militia” fails, this proposal does nothing.

Add the following paragraph to the rule “Military Occupations:”

Zahndorf armory is the smallest in the valley, and if there are ever more than two Villagers with Military Occupations, the Mayor may demote one of them to Peasant.

In addition, change the clause “and if they ever become the target of the Werewolves” in that rule to “and if they are ever attacked by the Werewolves.”

Voter Turnout

The village hall is still awaiting votes from Bucky, Chivalrybean, Rodney, Scaramouche, Tesla4D and Zaratustra on the vexed issue of the night watchman’s powers and duties, and this indecision is holding up the daily running of the village. By dawn the votes will be tallied regardless, but this apparently wilful ignorance of the most pressing issues in the village reflects badly on our community.

With our first lynching already in the queue, and our poor silversmith unsure of his fate, all villagers are encouraged to vote for all motions put forward at the town hall, as early as they possibly can.

Don’t forget that it’s perfectly legal to vote at night - just watch your step on your way back home.

Thank you.

Proposal: Quick and dirty

One vote for to nine against - cannot reach quorum. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 20 Oct 2007 12:49:18 UTC

Add a new rule to the Ruleset.  Call it “Murder” and give it the following text:

Each surviving Villager may murder another Villager as a weekly action.  To do so, he must make a post to the blog with title “I murder X”, where X is the name of his victim.  The body of the post should describe the method of the murder and may also give an excuse for the murder.  The victim then becomes Dead.  If the mayor judges that the post does not accurately identify the murderer or the victim, he may revert the status of the victim to Alive.

Any Villager who has murdered another Villager is considered to be dead for the purpose of determining whether Town Meetings pass or fail.  This lasts until the end of the dynasty or until a Town Meeting decides otherwise.

Proposal: Locations

Can’t reach quorum with seven votes against. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 20 Oct 2007 12:47:51 UTC

Add a new sub-item to “Life in Zahndorf”, called “Locations”, containing the text:

Zahndorf is divided in Locations. Initially, the Locations are:

* The Market Square, where the shops, craftsmen’s workshops and stables surround a central plaza with a fountain. It has a strong characteristic smell during the summer.

* The Church, which contains the church grounds proper, as well as the city graveyard.

* The Town Hall holds the mayor’s office, the police offices and the city jail. Nearby is a small hill, the former meeting place for the villagers, where a lone elm tree stands.

* The Households surround the previously listed locations, and are composed of average medieval residences.

* The Forest surrounds the previously listed locations, and the dirt roads through it are the only way in and out of the city. The closest village is a couple of days away, by horse.

(light on ruling, but mostly intended for other rules to build upon it)

Proposal: Who was that masked watchman?

Self-Killed - Failed by Chivalrybean

Adminned at 19 Oct 2007 22:15:58 UTC

In rule 2.1.1.2 The Night Watchman, change the text:

A Villager may only become the Night Watchman as a result of a Town Meeting.

with

A villager may only become the night watchman as a result of a special Town Meeting. To post this special town meeting, the title of the post must include the text “Watchman Selection”. In this town meeting, villagers may comment that they with to become the night watchman, but shall not cast a vote publicly. After the special town meeting is posted, villagers have 24 hours to comment their desire to become the night watchman. After that, villagers have the next 24 hours to vote secretly by sending an email message to the Mayor including the text Watchman vote = [villager name]. Once all votes are counted, if there is a winner, the mayor shall cast a FOR vote, and the winning villager will become the night watchman. If there is no clear winner, the Mayor shall Veto the special town meeting and no night watchman will be appointed at that time.

The night watchmans identity shall be kept secret and shall not be tracked in the GNDT as a normal occupation would be.

Proposal: Silver Bullets for All

Passed 8-0 - Enacted by Chivalrybean

Adminned at 19 Oct 2007 22:14:41 UTC

Enact a new rule, ‘Silver Bullets’, with the following text:

There exist silver bullets and guns in the game. The number of each that a villager possesses shall be tracked in the GDNT. Each villager begins with 0 of each, and may never have fewer than 0 of each. At any time, assuming he is in possession of at least one of the appropriate item, a villager may give one or more from his stocks to another villager, updating the GDNT appropriately (or having the mayor or an admin make the change if they are not able).

Create a new sub-rule of ‘Silver Bullets’, titled ‘Silver and Gun Occupations’, with the following text:

The following occupations are ‘silver-related occupations’: silversmith, goldsmith, and wiredrawer.

The following occupations are ‘gun-related occupations’: gunsmith, and gunstocker.

As a daily action, assuming it’s currently daytime, a villager of a silver-related occupation may make a single silver bullet for his own possession, if that villager has held the occupation for at least a full daytime and nighttime.

As a weekly action, assuming it’s currently daytime, a villager of a gun-related occupation may make a single gun for his own possession, if that villager has held the occupation for at least a full week.

Proposal: Day Shift

Passed 8-0 - Enacted by Chivalrybean

Adminned at 19 Oct 2007 22:11:18 UTC

[ Tweaking a few rules so that they can only be carried out in daylight, and by the living. ]

In Rule 2.1.1, replace “Any Peasant may give themselves a replacement Occupation” with

During the Daytime, any living Peasant may give themselves a replacement Occupation

In Rule 2.1, add to the start of the second paragraph:

Town Meetings may be called by any living Villager during the daytime.

And replace “The Mayor may Veto any Town Meeting which he considers to be physically impossible, or otherwise inappropriate.” with

The Mayor may Veto any Town Meeting which was called during the Nighttime, was called by a Villager who was dead at the time, or which calls for action which the Mayor considers to be physically impossible, or otherwise inappropriate.

If The Abdicating Pope passed, reword the paragraph it created to

Any living Villager (except for the Mayor) may leave their Occupation and become a Peasant by posting a blog entry announcing and explaining their resignation. This is a Weekly Action, and may only be performed during the Daytime.

The Post Office

The Post Office has now opened in Zahndorf.

This page can hold the preferred contacts of players for easier tracking.

Proposal: Local Militia

Passed 4-0-5 - Enacted by Chivalrybean

Adminned at 19 Oct 2007 22:05:37 UTC

Create a new sub-rule of Occupations “Military Occupations” with the text:

If a Villager has an Occupation which is listed in the “Military” section of the linked page, then they are trained in the art of combat, and if they ever become the target of the Werewolves, the Mayor rolls 1DICE20.  On a result of 15-20 the target continues as normal.  On a result of 8-14 the villager escapes, but no further actions are required, and the targets of all werewolves are change to no one.  On a result of 2-7 the villager escapes with a clue as to the identity of the werewolves.  This clue consists of a single letter which is in the name of one of the werewolves.  On a result of 1 the villager manages to kill 1 random werewolf, decided in whatever fashion the Mayor deems acceptable.

Proposal: The Abdicating Pope

Passed 10-0.

Adminned at 19 Oct 2007 10:08:02 UTC

Any Villager except the Mayor may leave their Occupation and become a Peasant, as a weekly Action, by posting a blog entry announcing and explaining their resignation.

Villagers can have teeth too

Create a new sub-rule of Occupations “Military Occupations” with the text:

If a Villager has an Occupation which is listed in the “Military” section of the linked page, then they are trained in the art of combat, and if they ever become the target of the Werewolves, the Mayor rolls 1DICE20.  On a result of 15-20 the target continues as normal.  On a result of 8-14 the villager escapes, but no further actions are required, and the targets of all werewolves are change to no one.  On a result of 2-7 the villager escapes with a clue as to the identity of the werewolves.  This clue consists of a sing letter which is in the name of one of the werewolves.  On a result of 1 the villager manages to kill 1 random werewolf, decided in whatever fashion the Mayor deems acceptable.

Rough Draft, lemme know if there is enough response to the idea to clean it up, and chages I should make :)

Wandering Stranger

As the sun rises into the clouds of the dawn, a silhouette is seen against the rising light.  A new member of the town has arrived from the west, and though his clothes are torn, he seems willing and able to participate in the town’s activities.

Unidle Me!

Proposal: Silver Bullets

Self-killed.  Brendan

Adminned at 19 Oct 2007 10:05:42 UTC

Enact a new rule, ‘Silver Bullets’:

The following occupations are ‘silver-related occupations’: silversmith, goldsmith, and wiredrawer.

The following occupations are ‘gun-related occupations’: gunsmith, and gunstocker.

So long as there is at least one live villager with a silver-related occupation, and a live villager from a gun-related occupation, then the Night Watchman shall be considered to be supplied with a gun and silver bullets. If the werewolves target the Night Watchman while he is supplied with a gun and silver bullets, then the Mayor shall roll DICE10 in the GDNT before determining his death. If the result is 5 or less, then rather than the Night Watchman dying from the attack, one of the werewolves (at random) will be shot and killed instead. The Mayor shall then make a post to this effect. When revealing the list of possible werewolves to a Night Watchman who has thus survived an attack, then rather than including a random werewolf, the Mayor shall include the shot werewolf.

Interesting facts about Hix

Letter to the Editor of the Zahndorf Press

Sir:

I observe that Hix was the first to cast a “NO” vote on a proposal that would have created the possibility of immunity-to-werewolf-attack for some Villagers.
I also observe that Hix was the first to propose a lynching.

All I’m saying is I’m just saying.

Very truly yours,
spikebrennan
((p.s. fine silver products at reasonable prices))

Proposal: Town Meeting:  Lynch spikebrennan!

Failed 1-8.  Brendan

Adminned at 19 Oct 2007 10:05:49 UTC

The italicized portion of this Proposal shall be ignored when updating the Gamestate to include the specified effects of this Proposal.

spikebrennan has just tried to have a random villager appointed (or should I say MARKED) as Night Watchman.  He admits that at the time, he believed Night Watchman to be an Occupation.  Now, based on previous nomic interactions with sb, I’m sure most of us know that sb is pretty intelligent.  Surely he realized that, as Occupations are tracked in the GNDT, they are Public Knowledge.  That’s right—he intentionally tried to put a big target on someone at random, an action which (I’m sure he hoped that no one would notice) can only help the werewolves, in fact.  Think!  As things currently are, the werewolves have NO INCENTIVE whatsoever to choose anyone other than the Night Watchman as their target.  Other currently held occupations have no game effect, but the Night Watchman is dangerous to the werewolves.  Even better for the werewolves is the possibility that one of the werewolves is, in fact, the Night Watchman!  In this case, they will shortly identify each other, much to their advantage.  I know that at first glance, it seems like sb was doing the village a favor by having a Night Watchman appointed, but surely he realized that the only possible advantage to making the appointment (namely, the Night Watchman’s special ability) is completely nullified by the fact that the Night Watchman will surely die before that advantage can ever actually happen.

In short:  Only a werewolf would make such a suggestion!  Grab your shotguns and silver bullets!  Ready?  Aim!  Fire!

Change spikebrennan’s status from “Alive” to “Dead”, even if he is idle (so that, if he is idle, his status will be “Dead” and not “Alive” should he unidle).

Proposal: Who shaves the barber?

Passed 10-0.

Adminned at 19 Oct 2007 10:02:47 UTC

Add a new dynastic rule, entitled “Hair”, as follows:

The Mayor will determine, once with respect to each Villager (i.e., promptly after the adoption of this Proposal with respect to Villagers active then, and with respect to each new Villager promptly after the Villager becomes active), whether that Villager has a Hairy Back in accordance with the following principles:  A Villager who is not a Werewolf has a 25% chance of having a Hairy Back, and a Villager who is a Werewolf has a 50% chance of having a Hairy Back.  Upon making such determination, the Mayor will privately communicate to each Villager the status of that Villager’s Back.  The status of having a Hairy Back shall not be tracked in the GNDT

A Villager who does not have a Hairy Back may not acquire a Hairy Back.

A Villager who has a Hairy Back may lose it only in accordance with the following: There must be a Villager who has an occupation of “Barber”.  Both the Villager with the Hairy Back and the Barber must secretly communicate to the Mayor a message to the effect that the Villager with the Hairy Back has been shaved.  However, the Barber cannot shave himself; thus, if the Barber has a Hairy Back then it cannot be removed.

Proposal: Night Watchman Fix

Passed, finally, 8-2.  Brendan

Adminned at 19 Oct 2007 09:58:15 UTC

If the proposal “Quis Custodiet Lycanthropus?” fails, this proposal does nothing.

Replace the text of the subrule “The Night Watchman” with:

Whenever a Villager is killed by Werewolves as a result of Rule 2.2, the Mayor will email the Night Watchman (if there is one, and if they are still alive) with an alphabetised list of Villagers who the Watchman has seen on the streets that night. This list shall consist of a random living werewolf, plus a N other randomly selected villagers where N is half(rounded up) of all living Villagers, excluding the previously selected werewolf.

A Villager may only become the Night Watchman as a result of a Town Meeting.

The night watchman in its current form is too powerful, not because it is easy for him to find a werewolf, but because if he does that automatically clears everyone else on the list. It would be better to put a werewolf in there, and then randomly select the rest.

Town Meeting: Night Watchman

Fellow villagers:

We need a Night Watchman.  If this proposal passes, then the Mayor shall select a Night Watchman via a random GNDT dice roll, with all Villagers other than the Mayor having an equal likelihood of being selected.  The Villager so selected shall be the Night Watchman until he dies or is removed from the post.

Proposal: Men of the Cloth

Can’t reach quorum with eight votes against. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 18 Oct 2007 02:31:46 UTC

If Proposal: Church and Fate does not pass then this proposal does nothing.

Rewrite the sentence in the subrule “Religious Occupations” that currently reads:

Zahndorf church is the smallest in the valley, and if there are ever more than two Villagers with Religious Occupations, the Mayor may demote one of them to Peasant.

so that it reads:

Zahndorf church is the smallest in the valley.  If at any time there are two Villagers with Religious Occupations (“Currently Religious Villagers”) and any action would otherwise cause a third Villager to adopt a Religious Occupation, then immediately before the third Villager obtains that status, the Currently Religious Villager which was the earliest to adopt its current status of Religious Occupation shall automatically be demoted to Peasant.

Also, add the following sentence to the end of the subrule:

As men of the cloth have taken a vow of peace and forgiveness, no Villager with a Religious Occupation may cast a vote at a Town Meeting on a proposal that would, if adopted, cause the death of a Villager.

Proposal: Quis Custodiet Lycanthropus?

Passed 10-0.  Brendan

Adminned at 17 Oct 2007 20:00:13 UTC

To Rule 2.1.1 (Occupations), add a subrule “The Night Watchman”:-

Whenever a Villager is killed by Werewolves as a result of Rule 2.2, the Mayor will email the Night Watchman (if there is one, and if they are still alive) with a list of Villagers who the Watchman has seen on the streets that night. This list shall consist of a random half of all living non-Werewolf Villagers (rounding up), plus one random living Werewolf.

A Villager may only become the Night Watchman as a result of a Town Meeting.

Proposal: I Was Born This Way

Passed 7-0.  Brendan

Adminned at 17 Oct 2007 11:43:22 UTC

Assuming that we will eventually have a Mafialike victory condition, we should try to limit the effect of new players on Werewolf-Villager ratios.  Plus we don’t want the new guys to have a free pass when we start lynching.

Add the following subrule, called “Spontaneous Lycanthropy,” to the rule “Werewolves:”

When a new Villager joins the game, or when an idle Villager who has not previously participated in this Dynasty reactivates, the Mayor may (within 48 hours) determine randomly whether this Villager is a Werewolf and alert him or her via email or some other means.  The chance of the Villager being a Werewolf is (x+1)/2*y, where x is the number of Dead Villagers and y is the total number of active Villagers.

Should idling ever cause the active Villager list to lack any Werewolves at all, the Mayor may randomly select z new Werewolves, where z is the number of Living Villagers divided by 5 and rounded down.  The Mayor shall alert these Villagers to their affliction via email or some other means.

Proposal: Church and Fate

Passed 7-0.  Brendan

Adminned at 17 Oct 2007 11:22:51 UTC

[ Reworking Spike’s two-person church idea into the occupations system. ]

To Rule 2.1.1 (Occupations), add a subrule “Religious Occupations”:-

If a Villager has an Occupation which is listed in the “Religious” section of the linked page, then they are blessed, and any attempts of the Werewolves to target that Villager are ignored. A Villager may only adopt a Religious Occupation as a result of a Town Meeting.

Zahndorf church is the smallest in the valley, and if there are ever more than two Villagers with Religious Occupations, the Mayor may demote one of them to Peasant.

In Rule 2.1.1 (Occupations), replace “Government, Military and Sailor” with:-

Government, Military, Religious and Sailor

If any Villagers have Religious Occupations at the time of this proposal enacting, they shall be demoted to Peasant.

Proposal: Werewolves Amendment

Reached quorum, eight votes to zero. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 17 Oct 2007 08:51:53 UTC

Add this sentence to the end of the Werewolves rule:

After a Werewolf has changed their target, they cannot change targets again for 30 minutes.

Proposal: Last try for now

Failed three votes to seven - cannot reach quorum without votes being changed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 17 Oct 2007 08:49:28 UTC

In the rule werewolves, replace the text

If it is Nighttime, if all living Werewolves have the same target, if they have not killed anyone since the most recent Daytime, and if their target is still Alive, then the Mayor may post a blog entry announcing that their target has been killed. That Villager is now Dead.

with

If it is Nighttime, If all living Werewolves have the same target, if they have not killed anyone since the most recent Daytime, and if the target is still Alive, then the Mayor shall generate a random number from 1 to 10. If the result is 2-10, the mayor may post a blog entry announcing that their target has been murdered. That Villager is now Dead. If the result is 1, the Villager escapes death with a clue. The clue is a list of N names, where N is quorum divided by 2, plus 1. The list of names shall be all villagers, including only one werewolf. The mayor shall deliver the clue to the still alive villager secretly via e-mail or some similar means.

Proposal: Best Kept Village

Reached quorum, eight votes to zero - seven villagers were in favour of switching to pfennigs. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 17 Oct 2007 06:27:44 UTC

[ A minor tweak, but “Call to Action” sounds too harsh, in retrospect. ]

Replace “Call to Action” with “Town Meeting”, throughout the ruleset, with appropriate pluralisation. Then reword “vote on a Town Meeting” to “vote in a Town Meeting”, and “Town Meeting’s enactment” to “enacting the effects of a Town Meeting”.

Also replace “City of Zahndorf” with “village of Zahndorf”, actually, in Rule 2.5. And if more than half the FOR votes on this proposal include the word “pfennig” in their comment, replace “euro” with “pfennig”.

Open Your Eyes

Given that the village post is a little slow, and that the game will get a lot more interesting when the werewolves are awake, I’ve made the rolls now - where I rolled someone that I can’t contact securely yet, I’ll just wait for them to get in touch.

I’ve now replied to all Mayoral email confirming whether the senders are or aren’t werewolves, and to anyone who gave their address in the comments. If you don’t know whether you’re afflicted or not, get in touch at zahndorf at gmail dot com.

Proposal: Places, Everyone

Self-killed, failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 17 Oct 2007 05:36:09 UTC

Add a dynastic rule, entitled “Location”, as follows:

Zahndorf is divided into Locations.  Each Villager has, at any given time, exactly one Location, which is tracked in the GNDT.  Unless the list of Locations in this rule expressly provides otherwise, any number of Villagers may have a particular Location.  (For ease of communication, the phrase “X is located at Y” and phrases of like import shall be interpreted as meaning that Villager X has Location Y as his current location).  Any Villager may change his Location to any other permitted Location, at any time, by means of the GNDT.  The list of available Locations, and the game effects associated with each, is as follows:

* Village Square.  All Villagers have this Location as their initial Location.  Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in the ruleset, only Villagers who are located at Village Square may initiate or vote on Calls for Action (except for the Mayor, who may initiate or take action with respect to Calls for Action wherever he is located).
* Church.  No more than two Villagers may be located in Church at any given time.  Any Villager who is in Church may not be killed by Werewolves.
* Cemetery.  All Villagers who are Dead are located at the Cemetery.  No Villager who is not Dead may be located at the Cemetery.
* Forest.

Proposal: Call To Action:Night classes for the ME

Failed 1-7.  Brendan

Adminned at 16 Oct 2007 19:47:24 UTC

If “Proposal: Limited Resources” failed, this Proposal has no further effect.  The italicized portion of this Proposal shall be ignored when updating the Gamestate to include the specified effects of this Proposal.

I Propose a one-time appropriation of funds for specialized training of the entire staff of the Medical Examiner’s office to be able to identify and recognize the physiological signs of lycanthropy upon postmortem examination.

Decrease the number of euros in the Treasury by 50 000.

Add a Dynastic Rule called “Medical Examiner” with text:

Whenever a Villager becomes Dead, the Mayor shall make a post to the blog which states whether that Villager was a werewolf at time of becoming Dead.  The Mayor may make this post at his convenience, but should do so in a timely manner.

Please note that this Proposal was created before werewolf assignments were handed out.

Villager++

I’m un-idling.

Also, I can see a problem with Bad Moon Rising. If anyone unidles after the Werewolves are selected, they are assuredly not Werewolves. Any ideas?

Add a subrule to Rule 2.1 (Life in Zahndorf), called “Occupations”:-

Each Villager has a single Occupation within Zahndorf, which is noted in the GNDT. The Mayor’s Occupation is always “Mayor”, and all other Villagers start with a blank Occupation, which is considered to be “Peasant”.

Any Peasant may give themselves a replacement Occupation from the list at this web site, excluding those in the Government, Military and Sailor sections, and those already taken by other Villagers.

And move the two “Call to Action” paragraphs into a subrule of Rule 2.1 called “Calls to Action”, while we’re there.

Proposal: Limited Resources

Create a Dynastic Rule called “Treasury” with text:

The Treasury of the City of Zahndorf currently contains 5 000 000 euros.  Any legal changes to the number of euros in the Treasury shall be recorded by appropriately modifying the number in the first sentence of this Rule.

The net income of the City is currently 0; revenues (from taxes, for example) are exactly equal to ongoing expenditures.  As things currently are, the size of the Treasury will not automatically change over time.

Proposal: Le Temps Du Loup

Reached quorum, 8 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 16 Oct 2007 15:18:38 UTC

Enact a new Rule, “Daytime and Nighttime”:-

Time in Zahndorf is divided into Daytime and Nighttime. All even-numbered days in the real world are Daytime in Zahndorf, and all odd-numbered days are Nighttime - this is automatically reflected in the colour of the sky at the top of the BlogNomic weblog.

In the rule “Werewolves”, replace the final paragraph with:-

If it is Nighttime, if all living Werewolves have the same target, if they have not killed anyone since the most recent Daytime, and if their target is still Alive, then the Mayor may post a blog entry announcing that their target has been killed. That Villager is now Dead.

Postal Service

The church bell tolls nine, and stops. We now have ten villagers, enough to trigger Bad Moon Rising.

Given that it’s unclear how interceptible the private messaging and email features of Expression Engine are, we should do the werewolf messaging entirely via email. So could everybody please email the Mayor at zahndorf at gmail dot com, to find out whether they’re a werewolf or not. For added security, feel free to state (or just allude to) your email address in a comment to this post, to remove the possibility of fake-account shenanigans. Or just give your email address in comments and I’ll contact you if necessary.

As soon as I’m satisfied that I know how to securely reach all active villagers, I’ll roll the dice and work out who’s a werewolf.

Reached quorum, 10-1. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 16 Oct 2007 15:18:03 UTC

If the Proposal: Werewolf fails, this proposal does nothing.

Add a rule called “Dead men tell no tales”

A Dead Villager may not reveal any information that he learned, made up, or other wise acquired about another villager, or any relevant information about himself that was not revealed before he became dead. This includes, but is not limited to, whether or not he or another villager was or is a werewolf; what another villager may have told him through private conversation; or even logical deduction about the roles of the other players based on the circumstances of the game.

A Stroke of Luck

Well, I’m back, and due to a fortuitous turn of events, I now have a stable, semi-boring job, where I have explicit permission to enjoy the internet on company time (It’s not a dream job, though; I have to deal with difficult customers and the pay is mediocre).

So, unlike my previous living arrangements, I can count on visiting at least once a day. No more spotty participation for me!

If memory serves, Quorum becomes 6.

If the proposal Werewolf fails, this proposal does nothing.

Add the following to the rule “Bad Moon Rising”

As soon as Zahndorf has two Werewolves in it, the Mayor may select a random Villagers (excluding himself and any villager that is already a Werewolf) to become the Mystic. He shall alert that person to their role through email or some other means. The Mayor shall then repeal this rule.

Add a rule called “Mystic”

Some of the Villagers may be a Mystic - as residents of the village, they have the been blessed with the power of prophesy and dreams, and through this power can accurately determine and scout out werewolves.

The Mystic’s identity is not tracked publicly, and is initially known only by the Mayor.

As a weekly action, the Mystic may privately email the Major announcing their choice of a dream about a named Villager, in an email with the subject “Dreaming [Villager Name]. Upon reception of the email, the Villager becomes the Mystic’s target

Upon receiving this email, if the target is still Alive, then the Mayor may email the Mystic back with either one word, “Yes” if the target is a werewolf, and “No” if the target is not.

Wow, it’s been a while.

Secure communication

Naturally, there will be quite a bit of extra-blog communication going on during this dynasty, most of which ought to remain private.  I don’t wish to suggest that any admin here would ever cheat like this, but it should be known by everyone that it is _possible_ for an admin to view the contents of email sent to blognomic members with the Expression Engine email console.  Does anyone know if the private message system is safe from admin viewing?  I noticed that the email console always warns you in red letters about the possibility of an admin viewing your message, but the PM console does not.  Also, as an admin, I have found where the email logs are, but don’t see any PM logs anywhere.  That’s evidence, but still, if anyone can definitively confirm that the PM system is safe, I would be relieved.  I know some people don’t like giving out email addresses for fear of spambots or for other reasons, so it would be useful to know we can utilize PMs this dynasty.

Proposal: Time keeps on slippin, slippin

Add a new dynastic rule entitled “Time”, as follows:

Time is divided into ZahnDays (which are consecutively numbered).  Each ZahnDay is divided into two periods: Daytime (which is the first part of a ZahnDay) and Nighttime (which is the last part of a ZahnDay).  At the start of this dynasty, the Time is ZahnDay 1: Daytime.  From time to time the Mayor may cause an advance in Time by announcing in a post to the main page that Time is advanced, and stating the new Time.  Each such Time advance will be exactly one partial-ZahnDay period (e.g., ZahnDay 1:Daytime is followed by ZahnDay 1:Nighttime, which in turn is followed by ZahnDay 2:Daytime).  Each Time period lasts until it is changed by the Mayor in accordance with this paragraph.

[comment, not part of the proposal: I assume that at some point, phases of the moon may also become relevant.]

Proposal: Werewolf

Reached quorum, eight votes to zero. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 16 Oct 2007 01:03:01 UTC

So, a couple of starting rules for a Mafia/Nomic hybrid, which should prove to be interesting, or at least interestingly broken. We’ve already had a gangster and a shapeshifting alien dynasty, so I went with Andrew Plotkin’s werewolves - rather than alternating between day and night, the Werewolves can agree to kill one Villager per day, and the Villagers can put forward as many lynch (or prison or wolfsbane or anything) proposals as they like.

Enact a new Rule, “Life in Zahndorf”:-

The Villagers of Zahndorf are a simple folk. They can either be Alive or Dead (tracked in the GNDT), and all Villagers start the game Alive.

If a Proposal title includes the phrase “Call To Action:”, then it represents a physical activity within the village (such as a barn raising or a lynching). A Dead Villager may not vote on a Call to Action, and Quorum for a Call to Action’s enactment will be calculated as half the number of living Villagers, rounded down, plus one.

The Mayor may Veto any Call for Action which he considers to be physically impossible, or otherwise inappropriate. (If the Mayor is Dead, he is still able to Veto Calls for Action, representing the intervention of collective municipal government.)

Enact a new Rule, “Werewolves”:-

Some of the Villagers may be Werewolves - although they have lived in the village in human form for years, they have the power to transform themselves into savage wolves, and can roam freely through the streets and surrounding woodland of Zahndorf.

The Werewolves’ identities are not tracked publicly, and are initially known only by the Mayor.

A Werewolf may privately email the Mayor announcing their intention to murder a named Villager, in an email with the subject “Targetting [Villager Name]” - upon reception of the email, this Villager becomes that Werewolf’s target.

If all living Werewolves have the same target, if they have not yet killed that day, and if the target is still Alive, then the Mayor may post a blog entry announcing that their target has been murdered. That Villager is now Dead.

Enact a new Rule, “Bad Moon Rising” (we should wait until a few more players join or unidle, before deciding who’s a werewolf):-

As soon as Zahndorf has ten or more Villagers in it, the Mayor may select two random Villagers (excluding himself) to become Werewolves. He shall alert them to their affliction through email or some other means, and each Werewolf shall be told the identity of the other. The Mayor shall then repeal this rule.

Ascension Address: Welcome to Zahndorf

Another cold October morning in the village of Zahndorf, and another flock of sheep has been lost on the rocky hills. A pale moon is still chalked onto the blue sky above the treeline, and the church bell begins to ring slowly out across the square as the Mayor calls the villagers to a town meeting.

(Repeal all Dynastic rules. Replace “Kaiju God” with “Villager” and “Tokyo” with “Mayor”, throughout the ruleset.)

If Kevan does not do so during that time, roll a DICEN in the GNDT where N is the number of unique Kaiju Gods (other than Kevan) who were not idle at the time of enactment, and who included the phrase “make me Tokyo” in a comment to this proposal before its enactment. Sort these players alphabetically and pick the Xth person in the list where X is the result of the dice roll. Make a post to the blog with these results. The named Kaiju God may then declare victory.

If 48 hours have passed since the proposal’s enactment without a declaration of victory, then the proposal’s effects expire.

Tokyo is Idle?!?!?

Well, latest cleanup, and it looks like we have no Tokyo. Is that possible? Rules don’t seem to contradict it.

So… Josh and snowballinhell7001 are idle, quorum is now 4.

Hubland in Ruins

Kakzama’s pronged blue tongue lashed out in anger as its exoskeletal armoured legs lay waste to the poor town of Hubland, while the helpless citizens fled in panic. Even had the Tokyo Menace Defence Base had the robots to spare to defend the poor village, the monster’s full plate armour would probably have withstood their meager attacks.

The rest of the city struggled to absorb the refugees: Midtown and the Microchip District are bursting at the seams, and Kaijushima has become the latest safe haven. But for how long? Monsters are terrorizing the city, and it’s only a matter of time before they continue their rampage through Tokyo.

And where are the Kaiju Gods, ask the supplicant citizens? Why have they forsaken their patron city?

Proposal: Kaiju Mitama

s/k, failed by aaronwinborn

Adminned at 12 Oct 2007 04:48:27 UTC

Enact a new rule called ‘Kaiju Mitama’. It shall contain the following text:

Each Kaiju God possesses two souls, Nigi-Mitama, and Ara-Mitama. Each Kaiju God will have a rating for each, which begins at 0, and may be a positive or negative integer. Certain actions made by the Kaiju Gods in the game may affect these ratings. These ratings for each Kaiju God will be tracked on the City Document wiki.

Ara-Mitama (Aggressive Soul): This rating roughly tracks the bad things a Kaiju God has done towards the city and people of Tokyo, and aggressive actions in general.

Nigi-Mitama (Gentle Soul): This rating rougly tracks the good things a Kaiju God has done for the city and people of Tokyo, and gentle actions in general.

Add the following to the end of the Kaiju power ‘Teleport [Monster] to [Neighborhood]’:

Increase the Kaiju God’s Ara-Mitama by 3, and decrease their Nigi-Mitama by 2.

Add the following to the end of the Kaiju power ‘Empower [Monster]’:

Increase the Kaiju God’s Ara-Mitama by 1, and decrease their Nigi-Mitama by 1.

Add the following to the end of the Kaiju power ‘Weaken [Monster]’:

Decrease the Kaiju God’s Ara-Mitama by 1, and increase their Nigi-Mitama by 1.

Add the following to the end of the Kaiju power ‘Circle of Protection over [Neighborhood]’:

Increase the Kaiju God’s Nigi-Mitama by 3, and decrease their Ara-Mitama by 2.

Add the following to the end of the Kaiju power ‘Media Blackout over [Neighborhood]’:

Increase the Kaiju God’s Nigi-Mitama by 1.

Add the following to the end of the Kaiju power ‘Media Frenzy over [Neighborhood]’:

Increase the Kaiju God’s Ara-Mitama by 1.

[ It’s getting quiet, here. Too quiet. Are people finding the movement and combat systems too slow and uninteresting to be worth playing? ]

Repeal all Dynastic rules other than “Monster Mash” and “Attributes”.

Proposal: A Robot, with a side order of rocket launchers.

passed 3-0-1, enacted by aaronwinborn

Adminned at 11 Oct 2007 06:35:33 UTC

In the rule The Tokyo Menace Defense Force, change the lines

Giant Robots are considered to be Monsters with no Attributes, and a Threat Rating of zero. They may be the subject of headlines, but if their Threat Rating would be changed, it instead remains zero, and they do not cause people to Flee.

and

Giant Robots are created in the same way as Monsters, except that the subject line for their creation should start with “Robot:”, and when completed shall be tracked in a special section of the Monster Roster titled the Robot Roll Call.

to

Giant Robots are considered to be Monsters with a Threat Rating of zero and instead of Attributes they have Components.

Components are created the same as a Monster’s Attributes, but the totals are not combined to add to the threat rating (which for a robot is 0).

In the rule Media Frenzy, change the line

[Robot] Repels [Monster]: If the Monster and Robot are in the same Neighborhood, and if the Monster has a higher Threat Rating than all other Monsters who are in a Neighborhood, then the Monster is removed from the Neighborhood (and has no location).

to

[Robot] Challenges [Monster]: If the Monster and Robot are in the same Neighborhood, and if the Monster has a higher Threat Rating than all other Monsters who are in the Neighborhood, choose one of the three sections of each the robot and the monster at random using 1DICE3 in the GNDT. If the monster’s chosen section has the lower threat rating, now the monster is removed from the Neighborhood (and has no location). If the robot’s chosen section has the lower threat rating, the robot is defeated and it moved to the Tokyo Defense Base(for repairs) and 1% of the neighborhood’s population(rounding up) flees.

Proposal: Truth in Reporting

passed 3-0, enacted by aaronwinborn

Adminned at 08 Oct 2007 12:31:50 UTC

Add the following to just after the first paragraph of the Media Frenzy rule:

When matching a headline, the Kaiju God may reduce words from the written headline, so long as in doing so there is no confusion with another match. For instance, a written headline that reads ‘Citizens Flee in Panic as King Kong Brutally Attacks the Peaceful Hamlet of Yorksburg’ will match ‘King Kong Attacks Yorksburg’. However, ‘Godzilla Attacks Farmers Near Pittsboro’ will not match ‘[Monster] Attacks [Neighborhood]’ or ‘[Monster] Near [Neighborhood]’, as it is unclear which is meant.

If two or more words or phrases separated by slashes are contained in brackets, then the headline may match using any one of the options. For instance, both ‘Mothra Soars Above Tinseltown’ and ‘BEM comes to Pleasantville’ will match ‘[Monster] [In/Above/To] [Neighborhood]’. The case of words (uppercase/lowercase) doesn’t not matter when matching a headline.

Rename the headline for ‘[Monster] Spotted’ to ‘[Monster] [Spotted/Heard/Smelled]’.

Rename the headline for ‘[Monster] a Hoax’ to ‘[Monster] Hoax’.

Rename the headline for ‘[Monster] In [Neighborhood]’ to ‘[Monster] [In/Above/To] [Neighborhood]’. Where that headline states, ‘If the Monster is already in the named Neighborhood’, reword that to ‘If the Monster is not in the named Neighborhood’.

Rename the headline for ‘[Monster] Near [Neighborhood]’ to ‘[Monster] [Near/Around/Nearby] [Neighborhood’].

Change the headline for ‘[Monster] goes on a rampage!’ to the following:

[Monster] on Rampage: If there are no Robots or other Monsters present, take the named monster’s current Threat Rating and divide by 100,000,000. Subtract the result from the neighborhood’s current number of buildings, and from its current population, both to a minimum of 0. An additional 5% of the Neighborhood’s population (after the previous reduction, and rounding up) shall immediately flee.

Add the following headlines to the Headlines section of the Media Frenzy rule:

[Robot] [In/Above/To] [Neighborhood]: If the named robot is not already in the named neighborhood, then move it there.

[Robot] On Call: Move the named robot to The Tokyo Menace Defense Force.

Proposal: Let there be More Powers!

passed 3-0-1, enacted by aaronwinborn

Adminned at 08 Oct 2007 12:03:01 UTC

Rename ‘Kaiju Attributes’ to ‘Kaiju Powers’, and replace the first paragraph with the following:

Each Kaiju God may have up to 3 powers that are listed in the Powers section of this rule. If a Kaiju God does not have three powers, they may, once per day, choose a single additional power, which may or may not be the same as another of their powers. The powers a Kaiju God has will be tracked in the Neighborhood in which they are a Patron.

As a daily action, a Kaiju God may either activate or discharge one of their listed powers, removing it from the Kaiju God’s listing. If a power is discharged, there is no further effect.

If a power is activated, the Kaiju God will note this at the top of the ‘Book of the Kaiju’ wiki page, followed by the Kaiju God’s timestamp (~~~~). When noting the use of a power, as needed, replace “[Monster]” with the name of a completed Monster with a wiki page, “[Robot]” with the name of a completed Robot with a wiki page, and “[Neighborhood]” with the name of a Neighborhood.

If an activated power has an effect with a duration, then an additional note shall be made on the appropriate page(s) (under the neighborhood on the wiki page, and/or on the monster’s or robot’s wiki page), marked with the Kaiju God’s timestamp (~~~~), which may be removed by any Kaiju God after its effects have ended.

In the ‘Powers’ section of ‘Kaiju Powers’, replace ‘Teleport Monster’ with the following:

Teleport [Monster] to [Neighborhood]: Move the named monster to the named neighborhood, assuming the monster is not already in that neighborhood. However, if there is a Circle of Protection over that neighborhood, the monster shall instead be moved to an Outer Region of the Kaiju God’s choice, and the Circle of Protection shall be ended.

In the ‘Powers’ section of ‘Kaiju Powers’, rename ‘Empower Monster’ to ‘Empower [Monster]’.

In the ‘Powers’ section of ‘Kaiju Powers’, rename ‘Weaken Monster’ to ‘Weaken [Monster]’.

In the ‘Powers’ section of ‘Kaiju Powers’, add the following powers:

Circle of Protection over [Neighborhood]: By declaring a circle of protection over a neighborhood, no monster may enter that neighborhood for the next 24 hours. A Circle of Protection may only be declared over a neighborhood if there is no monster already there. The Circle of Protection may be ended prematurely with ‘Teleport [Monster] to [Neighborhood]’, as described in that power.

Media Blackout over [Neighborhood]: For the next 24 hours, no media posts may be made affecting that neighborhood. However, if there is currently a ‘Media Frenzy’ in effect over that neighborhood, then the media frenzy shall instead be ended, and there shall be no further effect for the Media Blackout.

Media Frenzy over [Neighborhood] For the next 24 hours, the building or population effects of any media posts made concerning the named neighborhood shall be doubled. However, if there is currently a ‘Media Blackout’ in effect over that neighborhood, then the media blackout shall instead be ended, and there shall be no further effect for the Media Frenzy.

new powers?

i’m working out some ideas for new powers, would like some feedback before writing up a proposal.

first, i’m confused about how they are right now: looks like you get to choose three, only get to use one per day, but can also change one per day. so in effect, they get to use any power they want, because if they don’t have the one they want, they just simply swap it out before enacting it.

so (unless i misunderstand), i would propose either a) removing the requirement to track what powers you have, and let kaiju use any available power once per day, or b) having three slots (which may repeat powers), and you may only use a power from those slots, which removes it from the slot, or discharge a power, once per day, and only filling in slots when they’re empty.

in either case, new powers i’m considering (but need to think through more):

media blackout: the kaiju god may declare a media blackout on a neighborhood, which doubles the population/building effects of any headlines affecting that neighborhood over the next 24 hours. (or maybe for that day, since we track headlines by the day, and make the effects retroactive—on the other hand, if we have a way to track powers in use, that makes it easier to keep track of the next 24 hours, which would probably be better).

circle of protection: by declaring a circle of protection over a neighborhood, no monster may enter that neighborhood for the next 24 hours.. (there may be no monster in to begin with).

let me know your thoughts!

Silent powers?

Currently, there is no tracking of when a Kaiju power is used, other then wiki history. Perhaps enacting a rule for that would be wise, unless we want to keep them more secret.

Who’s idle?

Is there an easy way to see who’s gone idle? Or do you have to go through the comment times and see who’s posted what? I thought I could help with that, but it seems daunting to weed through all the old post comments manually.

Thanks,
aaron

Throw the fight!

When For Good, or for Awesome passed, the section in the rules for a [monsters] attacks [monster] was not updated. I’m not sure if any other changes were not done.

Proposal: A threat, but for good.

Append the following sub rule to the The Tokyo Menace Defense Force rule with the name attributes:

Robots have a threat rating the same as monsters. It is calculated the same as for a monster.
